The From Scratch Podcast | Brand and Marketing Strategy for Women Entrepreneurs

Business, Marketing

Everyone will teach you how to get attention. Almost nobody talks about what happens next.

The From Scratch Podcast is about the short moment when a woman who has never heard of your brand decides whether she can relax around it. That moment is where the sale is won or lost, and unlike reach or reputation, it's available to you no matter how small you are.

Host Kary Perry is a brand and growth strategist for founder-led women. From Scratch has never meant starting over. It means doing it your way instead of the way everyone else is doing it, and she learned it seven years ago after a launch that worked and still left her crying on the bathroom floor.

Episodes cover brand positioning, content strategy, offers and pricing, audience growth, and how small brands sell without pressure. Every week: unfiltered stories, real strategy, and one thing you can go decide because of it.

  1. 038. From One to Only: How to Become Her Only Choice (Without Being the Cheapest)

    Show notes

She found you, she binged your page, she booked the call. Then she said she wants to "look at a few other options first."

It's not your price. It's not your page. It's that you sold her something she could compare.

In this episode, Kary shares the story of hiring a brand photographer the same day she found her on Instagram, without shopping around once. On paper she needed photos and videos for a rebrand. What she actually wanted was someone who saw the real human behind her brand. That gap is where most founders lose the sale.

    You'll learn:

    • Why people decide with emotion and use logic to explain it afterward
    • How leading with pain points puts you in a lineup and flips her into comparison mode
    • How one fitness coach went from selling weight loss to selling identity, started attracting the exact women she wanted, and made her first five figure month
    • Why polished gets admired but human gets hired
    • Four prescriptive moves: the Desire Ladder, the Fix to Feeling Swap, the Only You Detail, and the One Woman Brief

Pain points make her compare. Desires make you the only choice.

  2. 037. From Counting to Connecting: Why Small Accounts Have the Advantage

    Show notes

Your small account isn't what's holding you back. It's your unfair advantage. You just haven't been using it.

If you've ever sat on someone else's profile doing the math on how long it would take to catch up, this one's for you. Kary started over on Instagram from zero, and at 500 followers, women were in her DMs asking to buy from her before she even had anything to sell.

It wasn't the number. It was what she did with the 500.

In this episode, Kary breaks down why follower count is the loudest number on your profile and the least useful one, and why the women with the big accounts have lost something you still have: the ability to make every single person feel known.

    You'll learn:

    • Why comparing your follower count to someone else's is comparing a button to a button
    • How a client with just over 1,000 followers had a six figure launch
    • What it actually means to talk to one person in your content, not just your DMs
    • The difference between posting value and giving real help
    • Why letting people know you is what makes buying from you feel safe

Your Move this week: have five real conversations, write down her exact words, and write one post just for her.

  3. 036. From Maybe to Member: How to Get Your Audience to Say Yes Before You Ever Sell

    Show notes

f people love your content but go quiet the second you sell, you're probably not asking too much. You're asking too little.

In this episode, Kary tells the story of a CrossFit gym that got her to say yes six times before they ever asked for her credit card. An interest form. A conversation about her goals. One free class. A free week that felt like a real commitment. A debrief. And only then, the ask to join.

By the time they asked for the big yes, it didn't feel big. It felt like the next step.

That's the part most founders skip. They're great at attracting attention and focused on making the sale, but there's nothing in the middle. So the sale becomes the first time she's ever been asked to respond, and she freezes.

    You'll learn:

    • Why asking less in your content can make your sales quieter, not easier
    • What tiny yeses are, and how they train her to respond to you
    • Why nurture is where she actually makes her decision
    • How to build your own "free week": a commitment that costs her nothing

Your Move this week: find your missing middle, decide on your free week, and plan one small yes for every post.

  4. 035. From Turned Off to Tuned In: Why Your Content's Vibe Is Costing You Sales

    Show notes

She walked in wanting to buy. She walked out with nothing. And it had nothing to do with the offer.

In this episode, Kary tells the story of a Coach saleswoman who asked one question that sent her straight back out the door, and a server named Nancy who asked a different question and got her to order something she never would have picked on her own. Two people whose job was to make a sale. One wanted it more. The other actually got it.

The difference between them is the same thing deciding whether your content turns into sales: the vibe. What she feels in the first few seconds with your brand, before she reads a single word.

    You'll learn:

    • Why most women who find your content aren't ready for the counter yet, and what happens when your posts treat them like they are
    • The quiet ways a vibe goes wrong, even when you're never pushy
    • Why starting with her desire works better than pressing on her pain
    • What "feel, then guide" looks like in your content

Your Move this week: decide whether the vibe your content is giving matches the vibe you want her to feel.

