The Introverted Leader: Beat Imposter Syndrome to Elevate Your Leadership & Get Promoted

Business, Careers, Education, Self-Improvement

Do you ever feel like you’re doing everything right at work — yet still get overlooked because you’re not the loudest voice in the room?

The Introverted Leader is a podcast for quiet professionals who want to rise in leadership without pretending to be someone they’re not. I’m Greg Weinger — a tech executive with over 25 years of leadership experience (and yes, I’m an introvert). I’m here to share the stories, lessons, and shortcuts it took me far too long to learn, so you can rise faster, earn what you deserve, and lead with calm, confident authority.

You’ll learn how to:
• Build unshakeable confidence as a quiet leader -- beat imposter syndrome, trust your instincts, and pursue promotion without becoming someone else.
• Communicate with quiet authority in high-stakes moments — speak up in meetings, frame ideas clearly, and develop executive presence and storytelling that lands with senior leaders.
• Earn recognition and influence sustainably — increase visibility authentically, lead with calm influence, and manage your energy to thrive in extroverted cultures without burnout.

If you’ve ever felt undervalued, overlooked, or unsure you “fit” leadership, this show will help you turn calm, thoughtfulness, and empathy into a serious career advantage — and step into the next level with quiet confidence.

  1. #90 — Leadership Influence for Introverts: Map the Real Org Chart

    Season 2, Episode 90

    Show notes

Have you ever done the work, had the right idea, and still couldn't get buy-in, because the person who makes the call barely knows you exist?

Most advice on leadership influence asks introverts to work the room, sell harder, and get louder. That's a performance you can't keep up. It also misses the real problem: the org chart rarely shows who a decision-maker actually trusts.

My guest is Ryan Latta, a consultant who builds exceptional software and product teams and calls himself a "practiced introvert." He shares rapport mapping, the method he learned from Esther Derby and uses to reach leaders he has no direct line to. First, chart who trusts whom. Then find the person a leader turns to and asks, "What do you think about that?" Finally, go in through your strongest relationships, one conversation at a time. Together, we turned that method into a free AI skill you can try on a real situation at work today: gweinger.com/aiskills.

We also get into why doing the work isn't enough and how Ryan uses AI to stay in touch with people when outreach doesn't come naturally. He also explains why opening a meeting full of VPs with "I am dealing with a migraine today" earned him more trust, not less. This is authentic leadership built on what introverts already do well: observation, analysis, and one-on-one rapport.

In this episode you'll discover: - Map the relationships behind the org chart to find who really holds influence, and the path to them through people who already trust you. - Build a system for the visibility work you won't do naturally, like the AI partner that tells Ryan each morning who to check in with. - Budget your discomfort so hard conversations don't drain you, and be straight about your limits in a way that earns respect.

Hit play and listen now to learn how to build leadership influence without becoming someone you're not.

  2. #89 — Speaking Up Doesn't Mean Conflict: How Introverted Leaders Find Their Voice

    Season 2, Episode 89

    Show notes

Have you ever walked into a leadership meeting and felt pressure to become someone else? Louder, faster, the person who fills every silence?

Ruth Andermatt has coached highly sensitive and introverted leaders for 28 years. Her view is simple: "When we're present, the performance takes care of itself." She calls it coming home to your own power. It isn't a destination. It's a returning point you come back to before you walk into a room.

Ruth tells the story of a CEO in a male-dominated world who stopped trying to match the bold voices in her board meetings. Instead she placed questions, "Have we considered…?", stayed solid, and wasn't in a rush to fill the silence. Ruth explains why "speaking up doesn't mean conflict," and why the most dangerous thing on any team is when people go quiet. She shares how a piece of red construction paper on a home-office door became a boundary a whole staff of 25 could trust. And she tells a team of engineers, "Nice doesn't work. Kind speaks up."

In this episode you'll discover: - Come home to your own power before a meeting, with a breath, a walk, or fifteen minutes with your phone off, so you can see the people you're leading instead of collecting yourself. - Speak up without turning it into a fight, and treat a silent team as a warning sign, not agreement. - Set small, gentle boundaries and act on them consistently, because "you said no, but you didn't act no."

Hit play and listen now to learn how to speak up and lead as yourself.

  3. #88 — Imposter Syndrome: Why It Gets Louder the More You Achieve

    Season 2, Episode 88

    Show notes

Have you ever earned a big win, like a promotion, an award, or a shout-out in front of the whole team, and felt like a fraud instead of proud?

