  1. 353. Conviction - How to Become A Man Who Cannot Be Moved

    Season 4, Episode 353

    Show notes

Everybody wants to believe they would stand when the pressure comes. But conviction is not proven by what you say in comfort. It is revealed by what remains when the cost keeps rising. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach challenge Christian men to examine whether what they call conviction is actually rooted deeply enough to survive opposition, suffering, uncertainty, and time. Real conviction is not hype, confidence, stubbornness, or emotion. It is knowing what is right, knowing why it matters, and being willing to act on it regardless of the cost.

The foundation begins with wisdom and discernment. Wisdom teaches you what is true, while discernment gives you the maturity to understand how truth should be applied in a specific moment. Biblical masculinity requires more than strong opinions or rigid standards. It requires humility, a relentless pursuit of truth, and a willingness to let God correct you. Jesus did not call men to merely know Scripture, but to live it. Faith becomes stronger through application, and endurance is built as you repeatedly choose what is right even when the easier option would be to bend.

Purpose and courage complete the picture. Purpose answers the question of what is actually worth suffering for, while courage determines whether you will act when the moment arrives. Christian men who want to finish their race need something deeper than motivation. They need a purpose worth paying for and the courage to live according to it. Conviction is grown over a lifetime through truth, wisdom, discernment, faith, action, and repeated obedience. The goal is to reach the end able to say what Paul said: I fought the good fight, I finished the race, and I kept the faith.

  2. 352. Three Standards Every Man Should Raise

    Season 4, Episode 352

    Show notes

Your standards are not your goals. They are the minimum you are willing to accept from yourself, and that means the life you have today may reveal standards you never consciously chose. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach challenge Christian men to become unreasonable about three areas that shape almost everything else: their relationship with God, their personal capability, and their marriage. Purpose requires more than checking the right boxes. It requires deciding what kind of man you are unwilling to become.

Following Jesus is not about adding faith to a list of responsibilities. It is about seeking God with your whole heart until knowing Him becomes more valuable than what you can get from Him. Biblical masculinity also demands preparation. Men should train mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally with the understanding that life does not schedule its hardest tests around your convenience. Endurance is developed before the moment you need it. The goal is not simply to stay fit or appear disciplined, but to become capable, useful, strong, and prepared to carry responsibility when the moment demands it.

That same unreasonable mentality belongs in your marriage. Do not wait until something is broken before you decide to invest in it. Pursue your wife, grow together, build toward a shared purpose, and refuse to let a good marriage become an excuse to stop developing a great one. Standards rooted in identity and faith continually pull Christian men toward who God created them to become. Seek Him wholeheartedly. Train so you do not become soft. Build a marriage that keeps getting stronger. Good enough is a dangerous place to stop.

  3. 351. Faith or Fantasy? - The Need For Unreasonable Men

    Season 4, Episode 351

    Show notes

Most people are taught to be reasonable. Accept the limits, follow the precedent, avoid unnecessary risk, and do what everyone else considers normal. But nearly every meaningful breakthrough begins with someone willing to question what everyone else has accepted. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach challenge Christian men to become more unreasonable about their standards, their commitments, and what they believe is possible. Jesus repeatedly confronted what His culture considered normal, and a life of purpose often requires the same willingness to resist conformity.

But being unreasonable does not mean becoming stubborn, reckless, or delusional. Biblical masculinity requires the wisdom to know the difference between conviction and stubbornness, courage and recklessness, faith and fantasy. A man of conviction can change his method without abandoning his mission. A courageous man understands the risk and decides what is worth pursuing anyway. And real faith does not ignore reality simply because you want something to be true. It sees reality clearly, trusts the character of God, and moves forward without requiring certainty about the outcome.

Greatness requires two strengths at the same time: the strength to accept reality and the strength to challenge it. Christian men need the endurance to hear hard truths about where they are without allowing those truths to define where they can go. Your weaknesses are real. The obstacles may be real. The odds may be terrible. But none of those things automatically determine what God can do through a man who knows his purpose, refuses to negotiate the right commitments, and has the faith to keep moving when everyone else says the reasonable thing is to stop.

