  1. Why This Special Forces Cast Opened Up Like Never Before

    Season 19, Episode 2

    Show notes

Candace sits down with Collin Gosselin, her Special Forces Season 5 castmate, who was on TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 from age three to 11. He describes what he calls “scripted happiness:” crews bringing out puppies or ice cream, then taking them away once filming stopped. He remembers telling his mom at eight or nine that he didn’t want to do it anymore, and he credits Colleen, his father’s partner for about eight years, as the mother figure he needed.

After joining the Marines, Collin was about a week and a half from the final boot camp test when he was told he’d be kicked out over mental health diagnoses he traces to an Instagram post from his mom. He paid for a full psychological evaluation that came back clean, and talks about leaning on prayer through it.

Candace shares how her parents kept acting her choice, and they discuss Collin’s memoir and his push to protect kids on reality TV and social media. They close with Vivian’s listener question about communicating with siblings who all have different communication styles.

Collin’s memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, is available now. Watch Collin and Candace on Special Forces Season 5, with new episodes Thursdays at 6:00 Pacific, 9:00 PM Eastern on Fox and past episodes on Hulu.

  2. He “Felt Empty” & THIS Unexpected Invite Changed Everything...

    Season 19, Episode 1

    Show notes

What does it take to walk into church for the first time at 45… alone?

Retired NBA forward and 2017 champion Matt Barnes, who bunked three spots from Candace on Special Forces, sits down with her to talk about the childhood that shaped him and the faith that found him.

Matt grew up in the ’80s around drugs and violence, then moved from San Jose to Sacramento at eight and ran into racism for the first time. As a high school senior, he defended his little sister, was suspended, and saw his family threatened badly enough that they had to move. He also talks about losing his mom, his “rock,” 26 days after her cancer diagnosis.

After his infidelity ended his relationship with Anansa early in 2025, Matt dug up an old invitation from a friend and showed up at church by himself, hiding in the back row. A few months later he invited Anansa to come with him, and on New Year’s Eve they married. He and Candace also talk about raising seven kids with love instead of tough love, and why he joined Special Forces to test his mind.

  3. Trailer: After the Jungle Trailer

    Season 19

    Show notes

What would it take for you to crawl through a jungle, jump off a cliff, and keep going the next morning?

Earlier this year, Candace flew to Malaysia to film Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, which she calls the hardest thing she has ever done, physically, mentally, and spiritually. In Season 19, her castmates join her to talk about what it took to get through the jungle and a taste of what military veterans go through.

Guests include NBA champion Matt Barnes, Olympic figure skater Maxim Naumov, Collin Gosselin, world champion boxer Alycia Baumgardner, and Baywatch star David Charvet, plus a surprise guest who shares how he came to faith after the hardest season of his life. In the preview, Candace tells Maxim that being paired with someone who shares her son’s name and age felt like a God wink, and she describes Matt as gentle and kind.

The cast also talks about coming home to real toilets, air conditioning, and no bugs. One castmate remembers seeing Candace reading her Bible. And the conversation returns to something the jungle made plain: fame and money don’t make us happy, but helping others and watching them change does.

Season 19 launches Tuesday, October 27th. Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test season five is on FOX and Hulu. Sign up at candace.com for email updates so you don’t miss a conversation.

  4. Your Problems Might Be A Gift

    Season 18, Episode 6

    Show notes

What if the problems you are praying your way through are actually a gift?

In the final episode of her podcast series with Annie F. Downs, Candace and Annie land on that question after Annie describes an afternoon alone at the Met. Standing before a 200-year-old portrait of three friends, she realized the men in it no longer get to worry, decide, or hope, and that every hard thing still ahead of her is something only the living get to carry.

From there they talk about gratitude that doesn’t deny the hard things in life. Annie holds real sadness, a painful change at one of the companies she runs, in the same hand as something small and good like a golden kiwi or a Sumo orange. She and Candace also get honest about choosing a new season without a clear sign from God, and Annie's plan to close her company for a three-month Sabbath in 2027.