John Mollura knows that feeling well. As a defense engineer, he received a letter of commendation from the Department of Defense. While he waited for his name to be called, he had a panic attack, and afterward he hid the letter in a desk drawer for ten years. The more he achieved, the louder his imposter syndrome got, because every new accolade only stacked the house of cards higher.

Today John is a confidence coach, and he's an introvert everyone mistakes for an extrovert. He shares what finally broke that cycle: a practical way to catch your inner critic before it takes the controls, and the simple habits that help high achievers let their wins actually land.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    - Recognize the three autopilot voices (the drifter, the blamer, and the critic) and take back your agency with one question: "What's my 1%?"

    - Separate the data from the drama to quiet your inner critic, and keep an "archive of awesome" as evidence for the days self-doubt gets loud.

    - Build quiet confidence through action instead of waiting for it first: borrow belief from the people you trust, and accept a compliment with John's three-step method.

Hit play and listen now to learn how to overcome imposter syndrome and lead with quiet confidence, without waiting until you feel ready.

  4. #87 — Authentic Leadership: Why Fitting In Makes You Invisible at Work

    Season 2, Episode 87

    Show notes

Have you ever copied the leaders above you (how they dress, how they talk, even the golf they play) hoping it would finally get you noticed?

Here's the catch. You can perform your way into fitting in, but the more you look like everyone else, the less anyone sees what you actually bring. For an introverted leader, that's the quiet promotion gap: excellent work, a borrowed persona, and still invisible when promotion decisions get made.

Nikki Barua knows this firsthand. She's a CEO, keynote speaker, founder of FlipWork, and a lifelong introvert. Early in her corporate career she wore pantyhose and pearls and played golf she hated, because that's what she thought leaders did. In high school she froze in front of 1,000 classmates and got laughed off the stage. Today she speaks on stages around the world, and her peers call her a "wartime CEO" because she gets calmer when everything is falling apart. In this conversation, Nikki shares how she stopped performing, started being herself at work, and found that her quiet strengths were what made her visible all along.

In this episode you'll discover: - Turn the traits you've been trying to fix (introspection, patience, deep listening, spotting patterns) into the reason people trust you to lead - Build quiet authority on stage and in the room by getting your reps in and dropping the "big personality" persona that was never yours - Identify your zone of genius so your presence and your own story stand out in a world full of AI-generated sameness

As Nikki puts it: "If you don't show yourself, how will your tribe find you?" Hit play and listen now to hear how she went from laughed off the stage to leading on her own terms.

  5. #86 — Authentic Leadership: How Introverts Stop Getting Overlooked

    Season 2, Episode 86

    Show notes

Have you ever done the best work on your team and watched someone else get the credit, just because they were louder in the room?

For almost two decades, Joanna Rawbone copied the big-personality extroverts around her because that looked like the blueprint for success. It worked until burnout forced her to stop. Then, in a training room in Doha, she saw the same pattern she'd seen everywhere else in the world: the quiet people doing great work were consistently overlooked and undervalued. A communications director she worked with put it bluntly: extroversion bias may be "the last acceptable bias."

Joanna is the founder of Flourishing Introverts. In this conversation, she explains why the standard advice of "be more confident, be more assertive, push out of your comfort zone" is really coded advice to be more extroverted. She also shows the path that works instead: build credibility first, then step into visibility on your own terms.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Claim credit for your work without bragging, using a simple pre-frame that talks about the difference your work made, not just the fact that you did it
    • Reframe "you're so quiet" into a statement of strength, so you stop apologizing for how you naturally lead
    • Grow at your learning edge instead of jumping into fear and anxiety, the sustainable way to expand your comfort zone and lead authentically

If you've ever felt your work should speak for itself and it doesn't, this episode gives you the language and the model to change that. Hit play and listen now.

  6. #85 — Stop Getting Steamrolled in Meetings (Without Getting Louder)

    Season 2, Episode 85

    Show notes

Have you ever sat in a meeting knowing exactly what you wanted to say — and waited for a moment that never came?

Afterward, you told yourself you'd speak up next time. Here's what's actually happening: you're waiting for permission. And nobody in that room, or anywhere else, is going to hand it to you.

Bushra Khan teaches leadership to MBA and engineering students, and she's watched this play out in hundreds of rooms — including one full of brilliant engineering students who were waiting for her to tell them it was okay to send an email. She's not an introvert, and that's exactly what makes this conversation useful. You get to see how the person running the meeting thinks about pulling your voice into it, and what she wishes the quiet people in her classroom understood about their own hesitation.