  4. 350. The System That Builds Great Men - What Great Training Looks Like

    Season 4, Episode 350

    Show notes

You do not rise to the occasion. You fall to the level of your training. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and former Navy SEAL Garrett Unclebach unpack what actually makes a training program capable of transforming a person instead of simply teaching them to complete a task. For Christian men pursuing purpose, growth cannot be reduced to working harder or collecting achievements. The deeper question is whether the way you are living is actually developing you into the kind of man capable of carrying what God has called you to do.

Jesus did not simply gather followers and give them instructions. He developed disciples who could think, act, lead, and eventually carry the mission without Him physically standing beside them. That same principle applies to biblical masculinity, leadership, business, fitness, marriage, and faith. Great training has a clear target, measurable evidence of growth, enough sustainability to endure over time, and progression that continually builds on mastered fundamentals. The goal is not simply completing more repetitions. It is becoming more capable.

A life of purpose requires more than intensity. It requires a process that keeps producing growth long after motivation disappears. Christian men should be able to look at their habits, disciplines, relationships, and spiritual lives and ask whether their training is producing the fruit they actually want. Faith and endurance are strengthened through consistent development, not occasional bursts of effort. The goal is not merely to accomplish something impressive. It is to become the kind of man who is prepared for whatever mission God puts in front of him.

  5. 349. Why Some Men Reap More Than Others

    Season 4, Episode 349

    Show notes

Most people expect growth to look like a straight line. Work hard, make progress, repeat. But real transformation rarely happens that way. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach challenge Christian men to rethink endurance, progress, and the seasons where it feels like nothing is working. Jesus compared the Kingdom of God to a seed that grows into something far greater than its beginning, but He never promised the process would happen on our preferred timeline. Faith requires learning to trust what God is doing even when you cannot yet see the harvest.

Biblical masculinity requires the endurance to keep sowing when progress feels slow, suffering to develop character instead of bitterness, and the maturity to understand that the process may be producing something greater in you than the outcome you originally wanted. Purpose is not fulfilled by avoiding pain or constantly searching for a faster path. Sometimes the hardest seasons are the very places where God is building the strength, wisdom, obedience, and faith you will need for what comes next. If you quit too early, you may walk away from the lesson, the growth, and the harvest that were still developing beneath the surface.

But endurance alone is not enough. Growth multiplies when men become aligned around shared values and a common mission, just as Jesus built disciples who could carry His work beyond His physical ministry. Division does the opposite, slowly destroying the compounding effect of years of faithfulness. The challenge is simple but demanding: endure so you can grow, align so you can multiply, and fight anything that pulls you away from obedience, unity, and the mission God has given you. Keep sowing, keep growing, and trust that at the proper time you will reap if you do not give up.

  6. 348. The Difference Between Belief & Faith

    Season 4, Episode 348

    Show notes

What does it actually mean to live by faith? For many Christian men, belief can stay theoretical until life gets uncertain, painful, or completely outside their control. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach explore the difference between simply believing in God and making decisions as if His character can actually be trusted. Real faith is not mental optimism. It is choosing to put your full weight on what you believe, especially when you cannot see how the outcome will unfold.

Becoming a man of faith starts with knowing God deeply enough that trust becomes a natural response instead of something you have to force. Jesus is not a formula for controlling outcomes, and faith is not a tool for getting God to do what you want. It is relationship, obedience, and confidence in who He is. Biblical masculinity requires men who can choose obedience over control, principles over feelings, and faithful action over fear. That kind of faith produces peace, freedom, stability, wisdom, courage, and the ability to lead when everyone else is being driven by emotion.

Purpose becomes much clearer when you stop demanding certainty before you move. Faith allows Christian men to act with conviction even when the plan is incomplete, the cost is high, and fear is telling them to wait. You do not need to know every detail if you know the One giving the instruction. The question is not whether you can eliminate every doubt. The question is whether your trust in God is strong enough to determine your next step anyway.

  7. 347. The Trait That Gives a Man Authority & Respect

    Season 4, Episode 347

    Show notes

What is your word actually worth? For Christian men, integrity is far more than avoiding lies. It is becoming the kind of man whose words and actions consistently match. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach unpack one of the simplest and most demanding principles of biblical masculinity: if you say you are going to do something, do it. Every promise you keep strengthens something inside you, while every careless commitment you break quietly teaches you that your own decisions do not have to be taken seriously.

