#62 From The Trop To The Kingdom
Show notes
What can baseball teach us about belonging, friendship, joy, and following Jesus?
In this episode, Pastor Tim sits down with Dan a devoted Tampa Bay Rays fan, husband, and member of the BridgePoint community for a conversation about faith and fandom. They talk playoff baseball, treasured memories at the Trop, an impressive bobblehead collection, and the way sports can turn strangers into friends in a matter of minutes.
But the conversation goes deeper than the game.
Dan shares how ordinary moments, watching a game, playing basketball, exchanging numbers with someone new, or receiving flowers from a friend during grief—can become the ground where genuine community grows. Because doing life together requires more than occupying the same church building. It requires vulnerability, intentionality, and a willingness to show up when staying home would be easier.
They also wrestle with an honest question: How do we enjoy something deeply without allowing it to become our identity? Sports can offer excitement and escape, but only Jesus can provide lasting joy, purpose, and hope. As Psalm 34:18 reminds us, the Lord remains near to the brokenhearted even after the final out.
This conversation is about baseball, but it is also about finding your people, carrying your faith beyond the church walls, and recovering a childlike joy that points back to Jesus.

#61 The Gospel Does Not Stop With You
Show notes
The gospel was never meant to stop with you. It was meant to move through you.
In the conclusion of the Run Your Mouth series, Pastor Tim Riddick challenges us to consider what happens when the church possesses the most powerful message in history but keeps it trapped inside four walls. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus are not private treasures to protect. They are good news to proclaim.
Jesus did not suggest that we go, He commanded it: “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel” (Mark 16:15). That mission does not belong only to pastors and missionaries. It belongs to every person who has been changed by Christ.
But before the gospel can pour through us, it must continue filling us. Colossians 1:22–23 reminds us that through Jesus, we have been reconciled and presented holy and blameless before God. We share from that settled place not from guilt, pressure, or the need to save anyone ourselves.
You are not the Savior. You are the witness.
Preach the gospel to yourself every morning. Share it with the person God has placed before you. The world does not need a polished performance it needs believers willing to open their mouths and tell the truth about Jesus.

#60 For The Sake Of Others
Show notes
God’s heart is for the one and He is calling us to go after them.
In week two of Run Your Mouth, Pastor Tim Riddick confronts the way Christians can treat evangelism like extra credit: important in theory, but optional in practice. Jesus never approached lost people that way. He crossed the distance, entered their world, and came “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).
The lost sheep in Luke 15 was not worthless or hopeless it simply wasn’t home yet. So the shepherd refused to remain comfortable with ninety-nine while one was still wandering. That same pursuit shaped Paul, who laid down his preferences and became “all things to all people” for the sake of the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:19–23).
Who is your one? The friend, relative, coworker, or classmate God keeps placing on your heart?
They are not a project. They are a person loved by God and worth pursuing. Evangelism is not about waiting for someone to wander into church. It means going where they are, entering uncomfortable conversations, and building bridges without compromising the truth.
Identify your one. Take a step this week. Go after them because the gospel is worth it, and so are they.

#59 Run Your Mouth
Show notes
What if the thing you believe disqualifies you is the very place where God wants to display His power?
In this kickoff to the Run Your Mouth series, Pastor Tim Riddick challenges us to stop waiting for a smarter, cleaner, more confident version of ourselves before telling people about Jesus. Paul didn’t enter Corinth hiding his weakness or performing for the crowd. He came “in weakness and in fear and much trembling,” determined to proclaim Christ crucified so that their faith would rest on God’s power—not human wisdom (1 Corinthians 2:1–5).
Your questions don’t disqualify you. Your messy testimony doesn’t silence you. God’s grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
You are not responsible for saving anyone; that belongs to Jesus. Your responsibility is to go, open your mouth, and trust the Holy Spirit with the words (Luke 21:14–15).
God is not waiting for you to feel ready. He is calling you to go as you are.

#58 Let It Go
Show notes
Some sermons are theory. This one cost something.
In this episode of Subtext, Pastor Tim gets unusually personal sharing about the shelf he’d been walking past for twenty-five years. A name he never called. A wound he convinced himself he’d dealt with because he’d survived it. And what happened when he finally picked up the phone before he finished writing a sermon about forgiveness.
We’re in Matthew 6 — the Lord’s Prayer — and Jesus puts forgiveness in the same breath as daily bread. Not as an occasional spiritual exercise. As a rhythm. As essential as eating. And in Matthew 6:14, he says something that’s hard to sit with: the way you hold forgiveness from others directly affects how you receive it yourself.
This episode is for anyone carrying a name. A face. A season. A wrong that was real and undeserved and that you’ve been dragging behind you longer than you should have to.
Because God forgave you, you can forgive them.