We get into meeting facilitation that actually works, why discomfort gets mistaken for incompetence, and how to interrupt in a way that sounds like you.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Reframe the hesitation you feel before you speak — it's a permission-seeking habit you picked up somewhere a long time ago, not a competence gap. Like math or public speaking, it's a skill you can be coached into.
    • Run a meeting with a notebook and three questions — did you get a full sentence from every person (not a "yep, I agree"), did everyone offer a plus, a delta, or an aha, and did you follow up within 24 hours with whoever stayed quiet. Do that once or twice and their brain files you as a safe person.
    • Rehearse the interruption in your own voice — role-play it with a colleague or in front of a mirror until it stops feeling ridiculous. Interrupting doesn't have to be loud or rude, and when the selective person in the room finally breaks in, everyone leans forward.

Hit play and listen now. And if this one lands, subscribe wherever you're listening — that's how the next episode finds you.

  7. #84 — Public Speaking Anxiety: From Panic Attack On-Air to Keynote

    Season 2, Episode 84

    Show notes

Have you ever practiced a talk dozens of times, walked into the room, and felt your body just get away from you?

Your heart races. Your hands shake. There's a quiver in your voice that everyone can hear — or at least, that's what your brain tells you.

That's public speaking anxiety, and for a lot of introverted leaders it quietly decides which rooms you step into and which ones you avoid. Over time it stops being a bad moment and starts being a ceiling.

Tamara Laine spent her twenties buckling in Broadway auditions — she'd rehearse a song to perfection with a coach, then be physically unable to sing it in front of people. Years later, working as an on-air correspondent, her body finally gave out on set. She thought she was having a seizure. It was a full panic attack, live on national television.

She didn't leave the work. She went and built the tools. Today she's a startup founder who keynotes conferences, and in this conversation she walks through exactly what she does before she speaks — including the part she does in public, where nobody can tell.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Reframe the anxiety as evidence of growth — Tamara only ever felt her body react when she was reaching for something bigger, which means the flutter before a keynote or a hard meeting is information, not a verdict on whether you belong there.
    • Rewrite the scenario before it plays out — she writes down the catastrophic version her brain is projecting, then rewrites it out loud as the best possible outcome, because rehearsing the disaster is what creates the disaster. Pair it with box breathing (in four, hold four, out four, hold four) and you have a portable protocol you can run in the room.
    • Audit your calendar for the truth — Tamara's number one priority had zero appointments on it for a full month, and she didn't know until she looked. It's a check you can run tonight on your own last thirty days.

If public speaking anxiety has been quietly shrinking the rooms you're willing to walk into, hit play and listen now — this one hands you the toolkit.

  8. #83 — Executive Presence for Introverts: How to Lead Without Performing (Frankie Kemp)

    Season 2, Episode 83

    Show notes

Ever get stopped in the hallway by a senior leader who asks what you're working on — and freeze up, hedge, and walk away knowing that wasn't what you meant to say?

That's the executive communication gap. And for introverted leaders, the language you reach for when you're trying to sound humble or accurate — "we'll try," "hopefully," "we're optimizing" — is quietly building failure into your message before you deliver it. Your work is strong. That's not what's coming across.

This week, Greg sits down with communication coach Frankie Kemp, who trained as an actor before she started coaching leaders. Frankie's core teaching: real executive presence isn't performing a role — it's expanding the range of who you already are. She unpacks the specific words that erode your authority, the three moves that buy you time when you're caught off guard, and simple structures for delivering updates that build trust instead of eroding it.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Replace the words that build failure into your message before you deliver it — swap "try" and "hope" for language that lands with real authority
    • Buy yourself time when a senior leader catches you off guard, using three specific moves that beat filler words and apologies every time
    • Structure any update — even one where you don't have the full picture — using two simple frameworks that build trust faster than pretending to be in control

If you've ever left a hallway conversation or team update replaying what you should have said, this one's for you. Hit play now.

  9. #82 — The One-Over-N Rule: How Introverts Reclaim Meeting Airtime

    Season 2, Episode 82

    Show notes

Ever been the smartest person in the room — and still watched the promotion go to the person who talked better?

Most introverted leaders have been told the same thing their whole careers: speak up more, be louder, project confidence. It's the most common — and least useful — advice you'll ever hear. Because the real ceiling isn't your volume. It's the lack of a repeatable system for making your judgment and expertise visible in the rooms where decisions get made.