Keeping your word develops discipline, self-trust, and the endurance to let your decisions outrank your emotions. It also transforms the relationships around you. Your wife, children, friends, employees, and partners should be able to build on what you say without constantly checking, reminding, or compensating for you. Jesus taught that your yes should mean yes and your no should mean no, and that standard of faithfulness gives a man something increasingly rare: credibility. When people know you follow through, trust grows, leadership becomes easier, and your words begin to carry real authority.

This is not about pretending you will never fail. It is about making integrity part of who you are. Purpose requires men who can be trusted with responsibility, and faith requires obedience when keeping your commitment is inconvenient. Quitting on your word because you are tired, uncomfortable, or no longer feel like following through slowly weakens your character. Mature men learn to speak carefully because every commitment obligates their future self. Say less, commit carefully, and follow through relentlessly.

  8. 346. Why Most Men Stop Too Soon - The Difference Between Trying and Giving Everything

    Season 4, Episode 346

    Show notes

How much of the life God created you for do you actually want? In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach challenge Christian men to examine the difference between giving a lot and giving everything. Greatness is not simply trying harder or becoming slightly better. It is the pursuit of everything God created you to become, and that kind of transformation demands more than comfort, convenience, and partial commitment.

Jesus modeled the path clearly. Greatness comes through sacrifice, obedience, service, and the willingness to surrender your whole heart. Biblical masculinity requires endurance because the deeper you go, the harder the transformation becomes. The easy changes come first. Eventually you reach the places where faith is tested, selfishness has to die, and quitting starts to feel reasonable. But purpose is not fulfilled by giving God most of yourself. It is found in the ongoing decision to trust Him with all of it, even when you cannot see the outcome or the fruit of what you are building.

The call is bigger than one intense moment of commitment. It is all of you, for all of time, in every area of your life. Your faith, marriage, family, friendships, finances, work, health, and rest are all things you have been given to steward. The goal is to keep growing, keep multiplying, and keep running until you can say with Paul that you finished the race and kept the faith. Christian men who want real greatness must stop asking how little they can give and begin asking a harder question: how much of what God created me for am I willing to leave unfinished?

  9. 345. How to See What Others Miss - The Hidden Value You're Walking Past

    Season 4, Episode 345

    Show notes

Most people are better at seeing price than value. They look at a person, opportunity, business, relationship, or resource and judge it by what it is today instead of what it could become. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach explore why the ability to recognize value is one of the most powerful skills a man can develop. Jesus repeatedly saw potential in people others overlooked, and Christian men who understand their purpose are called to develop the same ability to look beyond appearances and recognize what God has placed in front of them.

Seeing value begins with understanding where value comes from. God is the author of value, and understanding that you were created in His image changes the way you see yourself and everything around you. Biblical masculinity is not passive. God put Adam in the garden to work it, keep it, develop it, and make more of what he had been given. When men understand their own God-given value, they stop approaching life only transactionally and begin asking a different question: What could this become if I faithfully bring my knowledge, wisdom, creativity, vision, and effort to it?

The ability to see value grows through knowledge, wisdom, pattern recognition, vision, and agency. Faith allows you to see beyond present circumstances, endurance allows you to keep building when the work becomes difficult, and purpose gives you a reason to create rather than consume. If you spend your life avoiding pain or quitting when the price becomes uncomfortable, you will miss much of the value God has placed around you. The goal is to become the kind of man who walks into every environment asking how he can multiply what he has been given and leave it better than he found it.

  10. 344. The Cost of Becoming Who God Called You to Be - The Price Payer's Mindset

    Season 4, Episode 344

    Show notes

Everybody wants the outcome. Far fewer people are willing to pay the price required to get there. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach examine the gap between wanting a better life and actually becoming the kind of man capable of carrying it. Purpose has a cost, growth has a cost, and following Jesus was never presented as a life built around comfort. The question is not simply what you want. It is what you are willing to give, endure, and surrender in order to become who God has called you to be.

For Christian men, price paying goes far beyond grinding harder or proving how tough you are. Biblical masculinity requires discipline, endurance, faith, and the willingness to choose what matters most when comfort offers an easier alternative. Every meaningful pursuit demands something from you, and quitting often becomes tempting when the price turns out to be higher than expected. But the willingness to stay faithful when the cost becomes real is what separates desire from conviction.

