Signature Style Systems ~ Certified Personal Stylist, Image & Color Consultant, True Colour Expert

Arts, Education, Fashion & Beauty, How To

🔸Do you want to be able to show up for any event in your life feeling 100% like yourself?
🔸Are you sick of wondering why the outfits that look good on other people look or feel weird on you?
🔸Do you feel like you should already know how to create your own style? Like there was a cute girl outfit class that everyone else took but you didn’t know about?

You know how most women are self-conscious about how they look? I was too! Now I have a process for discovering your Style DNA so you and I can look and feel like ourselves.

Style DNA is my acronym and what this podcast is all about:

🔸D) your body’s DESIGN. This includes your silhouette, inherent color palette, and many other artistic characteristics that determine what looks best on you. (Physical form)
🔸(N) your NEEDS, based on your lifestyle, what life stage you are in, your roles, what industry you’re in, where you live geographically and climate-wise. (External elements)
🔸(A) your AESTHETIC. The vision of beauty that’s unique to you. What you like, and what you don’t like, and WHY. (Internal elements)

Imagine being able to walk into a roomful of people, forget about what you are wearing, and just be who you are there to be. I believe when women are seen and valued for who they truly are, we will begin to see the transformation our world so desperately needs. My dream is universal flourishing.

You not feeling self-conscious is the frosting; being kind to the planet is the sprinkles.

  1. 151🔸Use Generational Theory to Build a Wardrobe You Keep

    Show notes

A woman I know loves her black top and said she'll probably buy it in every color.

I suggested she get another black one.

Most people think generational theory is about generations clashing, but it can also help us dress to be understood in our cultural context.

This one looks at how each generation gets read, from Boomers to Zoomers, and what style can do about it. Then it follows a wardrobe from experiment to the pieces you keep.

If you've looked for yourself in one style system after another, you may find a new angle here.

  2. 150🔸History of Fashion: Why Dressing Nicely Feels Rebellious

    Show notes

In the late 1970s, a teenager's camouflage pants read as practical to him and as rebellion to his mother.

Same pants, two readings. Each reading came from the years the viewer grew up in.

Most people think the history of fashion is about trends, but it's each generation defining itself against the last. Now dressing nicely feels rebellious.

This one follows that thread from 1960s army surplus to a hoodie on a Wall Street roadshow, and on to what you may be noticing in the room around you today.

If you've ever felt a small tug of pressure over what you put on in the morning, you may recognize something here.

  3. 149🔸How to Dress When Your Eternal Child Wants Approval

    Show notes

What do you wonder about before you walk out the door?

That wondering could belong to your Eternal Child, the third function in your Myers-Briggs type. It sits on the axis of relating to others and looks to other people for validation, and everyone feels uncertain there.

Knowing who you are is the most effective way to learn how to dress when your Eternal Child cognitive function wants approval.

A garbage-eating goat sculpture in downtown Spokane is part of how I got there.

One way the wondering can sound for each third function:

Se (ENTJ, ENFJ): Will this make an impact?
Si (INFP, INTP): Is this too far outside normal?
Ne (ESTJ, ESFJ): Am I dressed for every possibility?
Ni (ISFP, ISTP): What are they making of me?
Fe (ENTP, ESTP): Will this fit the group vibe?
Fi (INTJ, ISTJ): Will this look like a costume?
Te (ENFP, ESFP): Does this read as in charge?
Ti (INFJ, ISFJ): Will this show I know what I'm doing?

Each line is one possibility, since no single statement covers the whole range.

  4. 148🔸How to Have Fun With Outfit Colors This Fall

    Show notes

In the fall, I'm okay dressing like a tree.

Color theory says swatches that harmonize on a wheel will harmonize in an outfit. What feels right on you shifts with the season, the light, and your own energy on any given day, and that opens up a more spacious way to build your fall outfit colors.

This episode explores the five basic color harmonies, evocative harmony (the kind that can read as a costume), and what a connection worldview has to do with getting dressed.

Making peace with uncertainty is the most effective way to overcome overthinking and have fun with your outfit colors this fall.

  5. 147🔸Value Contrast and the Secret Focal Point of Style

    Show notes

Most people think if they just learn their colors, that solves it.

I'm pale enough that people called me Casper growing up.

That did not stop me from once picking my shoe color to match my eyes instead of my skin. It went about how you'd expect.

Really nice people could not keep their eyes from drifting to my feet first!

Most people think style is a talent, but actually it's an artistic medium like piano or architecture, and value contrast is a primary tool. In other words, you can learn it!

This week's episode breaks down the one rule most color advice skips: where the eye actually lands first, and how to direct it using nothing but light and dark.

  6. 146🔸The Agnes Young Silhouette Cycle and Where We Are Now

    Show notes

In 1937, a researcher named Agnes Young spent years analyzing more than a century of women's fashion and found something the industry has mostly ignored ever since: silhouette doesn't change randomly.

It rotates through the same three shapes in sequence, decade after decade. Bell. Column. Bustle. Predictable enough that once you know where you are in the cycle, you stop chasing trends and start navigating them.