Sebastien Page, author of The Psychology of Leadership and a longtime senior executive in the financial industry, built his career by pairing deep analytical work with clear, confident communication — and rising to the top as an introvert. In this conversation, he shares the specific tools he uses to run meetings, resolve disagreements, and lead with quiet authority.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Apply the one-over-N rule and the pivot method to reclaim your fair share of meeting airtime — and stop getting steamrolled by louder voices
    • Use strategic patience as a leadership edge — including the one question Sebastien asks before every major decision to preserve optionality
    • Pair deep expertise with clear communication (the one-two punch) so your work stops being invisible and starts driving promotions

If you're an introverted professional who's tired of watching louder colleagues get credit for weaker ideas, hit play now — this episode gives you the exact scripts and frameworks to change that.

  10. #81 — Authentic Leadership for Introverts: Stop Copying Extroverts

    Season 2, Episode 81

    Show notes

Have you ever watched a charismatic colleague hold court in a meeting and thought, "That's what people want in a leader — and that's not me"?

Most introverted professionals spend years trying to force themselves into an extroverted leadership mold. It builds a slow, invisible strain — and it catches up to you. The problem isn't that you're too quiet. It's that you've never done the honest work of figuring out how you actually lead.

Dr. Vance Cooper is a leadership consultant with a PhD in corporate leadership. He teaches that authentic leadership isn't a style to copy — it's the result of knowing yourself well enough to lead from your true strengths. In this conversation, he breaks down the self-discovery process that lets quiet professionals stop performing and start leading in a way that actually holds up.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Recognize why copying charismatic leaders backfires — and how to identify the specific way you already influence people
    • Build leadership authority without a title by leading a process, asking better questions, or stepping into a gap no one else is filling
    • Get your vision out of your head and onto paper, then reverse-engineer it into a daily routine that actually compounds

Hit play now to hear the full conversation — and then go take one honest look at how you're actually leading.

  11. #80 — Mindfulness at Work: Quiet Leadership Under Fire | Lindsey Cameron

    Season 2, Episode 80

    Show notes

Have you ever finished a day of back-to-back meetings and realized you spent the whole thing reacting — never quite present, never quite yourself, just running on fumes by mid-afternoon?

For introverted leaders, this isn't a scheduling problem. It's an energy management problem. You're missing the gap between stimulus and response — the exact moment where quiet authority lives.

In this episode, Greg sits down with Lindsey Cameron — management professor at Wharton, longtime meditator, and a researcher whose work spans mindfulness in call centers, algorithm-managed gig work, and contemplative practice in high-stress environments. Lindsey has spent 20+ years developing a practice that started in Baghdad war zones and evolved into the foundation of how she leads, teaches, and shows up in extroverted cultures every day.

In this episode you'll discover: - Build a three-breath practice that turns reactivity into presence — before you answer the call, before you open the door, before you walk into the room - Recognize the shift from mindfulness-as-life-hack to mindfulness-as-the-way-you-work — and why "work is a form of worship" changes how introverts lead - Design a refuge on purpose — small communities, rest groups, and rituals that restore the version of you that shows up to lead

If you're an introverted leader tired of ending the day depleted, this conversation gives you the practical, repeatable tools to lead with quiet authority — without pretending to be someone else.

    Season 2, Episode 79

    Show notes

Have you ever been awake at 2AM, heart pounding, that voice in your head asking whether you're really cut out to lead?

For introverted leaders, that anxiety isn't a single moment — it's a loop. And the more you try to control the voice, the tighter it grips. Meditation teacher Cara Lai — who's appeared on Dan Harris' 10% Happier — spent years white-knuckling her own social anxiety before discovering that the way through isn't control at all. It's meeting the fear with kindness and compassion.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Recognize why control tightens the anxiety loop — and what to do instead so self-doubt actually loosens its grip
    • Reframe vulnerability as the source of real authority, not a leadership liability
    • Start a meditation practice in eight minutes a day (or shift from doing to receiving while you brush your teeth) with a practical on-ramp for introverts who've never sat before

Have you ever left a meeting replaying the moment you didn't speak up — knowing you had the sharpest take in the room, but by the time you formed the sentence, the conversation had already moved on?

That's the introvert's leadership tax in tech. And it doesn't get fixed by trying to become louder.