You are already paying a price with your life. The only question is what you are buying with it. Every hour, habit, sacrifice, decision, and act of obedience is moving you toward something. This episode challenges men to stop expecting purpose without sacrifice, stop measuring decisions only by comfort, and develop the faith to pay the right price for the right things. If God has called you to something worth doing, becoming the man capable of carrying it will cost you, but the alternative may cost far more.

  11. 343. How to Stop Being Afraid of Death

    Season 4, Episode 343

    Show notes

Death has a way of snapping everything back into focus. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and former Navy SEAL Garrett Unclebach confront a subject most people spend their lives avoiding: mortality. Whether it comes through losing someone you love, witnessing tragedy, facing danger, or simply realizing that your time is limited, these “mortality moments” reveal what you actually believe. For Christian men, faith in Jesus should create a radically different relationship with death not because we believe we are invincible, but because we know we are eternal.

The resurrection of Jesus changes the entire equation. If Christ defeated death, then death is no longer the ultimate threat, and fear no longer gets to dictate how a man lives. Biblical masculinity means structuring your life around truth before pressure forces you to react to circumstances. It means having the courage and endurance to obey God when doing the right thing is costly, refusing to quit because life becomes uncomfortable, and understanding that this earthly life is only one part of a much larger eternal story. Death may end your time here, but for the believer, it does not end your life.

That perspective should create urgency, not passivity. You have one earthly life, and every day you are running out of it. So what will you do with what God has put in your hands? Build the strongest marriage you can. Love your children deeply. Pursue your purpose. Know God. Serve others. Live with faith and courage instead of allowing the fear of death to make your decisions for you. When eternity becomes real, suffering looks different, priorities become clearer, and the goal becomes simple: live a life that honors God so completely that when death comes, you have nothing left that you wish you had given.

  12. 342. When to Quit and When to Endure - Are You Following Purpose or Protecting Your Ego?

    Season 4, Episode 342

    Show notes

How do you know when to endure and when to walk away? In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach confront the tension between perseverance and wisdom. Christian men are often told never to quit, but continuing in the wrong direction is not faithfulness. True endurance is not stubbornly refusing to change; it is refusing to abandon what is genuinely worth suffering for.

This conversation exposes the false forms of endurance that keep men trapped. Ego makes you continue because you cannot admit you were wrong. Sunk cost tells you that too much time, money, or effort has already been invested to stop. Fear convinces you that a miserable but familiar future is safer than an uncertain one. Biblical masculinity requires both the conviction to keep moving and the humility to change course. The mission may remain, even when the method must change.

Following Jesus means holding your purpose with faith while surrendering your preferred outcome. Healthy endurance is marked by conviction, adaptability, surrender, wise counsel, and daily faithfulness. You should not quit merely because you are tired, discouraged, or afraid—but you can quit when God gives you clarity that your motives, route, or priorities are wrong. This episode will help you examine why you are continuing, what is truly worth the price, and what faithfulness requires from you today.

  13. 341. How to Win Every Argument - Dr. Robi Sonderegger's Foolproof Process

    Season 4, Episode 341

    Show notes

Conflict is unavoidable, but most men enter it with the wrong goal. In this tools and tactics episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach sit down with Dr. Robi Sonderegger to unpack a practical conflict resolution framework that can change the way you handle tension in marriage, family, leadership, business, and everyday relationships. The key is simple but challenging: if one person wins and the other loses, the relationship still loses.

Dr. Robi breaks down a three-step problem-solving plan built around emotional intelligence, humility, and wisdom. First, ask why with no negative emotion. Second, paraphrase what the other person is feeling until they know you truly understand. Third, work toward a win-win solution, remembering that the person who offers the second solution often has more influence. For Christian men, this is more than a communication tactic. It is a way to lead with patience, empathy, self-control, and faith instead of pride, defensiveness, or the need to be right.

Biblical masculinity is not proven by overpowering someone in conflict. It is shown when a man can lower the temperature, listen well, validate emotion without surrendering truth, and pursue unity without passivity. Whether the conflict is with your wife, your kids, a friend, or someone you lead, this episode gives you a tool you can use immediately. If your purpose is to follow Jesus and build stronger relationships, learning how to resolve conflict may be one of the most important skills you develop.