This episode maps the cycle, places us in it right now, and shows you how your body's design determines which phases work naturally for you and which ones you can strategically minimize.

Understanding the silhouette cycle gives you the map of the fashion trend territory; your body's design gives you the "you are here" dot.

  7. 145🔸Fall 2026 Fashion Trends Worth Your Money

    Show notes

Every fall, trend reports start circulating. What to buy. What to throw out.

This episode covers the fall 2026 trends that actually matter for your shopping, and how to tell which ones are worth buying for keeps.

The shift away from black everything, in three directions: brown, cream and ecru edging out black in neutral-and-color combinations, and the return of color: blues, burgundies, purple, even chartreuse.

Waist emphasis through peplum, belts, and fitted or cropped outerwear, with notes on which silhouettes each one serves.

Trends in denim, shoes, and jewelry.

Then the part that outlasts the list. How much you notice trends is largely a function of how much attention you pay to visual things and how much you're around what everyone else is wearing. How can you adopt a strategy that works for you specifically?

Knowing which fall 2026 fashion trends are actually yours is the fastest way to stop shopping every season and start buying for keeps.

  8. 144🔸3 Free Ways to Find Your Personal Color Palette, No Draping

    Show notes

Color analysis has been compressed into one procedure: fabric under your chin and then a verdict, a season.

Women get draped more than once, by different analysts, and come away with different seasons. That isn't because draping is invalid or these professionals don't know what they're doing. It's what happens when one test has to carry the whole answer.

A palette that works is a harmony between two things: the color already in your hair, skin, and eyes, and the colors that represent who you are on the inside. Draping reads the first one.

This week I'm giving you three techniques you can run for next to nothing, starting with the one that’s right at your fingertips.

Building your personal color palette from your own coloring and the images you love is the most reliable way to wear color without second-guessing it.

  9. 143🔸Your Personality Shows You How to Dress for Your Purpose

    Show notes

Here's a pattern you might recognize: you see a problem clearly, you know you can help, you have something to contribute. You offer it and it doesn't land.

    Did they even hear you?

Your personality type has been shaping your style instincts your whole life. But those same instincts are pointing at something bigger than your closet.

There's a Japanese concept called ikigai: the reason you get up in the morning. Its four questions are what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. The hardest question to answer from the inside is "what does the world need?" It feels too vast, too external to grab onto.

Your personality type answers it. What you notice as broken in the world is not random. It's filtered through your type. Your fixation is the wound you keep seeing. Your superpower is the response to it.

Knowing how to dress for congruent visibility is the most direct path to being found by the people whose problems you were made to solve.

This episode connects your type, your closet, and that intersection. Because the world's problems need everyone who was made to help solve them to be visible and findable.

  10. 142🔸Why Capsules Collapse (Outfit Formulas Are the Solution)

    Show notes

Have you ever suspected that capsule wardrobes are pointless, because they collapse into the same three favorite outfits?

There's a reason for that, and your eye already knows it.

Every time you swap a piece, you change the relationship between everything else in the outfit: the proportion, the line, the color balance. Certain combinations hit real harmony on your specific body. You feel it before you can explain it, and you default to those combinations over and over.

Building outfit formulas around your real body proportions is the most effective way to stop capsule wardrobe collapse from feeling like failure.

An outfit formula isn't a fixed head-to-toe look, and it isn't a closet where everything is supposed to mix and match. It's a recipe: the shape and proportion relationships that make a combination work on you, that different pieces can satisfy.

I shared this in a new episode of Signature Style Systems, using a story from an advanced stylist training where every outfit I packed got critiqued in front of the group, one suitcase, every single day.

Curious what your own outfit formula could look like?

  11. 141🔸Signature Style Announces You Before You Open Your Mouth

    Show notes

Every system in the style world is built to sort you into something. None of them are built to actually see you.

There's a quote from stylist Kimberly Parry worth sitting with: when image is done right, it becomes your three second resume. People form an idea of who you are before you open your mouth.

Most systems answer that with a type. Body type, color season, archetype. Stack enough of them and the read gets closer. It rarely gets exact.

There's a different way archetypes get used, one built to dissolve a complex rather than assign a category. I share my own story with this one, moving from a Cinderella kind of role in someone else's story to something entirely outside that hierarchy.

Discovering your Signature Style is the most effective way to be read accurately before you ever speak.

This episode walks through three different ways archetypes function, and what it looks like to build a read that comes from you specifically, not a system built for thousands of people at once.

  12. 140🔸What Your Kibbe Type Tells You About Creating Outfits (Classic)

    Show notes

Thousands of women around the globe are obsessed with finding their “Kibbe” type. About ten years ago, I went down the rabbit hole too and bought David Kibbe's Metamorphosis: Discover Your Image Identity and Dazzle As Only You Can. In this episode I rip a takeaway out of his system and relate it to how you can use separates strategically in your wardrobe.