Annie shares the two-degree change she learned in counseling, the small decisions that redirect a life over time. Candace and Annie also answer listener questions from Coley on staying happy, Callie on healthy friendships, and Christina on staying motivated through a hard winter.

Annie's book Remember God and her Advent study for single women go even deeper on much of what they talk about here.

  5. When You’ve Done Everything and You’re Still Waiting

    Season 18, Episode 5

    Show notes

What do you do when you’ve prayed, worked, asked, and knocked, and the door still hasn’t opened?

Candace sits down with Annie F. Downs for one of their last conversations of the season, built around the part of Annie’s new book that she kept bumping into as she wrote it: you can do everything right, and there are still no promises for how your life will turn out. Candace knows the temptation to always be in control, the hope that A plus B will equal C, and the feeling of quiet disappointment when it doesn’t. Together they ask what it looks like to keep living a full life while you wait.

Annie talks about her years of waiting to be married before she married JW at 44, the counseling, the dating coaches, the matchmaker, and the belief that a little more money would finally fix it.

Candace shares more stories about her own years at home with her kids, a season she was fully committed to even as other dreams waited, and the growth in her relationship with God that prepared her to return to work with different eyes. They keep coming back to the same question: can you find fulfillment in what you have while you wait for what you want, and can you be grateful for the basket you’re holding while wishing there were more fruit in it? Annie shares the picture of a wrung-out washcloth that she wrote about in “Stay Tuned,” her advent devotional for single women.

Candace and Annie also answer several listener questions: from a young mom looking for real friendship, from a girl who wonders if her crush on a guy is crowding out her focus on God, from a new believer married to a husband who doesn’t share her faith, and from a listener asking how to find a friend who won’t be judgmental.

  6. The Truth About Unanswered Prayers

    Season 18, Episode 4

    Show notes

What do you do when you’ve poured your heart out in prayer, and the door still hasn’t opened?

Candace and Annie F. Downs turn to the part of Annie’s book that Annie kept bumping into while writing it: you can do everything right and still not get what you hoped for when you want it.

Annie talks about the counseling, the dating coaches, the matchmaker, and the belief that more money or a different city would change things. She met her husband, JW, at 44, and says she wouldn’t trade the wait now.

Candace looks back on the years she stayed home with her kids, a season she says grew her faith and shaped how she sees her work today. Together they come back to one question: can we be grateful for the basket we’re holding while still wishing there was more fruit in it? Annie shares a wrung-out washcloth picture and the words she believes God gave her: this is only a season!

Listener questions cover finding friends as a 21-year-old mom, a crush that crowds out time with God, a marriage where only one spouse believes, and finding a friend who won’t judge.

Annie’s free downloadable discovery quiz from Don’t Let That Hold You Back is at candace.com, where you can also sign up for email updates. You can join the Together community at candace.com/together for private podcast discussion, monthly challenges, and encouragement from other listeners.

  7. Do You Smell Like Jesus?

    Season 18, Episode 3

    Show notes

Have you ever met someone who just oozed peace?

The kind of person who you felt instantly safe with, even though you didn’t know them? What would it be like if that’s how people described you? Candace and Annie talk through what it means to be the aroma of Christ everywhere you go, including a moment at a Dairy Queen, and what courage looks like when it shows up in your everyday life rather than one dramatic moment.

They open with a listener question about emotional eating, and Candace shares what her counselor taught her about naming why she reaches for food and refusing to keep secrets around it, and this episode closes with a listener question from Janice about holding onto faith through repeated hard seasons.

  8. Fall in Love With the Life You Have

    Season 18, Episode 2

    Show notes

Have you ever tried to get something back to how it used to be, but discovered that God had something different in mind?

Candace and Annie continue Season 18 with a deep dive based on Annie’s new book “Don't Let That Hold You Back.”

Annie walks through the difference between something being stolen, something being killed, and something being destroyed, and what it looks like to ask God to restore each one. Candace opens up deeply about the season a few years ago when her own character was attacked and destroyed unfairly, and what it took to rebuild it with the people around her.