#57 Empty To Be Filled
Show notes
What are you using to manage your soul?
In Episode 57 of Subtext, Pastor Tim opens up the spiritual discipline of prayer and fasting — not as a religious performance, not as a guilt trip, but as the practice that creates the kind of space in your life that God actually fills. We’re going to Ezra 8, Luke 4, and Matthew 6 — and we’re going to talk about why Jesus fasted before his entire public ministry, what fasting actually does to your soul, and why comfort might be the most spiritually dangerous thing our city offers us.
This is week four of the Spiritual Disciplines series.

#56 Stop Snacking
Show notes
You’ll spend four hours researching something you enjoy without even noticing.
So why is five minutes in the Bible so hard?
In Episode 56 of Subtext, Pastor Tim opens the spiritual discipline of studying God’s Word, not reading it at a glance, not consuming Bible content from someone else’s study, but actually going in. We’re going to Hebrews 4, 2 Timothy 2, and Joshua 1 and we’re going to talk about what it means to rightly handle the Word, what it means to meditate on it the way the ancient Hebrews meant, and why the spiritual dryness so many of us feel might be a Word problem more than anything else.

#55 Where The Light Is
Show notes
What are you hiding?
In Episode 55 of Subtext, Pastor Tim opens up the spiritual discipline of confession — not as a mechanism for guilt, but as the practice that unlocks the healing most of us are desperate for and too afraid to access. We’re going to Proverbs 28, 1 John 1, and James 5 — and we’re going to talk honestly about why unconfessed sin doesn’t stay the same size, what it actually costs us to keep managing instead of confessing, and why the right person hearing the worst about you and staying is one of the closest pictures of the gospel that exists.

#54 The Noise You're Hiding In
Show notes
When’s the last time you were actually quiet?
Not asleep. Not scrolling. Not podcasting through the commute. Actually, intentionally, uncomfortably still.
In Episode 54 of Subtext, Pastor Tim opens a five-week series on spiritual disciplines with the one that might be the most countercultural practice in St. Pete right now: silence and solitude. We’re going to Ecclesiastes, Psalm 46, and Psalm 62 and we’re going to find out why the Hebrew word for “be still” means something closer to let go than most of us realized. And why waiting on God in silence isn’t passive at all — it’s the most active posture of the soul.
This is episode one of five in the Disciplines series.

#53 Busy Doing Nothing
Show notes
What if you’ve been really busy doing nothing?
In Episode 53, Pastor Tim opens Romans 15, where Paul’s letter to Rome stops being about doctrine and starts being about direction. What is your life actually for? Paul had ambition, enormous ambition, but he aimed it somewhere most of us would never point it. Away from platforms and audiences and toward the people nobody was reaching yet.
In a city obsessed with image, vibe, and experience, this episode asks the uncomfortable question: Are you building a brand, or are you building a life?
And it points toward something better than both.

#52 Win The Argument, Lose The Person
Show notes
You can be right. And still lose your brother.
In Episode 52, Pastor Tim opens Romans 14 Paul’s urgent, uncomfortable word to a church that was letting secondary disagreements eat through the fabric of real community. We’re talking about theological contempt, the weaponization of correctness, what it actually means to hold conviction and carry people at the same time, and why the kingdom of God is not a matter of winning.
If you’ve ever been pushed out for asking questions, or if you’ve been the one doing the pushing, this episode is for you.

#51 Awake In The Empire
Show notes
We’re back. And we didn’t come back quiet.
In Episode 51, Pastor Tim opens Romans 13, one of the most politically charged, historically misread, and spiritually uncomfortable chapters in the New Testament. If you’ve ever felt caught between blind loyalty to authority and total resistance to it, this episode is for you. We’re talking about outrage culture, what Paul was actually saying to a church living under Rome, and why the gospel’s answer to civic life isn’t a hot take — it’s love.

#50 Stop Running. Start Responding
Show notes
Hey, I had the privilege of teaching last Sunday and if you missed it here is my message!
In this message, Pastor Tim Riddick challenges us to examine where we may be running from what God has made personal. God uses ordinary people to deliver His invitation of redemption. And how we respond doesn’t just affect us—it shapes outcomes for others.Avoidance feels safe. But it’s still running.✨ Key Points:1. God makes His invitation personal through us.2. The “case of the someones” is spiritual deflection.3. Distraction doesn’t remove responsibility.4. Availability matters more than gifting.5. Your response determines the outcome.📖 Scripture Referenced:• Jonah 1:1–6• Isaiah 6:8• Matthew 22:9• Matthew 28:19–20

#49 New Rhythms
Show notes
In this episode of Subtext, Tim Riddick gets honest about the silent liturgy we all live by the scroll before our feet hit the floor, the dopamine hit at every red light, the phantom buzz that tricks us into thinking we’re needed when we’re actually just numb.
This ain’t just about your phone. It’s about your formation. Because whether you know it or not, you already have a rhythm.
And that rhythm is shaping your soul.
So let’s talk about it:
* Why Jesus didn’t let the crowd set His pace
* Why rest isn’t something you earn. It’s something you need
* How hustle culture is discipling us more than the Holy Spirit
* And why building a new rhythm might just save your joy
We dive into Matthew 11, Mark 1, and Psalm 46, not with guilt, but with grace. Not to shame you, but to remind you there’s another way.
A quieter way.
A rooted way.
A Kingdom way.
So if you’re tired of running on empty, if your soul is noisy even when the room is quiet, this one’s for you. Jesus offers you a better rhythm. Not the kind that breaks you, but the kind that builds you.