If you want to save yourself the HOURS women spend trying to decipher their Kibbe type, here’s an alternative: you can do as one of my very first clients did. After I gave her her body type information and my recommendations, she asked me if I had any idea what her Kibbe type was. I was able to reverse engineer from my recommendations to a Kibbe type, which she resonated with but would never have gotten to using his methods. 13. 139 🔸 Wardrobe Planning When You're Starting From Zero

    Show notes

Almost every wardrobe planning system assumes you already have clothes in your closet.

Sometimes a closet empties all at once. A new job in a completely different field. A fire or a flood. Leaving suddenly without being able to take anything with you.

This episode covers what to buy first when there's nothing to work with, and how few pieces it takes before you're covered. It's about eight.

Then it covers what that order can't answer. Which trouser shape. Which neckline. How long the jacket should be. There are three things about your own architecture that answer those questions, and each one lines up with a layer you're already buying.

There's also a woman who came to me after her house burned down. She had insurance money to replace everything and could have finished the whole thing in a single weekend. She wanted to be sure that what she bought would actually be right for her.

She was the mom of twin toddlers. She came in wanting to take the plunge and wear something besides tees and jeans. Mostly what she ended up with was tees and jeans, and she looked put together at the playground in a t-shirt.

Letting your Style DNA lead your wardrobe planning is the most effective way to build a closet that looks like you instead of the one you had before.

    Show notes

Marie Kondo got closet editing partly right. Category based sorting works. A defined timeline works. But asking you to judge one sweater at a time was never going to get you all the way there.

Marie Kondo asks you to hold one item and wait for joy, but building your favorite outfits first is what actually reveals what belongs in your closet.

This week: what works in the joy test, and how to build a wardrobe from outfits you already love.

  15. 137🔸Why Compliments Don't Confirm Your Personal Color Palette

    Show notes

Getting a compliment on a color you're wearing is not the same as being seen.

Most women have at least one color in their closet that draws compliments regularly and still feels wrong somehow. Like what's being noticed isn't quite them. There's a reason for that.

Most color advice asks what looks good on you, but your personal color palette should start with who you are.

In this episode we look at why compliments aren't proof your colors are right for you, what your colors are actually communicating whether you intended it or not, and what it looks like to build a palette that starts with your personality instead of just your undertone.

  16. 136🔸The Conscious Closet Philosophy Nobody Talks About

    Show notes

The conscious closet conversation focuses heavily on where clothing comes from.

It almost never talks about what happens in the middle.

Every garment you own is moving through a lifecycle whether you engage with it or not. A garment depreciating unworn in your closet is waste just as much as a landfill is.

Locating yourself in a garment's lifecycle is the most generous thing you can do for your conscious closet and for the rest of humanity.

This episode looks at what conscious stewardship actually looks like at the beginning, middle, and end of a garment's life, and why the most generous thing you can do with a piece of clothing might be to let it go.

  17. 135🔸What Ramit Sethi Gets Right About Clothing and Your Budget

    Show notes

Most women were never taught that clothing belongs in a budget. They were taught it was the first thing to cut.

Ramit Sethi's Conscious Spending Plan treats basic clothing the same as rent and groceries: a non-negotiable cost of being a functioning human. Elevated clothing gets its own intentional category. Neither one requires an apology.

But here's what his framework doesn't tell you. A clothing budget without Style DNA clarity is still mostly guesswork. You can fund the category generously and still feel like you have nothing to wear.

Most women inherited a script that says clothing is frivolous, but Ramit Sethi's framework treats it as a line item, and your Style DNA is what makes that work.

That's what this episode is about.

  18. 134🔸How Kids Develop a Unique Style (And How Parents Accidentally Get in the Way)

    Show notes

Most of us were never handed a verdict on purpose. Someone just made a choice, and we made it mean something.

This episode starts with a brown gingham dress and a six-year-old who drew the wrong conclusion. It ends with a journaling prompt that may be the beginning of a thread worth pulling.

Recovering your own eye is the most effective way to finally embody your unique style.

We cover three ideas: how childhood style experiences form us, what goes wrong when outside systems arrive before self-knowledge is solid, and what it actually looks like to do the repair work as an adult.

There is also a practical note for parents on which style frameworks are appropriate at which ages, and when to wait.

  19. 133🔸What Harriet McJimsey Really Understood About Style Archetypes

    Show notes

Harriet McJimsey introduced style archetypes in 1963. What she built was a whole-person reading system. What the popular adaptations kept was mostly the body-typing.

Understanding your style archetypes as a whole-person reading, not a body-typing exercise, is the most effective way to develop your signature style. This episode traces the real lineage: what McJimsey actually built, how Kibbe, Kitchener, and others adapted it, and what gets restored when you come back to the original method.

    Show notes

Most women who resist hiring a personal stylist think the resistance is about money or confidence. It isn't. It's about a very specific fear: that you'll come out looking polished and put-together and completely unlike yourself.

In this episode I name the three real reasons that resistance shows up, why they make complete sense, and what a process looks like that starts with your wiring instead of your wardrobe.