  5. 034. From Guessing to Deciding: The Four Word Filter for Every Post

    Show notes

A full closet and nothing to wear. A folder full of saved outfits from Amazon creators. And even when I buy the thing, I still can't tell you if it's my style.

Turns out that's the exact same reason "what should I post today?" never gets easier.

In this episode, I tell you about the pair of ripped mom jeans that finally made it make sense, and how they led me to the simplest decision tool I know for content: the four word filter.

    You'll learn:

Why the inspo folder keeps you guessing instead of deciding

Why "I need to be more consistent" is the wrong diagnosis

How to find your four words using content you've already made

What makes a good filter word (and why "valuable" and "authentic" don't count)

How the filter helps you tell the difference between a post that missed and a post that just had a quiet day

Then tell me your four words. DM me on Instagram @karyperry. I genuinely want to see them.

  6. 033. From Forgettable to Magnetic: Why Playing It Safe Is Costing You

    Show notes

I read a four hundred page book and couldn't tell someone what it was about. Couldn't even remember the main character's name. But from a different book, years ago, I'll never forget one tiny detail: she had a gap between her teeth.

In this episode, we're talking about the quiet way content fails. Not the pushy post that grabs at people, but the polite, professional, perfectly pleasant brand that nobody remembers, and nobody ever tells.

We get into why so many small brands play it safe, why casting the widest net actually makes you harder to find, what it really means to take a stand (hint: it's not picking fights), and why a small business can't hide behind its brand and expect to build relationships.

Your move this week: decide whether your brand is magnetic or forgettable, with a simple test to tell the difference.

Topics: brand positioning, content strategy, founder led brands, brand voice, small business marketing, standing out on social media.

  7. 032. From "This is You" to "This is Me": The One Question to Ask Before You Post

    Show notes

    "And for you, ma'am?"

I was standing in my living room with a whiteboard menu I drew myself. Spaghetti, meat and cheese, chicken nuggets. The drawings were questionable. My two customers were sitting in a blanket fort, and they knew exactly what they wanted.

I'd been exhausted all day. But a few days earlier, a friend had said something that made me scream YES out loud: "Parenting is the ultimate service job."

She wasn't talking about me. She was just telling me about her own life. And I did the rest myself.

That's the difference between being told who you are and recognizing yourself. One makes you defend. The other makes you jump in.

In this episode, I'm breaking down why the most common lines in relatable content quietly push people away, and the one question I ask before I post anything so she gets to say "that's me" on her own.

    You'll learn:

    • Why "you're the woman who..." makes her check your work instead of relax
    • The sneaky caption ending that looks like an invitation but isn't
    • The one question to run on every post, and what it does and doesn't catch
    • Why telling on yourself works, and how to decide which parts of your life are open

Because she doesn't need you to tell her who she is.

She needs room to find herself in your story.

    Two notes.

I worked in "relatable content," "caption," and "post" naturally, since those are the words she's actually searching.

And one quick fix: last week you changed "a woman" to "someone" in your fixed intro. I'd missed that in the Ep 32 script, so I've updated it to match.

  8. 031. From Convincing to Ease: What a Kids Camp Counselor Taught Me About First Impressions

    Show notes

My daughter Noa was about to cry.

We were walking our girls into kids camp on vacation, and she was falling behind us. Head down. Fiddling with her clothes. That little whimper starting.

Then a camp counselor we had never met changed her entire mood in about sixty seconds.

No convincing. No "don't be nervous, it's going to be so fun." Just a compliment on her hat, a joke, and a sticker.

We chose that resort because of its reputation. Years of families, years of reviews. That reputation is what got us on the plane.

But it is not what let me relax at that door. One stranger did that, in under a minute.

Trust is accumulated. Safety is felt. And when you are a small brand, the moment is all you have.

In this episode, I'm breaking down why so much attraction content tries to convince someone to follow you, what that actually does to the person reading it, and what to do instead.

    You'll learn:

    • The difference between trust built over time and safety felt in seconds
    • Why convincing makes her brace instead of relax
    • Three simple this vs this examples you can apply to your content today
    • How to find your sticker, and why it won't look like anyone else's

Because she doesn't need to be convinced you're worth following.

She needs a reason to relax.

    Show notes

You know when you post something and think…
that was really good — and then it just disappears?

    No one repeats it.
    No one references it.
No one comes back to it.

That’s not a content quality problem.

    It’s a memorability problem.

In this episode, we’re talking about why your content isn’t sticking — and what actually makes people remember you. I’ll break down the psychology behind why some messages get processed and forgotten, while others imprint and build real brand recognition.