  14. 340. Stop Wasting Your Suffering - Dr. Robi Sonderegger

    Season 4, Episode 340

    Show notes

Suffering is unavoidable, but it does not have to be wasted. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach sit down with Dr. Robi Sonderegger to talk about one of the most uncomfortable and necessary parts of the Christian life. Whether it comes through persecution, hardship, loss, discipline, pressure, or pain, suffering reveals what a man believes, what he is living for, and whether his hope is rooted in circumstances or in Jesus.

This conversation challenges the comfortable, idealistic view many men have of growth, purpose, and faith. Dr. Robi explains that suffering can either become a prison or a catapult. It can make a man bitter, angry, and trapped in what happened to him, or it can humble him, soften him, and make him moldable again. The difference is meaning. When a man has purpose, suffering becomes something he can move through instead of something he spends his life avoiding. Without purpose, even small discomforts feel like threats; with purpose, pain can become the pressure that builds strength.

Biblical masculinity is not about pretending suffering does not hurt. It is about refusing to let suffering become the loudest voice in your life. Jesus suffered with purpose, and men who follow Him are called to take up responsibility, choose hard things, and allow God to use pressure to form character. This episode is a call to stop running from every discomfort, stop confusing comfort with freedom, and begin asking what God wants to build in you through what you are walking through.

  15. 339. The Root Of Every Sin - How Selfishness Destroys Your Life

    Season 4, Episode 339

    Show notes

What if sin is simpler than we make it? In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach get to the root issue beneath every destructive choice: selfishness. From the Garden of Eden to the decisions men make every day, sin begins when the question shifts from “What did God say?” to “What could this do for me?” That small turn of the heart can distort a man’s view of God, damage his relationships, and make everything under his leadership harder.

This conversation exposes three lies selfishness uses to pull Christian men off mission: “I deserve this,” “It won’t hurt anyone,” and “I need this.” Each one sounds reasonable in the moment, but each one places self above truth. Entitlement tells a man he is owed comfort, reward, respect, or pleasure. Autonomy convinces him his choices happen in a vacuum. Fear tells him he has to take control because obedience might cost too much. But faith requires a man to deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Jesus even when pain, desire, or fear are screaming for authority.

Biblical masculinity is not built by letting appetite, comfort, or self-protection lead. It is built when men learn to recognize the tactics of selfishness and choose purpose over pleasure, mission over emotion, and obedience over control. Every compromise sows a seed, and every seed eventually produces a harvest. This episode is a direct challenge to examine the small thoughts that seem harmless, confront the selfishness hiding beneath them, and live with the discipline, wisdom, and maturity God requires.

    Season 4, Episode 338

    Show notes

Forgiveness and mercy are often treated like the same thing, but they are not. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach unpack one of the most misunderstood tensions in the Christian life: how do we forgive fully without ignoring justice, consequences, and truth? Forgiveness is commanded by Jesus and is always within your power, but mercy requires authority, wisdom, and the ability to understand what is actually best.

This conversation challenges men to reject both vengeance and shallow compassion. Unforgiveness corrupts the heart, keeps wounds alive, and puts a man in a place God never designed him to occupy. But mercy without wisdom can become ruinous empathy, where love for one person creates harm for others. Biblical masculinity requires a deeper kind of discernment: the ability to forgive from the heart while still honoring law, consequence, righteousness, and the protection of others.

For Christian men seeking to live with purpose, faith, and maturity, this episode is a call to think higher than emotion. The question is not simply, “What feels loving?” or “What feels just?” The better question is, “What glorifies God most in this situation?” Jesus reveals the perfect union of justice and mercy, and only God can hold both with complete righteousness. Our job is to forgive as commanded, grow in wisdom, resist ruinous empathy, and seek the narrow path where love and justice meet.

  17. 337. The Three Relationships That Matter Most - Core Structures Of A Godly Man

    Season 4, Episode 334

    Show notes

Most men do not drift into strong relationships with God, their wife, or their children. Those relationships have to be built with structure, truth, and consistency. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach unpack the three most important relationships in a man’s life and why they cannot be left to convenience, emotion, busyness, or circumstance. If you do not structure your life around truth, pressure will eventually structure it around whatever is most urgent.

This conversation gives Christian men a practical framework for building the relationships that matter most. Your relationship with God begins with knowing whose you are, hearing Him through Scripture, walking with Him in prayer, and obeying because you trust Him. Marriage requires alignment around something greater than comfort, happiness, or personal preference. Biblical masculinity means leading your marriage toward shared purpose, prioritizing connection, and creating rhythms that keep your wife second only to Jesus.

