Adult Tantrums & Sarah Jessica Parker: Sex and the City Nostalgia | The Midlifers
Season 3, Episode 41
Show notes
Have you ever thrown a tantrum as a fully grown adult? We have… and some of these stories are genuinely embarrassing. Welcome back to The Midlifers, where we’re not self-help, but more help yourself to a smorgasbord of nostalgia, laughter and a deep dive into the past.
This week, we’re confessing our most spectacular adult meltdowns - from rage cleaning and throwing things at our husbands to smashing a vase at work, storming out of a bar and getting irrationally angry over a fork in our lunch. We chat about why we lose our cool, the shame of having a public tanty, and whether our family homes are the safest places to let it all out. Plus, celebrity tantrums, including Will Smith’s infamous Oscars slap.
Then it’s time for our Deep Dive on Sarah Jessica Parker! From Footloose and Girls Just Want to Have Fun to Hocus Pocus and Sex and the City, we revisit her career, Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion legacy, her childhood on Broadway, the Kim Cattrall feud, and why the internet needs to give women a break when it comes to ageing.
We also chat about a spooky ballet date night, the addictive nature of our phones, and the importance of actually being present in the moment.
Join us for another episode of midlife memories, questionable behaviour and a whole lot of laughs.

Halloween Special 🎃 Best Scary Movie Villains & 90s Horror Nostalgia | The Midlifers
Season 3, Episode 40
Show notes
🎃 It’s our Halloween Special, Midlifers! And we’ve got creepy childhood memories, iconic horror villains and enough nostalgia to make you want to sleep with the light on.
This week, Mez and Fonz kick things off with Fonz’s real-life Final Destination moment, chat Halloween decorations and trick-or-treating, and revisit two familiar faces in Where Are They Now? - Devon Sawa, the 90s heartthrob who became a horror regular, and Fairuza Balk, the unforgettable Nancy from The Craft. From creepy childhood films like Return to Oz to her unexpected life beyond Hollywood, Fairuza’s story has a few surprises.
Then it’s time for Besties: Best Scary Movie Villains! Think Ghostface, Pennywise, Hannibal Lecter, Norman Bates, Jigsaw and Pinhead - alongside a few questionable choices from Fonz that may have completely missed the brief. We also revisit the villains that haunted our childhoods, debate what actually makes something creepy, and discover that paper mâché faces might be the stuff of nightmares.
It's a Halloween horror show with a few plot twists, plenty of laughs and the usual midlife brain fog.
👻 Follow The Midlifers so you never miss an episode. New episodes drop every Tuesday, with bonus guest episodes throughout the month.

Grease vs Footloose: Which Old School Dance Movie Did It Better? | The Midlifers
Season 3, Episode 39
Show notes
Were you Team Grease or Team Footloose? 🎬
This week on The Midlifers Podcast, we're settling the ultimate 80s movie debate: Grease vs Footloose! From John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John's iconic performances to Kevin Bacon's legendary dance moves, we're revisiting the songs, scenes, questionable fashion and storylines that made these classic movies unforgettable. Which soundtrack wins? Which dance scenes still give us goosebumps? And why on earth does a car fly into the sky at the end of Grease?!
Before the movie battle, we're talking about something that's making us feel very old: baby names that have fallen out of fashion. Would you call your newborn Gary, Barry, Joan or Ethel? We reminisce about the Rebeccas and Michelles who filled our school classrooms in the 80’s, debate which names belong to naughty kids, and wonder whether some of these old-school names will make a comeback.
Plus, Fonz shares the surprising story of her 45-year-old baby tooth! We also chat about teenagers discovering the joy of being offline and why a little boredom might be exactly what we all need.
Join Mez and Fonz for another episode full of 80s nostalgia, Gen X memories, classic movie trivia, ridiculous debates and plenty of midlife laughs. Nicole Kidman & When Good Neighbors Become Good Friends I Aussie Midlife Podcast
Season 3, Episode 37
Show notes
This week on The Midlifers, we're talking about the unspoken rules of being a good neighbour - and, more importantly, how NOT to be a dick to the people living next door!
From noisy parties and late-night vacuuming to borrowing your neighbor's bin, passive-aggressive notes, and the neighbourhood ‘Mrs. Mangle’ who somehow knows EVERYTHING… we're asking: what actually makes a good neighbour? And when does being neighbourly cross the line into being a total dick?
Then we're taking a deep dive into one of Australia's biggest stars - the incredibly talented and endlessly fascinating Nicole Kidman. From BMX Bandits and Days of Thunder to Moulin Rouge! and her more recent television success, we look back at the career, relationships and reinventions of this Australian icon.
Plus, we chat about international travel anxiety, airport arrival times and the ongoing battle between the person who wants to be three hours early and the person who thinks everything will "be right."
It's another episode packed with nostalgia, laughs, 90s memories and plenty of midlife observations.

