The Late Night Show With BigFoot | SoberNotSober Ep.57
Episode 57
Show notes
It's our Halloween special and things get... weird. Grant sits down with a very special guest — Bigfoot himself — for the interview of a lifetime. We cover deforestation, interdimensional travel, what it's like working with Bryan Cranston and M. Night Shyamalan on Blurry Image Walking Next to River in Forest Part 2, and why Bigfoot eats his own droppings. Plus the shocking reveal that it's actually Daniel Day-Lewis in the biggest role of his career.
After the Bigfoot bit falls apart, we get into:
• Deep dive on the horror show From on Netflix — theories, spoilers, and why the producers turned down a sixth season
• Hunter x Hunter rewatch talk and the insane workload of long-running manga artists
• A Nic Cage dyed-beard rant and Grant's excitement for his future "Clooney years"
• A ghost tour through Phoenix's Winnie Ruth Judd house — the suitcase murderer's home, now owned by a lawyer who won't let ghost hunters inside
• The scariest thing we saw on that tour: a full turd, no toilet paper, at the Hyatt Place Downtown Phoenix
• A serious conversation about the homeless crisis, mental health resources, and what actually helping people looks like
• Legendary high school Halloween party stories: the great wall escape, the broken tibia, and 60 teenagers scattering into the Arizona wash
• Grant's first time doing shrooms while playing Call of Duty: World at War Zombies — followed by a four-hour solo pool session
• Mikayla hitting spice juice out of a mod and walking home through "a straw"
• First time dabbing and why Grant thought his feet stopped workingLike, comment, and subscribe. Tell us Bigfoot is cute. Tell us the hunter is cuter. Happy Halloween — stay safe out there. Love you long time.

The Etymology Of Hella | SoberNotSober Ep.56
Episode 56
Show notes
Welcome back to Sober Not Sober! This week, Grant and Mekaylay unpack the etymology of "hella" (is it more than "a lot" or less than "copious"?), debate renting vs. buying in Arizona's brutal rental market, and share some truly unhinged Arizona neighbor stories — including a listener submission about a Quartzsite local who buried actual landmines in his yard and Mekaylay's childhood neighbor who dug a 12-foot hole at 3 AM on what we can only assume was a lot of meth.

And stick around for Krillion, where wine knowledge somehow saves the day, and the birth of the Sober Cinematic Universe — a country EP, a screamo LP, and a novel that definitely isn't called "Spooky Book."

Shower With The Boys | SoberNotSober Ep.55
Episode 55
Show notes
Caleb Williams got booty neked and showered with the team. That's a leader. That's team camaraderie. At least, that's Mekaylay's argument — and he's not backing down.
This week on Sober Not Sober, Grant and Mekaylay cover everything from billionaire purchases and Jeff Bezos hunting for Apollo 11 thrusters, to a guy on a Harley cranking Soulja Boy with no hands on the handlebars. Grant breaks down the brutal Master Sommelier Level 4 exam — including a service portion that sounds like a literal humiliation ritual — and tries (unsuccessfully) to get Mekaylay to watch the Somm documentary.
Plus: NFL vs. soccer (the eternal debate), Chris Collinsworth won't shut up, Mike Tomlin's Minecraft world (is it real?), tainted baby names, Grant's acting audition for Aegon the Conqueror, Mekaylay's 18-inch albino nip hair, a cat rescue cafe with bulletproof glass (no kids allowed), Speedo discourse, and the boys play Krillion live on air.

If You're Still Balding in 2026...What Are You Doing!? | SoberNotSober Ep.54
Episode 54
Show notes
We kick things off with a genuine séance for Caleb Williams and his hamstring — because if prayer works, a full-blown spell cast has to work better, right? From there, things spiral into a rant about the state of online advertising: the aggressive balding ads, the "we lied" TikTok Shop hustle, and how ad agencies have completely lost the plot. We also get into what makes a podcast authentic (and why we physically couldn't fake it if we tried), followed by a deep dive into a classic AP World thought experiment — if you put seven babies on an island with zero outside influence, do they develop greed, lying, and racism on their own? The answer might say more about us than them.
Later, we break down TikTok vs. Instagram's algorithm, get nostalgic about Coolmath Games and Addicting Games, and discover the niche trivia goldmine that is Krillion. We also take a somber moment to remember Pokekid Avery, a 12-year-old Pokémon creator who brought genuine light to the community before losing his battle with cancer. Then we tackle the question of who's funnier — men or women — shout out Lisa Gilroy and Jordan Jensen, debate whether Ryan Murphy's Lizzie Borden series needed a steam-engine d****, and argue about whether able-bodied actors should play disabled characters (Bryan Cranston, Gary Oldman, and the kid from Glee all enter the chat). We close out with some questionable hip-hop lyric recitations and a reminder to keep the séance playing on loop for Caleb.
If you enjoy show don't forget to subscribe and follow us on all platforms it helps a ton! we are closing in on 200 subscribers so seriously thank you to everyone! see you all next week.