  11. 028. From New to Known: The Most Powerful Strategy In Marketing

    Show notes

Most entrepreneurs think their content needs to constantly say something new.

    A new hook.
    A new angle.
A new idea every time they show up.

But the brands that actually build trust and drive sales do the opposite. They repeat the same core ideas again and again.

In this episode, we’re talking about why repetition is one of the most powerful strategies in marketing and why constantly changing your message may be the real reason your content isn’t converting.

You’ll learn the psychology behind why repetition builds trust, why your audience isn’t getting bored as quickly as you think, and how the most recognizable brands use consistent messaging to become known for something.

I’ll also walk you through a step by step example of how to take one core message and turn it into a full week of strategic content without sounding repetitive or running out of ideas.

This episode is for you if:
    • You feel like you’re always scrambling for new content ideas
    • Your message keeps evolving but nothing seems to stick
    • You’re worried about sounding repetitive online
    • You want your audience to clearly understand what you’re known for

  12. 027. From Small to Standout: Why Your Brand Isn't Growing

    Show notes

Everyone thinks brand growth comes from better visuals.
A sharper logo. A prettier feed. A more polished website.

But if your brand feels stuck or smaller than you know it could be, the real issue usually isn’t design or posting frequency.

    It’s identity.

In this episode, we’re talking about why your brand will never grow beyond the identity you’re operating from. If you still see yourself as “figuring it out,” “not ready,” or “not the expert yet,” your messaging, positioning, and presence will quietly reflect that belief — and your audience will feel it.

I’m breaking down five identity mistakes that keep brands small and showing you how upgrading the way you see yourself as a leader instantly changes the way your brand shows up in the market.

This episode is for you if:
    • You feel like your brand should be growing faster
    • You keep tweaking your messaging but nothing seems to stick
    • You hesitate to fully claim your authority
    • You want a brand that feels clear, confident, and magnetic

Because the strongest brands don’t come from perfect visuals.

They come from leaders who are clear about who they are, what they stand for, and the transformation they provide.

And if you want help building a brand that people instantly understand and trust, join me inside the Magnetic Brand Workshop.

  13. 026. From Consistent to Scalable: What Your Business Desperately Needs to Scale Sales

    Show notes

You can be consistent, trusted, and deeply connected to your audience — and still feel like your sales are unpredictable.

In this episode, I’m breaking down five sales readiness checkpoints that reveal what’s actually keeping trust and visibility from turning into consistent income. Not from a hustle lens, but through sales psychology, buyer behavior, and systems that support real life.

We’ll talk about why presence alone eventually hits a ceiling, how interest quietly stalls without clear direction, and what needs to be in place for sales to happen without you constantly initiating them. This episode will help you assess whether your business is actually ready to scale — and where your next level of leverage lives.

This episode is for you if:
    • You’re showing up, but sales still feel unstable

  14. 025. From Always On to Always Selling: The System That Turns Presence Into Predictable Sales

    Show notes

If you’re showing up consistently, building real connection, and doing all the “right” things — but your income still feels unpredictable — this episode will put words to what’s really missing.

Because presence builds trust… but presence alone doesn’t create consistency.

In this episode, I’m continuing our sales series by unpacking the moment most entrepreneurs hit without realizing it: when showing up stops being enough. You’ll learn why relying on energy, motivation, and real-time selling eventually caps your growth — and what it actually takes to turn trust and connection into steady, repeatable sales.

We’ll talk about the shift from sales that depend on your availability to sales that work because the path is built. From trust that only exists in the moment to trust that carries people forward even when you’re not in the room. And from effort-based income to infrastructure-based growth that supports your life instead of consuming it.

This episode is for you if:
    • You’re present and consistent, but sales still feel unstable
    • You’re tired of feeling like your income depends on how “on” you are
    • You’ve built trust with your audience but don’t have a clear system behind it
    • You want growth that feels calm, reliable, and sustainable

By the end of this episode, you’ll understand why systems aren’t cold — they’re compassionate — and how building the right sales infrastructure is what finally gives you time, peace, and predictable income.

  15. 024. From Interest to Action: Why a Trust Funnel Converts Better Than A Sales Page

    Show notes

If you’ve ever had people read your sales page, watch your content, or even join your email list… and still not buy, this episode will change how you think about selling forever.

Because the truth is, most people aren’t saying no to your offer — they’re saying not yet. Not because they don’t want it, but because they don’t feel ready, safe, or certain enough to move forward.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why a trust funnel converts more powerfully than a sales page ever could — and how buying decisions are actually made long before someone clicks “enroll.” You’ll learn how trust is built over time through your content, messaging, emails, and presence, and why pressure, urgency, and over-persuasion often backfire with today’s buyers.