We Thought Viennetta Was for Rich People I Nostalgic Comedy Podcast
Season 3, Episode 36
Show notes
Remember when having a Viennetta in the freezer basically meant your family had made it? Or when someone having the full set of encyclopaedias or an ice dispenser in the fridge was the height of luxury?
This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz take a hilarious trip down memory lane as they revisit all the things we thought were incredibly fancy as kids in our ‘Do You Remember’ segment. What did you think was fancy as a kid of the 80s?
Before that, it’s time for ‘Rant or Rave’, where we tackle the news. From growing up with Peter Hitchener and Sandra Sully delivering the nightly headlines, to breaking news alerts, doom scrolling, sensationalism, biased reporting and why the weather report still feels strangely comforting.
Plus, we chat about YouTube creators being recognised by the National Film and Sound Archive, our very late discovery that using laptops for podcast notes is much easier than handwriting everything, and Mez’s slightly concerning obsession with hoof-cleaning videos.
If you love 90s nostalgia, 80s and 90s childhood memories, Australian pop culture, funny podcasts and talking midlife shenanigans with your mate, this episode is for you.

CFMs, Crocs & Career Changes: Welcome to Midlife 😂
Season 3, Episode 35
Show notes
What do Samuel L. Jackson, Julia Child, Colonel Sanders and Vera Wang have in common?
They all found major success after the age of 40!
This week on The Midlifers, we're talking about why turning 40 doesn't mean your best years are behind you. In fact, for many famous people, it was only the beginning.
We share the stories of people including Eric Yuan, who founded Zoom at 41, Colonel Sanders, whose KFC success came after 60, Kris Jenner, who helped launch Keeping Up With the Kardashians in her 50s - but did she also help set up the infamous Kim K tape?? We ponder this possibility.
And it gets us thinking: is midlife actually a crisis… or is it a midlife awakening?
Then we take a very different trip down memory lane with our Then & Now: Shoes segment.
We're revisiting the iconic shoes we wore in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s — jelly sandals, Converse, Doc Martens, Mary Janes, knee-high boots and those ridiculously pointy shoes that made our feet look like they'd been trapped in a Roald Dahl movie.
We talk about the return of 90s fashion, why our feet seem to have changed shape, the joy of comfortable shoes, our teenage shoe obsessions, and the very important question: Are Crocs ever going away? Mez really, really hopes they will!!
Plus, scary clowns, terrified children, Mr Bean nightmares, Halloween displays and plenty of the usual midlife chaos.
It's nostalgia, fashion, career inspiration and a reminder that it's never too late to reinvent yourself.
Listen, follow and tell us: What shoes did you wear in the 80s and 90s that you would NEVER wear now?

Hot Pants, Heart-throbs & Iconic Music Videos: The 2000s Were Something Else
Season 3, Episode 34
Show notes
The 2000s gave us some seriously unforgettable music videos - and we're going back to revisit the best of them!
This week on The Midlifers Podcast, we're talking about the music videos that defined the 2000s in our Besties segment, from Britney Spears' iconic red leather jumpsuit in Oops!... I Did It Again to Beyoncé's legendary Single Ladies, Kylie Minogue's tiny gold hot pants in Spinning Around and Justin Timberlake’s What Goes Around…Comes Around.
And because it's The Midlifers, we're not just talking about the songs - we're talking about the fashion, the choreography, the ridiculous outfits, the memories and what it was actually like to experience these clips when they were released.
Plus, it's time for another Where Are They Now?
We find out what happened to Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump, whose career has gone well beyond the band and into composing and writing music for kids shows.
And then there's Freddie Prinze Jr. - the 90s/2000s heartthrob from She's All That, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scooby-Doo. But what happened after Hollywood heartthrob status?
So dust off your CDs, get ready to dance like nobody's watching and prepare for some serious 2000s nostalgia.
And yes... we will absolutely be discussing the Beyoncé dance.
Listen, follow and tell us: What's the one 2000s music video you could watch over and over again?