Thing About Life Is… It’s Every Day | SoberNotSober Ep.53
Episode 53
Show notes
This one gets real. We sit down in the therapist's chair and actually talk about it — the never-ending loop of work, bills, and just trying to survive. Why does everything cost money just to leave the house? Why does it feel like you have to sacrifice your time, your energy, or your sanity just to get ahead? And if you don't have a trust fund or a backing, what are your actual options?
We also break down the Chicago Bears dropping 59 points in week one (Caleb Williams is him), why paying $465 for health insurance that doesn't even work at your local urgent care is criminal, how over-capitalism is squeezing the middle class dry, and why therapy helps you cope but can't pay your rent.
No, we're not a political podcast. But we're also not going to pretend the world isn't on fire.
So — how are YOU doing? Comment below. We're listening.

It's the one-year anniversary and we're celebrating the only way we know how — in suits we hate wearing, with scotch we can barely afford, and a 9/11 joke that should've stayed in the drafts. We reflect on 52 weeks of consistency nobody asked for, how we've grown as people (debatable), and why we still make zero money doing this.
This week: Grant drops some big news about Animal Crossing that nobody saw coming, Mekaylay goes feral over Buc-ee's and won't shut up about it, and we somehow end up debating whether J. Cole lyrics could become religious scripture in 2,000 years. Plus — line readings, Tom Brady's parenting, why Grant wants to transition into an 85-year-old woman, and a heartfelt thanks to anyone who's still watching.

Episode 51
Show notes
What would you give to experience your favorite things for the very first time again? This week, Grant and Mekaylay take a nostalgic trip down memory lane, revisiting the movies, games, albums, and moments they wish they could wipe from their minds just to relive the magic. From the first dragon kill in Skyrim and the jaw-dropping opening notes of Childish Gambino's "Awaken, My Love," to Happy Feet, GoldenEye marathons after trick-or-treating, and the electric rush of a first Fortnite Victory Royale — no first experience is off limits.
But it's not all good vibes. The guys also dive into the disturbing and deeply divisive Lindsay Clancy case — a mistrial, a grieving family, and a justice system that can't seem to agree on what happened. Plus: Grant officially declares himself a Bears fan, the Good Good/Callaway disaster gets put on blast, Tom Hardy is apparently a Wu-Tang rapper now, and Dr. Pepper Tic Tacs get an unsponsored review.
Oh, and a grandma's dog went missing mid-recording. so this is a complete redo. if you like to see part of the missing episode it will be on our patreon soon!

We Haven't Mastered Anything | SoberNotSober Ep.50
Episode 50
Show notes
It's the big 5-0 and we're celebrating with golden snitch cookies, tequila, and absolutely zero composure. Grant and Mekaylay kick things off debating pre-gaming culture before diving into the legendary story of Sheldon — the most polite man on the phone who turned out to be a 6'5" Nigerian bodybuilder who benches 350 for fun. Mekaylay shares a dream he had about Grant showing up to the pod in full drag, Grant confesses to having two laundry baskets in his bedroom, and Mekaylay recounts the time his dad ripped a dab pen in a crowded restaurant and got thanked for his military service (he never served).
Then things get philosophical with a new segment: Masters of Craft. The boys debate who the true GOATs are across music, film, YouTube, and beyond — from Michael Jackson and Ozzy Osbourne to Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Lady Gaga, Donald Glover, and MrBeast's terrifying thumbnail empire. Plus: Grant goes on an Arsenal rant, Danny Worsnop's screamo Grinch cover gets its flowers, and the episode somehow ends with a passionate case for orca conservation and Mexican gray wolf rehabilitation.
Shouts out Sheldon. Shouts out Hispanic wolves. Say the R word with your friends or don't we really don't care.