Career and communications coach Kacie Bail spent nearly a decade in IT consulting at Accenture and Appian before moving to Chile and relearning how to lead all over again — this time in Spanish. She joins Greg to break down how introverted professionals (and anyone communicating in a second language) can build quiet authority in tech without pretending to be someone they're not.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Use thoughtful questions as your leadership spotlight-shifter — put the other person in the frame while your synthesis and expertise land
    • Start speaking up in one-on-ones first, where the stakes are low and the reps compound before you ever face the all-hands
    • Build unshakeable confidence by collecting evidence — one small action per meeting becomes proof you can point to the next time imposter syndrome flares

Hit play now to hear how quiet leaders in tech actually build influence — without pretending to be someone they're not.

  14. #77 — Public Speaking for Introverts: A 3-Step Framework to Beat Imposter Syndrome

    Season 2, Episode 77

    Show notes

Have you ever prepared for a big talk or meeting, and the second the room turns to you, your throat tightens and a small voice pops up — who am I to be here?

You know the material. You've done the work. But some part of you still whispers it's not safe, you're not ready. This loop is one that many introverted leaders know intimately, and it doesn't get better by forcing your way through it.

My guest today is Salvatore Manzi — a communication coach who literally lost his voice on stage early in his career, and spent the next twenty years figuring out what actually works for introverts who need to speak up. He's back for his second visit ahead of the release of his book Clear and Compelling, and he's walking us through the exact frameworks he uses with top-tier clients for public speaking, imposter syndrome, and executive presence.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Learn why sharing your thinking beats delivering the clean answer — and how introverts build influence by taking people through their reasoning
    • Apply Salvatore's three-step move for imposter syndrome in the moment: name it to tame it, regulate through the breath, and take one small action
    • Practice the HIPP framework (Headline, Insight, Picture, Point) so extemporaneous speaking finally has a spine you can trust

If you've ever felt overlooked because you're not the loudest voice in the room, this conversation will give you the exact tools to speak up with quiet authority. Hit play and listen now.

  15. #76 — Introvert Dating: The Energy Management Rules Nobody Teaches You

    Season 2, Episode 76

    Show notes

Are you exhausted from stacking dates on top of a full work week — and quietly wondering how you'll show up tomorrow?

Modern dating advice tells introverts to go on 100 dates, download three apps, and collect a thousand rejections. But that advice was built for high-volume extroverts. For introverts, it's a fast track to burnout, shame, and dates where you're barely present.

In this episode, dating and sex coach Myisha Battle joins Greg to unpack why introvert dating is really an energy management problem in disguise — and how the same preparation, planning, and self-knowledge that got you promoted at work are the exact skills that make dating sustainable.

In this episode you'll discover: - Build recovery days and a work-to-home buffer that protect your energy before you spend it on dates and relationships - Apply the career skills you already have — preparation, planning, being proactive — to your romantic life instead of treating it as a separate game - Reject the quantity-over-quality trap and date in a way that's quieter, slower, and actually gets you where you want to go

If any of this hit home, hit play now — and if you like what you hear, follow the show wherever you listen so you never miss an episode.

  16. #75 — Stop Freezing in Conflict: Nervous System Tools for Introvert Leaders

    Season 2, Episode 75

    Show notes

Have you ever been in a hard conversation at work — a piece of tough feedback, a heated call, a colleague who steamrolls you — and felt your body just clench, your mind go blank, and your voice disappear?

For quieter, more sensitive, more introverted leaders, that isn't a character flaw. It's your nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do a long time ago — and no amount of forcing confidence will fix it, because it's not a mindset problem. It starts in your body.

Karen Canham is a coach and practitioner in somatics, functional medicine, and nervous system regulation. After years in high-pressure sales, she learned that the solution to freezing, shutting down, or overreacting isn't top-down willpower — it's a body-first practice for staying regulated when it counts.

In this episode you'll discover: - Recognize where you are on the red / yellow / green nervous system spectrum — and how to bring yourself back to center in real time - Use in-the-moment somatic tools (feet on the floor, tactile touch, a gentle ear massage, a slower breath) to regulate before you respond, not after - Protect your system in conflict by pausing without guilt — including the exact language to say when you need five minutes to reset

If you've ever walked away from a hard conversation kicking yourself because you had so much more to say, hit play now and learn how quiet leaders can stay resourced, grounded, and fully themselves in the moments that used to knock them off their game.

  17. #74 — The SNAP Method: Beat Imposter Syndrome as an Introvert

    Season 2, Episode 74

    Show notes

Have you ever walked into a meeting that mattered and heard a voice in your head go, "What the hell are you doing here? You don't belong. They're going to find you out"?