The same principle applies to children. Providing for your family is not just putting food on the table; it is helping your children walk toward the future God created them for. Men are called to train, model, disciple, and spend the time required to produce what they are in their children. This episode is a reminder that a life built on sand may look fine from the outside, but it will not stand when pressure comes. If you want a family rooted in faith, purpose, and truth, you need the right structures before the storm hits.

  18. 336. Three Lessons For Pursuing Your Purpose - 5 Years Of The Impossible Life

    Season 4, Episode 336

    Show notes

What does it really take to pursue a God-given dream? In this five-year reflection on The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach look back at the early days of zero plays, small events, missed targets, long mornings, and years of consistency. This is not a victory lap. It is an encouragement for Christian men who know there is something in their heart from God, but feel discouraged because the fruit has not shown up yet.

This episode unpacks three lessons from five years of building: develop an inevitable mentality, understand that vision matures as you do, and commit to consistency even when it takes longer than you thought. Nick and Garrett talk about the difference between belief and expectation, how faith fuels resilience, and why God often reveals more of the vision only as you keep walking. Biblical masculinity is not built on hype, convenience, or emotional surges. It is built through obedience, endurance, discipline, and a willingness to stay faithful when nobody is clapping.

If you are pursuing purpose, building something meaningful, or wondering whether what God put in you is worth continuing, this episode will challenge you to keep going. The fruit of faithfulness often comes from seeds planted years earlier. A man following Jesus cannot measure his calling only by early results, public recognition, or visible momentum. He must decide what God put him on the earth to do, pay the price of consistency, and trust that the dream will grow as he does.

  19. 335. When Purpose Feels Stuck - How To Take The Next Step

    Season 4, Episode 335

    Show notes

What do you do when you know you were made for more, but you do not know what the next step is? In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach talk about the deep ache many Christian men feel when they know they are not fully living their purpose. That feeling is not random. It is the eternal calling card of God inside a man, reminding him that he was created for a reason and that his life is meant to matter beyond comfort, survival, or success.

This conversation gives men a practical framework for discovering and moving forward in purpose: what is in your heart and what is in your hand. The heart carries desire, dream, calling, and the internal pull toward what God placed inside you. But that dream has to stay on the altar, because even a God-given desire can become corrupted if it becomes more important than Jesus. What is in your hand represents the gifts, abilities, experiences, resources, and opportunities God has already entrusted to you. Many men stay stuck because they are waiting for what they do not have instead of becoming faithful with what they do.

Purpose is not found by sitting still and waiting for God to write the whole plan in the sky. It is walked out through faith, discipline, self-mastery, stewardship, and obedience in the current season. Biblical masculinity means holding humility and ambition together: dreaming greatly, but trusting God for promotion; developing your skillsets, but keeping your motive pure; taking action, but staying submitted. If you want everything God has for your life, this episode will challenge you to stop waiting, take inventory, and become fully faithful with the heart and hand He has already given you.

  20. 334. How to Know If It's God's Voice Or Your Own

    Season 4, Episode 334

    Show notes

How do you know if it is God’s voice or just your own thoughts? In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach tackle one of the most common questions Christian men ask when they are trying to follow Jesus with purpose and faith. Hearing God is not a formula, a magic trick, or a way to get divine permission for what you already want. It is a relationship that must be developed, trained, and protected.

This conversation explores what helps and hinders a man’s ability to hear from the Lord. Scripture is the primary way God speaks, and the more His Word gets in you, the easier it becomes to recognize His voice. The Holy Spirit also teaches, guides, reminds, and prompts, but He is not something to control. He is a person to honor. Prayer becomes the place where a man exchanges his wishes for God’s will, and other believers can become part of how God corrects, confirms, and protects His people.

For men who want real discernment, this episode is a call to stop chasing answers and start pursuing God. Sin, anxiety, coveting, wrong inputs, and isolation dull spiritual senses, while Scripture, prayer, purity, a neutral heart, and brotherhood sharpen them. Biblical masculinity is not just making bold decisions; it is learning to submit your desires, listen with humility, and obey what God has already made clear. If you want to hear God more clearly, the way forward is deeper relationship with Him.