Consider Getting A Mother | SoberNotSober Ep.49
Episode 49
Show notes
Grant and Mekaylay are back with a sprawling episode that somehow connects Rascal Flatts Halloween costumes to the meaning of life. The duo debates the hierarchy of light beers (Miller Lite vs. Coors Banquet vs. Dos Equis), discovers that Harley has never had blood drawn, and Grant shares a traumatic childhood story about a Ciprodex allergy that turned his ear into a golf ball at Boys & Girls Club. Mekaylay reveals his own baby-era allergy to Augmentin before open-heart surgery — which Grant helpfully compares to a chemical from The Boys.
Grant pours an Emil Beyer Grand Cru Riesling from Alsace, France and gives full sommelier tasting notes (petrol, peach, gooseberry, limestone) while Mekaylay gives a beautiful break down of his Hawaiian Shaved Ice energy drink. The two then build increasingly unhinged "death row breakfast" orders — Grant's involves a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel, three pancakes, home-style potatoes, and a side omelet — before spiraling into nostalgia over Toaster Scrambles, Jimmy Dean pancake-wrapped sausages, and the McDonald's Big Mac Bundle Box.
The conversation shifts to what they do to unwind: Grant drums to Tool and Sleep Token, sings full-throated in his car for two hours a day, plays Black Myth: Wukong, and rewatches the entire Harry Potter series every winter. Mekaylay recommends the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown and makes the case for Nintendo Switch immersion as therapy. A Wii Sports session leads Grant to the realization that he can look like 500 different archetypes of white dude — a claim backed up by comparisons to Adam Driver, Chris Evans, young Nic Cage, and "white Childish Gambino."
Things get real when the conversation turns to stress, mental health, and what it means to "lock in." Mekaylay and Harley describe a life of constant readiness shaped by family health crises and adult responsibilities, while Grant opens up about his own anxiety spiral, reading Taoism, and trying to move his emotional baseline from negative to neutral. The episode closes with potential new podcast taglines, a Patreon book club idea, a plea for listener scary stories, and the email: sobernotsober69@gmail.com.

Doing Our Best With The Tools We Have | SoberNotSober Ep.48
Episode 48
Show notes
Grant kicks things off with a controversial confession that rocks the anime world — Fullmetal Alchemist is officially a 10, not a 9.4. From there, the boys pour into a deep dive on New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (Saint Clair, Marlborough, $20, way better than Kim Crawford), the difference between bourbon and whiskey, and why Grant's stomach can't handle corn-based spirits. Mekaylay brings his "movie of the summer" pick — Minions and Monsters — which turns out to be a plot-heavy gay love story between two minions named James and Henry, set in Hollywood, with zero comprehensible dialogue. It's somehow art.
Grant shares a wild encounter with a urologist at a wine tasting who casually mentions he's seen 50 you know what's a week, complains about getting picked up in a Cybertruck, and offers unsolicited opinions on yoga pants. Meanwhile, Grant's apartment hunt is humbling him in real time — $35/month parking, $50/month cat fees, and valet trash you didn't ask for. He's also doing laundry on a geological timescale and wearing his long gone grandma's... something.
The conversation gets real as the guys dig into healthy habits, screen time, and whether audiobooks count as reading (they don't, but they're fine). Grant rants about AI — the water waste, the slop albums (Tyga, we're looking at you), and why Auto-Tune comparisons don't hold up. Mekaylay opens up about his sobriety journey, his complicated relationship with AA, and why being told he's a piece of poo 24/7 might actually push him toward relapse rather than away from it.
Plus: five cavities and $1,300 at the dentist, the Chris Watts case and his new "wife," and a call to build something real. Like, comment, subscribe — Grant may or may not show his nips next week

