It's the 40th anniversary of Nickelodeon's Double Dare, and this time we got the real story straight from the source. Geoffrey Darby, executive producer and co-creator of the series, joins us to break down exactly how the show came together: the Nabisco pilot, nearly going over budget, and the theory of game shows that shaped the format.

We cover the shoestring budget that somehow made over 70 episodes, the set design tricks borrowed from Password and the Olympics, the real story behind the one ton human hamster wheel, why they turned down a million dollars from Casio, and the on set mishaps that never aired. Then we close things out with our Splat Stanly segment, Retro Replay, where we put our own knowledge of the show to the test.

If you want more Double Dare content, check out our earlier episode where we talked to Robin and Marc Summers about the messiest moments on the show. https://youtu.be/ssfvHzW6T10

We cover the celebrity cameo list, the merchandising boom, the ASL connection with Marley Matlin, and a genuine fan mystery around the "Blue Skidoo" catchphrase that nobody can quite verify.

Then stick around for our closing segment, Tuned 'N, where we each pick the song that reminds us most of Blue's Clues.

Welcome to the Slime Sewer, a brand new format on Splat Attack Podcast where we dig up the worst episodes from our favorite 90s Nickelodeon shows and put them on trial.

This episode, Cat defends "All You Can Eaty" from Space Cases and Alex defends "The Tale of the Virtual Pets" from Are You Afraid of the Dark. Only one episode survives. The other gets flushed and branded Worst of the Worst.

Joining us as judge is Courtland from Up All Night Podcast, a horror anthology show that has covered every episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark, Goosebumps, Tales from the Crypt, and more.

We break down the science defying plot of the metal eating creature known as Eaty, the AI before AI was cool storyline of Digger the virtual pet, the behind the scenes network drama that ended Space Cases, and we even rewrite the endings ourselves in our "Can You Top This?" segment.

They were the ones hiding behind their best friend. The ones who said "I don't think this is such a good idea" and "I'm nauseous" while the world fell apart around them. But what if the scaredy-cats were actually the bravest characters Nickelodeon ever wrote?

In this Character Study, we put Chuckie Finster from Rugrats and Filburt from Rocko's Modern Life side by side, and the parallels are wild. Two anxious, glasses-wearing best friends who were way more than punchlines. We break down their personalities, their families, their surprising moments of courage, and why an entire generation saw themselves in these two nervous wrecks.

We also play Wild Card — tossing Chuckie and Filburt into scenarios with other neurotic characters. The last option had us laughing.

Chuckie or Filburt: who do YOU relate to more? Drop it in the comments!

Splat Attack is back with a brand new episode battle! This time we're heading into the woods to revisit The Angry Beavers and two of its most beloved music-themed episodes. Manny defends "Bummer of Love" (the Woodstock-inspired love story where Norbert meets Treeflower) while Alex makes the case for "Beaver Fever" (the disco-fueled ride where the beaver bros becomes one-hit-wonder pop sensations under the guidance of manager Ted Browman). Cat serves as judge, scoring each episode across five battle categories: Story, Main Characters, Supporting Characters, Use of Music Theme, and Lasting Appeal.
