The Joe McNeil Podcast
The Joe McNeil Podcast is about golf, sports, business, leadership, family, and the stories everyone is talking about.
Joe McNeil and his son Jehu bring two generations and two perspectives to unscripted conversations about what’s happening in golf and sports, along with lessons they’ve learned from business, competition, leadership, and life.
Some weeks, they’re breaking down the biggest stories in golf and sports. Other weeks, they’re sitting down with athletes, entrepreneurs, coaches, and interesting people with stories worth hearing. And sometimes, they’re just arguing about something neither of them expected to talk about.
Expect strong opinions, honest conversations, plenty of laughs, and the occasional disagreement.
If you like golf, sports, business, leadership, and conversations that don’t feel scripted, you’re in the right place.

Episode 40: America's Junior Golf Problem: The Elite Blueprint
Episode 40
Show notes
Are American junior golfers falling behind because of a lack of talent, or because of how we're developing them?
In Episode 40 of The Joe McNeil Podcast, Joe and Jehu McNeil follow up on last week's controversial discussion about international golfers dominating American college golf rosters.
We read your comments from YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, debate taxpayer funding, international recruiting, and the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), and discuss whether American junior golfers are being overlooked.
Then Joe shares his Elite Blueprint for American Junior Golfers, drawing on his experience as a four-time GRAA Top 100 golf instructor, father of seven, and coach of elite junior golfers, including University of Georgia commit Destiny McNeil.
We cover six pillars of developing elite golfers:
• Build the person before the player.
• Create an elite training environment.
• Learn how to win and lose.
• Stop comparing and start developing.
• Become someone people want on their team.
• Prepare for college golf and the LPGA Tour. From nightmare junior golf parents and tournament attitudes to homeschooling, discipline, sibling competition, and developing champions with character, we're challenging how America develops its young golfers.

Episode 39: Are International Golfers Taking Over American College Golf?
Episode 39
Show notes
American college golf is changing, and the numbers are raising some serious questions.
According to new research by Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen, 38% of Division I women's golfers and 28% of men's golfers list international hometowns. In the Big 12, that number jumps to a staggering 68% for women's golf!
But what does this mean for American junior golfers trying to earn a spot on a college roster?
In Episode 39 of The Joe McNeil Podcast, Joe and J break down the international recruiting trends across college golf, including some eye-opening statistics:
• University of Houston: 100% international women's roster
• University of Texas: 78% international women's roster
• Texas Tech: 67% international women's roster
• Iowa State: 100% international women's roster
• Kansas State: 89% international women's rosterThese are publicly funded American universities. Should they be doing more to provide opportunities for American athletes?
Joe also shares his family's firsthand recruiting experience with his daughter Destiny McNeil, one of the top-ranked junior golfers in Texas and a future Georgia Bulldog. You'll hear about a college coach who openly expressed a preference for recruiting international players and why Destiny ultimately found her home at the University of Georgia.
We also discuss proposed legislation that could limit international participation on college athletic rosters, whether taxpayer funding should influence recruiting decisions, and what all of this means for the future of American junior golf.
PLUS, we respond to your heated comments from last week's Good Good controversy, including why some private golf clubs are refusing to welcome the popular YouTube golf group.
And finally, Joe recaps Abby and Destiny's exciting USGA Women's Four-Ball qualifier, where the sisters battled into a playoff and earned first alternate status!

• How Scott developed the DECADE system
• Working with Bryson DeChambeau and Will Zalatoris
• Why Scott was banned from giving college golf seminars

Episode 34: LIV Golf Is Bankrupt. But Was the PGA Tour Ever Morally Superior?
Episode 34
Show notes
LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 after billions in Saudi backing. But the financial collapse raises another question:
Was the PGA Tour ever in a position to claim the moral high ground?
In Episode 34 of The Joe McNeil Podcast, Joe and Jehu dig into LIV Golf, the PGA Tour, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, sponsor relationships, the battle over professional golf, and the double standards that can appear when money and morality collide.
We also get into the LIV timeline, the PGA Tour's suspension of Wesley Bryan, why LIV Duels may have exposed a real opportunity for YouTube golf, and whether there is still room for a legitimate competitor to the PGA Tour.
Then we jump back into last week's amateur golf debate and some of the best comments from Instagram. Should former PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour players be allowed to regain amateur status and compete in elite amateur championships?
We don't expect everyone to agree. That's the point.