What's The Worst Thing You've Ever Done? | SoberNotSober Ep.47
Episode 47
Show notes
Grant and Mekaylay are back with zero agenda again and its the last time. This one's a wild ride from start to finish — kicking off with a spirited (and slightly unhinged) review of the new Spider-Man movie that somehow devolves into a full-blown debate about Marvel's entire cinematic universe. Which movies actually matter? Should you skip the Thors? Is Civil War secretly the best one? Grant breaks it all down while Mekaylay plots his watchlist and Harley judges from behind the camera.
From there, the guys ricochet through Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX, a hard pivot into true crime with the Bryan Kohberger case, a heated defense of "Bohemian Rhapsody" as the greatest song ever made, and a nostalgic spiral into Taio Cruz and Usher deep cuts. Things get weird when Mekaylay recounts spotting a couple in their mid-50s full-on making out on a park bench at 9 AM in 110-degree heat — leading to a surprisingly thoughtful tangent about public affection, sugar daddy dynamics, and whether love is love (in all forms, allegedly).
Then comes the real damage: a confessional segment where the guys own up to the worst things they did as teenagers. Grant steals a wheelchair from a thrift store and then fakes a disability at a grocery store — towel over the legs and all. Harley's church vandalism gets aired out. And Mekaylay drops the atomic bomb: he peed in a jug of bubbles at an elementary school playground and left it there in the Arizona heat for kids to find. They're not proud. They're not sorry enough. But they are honest.
The episode closes out with Danny DeVito worship, a deep dive into LeBron's wine palate vs. Grant's self-proclaimed sommelier credentials, a very serious claim that Grant could strike LeBron out in baseball, and a nostalgic trip back to Little League glory days — complete with lollipop pitching, black eyes, and one coach who ruined everything.
It's messy, it's honest, and it's exactly what happens when two high school friends put a microphone between them and hit record. Come for the Spider-Man goo talk, stay for the stolen valor.

Happy Birthday, Leo King | SoberNotSober Ep.46
Show notes
Grant walked into this episode having already done three shots of tequila. Mekaylay walked in completely sober. One of them is turning 27 today. This is that episode.
The birthday chaos kicks off before they even hit record — Mekaylay set up a tequila trick where Grant was told two glasses were water and one was tequila. Spoiler: they were all tequila. Grant figured it out mid-second shot and still finished the third. Producer Harley somehow ended up being the mastermind. Nobody won, everybody lost, and now we're here.
Once the gifts come out, things get genuinely sweet. Grant spent real thought on this: a cupcake hiding a cold Alani inside it, a premium custom t-shirt featuring Mekaylay's greatest podcast quotes (printed in burnt orange, a nod to their failed background era), a "Two Cats" art piece built on the two-wolves philosophy because Grant decided that was peak Leo energy, and a pair of spooky cauldron mugs because Halloween is always around the corner in this household. Mekaylay's reaction to the quote shirt alone is worth the watch.
Then Grant puts Mekaylay in the hot seat: name five things you actually like about yourself, not just things you're proud of. What follows is one of the more unexpectedly genuine stretches of the pod — Mekaylay talks his beard, his sense of humor, being a present husband, financial responsibility, and taking care of his household. Grant then has to do the same, drunk, unprepared, and deeply uncomfortable with the exercise.
Along the way: Grant's theater kid past coming to light, a very sober visit to a gay bar, a pregnant woman ordering a full wine flight, the dangers of herbal tea during pregnancy, ancient Roman abortion methods, and a surprisingly tender conversation about what sobriety actually does to your sleep and your inner monologue at night.
It's Mekaylay's birthday. Nobody behaved. It was perfect.