They also answer two listener questions: what it’s like to stay content in singleness, and how one listener is processing grief after losing her husband. Annie shares how she learned to fall in love with the life she had while she waited for marriage, and what it means to live in your “not yet” with hope.

  9. What’s Really Holding You Back?

    Season 18, Episode 1

    Show notes

Have you ever noticed how differently your life feels when your identity is tied to your work instead of to God?

Candace opens Season 18 with her friend Annie F. Downs, best-selling author and host of the podcast That Sounds Fun, talking through her new book, Don't Let That Hold You Back.

Annie shares the story behind her first book, the string of rejections that led her to step away from writing for two years, and what she learned about separating her identity from her career. She and Candace walk through the difference between what has been stolen, killed, and destroyed in a person's life, a distinction Annie draws from the writer of John's account of the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. They talk honestly about fear, including the whispers of fear neither of them has ever fully outrun.

Candace also opens up about a business meltdown and the call she made to Annie in the middle of it. The episode closes with two listener questions: how to stop being afraid of hearing God's voice, and what each of them would do differently if they could go back.

You can find a free quiz from Annie's book at candace.com, where you can also sign up for email and text updates and ask questions for future episodes. Join the Together community at candace.com/together for Bible studies and a prayer chain.

  10. Breaking Free From Body Comparison

    Season 17, Episode 6

    Show notes

Have you ever caught yourself talking to your own body like it’s your enemy instead of your friend?

In this Greatest Hits episode, Candace revisits her Season 9 conversations with her daughter, Natasha, and Allie Schnacky from the series Girls Under Pressure. Together, they talk honestly about the pressures young women face today, starting with dating: the family rule that kept Allie from dating until she was 18, the sports car analogy her dad used to motivate her, and why Natasha never wanted to call someone her boyfriend until she saw a real future with him.

From there, the conversation turns to body image—the comparisons both women trace back to elementary school, the way beauty standards keep shifting, and why moving your body is so important for your mind. Candace shares a dream she had while working through some hard things in therapy and gets vulnerable about the way she has treated her body throughout her career.

Candace also answers a new listener question from Susan, who asks about nutrition for someone in her 50s who already works out and leads a pretty active lifestyle.

  11. What Do You Do When Life Doesn’t Go The Way You Planned

    Season 17, Episode 5

    Show notes

Have you ever wanted something so badly that losing it felt like losing yourself?

This month Candace is sharing her Greatest Hits, and this week she revisits her Season 8 conversations with Priscilla Shirer.

Priscilla remembers the college relationship that ended and left her crying on the side of the road, and what she felt God impress on her there: he does not want you, but you want him this badly, so why won't you just be with me?

Candace opens up about the year Full House ended, meeting Val at 18, and learning who she was apart from her career. They talk about Anne Graham Lotz, who crossed a hotel lobby to guide a 23-year-old Priscilla to find her purpose.

From there the conversation moves to desire: why God wants more for us then just obedienace, and how Priscilla prayed for years for her own appetite for God to grow. Candace shares praying the same way over motherhood. At the end, she answers a new listener question from a wife who feels like a roommate and is tired of carrying the spiritual weight in her marriage.

  12. Show Up – Your Kids Are Watching

    Season 17, Episode 4

    Show notes

In this Greatest Hits episode, Candace revisits her Season 7 parenting conversations with Dr. Josh and Christi Straub, joined by her husband, Val, and her son, Max.

Val and Candace talk about the years of showing up: sitting in a cold hockey rink, keeping phones out of the car and off the table, and staying present when a teenager says something that stings. The days are long, they admit, but the years are short—and the time you invest is what your kids carry with them long after the games are over.

Max also opens up about a harder question: finding his purpose. After building his life around hockey, he began questioning who he was without it. Candace and Josh walk through identity, a smoothie shop conversation that shifted something in him, and a simple prayer Josh returns to when he needs to hear from God.

A new listener question closes the episode from a 36-year-old wondering whether she’s ready to become a mom.

