Halloween II (1981) | Doug's Hall Pass, Michael Myers & Hospital Horror 🎃🔪
Season 1, Episode 438
Show notes
This week on The Good, The Bad, and The Sequel, we're celebrating Halloween with a special HALL PASS EPISODE, and Doug is cashing in his pick for Halloween II (1981)!
Michael Myers is back, Laurie Strode is still fighting for her life, and apparently the most dangerous place in Haddonfield is the local hospital!
Picking up immediately after the events of John Carpenter's original Halloween, this sequel takes us inside Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, where a suspiciously small staff, some questionable security, and one very determined masked killer make for a Halloween night nobody will forget.
But does Halloween II live up to the original, or is Michael Myers starting to overstay his welcome?
We dig into everything, including:
🎃 Doug's Hall Pass pick — why Halloween II earned a special spot on the podcast and whether Jamie agrees with the choice
🔪 Michael Myers returning for round two — somehow surviving six bullets and a fall from a balcony like it's no big deal
🏥 Haddonfield Memorial Hospital — where is everybody, and why does this place have approximately four employees working the night shift?
👻 The movie picking up immediately after the original — one of the coolest sequel concepts in horror history
😱 The kills getting bigger and bloodier — from the hot tub scene to the hospital's increasingly creative death traps
🎭 Jamie Lee Curtis returning as Laurie Strode — although she spends a surprising amount of the movie lying in a hospital bed
👨⚕️ Dr. Loomis being completely obsessed with Michael Myers — Donald Pleasence once again delivering the intensity we love
🎃 The sibling revelation — the decision to make Laurie and Michael brother and sister and how it changed the entire franchise
🎬 Rick Rosenthal taking over directing duties and John Carpenter and Debra Hill returning to write the sequel
💉 The hospital staff making some truly questionable decisions — apparently surviving a slasher movie isn't covered in medical school
🔥 That explosive finale — Loomis, Laurie, Michael, and one very unfortunate hospital operating room
🎶 The iconic Halloween theme getting a synth-heavy makeover — does it add to the atmosphere or take away from the original's simplicity?
🤔 Whether Halloween II is one of the best horror sequels of the '80s or just a bloody continuation of a nearly perfect original
And, of course, we'll be debating whether Halloween II deserves its place among the great slasher sequels and whether Doug made the right choice cashing in his Hall Pass!

Cyborg 2 (1993) | Angelina Jolie, Jack Palance's Mouth & A Serious Lack of Action 🤖💥
Season 1, Episode 437
Show notes
This week, The Good, The Bad, and The Sequel is heading to the year 2074 for Cyborg 2, the direct-to-video sequel to the 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme sci-fi action movie!
This time around, we're following Cash Reese, a cyborg played by a very young Angelina Jolie, who's caught up in a corporate conspiracy involving artificial humans, explosive technology, and a whole lot of questionable decisions.
But does Cyborg 2 deliver the futuristic action we're looking for, or does this sequel need a serious software update?
We dig into everything, including:
🤖 Angelina Jolie being just 17 during filming and looking back at one of her earliest starring roles
👄 Jack Palance's mouth on camera — because apparently getting the rest of him involved was optional
💥 The surprising lack of action in a sequel to a movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme
🦾 Cyborgs vs. androids — what exactly is the difference, and does this movie know?
💣 The brilliant corporate strategy of building cyborgs with explosives inside them
❤️ Cash Reese and Colt 45's unusual romance — because nothing says love like a futuristic assassination plot
🏢 The competing corporations and their plans for the future of humanity
🎭 Billy Drago bringing his unmistakable screen presence to the proceedings
🔫 The movie's attempts to deliver sci-fi thrills, martial arts, and futuristic action on a limited budget
🎬 How Cyborg 2 compares to the original Cyborg and whether it deserves to carry on the franchise
😂 The strange plot choices, questionable dialogue, and wonderfully dated '90s sci-fi atmosphere
🤔 Whether this sequel is an underrated cult classic or a movie that should have remained in sleep mode
And, of course, we'll be debating whether Cyborg 2 is a worthy follow-up or another example of Hollywood proving that just because you can make a sequel doesn't mean you should!

💀 The incredible practical creature effects, makeup, and Predator design that still hold up beautifully today
🔫 The expanded Predator lore, new weapons, and trophy room reveals that changed the franchise forever
🦴 The legendary Xenomorph skull Easter egg that helped launch decades of Alien vs. Predator speculation
🚇 Intense action sequences, brutal kills, Bill Paxton's unforgettable performance, and why this sequel deserves far more respect than it gets
🎬 Why nearly every Predator film released since has borrowed ideas first introduced in Predator 2Three decades later, Predator 2 remains one of the boldest franchise sequels ever made—expanding the mythology while delivering an unforgettable blend of sci-fi, horror, and action.

Cheech & Chong's Next Movie (1980) | Episode 420, Stoner Shenanigans & Peak Comedy Chaos 🌿🚐😂
Season 1, Episode 420
Show notes
This week on The Good, The Bad, and The Sequel, we had a change of plans. The sequel we originally wanted to cover, McBride: Semper Fi, was only available in a grainy, nearly unwatchable version, so for our 420th episode, we pivoted to something much more appropriate: Cheech & Chong's Next Movie.
And honestly? It may have been fate.
The iconic comedy duo returns for a sequel that somehow manages to be even more ridiculous, meandering, and hilarious than the original. There's no real plot, no real destination, and somehow that's exactly the point.
We dig into everything, including:
🌿 Why Cheech & Chong perfected the "hangout movie" long before it became a thing
🚐 The nonstop stream of sketches, side quests, and complete nonsense that somehow works
😂 Chong's cousin Red and one of the greatest sequel character substitutions ever
🎭 How Cheech and Chong's chemistry carries every scene, no matter how insane it gets
🔥 The movie's place in comedy history and why it still has a devoted fanbase decades later
🎬 The memorable cameos, weird encounters, and endlessly quotable moments
😆 Why the lack of a traditional plot somehow makes the movie more entertaining
💨 The perfect choice for Episode 420 and a reminder that sometimes movies just need to be funWhether you're a longtime fan or watching it for the first time, Cheech & Chong's Next Movie remains a unique piece of comedy history that could only have come from this legendary duo.