Teacher, Can I Be Next for Popcorn Reading? | SoberNotSober Ep.45
Episode 45
Show notes
This week, Grant and Mekaylay are back on the couch (a very expensive, very large, 14-foot couch, for the record) with Harley & Domino in the booth per usual.
We kick things off with Grant's ongoing war against people who cannot say his name correctly. One syllable. Four letters. G-R-A-N-T. Not Brandt. Not Brandt. Not Tyler. After a trip to Hawaiian Bros ended in a full-on identity crisis at the pickup counter, Grant has developed a very specific — and very controversial — theory about who in America is most likely to get his name right. Spoiler: it tracks.
Then we dive into the origin story nobody asked for: how Grant got his name. Hint — it has nothing to do with Ulysses S. Grant, and everything to do with Chamber of Commerce paperwork. His dad could've lied. He didn't. Respect the honesty, question the parenting.
From there, the crew gets into baby names — specifically Mekaylay and Harley's taste in baby names, which can only be described as "aggressively stripper-coded." Cherry Hill. Bambi Hill. These are real suggestions that were made out loud by adults. Grant holds it together. Barely.
The conversation naturally drifts into whether or not any of them even want kids, Harley's iconic quote about what a baby is going to do for her in the first five years, and a surprisingly wholesome detour about cats, boxes, and what it actually feels like to take care of something outside yourself. It gets deep. Then it gets weird again.
We run through everyone's Five Things Worth Spending the Money On — and Five Things That Are Not Worth It But We're Doing It Anyway. Grant's list includes range golf ball buckets, a Crunchyroll subscription, and a $120 bottle of Leonetti Merlot. Mekaylay brings an electric vehicle, Costco Parmesan, and caffeine in any form. Harley adds crystals, a Kindle, and a Roomba for the five-cat household. Grant's "not worth it" list includes water delivery, Titleist golf balls he absolutely does not need, and going out socially — which he does anyway if you twist his arm.
Then there's a full World Cup breakdown — Spain winning, Argentina's embarrassing final performance, zero shots on target in regulation, the post-match controversy, and Grant's very sincere plea for Nico Williams to join Arsenal. Mekaylay correctly identifies an anime battle from a passing window at 9 PM. Grant is watching That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and is not ashamed.
The back half of the episode goes fully off the rails with Line Reads and Act Outs,
including: Multiple emotional deliveries of "Oh, you misheard. I don't have an order for Brandt."
"Sell him for pennies. We'll make more." — in every conceivable tone, including Bruce Buffer and a tiny girl villain.
"Teacher, can I be next for popcorn reading?" — hot & bothered, British, exquisite, and armed. Luke Skywalker breaking some very unfortunate news to Darth Vader about Leia.
Two crane operators on 9/11 who are way too close to the towers but still have dirt to move.
A lot lizard at a truck stop with absolutely no moral compass.
Mekaylay confronting the ticket ripper who sent him the wrong direction at the theater.

Alcoholism And Schizophrenia Have Their Darkest Days. | SoberNotSober Ep.44
Episode 44
Show notes
Mekaylay and Grant are back for their most vulnerable episode yet — and somehow also one of the most unhinged.
They kick things off by choosing THIS podcast over a presidential address (their words), before diving into real talk about the broken American healthcare system — specifically the infuriating red tape that disabled people face just to get the basic equipment they need to live.
Then things get personal. Mekaylay opens up about the night his dad had a massive stroke on his 60th birthday, the race to the hospital, being told by a nurse that he had "five strikes" and was basically already dead — and how he handled all of it the only way she knew how at 19: by drinking. Grant shares his own story of finding out he had schizoaffective disorder by accidentally seeing it on a computer screen at a mental health facility, and what it was like navigating that diagnosis as a kid who'd already lost his best friend to cancer and his grandfather in the same year.
In between the heavy stuff, they talk about: the "you're the screen, not the movie" philosophy they actually use to manage anxiety and depression, why they started this podcast in the first place, and why negative comments on the internet say more about the commenter than the creator.
Then somehow the episode pivots to even more traumatic life moments — Mekaylay watched a man die at the Grand Canyon (complete with a sudden hailstorm the moment he turned purple), and Grant rode along with his girlfriend's firefighter dad at age 12 to watch a guy get confirmed dead in a hospital elevator... and then come back.
They close it out with an Am I the A**hole about a woman unknowingly exposing her b***hole in a hot Pilates class, which leads to a surprisingly nuanced ethical debate and too many creative synonyms for the human rear end.
Real, raw, and ridiculous — exactly as intended.