This episode is for you if:
    • You’re tired of relying on sales pages to do all the heavy lifting
    • You’ve noticed people consuming your content but not taking action
    • You want sales to feel calmer, more consistent, and more human
    • You’re building courses, programs, or services and want them to convert without pushing

By the end of this episode, you’ll understand the three internal shifts buyers need to move through before they’re ready to say yes — and how to design a trust-based funnel that supports those shifts automatically.

If selling has ever felt harder than it should, this conversation will show you why — and how to build a system that earns the yes long before you ever ask for it.

    Show notes

Selling is changing — and if the old tactics are starting to feel exhausting, awkward, or misaligned, you’re not imagining it.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why 2026 marks a new era of selling — one where pressure, hustle, and “be louder” strategies are officially outdated. The future of sales isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about building soulful, scalable systems rooted in connection, clarity, and trust.

We’ll talk about why buyers are more discerning than ever, why emotional intelligence has become the most valuable sales skill, and how automation can still feel deeply human when it’s built the right way. I’m also introducing a simple framework that explains what actually drives decisions now — and why the most sustainable businesses moving forward will not be built on burnout.

This episode is perfect for you if:
    • Selling the old way feels heavy or forced
    • You want to scale without being “on” all the time
    • You’re building courses, programs, or memberships and want consistent sales

And the truth is, you’re not overwhelmed because you’re incapable. You’re overwhelmed because you’re carrying more than most people will ever see.

In this episode, I’m breaking down what it actually looks like to grow a business when life is heavy — and how to do it without abandoning yourself in the process. You’ll learn how to redefine capacity without guilt, simplify your strategy so it supports your real life, and build systems that hold your business steady even when you need to pause.

This episode is perfect for you if:

    Show notes

If you’ve ever wondered why people love your content but don’t move forward… this episode will give you the missing piece. Because it’s not that you need more offers — you need a buyer journey. A simple, intentional path that guides your audience from curious to committed, without confusion, pressure, or constant reinvention.

In this episode, I’m breaking down the three core steps to designing a buyer journey that actually converts — the same steps that helped me scale during my Social From Scratch era with one offer and a whole lot of strategy.

You’ll learn how to define your audience’s true starting point, build the belief bridges that move buyers forward, and design momentum so powerful that your next offer becomes the natural next step.

This episode is perfect for you if:
    • You’ve been juggling multiple offers but nothing feels cohesive
    • You’re tired of launching without creating true long-term movement
    • You feel close to big results but something in the journey isn’t clicking
    • You want to scale without adding more to your plate

By the end, you’ll know exactly how to map a buyer journey that feels intuitive, aligned, and effective — one that supports your audience, simplifies your business, and finally creates the consistent sales you’ve been working for.

And if you’re ready to turn your offer pathway into a true sales system, watch my free Sales With Heart Masterclass, where I teach you the exact journey-driven funnel that helped me generate $183K in sales with heart, alignment, and ease.

  20. 019. From Blurry to Booked: The Brand Clarity Shifts You Need For More Sales

    Show notes

If people aren’t buying from you, it’s not because you’re doing something wrong — it’s because your audience isn’t ready.

Brand clarity isn’t just about aesthetics or cohesion. It’s a powerful sales tool that shapes how people perceive your value, understand your role, and decide whether you’re the person they want guiding their transformation.

In this episode, I’m breaking down the three clarity shifts that instantly create buyer readiness:
    • Clarity Shift #1: Defining the role you play in your audience’s life (and why this transforms you from “inspiring” to “essential”)
    • Clarity Shift #2: Making your transformation visible so your audience trusts your ability to get them results
    • Clarity Shift #3: Using identity-based positioning to attract the exact version of your audience who’s most ready to buy

You’ll hear personal stories from my own brand journey, real student transformations, and the psychology behind why clarity — not hustle or aesthetics — is what makes people buy long before you ever pitch.

This episode is perfect for you if:
    • Your content gets attention but not action
    • People admire your brand but don’t buy from you
    • You’ve been working hard but something still feels… off
    • You’re ready to build a brand people don’t just follow — but choose

By the end, you’ll know exactly how to create the kind of clarity that speeds up decision-making, builds trust, and primes your audience to say yes with confidence.

And if you’re ready to take the next step, join me inside the Magnetic Brand Workshop, where I’ll teach you how to clarify your positioning, sharpen your message, and build a brand that sells for you.

🎧 Let’s turn confusion into clarity, and clarity into clients.
