    Broadcast Notes

This week’s broadcast is brought to you by Crazy Ivan’s Dead Peasant Insurance. For an extra fee, we can make sure your employees are actually in danger.

Geno installs a wideband in the 940 and discovers exactly how much fuel he’s wasting. The proposed solution is more turbo, naturally. Meanwhile, the crew compares GPA-lowering campus activities, questions who should really be managing this media, and attracts the attention of a Surgeon General who takes the “General” part literally.

At the HBI international news desk, RFK’s brain worm gets a spacesuit and New Zealand stages a surprisingly welcome takeover. A Reddit argument about the DSA opens the door to communist factionalism, revisionism with excellent eyebrows, and the discovery that the bottom-left corner of the political compass might be a gay bar.

Also on the docket: karaoke misunderstandings, French suspension engineering, frozen Butterfingers, liquid-nitrogen piña coladas, and a San Antonio trip with absolutely no respect for the Alamo.

Back in the automotive department, The Juice prepares for commercial-driving paperwork, the crew debates racetracks, and WRC’s arrival in East Tennessee provides fresh motivation to resurrect Geno’s lifted 245. HBI immediately identifies a corresponding need for life insurance.

Finally, an invitation goes out to Yanis Varoufakis and the broadcast attempts to sign off approximately six times.

Check your oil. Winterize your boat. Go fucking vote.

Questions, comments, and strongly worded ideological corrections to provide fuel for Geno's desperately needed fire: mailbag@irohpodcast.com

  2. EP 24: Welcome Back My Friends

    Season 1, Episode 24

    Show notes

    Broadcast Notes

Caleb returns from Crazy Ivan’s Brazilian gulag with tales of artisan coffee, cheese bread, and a Fiat-powered escape. Meanwhile, Geno winterizes the irrigation, The Juice takes the Stagea to the Dragon, and the hosts acquire a feline audience.

Then it’s back to resurrecting dead automotive nameplates: Red Line Saturn wagons, improbable British sports cars, French executive luxury, and a Vector with entirely too much turbo lag. Along the way: Brazilian pizza, taxes on taxes, Waffle House, moth people, and checking whether your old Volkswagen is still someone else’s problem.

Welcome back, my friends, to the broadcast that never ends.

Check your oil. If there’s none under it, there’s none in it.

  3. Episode 23: Touching the Face of Pod

    Season 1, Episode 23

    Show notes

    Broadcast Notes

This week’s broadcast comes to you from 94.4 KPRK, where Justin and Geno have finally slipped the bondage of editorial control and established an anarcho-syndicalist commune. Meanwhile, Caleb has gone into hiding in Brazil following a deeply questionable electoral name-change scheme, leaving the remaining hosts to take turns acting as a sort of executive officer of the week.

Fleet maintenance: the Expedition (FOUR SIX MOD MOTOR BABY) continues leaking fluids, the Stagea gets fresh brake fluid and a Flex Tape intervention, and Geno prepares for crunchy rain season. The Juice also explores the entertainment potential of vintage JDM navigation screens, including the important achievement of driving a Stagea inside a Stagea.

Then the executive committee gets down to business: reviving America’s discontinued automotive nameplates. There are cheap sporty coupes, a quad-turbo V12 Lincoln Zephyr, a Corvair made from a backwards Volt, and an Eldorado large enough to obstruct international shipping. Oldsmobile somehow ends up on the moon, and Dodge presents the toughest philosophical question of the evening: Neon or Viper?

The committee’s findings are clear: giant coupes, tiny coupes, and wagons for everything in between.

Don't forget to check your oil. If it’s not leaking, it’s probably low.

In other news, we have gold Volvo wheels, Hot Sauce Tuesday, funny license plates, and a Brazilian DMV adventure involving engine numbers, hidden portals, and more than enough paperwork.

Finally, it’s time to discuss the Hantavirus 944: a Porsche sitting in the woods, a hundred-dollar offer, a property dispute, and an increasingly ambitious rescue plan. Along the way, there's an armored Chevrolet Omega, throttle body injection, forbidden-fruit and the case against putting an LS in everything.

    Season 1, Episode 13

    Show notes

    Broadcast Notes

This week, HBI has dispatched its correspondents to the front lines of the modern automotive market.

Justin “The Juice” reports from Knoxville, where a family car-shopping expedition becomes a confrontation between enthusiast logic and the realities of aging parents, comfortable seats and Toyota hybrid noises. The Crown Signia makes a strong case, Lexus and Alfa receive careful consideration, and the Mazda CX-90 emerges as the leading contender. One important question remains for our enthusiastic youth correspondent: turbo straight-six or plug-in hybrid?

From HBI's Twin Cities bureau, Geno introduces the newest member of the Fleet of Hammpions: a Tropic Green 1995 Volvo 940 Turbo with 220,000 miles, excellent modifications and a set of gold wheels waiting in the garage.

Caleb returns with a dispatch from The Land That Stellantis Forgot, detailing Fiat electrical progress, tales of large pandas and the competitive advantage of only one windshield wiper.

Sit back, put your feet up and let the good times roll.