#47 The Reset That Actually Works
Show notes
New year, new you, right?
Wrong.
Look, I love a fresh start as much as the next person. But can we talk about why every January feels like Groundhog Day? Same resolutions. Same energy for two weeks. Same guilt by February.
Maybe the problem isn’t your willpower. Maybe it’s that you’re trying to change the wrong way.
This week we’re getting honest about why our resolutions fail, what God actually says about transformation, and why you can’t behavior-modify your way into becoming who you want to be.
Spoiler: Jesus didn’t come to give you a better to-do list. He came to give you a new heart.
If you’re tired of the cycle—promise, fail, shame, repeat—this one’s for you.
Let’s talk about the reset that actually works.

#46 Love Came For You
Show notes
Some of us hear “God loves you” and low-key flinch, because that same word love has been used to control us, leave us, or play us. In this Advent episode, we’re not talking about the kind of love that ghosts you when you’re no longer useful. We’re talking about a God who moves toward you first.
In Week Four, “Love Came Looking for You,” Pastor Tim unpacks 1 John 4 and Romans 5 to show that Advent isn’t humanity climbing up to God—it’s God stepping down into the mess, into the manger, into St. Pete, into your real life. This episode is for the ones who feel unlovable and the ones who are actually doing fine but quietly living like they still have to earn God’s approval.
If you need to be reminded that you are fully known, fully seen, and still fully loved—this one’s for you.

#45 Hometown Date Energy: Should You Bring Them Home?
Show notes
Christmas is coming… which means the tree is going up, the group chats are popping, and your auntie is loading the question she asks every year like it’s tradition: “So… are you seeing anyone?”
In this episode of Subtext, Pastor Tim walks through what happens when dating meets the holidays—when “just vibing” starts feeling like hometown date energy. With Scripture as our compass (1 Cor. 6:18, Prov. 4:23, James 1:5, 1 Thess. 5:22), we unpack five questions to ask before you bring your boyfriend or girlfriend home: boundaries, clarity, motives, community, and guarding your heart.
Because love without wisdom is just vibes with a crash-landing and Jesus cares too much about your joy to let you drift into damage. Whether you’re single, dating, or somewhere in between, this one is for you.

#44 Joy That Doesn't Make Sense
Show notes
Some of us are limping into December, wondering how we’re supposed to sing about joy when this year has felt like loss, anxiety, or just straight survival mode. Others of us are actually… good. We like our job, we like our people, we’re low-key excited about the holidays. But whether you’re barely hanging on or genuinely thriving, this Advent episode is for you.
In Week Three of our Advent series, Pastor Tim unpacks what the Bible means by “good news of great joy”—a joy that isn’t fragile like a mood, but rooted in a Savior who stepped into a broken world on purpose. We’ll talk about the difference between happiness and joy, why joy is for the hurting and the happy, and how to practice a joy that doesn’t depend on your season going according to your script.
If you’ve ever felt guilty for not being okay or guilty for actually being okay this conversation will help you breathe. Jesus doesn’t just offer a holiday vibe; He offers a joy no one can take away.

#43 Peace In The Chaos
Show notes
December says “be merry,” but your mind is loud, your group chat is messy, and your bank account is stressed. In this Advent Week Two episode, “Peace In The Chaos,” Pastor Tim talks honestly about the kind of peace Jesus brings—a peace that doesn’t wait for your situation to calm down, but steps into the storm with you.
Walking through Luke 2 and Philippians 4, we unpack why heaven announced Jesus as the Prince of Peace, how biblical peace is more than good vibes, and what it looks like to practice peace in a city that never really slows down. You’ll get three simple rhythms to help your soul breathe this week: creating a “peace pause,” setting boundaries that protect your mental health, and inviting trusted people into your chaos.
If your December feels more like a mental hurricane than a Hallmark movie, this episode is for you. Jesus doesn’t promise a life with no storms but He does promise to sit in the boat with you.

#42 Why Am I Still Single?
Show notes
In this episode, we’re pulling back the curtain on what Scripture actually says about singleness.
Not as a punishment.
Not as a consolation prize.
But as a gift with purpose.
We talk about:
* Why singleness is not the spiritual waiting room for marriage
* How God may be delaying what you want to give you what you need
* Why the soulmate myth sounds romantic but can actually wreck your relationships
* What it means to be whole in Christ before you’re one with someone else
* How we glorify freedom while fearing commitment — and how Jesus calls us into something better
If you’re single, dating, or deep in a situationship you can’t define, this one’s for you.
Because the love you’re looking for?
It already found you.
And the One who found you isn’t waiting for you to get a ring —
He’s just waiting for you to come home.