That voice — the inner critic — is the operating engine of imposter syndrome. And if you're an introverted leader trying to get promoted in an extroverted culture, it can feel like that voice runs your career. The usual advice — push through, fake it, speak up more — doesn't work, because the problem isn't the voice. It's your relationship to the voice.

My guest today is Caverly Morgan — meditation teacher, founder of Peace in Schools, and author of The Heart of Who We Are. She spent eight years in a Zen monastery learning how to face down the inner critic, and she's here to teach the SNAP method: a concrete four-step practice for quieting imposter syndrome without trying to fix yourself.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Recognize why imposter syndrome isn't a personal flaw — it's collective conditioning handed to you by a culture that overlooks quiet leaders
    • Apply the SNAP method (See, Name, Allow, Presence) the next time the inner critic spikes before a meeting, presentation, or hard conversation
    • Move from the backseat to the driver's seat by offering the anxious part of yourself the same compassion you'd offer someone you love

The wiring doesn't disappear — but with practice, it stops running your life. Hit play and listen now.

  18. #73 — Why Preparation Beats Confidence: An Introvert's Antidote to Imposter Syndrome

    Season 2, Episode 73

    Show notes

Have you ever walked into a high-stakes situation — a pitch, a keynote, a presentation to senior leadership — and heard that faint voice whispering, "Who are you to be here?"

That's imposter syndrome. And for introverts, it can be especially loud in exactly the moments you need to perform your best.

In this episode, Greg sits down with Lee Schneider — USC storytelling professor, former TV producer, and veteran of decades in noisy writer's rooms and Hollywood pitch meetings — to unpack the introvert's playbook for showing up with quiet authority in the rooms that scare you most. Lee's thesis is contrarian and clarifying: the antidote to imposter syndrome isn't confidence or charisma. It's preparation, embodiment, and the discipline of giving yourself a container.

In this episode you'll discover: - Build "containers for extroversion" — give yourself a role, a job, or a time limit, and let the container do the heavy lifting your personality doesn't have to - Get off-book before you walk in the room — over-prepare, then embody the material so you can be present instead of reading at the audience - Connect through a genuine story, not a credential list — open with a bold statement and let your introspection (your raw material) carry the rest

If you've ever frozen in a pitch, white-knuckled a keynote, or been steamrolled in a writer's-room-style meeting, hit play now — this is the tactical playbook for walking in prepared, present, and undeniable.

  19. #72 — Quiet Leadership: How to Speak Up Without Becoming Someone Else

    Season 2, Episode 72

    Show notes

Have you ever sat in a meeting with the exact right thing to say — and watched someone else say it 24 hours later?

That gap, between what you know and what you express, is where quiet leadership is built or lost. For the first decade of her corporate career, Kendra Dahlstrom stayed silent out of fear of getting it wrong. Today, after 28 years inside large organizations and as a leadership coach, she teaches introverted professionals how to trust their gut, intervene tactfully, and lead with quiet authority — without forcing themselves to become someone they're not.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Recognize the regret you feel after staying silent as leadership data — and learn how to act on that signal the next time the room moves too fast.
    • Reframe leadership as a set of behaviors (preparation, clarity, deliberateness, follow-through) rather than a personality type — so you can flex into it without losing yourself.
    • Send the email that keeps the conversation open: the exact post-meeting move that turns "I should have said something" into visible, repeatable influence.

If you've ever walked out of a meeting kicking yourself for not speaking up, hit play now — this conversation will change how you show up in your next one.

  20. #71 — Assertive Communication for Introverts: How to Be Heard Without Raising Your Voice — Megan Malone

    Season 2, Episode 71

    Show notes

Why does being heard in meetings feel harder for introverts — and what do the most assertive quiet leaders actually do differently?

Most introverted leaders have been told to "speak up more" their entire careers. It hasn't worked. The real problem isn't volume — it's that the room moves too fast, the louder voices get the airtime, and you walk out wishing you'd said the thing you actually thought. Personality expert Megan Malone has spent her career at Truity helping people use self-awareness, not extroversion, as the foundation for assertive communication. In this conversation, she breaks down the specific moves introverts can use to hold their ground, claim time to think, set boundaries that protect their energy, and have the hard conversations they've been putting off.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Why "let me get back to you" is a leadership move, not a retreat — and how to use it without losing the room
    • How to use personality self-awareness to spot the patterns that keep you silent in meetings (and what to do instead)
    • How to address conflict and set boundaries earlier, using "I" statements that keep the relationship intact

If you've ever left a meeting wishing you'd been more direct, this episode gives you the playbook. Hit play and listen now.