We Could Flop Way Better In This World Cup | SoberNotSober Ep.43
Episode 43
Show notes
Grant and Mekaylay are back, and this one's got a little bit of everything. The episode kicks off with the boys trying — and immediately failing — a no-cussing challenge, which becomes a running gag throughout the entire show. From there, the conversation spirals into the 2026 World Cup. They both somehow end up rooting for Norway because of Erling Haaland. Along the way, Grant describes perhaps the most unhinged six-second commercial he's ever seen: Lowrider Lawyers — a genuine fever dream of an ad that aired during a Colombia vs. Switzerland match and cannot be explained, only experienced.
Things get weirder from there. The duo explores the rabbit hole of soccer players commenting on their own lookalike TikToks (shoutout Haaland and Declan "Jollof" Rice), and talk about why USA got embarrassed by Belgium's B-team, and debate the very real overlap between hockey and soccer when it comes to flopping. Grant shares his mom's accidental Threads debut — a mild political post that somehow attracted 187 comments of pure fury against her 18 likes — which leads to a genuine and surprisingly thoughtful conversation about political posting, cancel culture, and why nobody online has ever changed anyone's mind about anything except maybe the price of gas.
Then it gets creative: Grant introduces an improv game inspired by Dropout TV's Game Changers, and the two attempt several bits including a 1950s sports commentator calling Grant Gibson's catastrophic career-ending injury, a monster from Monsters Inc. who's way too familiar with the kid he's supposed to scare, and a very drunk man trying to turn away a Girl Scout. The bits are rough-draft gold.
The back half of the episode takes a personal turn — Mekaylay shares his four-year Prozac experience (and the unsolicited advice from rehab about what the medication can do to a man's ability to, uh, finish), and they celebrate Louis C.K.'s Netflix comeback. Grant predicted it episodes ago and is thrilled to be right.
And then, inevitably: poop. Mekaylay recounts a near-disaster emergency bathroom stop at a Jackson Hole fine dining establishment that turned out to have — inexplicably — a trough urinal. Grant confesses to intentionally blacking himself out to cure hiccups and cracking his head on a dresser. And finally, Harley witnesses a lone man doing what he absolutely had to do on the side of a desolate Idaho highway, prompting a lengthy and genuine debate about whether he's the a**hole. (He is not.) The hosts call out to the internet to help identify this roadside hero.
If you made it this far, we love you.

Yellowstone Is Amazing, Old Faithful Isn't | SoberNotSober Ep.42
Episode 42
Show notes
Welcome back to Sober Not Sober, the podcast where two best friends keep it completely unfiltered, occasionally try to be better people, and almost always fail in the most entertaining way possible. Episode 42 is here, and after a little time away, Grant and Mekaylay return to the mic rustier than a park bench in a rainstorm — and we mean that in the best way.
Before we even get into the good stuff, the duo attempts to do an entire episode without dropping a single curse word. A noble goal. A respectable challenge. It lasts approximately 30 seconds. The swear jar is proposed, budgets are discussed, Paper Mario references are made, and somehow it all spirals into a full breakdown of whether golf scores count if you shoot them alone. (Grant says 71. The people are skeptical.)
But the real story of this episode? Yellowstone.
Mekaylay took a trip out to one of America's most iconic national parks — bison, hot springs, endless wilderness, the whole deal — and came back with one very controversial opinion: Old Faithful was not that cool. Yeah, he said it. One of the most famous geysers on the entire planet, a natural wonder that has been erupting on schedule for thousands of years, and Mekaylay's take is basically "I've seen better." He stood there with what felt like half the country's tourist population, waited for the big moment, watched it go off… and felt nothing. Was he expecting too much? Was it the crowd? Was it the heat? Is Mekaylay simply broken inside? All of this gets unpacked in Episode 42.
And look — if you've ever made a long drive, paid for a AirBnB (millions of dollars), packed your bags, and stood in front of something everyone told you was going to be incredible, only to think "huh, that's it" — you already understand exactly where Mekaylay is coming from. Sometimes the hype is bigger than the moment, and sometimes the most honest thing you can do is just say it out loud on a podcast.
Between the Yellowstone rant, the golf obsession, the failed clean-language experiment, and the usual chaotic energy that comes with Grant and Mekaylay sharing a microphone, Episode 42 is exactly the kind of episode that reminds you why you subscribed in the first place. It's real, it's funny, it goes absolutely nowhere on purpose, and somehow it's exactly what you needed to hear today.
So sit back, put your headphones in, and enjoy the return of your favorite podcast duo. They missed you. Probably.