This month, Candace is revisiting some of her favorite conversations. In this Season 6 episode with Jennie Allen, they explore what we actually do with our emotions—and why we don’t have to hide the hard ones.

Candace opens up about growing up on set, where she learned to cry on cue and then turn on a smile just as quickly. Over time, that “suck it up and put the tears back” mentality followed her into real life.

Jennie explains the three ways many of us respond to difficult emotions: we control them, cope with them, or conceal them. Together, she and Candace talk about grief, our tendency to rush through pain, and the comfort of knowing that God doesn’t pull away when we bring Him our sadness, anger, or disappointment. Candace also shares why she tries to turn to God first, and the trusted people she leans on when life feels especially heavy.

Candace speaks honestly about her own seasons of depression, including times when she couldn’t get out of bed and the shame that told her she should be stronger. Jennie points to the brokenness that entered the world in Genesis and reminds us that even Jesus wept with Mary before raising Lazarus.

Plus, a listener named Dana asks how to begin moving forward when her body feels completely drained.

  14. CCB Podcast Greatest Hits: Grit Don't Quit

    Season 17, Episode 2

    Show notes

Candace has a mom confession: there were days she wanted to quit. Not to stop loving her kids, but to run back and hide in the work where someone actually said, “Good job,” because diapers, meals, and homeschooling rarely come with applause.

Bianca Juarez Olthoff can relate, and hopefully you can too. Wanting to quit is normal. The question is what we do next. As Val once told Candace, “You can quit. It’s just not going to be today!”

In this greatest hits episode, Bianca explains neuroplasticity through the picture of a path worn across a front lawn, the negativity bias that makes hard words stick like Velcro, and the childhood taunt she still hears in dressing rooms. Candace shares how a television show quietly reopened an old eating disorder script and how she recognized it and turned it off.

This episode replay is about wholeness: heart, mind, soul, and body as the four legs of one table, along with the honest work of knowing your value. Bianca answers a listener’s question about humility, and Candace answers a new question from River, 18, about finding joy in a season that doesn’t feel joyful.

  15. CCB Podcast Greatest Hits: Looking for God!

    Season 1, Episode 17

    Show notes

What happens when you read the whole Bible and walk away not liking God?

Candace opens Season 17, the first of six “greatest hits” episodes, with her friend Tara-Leigh Cobble from the very first season of the show. This special recap episode closes with a new question from a listener named Kirby, who is grieving the loss of her dog, Bear.

Tara-Leigh shares the moment she finished reading Scripture cover to cover while in full-time ministry and realized she did not like the God she had just read about. Then a pastor friend gave her one piece of advice: Read it again, and this time, stop looking for yourself and start looking for God.

Along the way, they share how they each came to faith—Candace at twelve and Tara-Leigh at four—and dig into who God actually is. Tara-Leigh unpacks the difference between God the Creator and God the Father, and why the name He chose for Himself is the relational one. He was Father before He was Creator.

They also talk about what it means to be a child of God and why His “no” is often His kindest answer.

For email updates and to submit a question for a future episode, visit candace.com. All of Season 1 with Tara-Leigh is available wherever you listen to podcasts and on YouTube!

  16. Human Beings, Not Human Doings

    Season 16, Episode 6

    Show notes

Have you ever gotten close to something you had been chasing, only to lose it in a single moment?

Jason Jackson Jr. is back with Candace to wrap up this season. He shares the story of the night he tore his ACL just two plays into the game that was supposed to move him up to varsity. What felt like the end of a dream became a season on the sidelines.

Candace and Jason talk about facing new technology without fear and why he maintains clear boundaries around AI, including doing his own writing, studying and wrestling with Scripture. They also discuss popularity and what it costs a generation willing to trade almost anything for a few seconds of being seen.

They explore what real friendship looks like when life falls apart and how quickly you discover who your people are. Jason also answers listener questions, including one from an 18-year-old asking whether she can earn God’s love. As Jason says, “God made us human beings, not human doings.”

  17. What Keeps You Stuck?

    Season 16, Episode 5

    Show notes

Have you ever stayed somewhere too long? A habit you meant to break, a grudge you meant to set down, a version of yourself you meant to leave behind?

