Three matches, one league, one cup, and one completely random. On this episode of Toffee Time Machine, John takes Dave P back to the golden era of Everton FC, 1984–85. 🏆 The Cup: Everton v Bayern Munich, 1985. The Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final many Blues still call Goodison’s greatest night. One down to Bayern, the Old Lady roaring, and Howard Kendall’s side came back to win 3–1 and book a place in the final in Rotterdam. 🔵 The League: Everton v QPR, 1985. The afternoon the title came home to Goodison Park. We relive the match that confirmed Everton as champions of England. 🎲 The Random: Mark Higgins Testimonial, 16 December 1984. Merseyside 7–6 Manchester. Everton and Liverpool players on the same side at Goodison: Southall, Ratcliffe, Reid and Sharp alongside Rush, Neal, Whelan and Mølby, against a Manchester XI featuring Mark Hughes. About 16,000 fans turned out, reportedly more than the first-team league game the day before. We also tell the story of Mark Higgins, the former Everton captain whose career seemed over at 26 with a pelvic injury, just before the club’s greatest success. Then came his remarkable comeback with Manchester United, Bury and Stoke. Strap in, set the dial, and let’s go back in time to when Everton conquered all.

Matt, Paul, Liam, and Ed are at The Denbigh Castle to pick through Everton's 3-1 win over Newcastle in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup. About as routine a game as it gets, but we all felt nerves at 3-1, didn't we?!

With Matt struggling to articulate his feelings after Saturday, Mick and Dave P are on hand to help.

We reflect on the widespread sense of frustration after the loss at Arsenal, before Mick delivers a scathing assessment of the off-the-pitch decisions that have led the Blues to this point?

Then we look at Newcastle. Will it even matter depending on what comes out of Wednesday's draw?

Borneo, Bridewell, Byline - what's the difference?

Matt and Paddy reflect on the loss to Arsenal and the current holding pattern that seems to have been put in place by the ownership uncertainty.

Do Everton have to be this stagnant? Do we have a right to be frustrated at another limp performance at a superior side?

We also check in with the latest goings on at Goodison Park. Everton Women have improved their form there lately, but what does the future hold for the Old Lady?

Another 2-0 defeat, another afternoon of watching Arsenal take corners. On this week’s Blue Monday, we pick apart the Emirates loss and ask how Everton got stuck in this rut: two league wins since March, owners heading for the exit, and some of our brightest young players stuck on the bench. Is there any way out of this malaise, or should we accept we're just mid-table at best?

Who needs Wayne Rooney, when we've got Marcus Bent?
Obviously an inferior version of the legendary original, but we didn't have Horne or Cantona for very long in the Good Times Era.
It's the one you've all been asking us about, so dive in. So much happened between July and December 2024 that it's a miracle we kept this to 183 minutes.

Ed McCosh climbs aboard the Toffee Time Machine with Dave P to discuss three matches that, between them, capture almost everything it means to follow Everton.

For his league pick, Ed heads back to a bank holiday afternoon when the Blues did their work early and the result was settled by the time most fans had got up for their half-time pint. In the cup, he takes us to a European night when Everton stood firm to secure a memorable win. His wildcard is one every Evertonian will feel - a match that looked lost at the break, followed by a second half that turned despair into delirium.

Ed also explains what each game meant to him, where he was, and why these memories have outlasted everything that came after. Expect tension, nostalgia, and a reminder that with Everton, it’s never over until it’s over.

Strap in, set the dial, and let’s go back in time.

Adam and Patric join Matt to look back at a tough day for the Blues on Saturday.

Did the starting XI set the tone for a negative display, at the start of both halves of the game? Will Moyes ever change his approach to substitutions? And what are the worst debuts in recent Everton history?

The Invincibles dream is over. Everton lost for the first time this season at home to Chelsea on Saturday. But had it been coming for a few weeks now?

We look at David Moyes’ substitutions after the Christian Norgaard change backfired spectacularly on in the 2-0 defeat. Is he really bad at them? And is he making enough of them?

Then it’s a look at Brighton, who have been the stars of the Premier League this season. Could Everton really ever implement that kind of model? How far away are the Blues from the Premier League’s most modern outfits?

Finally, Paddy provides and update on Josh Wander, who plead guilty to charges of fraud last week.

We look at the Premier League as a whole and whether the Blues can capitalise on a number of sides being out-of-sorts.

Then it’s on to Hull. Are there still questions over Barry and Dewsbury-Hall despite their goals? And where do we see the current ownership situation leading, with The Friedkin Group keen to cash in on the club?