A Midsommar S*x Cult Episode, Happy 4th! | SoberNotSober Ep.41
Show notes
This episode kicks off with Grant confessing his deepest shame — running out of 6mg Wintergreen Zyns before a shift and having to white-knuckle through work on weak 3mg Velos like a civilian. From there, Mekaylay takes a detour to the casino with their buddy Taylor, swapping war stories about the one time they walked out of Talking Stick up $800 because a dealer told them to leave. Grant also recounts cleaning up at a fake-money casino event on like day five of his new job and winning half the raffle table.
The World Cup is in full swing, and the guys weigh in — Germany nearly getting embarrassed by Ivory Coast, the US advancing, and the truly bizarre decision to host matches in Missouri. Grant breaks down the hydration timeout rule for non-football people and they briefly ponder the population of Curaçao.
Grant finally watched Midsommar. He gives it an 8.6, mostly because the boyfriend deserves everything he gets, and he and Mekaylay get into a broader conversation about why slow-burn psychological horror hits different than jump-scare factory stuff — with a detour through Shutter Island and a Wes Anderson comparison that actually makes sense.
Things get real in the back half. Mekaylay opens up about his time in detox — what the facility was actually like, the guy who checked in and bolted after one shower, and watching other people go through withdrawal. Grant shares why he keeps showing up to record every week, shouting out Basement Yard and Rick Glassman as the podcasters who made him want to do this in the first place. The two get into a genuine conversation about the mental-to-physical crossover of addiction, what it looks like when your body stops functioning without a substance, and why relapse is part of more recovery stories than people admit.
Oh, and someone emailed in with a sobriety date four months before Mekaylay's. Shouts out.

If You Have To Ask, It's Probably You #2 | SoberNotSober Ep.40
Episode 40

Happy Father's Day (to the fathers AND non-fathers out there)! Grant and Mekaylay are back with a pre-recorded ep while Mekaylay and Harley hit Yellowstone — because consistency is the brand even on vacation. Weekly episodes, no matter what. This week the duo dives into Reddit's "Am I the A**hole?" including a mom outing her gay son by casually asking if his boyfriend was coming toa family vacation, a mother-in-law making a dead mom joke to a very pregnant woman, and the legendary workplace saga of Jean, Jorts, and a coworker named Pam who thinks calling an orange cat dumb is a racial microaggression. (It's not, Pam.) Plus: live NBA Finals commentary with the Knicks vs. Spurs series, a wild Karen encounter at Ace Hardware, a deep dive into a True Crime podcast called "Feed Me, F* Me, Kill Me," Grant's ongoing $120/month water delivery addiction, the hunt for Grant's new apartment (washer/dryer in-unit is non-negotiable), and a shoutout to The Escape Podcast and Professor Sendy. Like, comment, subscribe — so we can eventually rent out Madison Square Garden and scream about whatever we want. 📧 SoberNotSober69@gmail.com 📲 @SoberNotSober everywhere else

Is This Anime Worth Watching? | SoberNotSober Ep.39
Episode 39
Show notes
Grant and Mekaylay are back for episode 39, and this one gets nerdy — in the best way. Grant runs through his full anime tier list (yes, there's a ranking system), makes a case for why Vinland Saga and Frieren deserve your attention, and challenges Mekaylay to guess which show is the anime: a brutal Viking saga about a boy watching his father get murdered, or a sci-fi thriller about scientists dying and the night sky sending Morse code. (Spoiler) Mekaylay has seen one of them on TikTok. Mekaylay's Grandmas dog Clyde shows up hurt. Their old elementary school is for sale for $21 million. The Elliot Army was apparently using it. And somehow, all roads lead back to why anime conventions smell the way they do. Like, comment, subscribe — and wash between your folds.

A Thriller Of An Episode | SoberNotSober Ep.38
Episode 38
Show notes
Grant and Mekaylay are back yet again. This week: Grant finally admits he played Troy Bolton in an elementary school production of High School Musical (yes, against his will), and Mekaylay shares his preschool mic moment that ended with a teacher losing her mind. Then things get serious — Grant went down a Michael Jackson documentary rabbit hole until midnight and comes in with a full breakdown of the 2005 trial. They dig into the Arizo family, the Bashir documentary, the Neverland raid, and whether the mom was running a con from the start. Real talk, minimal filter. Plus: horoscopes (Mekaylay is the alpha Leo and he will not let you forget it), soccer chants vs. American sports heckling, the movie Jawanna Man, and someone in their hometown put up a sign that says "Brenda cheats at bowling." You'll have to listen.