Candace sits down with Jason Jackson Jr. for the fifth conversation of the season, and it opens with the story that changed his life: hearing Sadie Robertson tell the parable of the prodigal son on a college campus in 2019, right after he had walked through something that felt exactly like it.

Jason opens up about the sibling rivalry that once had him dipping his fries in mustard just to be different from his brother—and how that same pride has shown up later in life. Pride keeps us in the pit, he says, and repentance is the only way out. He and Candace talk about how easy it is to drift, how much effort it takes to stay anchored, and why turning around is always the hardest first step.

The listener questions this week reach across seasons of life. Ronnie wants to build a Bible-reading habit and doesn’t know where to start. Georgia is tired of being hurt by friends and wonders whether people are naturally good. Martha asks how to let her adult children make their own decisions. How will Candace and Jason answer each one?

  18. I Will Die Before God Is Proved A Liar

    Season 16, Episode 4

    Show notes

Have you ever done everything you believed God asked of you and still heard nothing back?

That’s where Jason Jackson Jr. sat in early 2025, pulling in millions of views on his content and still unable to cover

rent or keep food in the fridge. This week Candace and Jason talk about the weight of waiting, and what it takes to

keep going when the answer is not coming on your timeline.

Jason walks through the fasting he committed to and the moment when everything shifted. He and Candace talk

about why how you see yourself decides how long you stay in the wilderness, and why your current situation is not

    your final conclusion.

They also answer three listener questions:

Courtney is learning to sit in church beside a friend who walked away.

Lily, who is 18, is fighting the lies of perfectionism and performance.

Catherine wants to know how to find friends who keep her honest. Candace reminds Lily that God has never asked

any of us to be perfect, only to come as we are!

  19. How far has God had carried you?

    Season 16, Episode 3

    Show notes

Have you ever had a moment that showed you exactly how far God had carried you?

Jason Jackson Jr. is back with Candace this week, and he tells the story of a season when he had eight quarters to his name, counting them out at a grocery checkout for the cheapest pack of bologna on the shelf.

Jason talks about staying humble by remembering on purpose. He points to Deuteronomy 8 and the way God keeps telling His people not to forget Him once the blessing comes. He shares the practices that keep him grounded: journaling the hard moments, still making a pallet on the floor after his biggest nights, eating a struggle meal to remember when that was the only food in the house. He also tells Candace about tithing his last ten dollars and what showed up ten days later.

Candace and Jason sit with the story of the ten lepers and how quickly gratitude fades once a miracle becomes familiar. Two listeners write in as well: Reagan, 14, wants to hold onto her morning time in the Bible Recap, and Hannah is trying to see God clearly again after spiritual abuse.

  20. What If My Decision Feels Really Hard to Make?

    Season 16, Episode 2

    Show notes

Have you ever stood at a crossroads where you knew what God was calling you to, but everything in you wanted to retreat to the safer, more comfortable path?

Candace and Jason Jackson Jr. open the episode answering a listener question from Ashley, a newer Christian working her way through the Bible. Jason describes how he started reading from the perspective of the sinner rather than the savior, putting himself in the shoes of the people Jesus is speaking to instead of in Jesus' shoes. That way, he says, the message comes through and not just the miracle.

The episode picks up Jason's story where last week left off. From being woken up at 9 years old to provide a clean drug test for family members, to choosing at 11 to move in with friends so his mom would have one less mouth to feed, to walking away from an NFL career at 21 years old, Jason traces a path shaped by one conviction: a job is what you get paid to do, and work is what you were created to do. Ministry, he says, is work.

Jason then talks about the Kidron Valley, the Valley of Decisions, the space between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives where Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He talks through what it means to be caught between peace and pressure, and why he believes the response in that valley is prayer.

The episode also includes a second listener question from Gracie, who just turned 18 and asks for one piece of advice as a new adult. Jason tells her to serve as many people as she can, and Candace encourages her to stay honest, with herself, with others, and with God.