Episode 32: The Callaway Conspiracy? Good Good Fallout Gets Even Crazier
Episode 32
Show notes
The Good Good and Callaway controversy just got even crazier. We recorded Episode 32 of The Joe McNeil Podcast earlier today, and literally hours after we finished, the story changed again. Matt Kendrick is reportedly out as CEO of Good Good, Joe Flannery is reportedly out as president, and Nahid Giga is stepping in as interim CEO. And that's only the beginning. Since the controversial Good Good x Callaway ad dropped, Callaway ended its relationship with Good Good, retailers pulled merchandise, Good Good stepped away from its PGA Tour title sponsorship, the 2026 Big Break x Good Good season was shelved, employees lost their jobs, Garrett Clark responded, and Hunter Mahan weighed in on whether the backlash went too far. Then we followed the money. Callaway authorized a $200 million stock repurchase program earlier this year. Through June 30, the company reported approximately $84 million in share repurchases, with roughly $120 million of authorization remaining. Does that prove some giant conspiracy? No. We have zero evidence of that. But the numbers are real, the timing is interesting, and we're putting on the tinfoil hats. Jehu and I also get into the impact YouTube golf has had on the traditional game, the people affected by the cancellation of Big Break, and we respond to your comments from Episode 31. Episode 31: Callaway Apologized for THIS? The Good Good Golf Controversy
Episode 31
Show notes
The internet is outraged again, and this time Good Good Golf and Callaway are at the center of it.
In Episode 31 of The Joe McNeil Podcast, Jehu and I break down the controversial Good Good and Callaway driver video, Callaway's public apology, Golf Galaxy's response, and the bigger question: when did a comedy skit become something that requires corporate investigations and public apologies?
We get into cancel culture, corporate responsibility, "concept creep," the pressure companies face when social media outrage takes over, and where the line should be between genuinely harmful behavior and comedy.
We also discuss the broader cultural conversation surrounding domestic violence, media reactions, and why serious issues deserve to be treated seriously rather than being diluted by labeling everything the same way.

Episode 30: MEN DON’T BELONG IN WOMEN’S SPORTS. PERIOD.
Episode 30
Show notes
Why do women’s sports exist as a separate competitive category?
In Episode 30 of The Joe McNeil Podcast, Joe and Jehu tackle one of the most controversial issues in sports: men competing in women’s athletics.
For Joe, this one is personal. As the father of three daughters, including an elite junior golfer pursuing the highest levels of the game, he believes women deserve a fair and protected competitive category.
We talk about the biological differences between male and female athletes, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team scrimmaging an FC Dallas boys academy team, Sarah Fuller kicking for Vanderbilt, Annika Sörenstam competing on the PGA Tour, Hailey Davidson attempting to qualify in women’s professional golf, Lia Thomas in NCAA swimming, Caitlin Clark, the WNBA, and where women’s sports go from here.
We also ask a bigger question: Why have separate men’s and women’s leagues in the first place if we’re unwilling to defend the distinction?
Plus, before we get into the main topic, we celebrate reaching Episode 30, talk NFL football, social media trolls, and why I decided to quit sports gambling.
Agree or disagree, jump into the comments. I especially want to hear from other girl dads:
What should we be doing to protect the future of women’s sports?

Episode 28: Round 1 Heartbreak at the U.S. Women's AM, Social Media Hate & Why I Started a Podcast
Episode 28
Show notes
One hole doesn't define a golfer.
In Episode 28 of The Joe McNeil Podcast, I recap Round 1 of the U.S. Women's Amateur at The Honors Course in Tennessee after Destiny's 79. Despite hitting 14 greens and striking the ball extremely well, one difficult finishing hole changed the scorecard.
The tournament isn't over yet. We break down what went right, what can improve, and what it'll take heading into Round 2.
I also discuss:
• The reality of caddying for your daughter in a USGA championship
• Dealing with criticism and hate comments on social media
• Why I believe instant replay has changed sports
• What people really mean when they say "stay in your lane"
• Why I started The Joe McNeil Podcast
• Parenting, homeschooling, and traveling with a large family
• LIV Golf, YouTube Golf, Brad Dalke, and moreThanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe, leave a comment, and let me know what topics you'd like to hear in future episodes.