The Craft vs Practical Magic: Which 90s Witchy Classic Did It Better?
Season 3, Episode 33
Show notes
It's time to grab your broomsticks, Midlifers! 🧙♀️
This week we're getting seriously witchy as we put two iconic 90s movies head-to-head in our latest Who Did It Better Battle: The Craft vs Practical Magic.
We're taking a nostalgic trip back to the 90s to revisit the fashion, friendships, witches, magic and unforgettable moments that made both movies cult classics. From Neve Campbell, Fairuza Balk and the teenage coven of The Craft to Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman's sisterly magic in Practical Magic, we're asking the ultimate question: which movie did it better?
And there's a twist… because the movie we would have chosen in our teens isn't necessarily the one we'd choose now! As two women firmly in midlife, our perspective on these movies has definitely changed.
We're also talking burgers — from Macca's childhood memories and the legendary "two all-beef patties" jingle to sliders, pulled brisket, fancy $29 cheeseburgers and the question: how the hell are burgers so expensive now?!
Plus, we chat about growing up with your best friend's family, older-brother crushes, Gen X makeup habits and the things that somehow make more sense when you're in your 40s and 50s.
And with the highly anticipated Practical Magic sequel on the horizon, there's never been a better time to revisit the original and decide whether the magic still holds up.
It's nostalgia, friendship, 90s movies, food and plenty of laughs - basically everything you'd expect from The Midlifers.
Listen, follow and let us know: Team The Craft or Team Practical Magic?

Then & Now: Whatever Happened to Family Get-Togethers?
Season 3, Episode 32
Show notes
Remember when family visits were basically a weekly event?
In this episode of The Midlifers, we're taking a nostalgic trip back to the 80s and 90s and asking: whatever happened to extended family get-togethers?
We reminisce about weekends spent visiting cousins, Sunday dinners at Grandma and Nonna's, random knocks on the door, sleeping over at grandparents' houses, making up dances for the adults, playing games with cousins and being sent off to the park with absolutely ZERO adult supervision.
We also have a LOT to say about gift giving etiquette in our Don’t be a D!ck segment.
Should you open presents in front of the person who gave them to you? Do you have to pretend to like a terrible gift? Is regifting acceptable? What about homemade presents? And what happens when someone gives their teacher lingerie?! 😳
Plus, we're talking grocery shopping, the chores we absolutely hate, gift registries, Macca's memories and the things that make us realise we're officially Midlifers.
It's another big nostalgic trip down memory lane - with plenty of laughs, questionable childhood supervision and a reminder that sometimes the "good old days" really were pretty bloody good.
Listen, follow and let us know: What did you get away with when you were hanging out with your cousins?

Soap Opera Chaos, Group Chat Drama & Victor Newman 🔥 | The Midlifers Podcast
Season 3, Episode 31
Show notes
Remember when daytime TV was basically the most dramatic thing in our lives? Before streaming, before social media and before we had a million group chats pinging our phones, we had Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful!
This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz take a nostalgic trip back to the daytime soap operas we watched growing up - complete with amnesia (so much amnesia!), secret identities, love triangles and evil villains we love to hate.
We revisit some of the most unforgettable characters and storylines, including Stefano DiMera, Marlena Evans, Victor Newman, Cricket, Brooke, Ridge, Stephanie and the unforgettable Sally Spectra. We also uncover some of the absolutely bonkers plots that somehow made it onto daytime television - and yes, we do talk about THAT demonic possession!
And before we dive into the soap opera chaos, we have a very midlife Rant or Rave about group chats. Are WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and endless family, school and sporting chats keeping us connected… or completely exhausting us?
Plus: the joys of voice notes, GIFs, accidentally sending messages to the wrong chat, being left out of a group chat and why Mez takes approximately three business days to respond.
If you grew up watching 80s and 90s TV, stayed home from school and ended up watching daytime soaps with your mum or grandma, this episode is going to unlock some serious memories.
Welcome to The Midlifers - a weekly nostalgia podcast for Gen X and millennial women, filled with 80s and 90s nostalgia, funny stories, midlife chaos, pop culture and plenty of laughs.
What daytime soap opera did you watch growing up? And which character do you still remember? Tell us in the DMs!

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, we're diving into one of Hollywood's most beloved actors - Tom Hanks.
From Big, Forrest Gump, Philadelphia and Turner & Hooch, we look back at the movies that shaped our childhoods and ask what makes Tom Hanks such an enduring star.

Plus:• The return of The Babysitters Club (40th Anniversary Edition!)• Funny midlife moments• Travelling while pretending you're fitter than you are• Parenting teenagers who mumble• Why Gen X & millennial women refuse to fade into the background
