The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast

My dear friend Douglas Batchelor of the legendary What Magic is This?'Podcastjoined me to discuss his explorations with magic, a poltergeist-like attack and how the presence of a goblin arose out of his childhood relationship with the natural world.

While experimenting with magic as an adult provided wellbeing and a sense of a homecoming, later experiences taught Douglas a great deal about the importance of simplicity and location in ritual.

I particularly appreciated our discussion around the potency of the imaginative play.

Such a beautiful conversation! Thank you so much Douglas

As mentioned on our chat,https://www.patreon.com/cw/whatmagicisthisThe What Magic is This?Patreon is one of the finest communities around and Douglas' bonuses (I have to admit) put us all to shame! They are so well-researched and beautifully crafted.

If you're not already a listener of What Magic is This?Podcastthen you are in for an absolute treat with Douglas' episodes and back catalogue PLUS the FAIRY SPECIALS episodes:

Louise shares her experience of feeling 'called' to enter a circle of trees, with an acquaintance and their subsequent sensation of dancing with unseen beings. Some time previous at the same location she described a strange occurrence of hearing rhythmic drumming and disembodied voices.

Louise shares her life changing kundalini experience which was followed by a serious accident. Her resulting spinal injuries resulted in her use of a wheelchair during a long recovery period. We talk about how difficult that was for her and the potentially associated phenomena which arose in that period of time.

We also chat about her relationship with nature and how that has shifted since the accident towards exploring her spiritual abilities, particularly through mediumship.

Cobweb, a member of our Patreon group, shares the fascinating story of his interactions with fairy beings at Weardale Valley in County Durham, over a long period of time which ultimately helped to right a wrong. This is a very tender share of an important undertaking.

Thanks to Cobweb for sharing his story in such detail together with the locations that these experiences took place. Really enjoyed seeing Cobweb’s artwork too.

Mike quotes (with such charm!🙏) :

The Lake Isle of Innisfree by William Butler Yeats

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,

And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;

Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,

And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,

Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;

There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,

And evening full of the linnet’s wings.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day

I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;

While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,

I hear it in the deep heart’s core.

Between the ages of 7 and 9, Mark watched as an ancient swarthy green hand reached around his bedroom door. We discuss the strange connection with The Green Children of Woolpit and how he has recently begun to view the experience from a different perspective.

In the same bedroom, a creature would appear in his patterned curtains. It had a ghoulish face and terrified him. It’s name was ‘You'. After a time, ‘You' told Mark it was going away and that he mustn't tell anyone about it. Mark never did talk about it until now.

In the full length bonus episode, over on PatreonMark shares some other experiences which took place on the same piece of land which had belonged to several generations of his family. Numerous family members had seen phantom visions of loved ones who had either died or were in another location when the vision took place.

It was a real privilege to chat with Mark and hear his stories. He’s a much beloved member of our Patreon group and has treated us to a few of his own songs over the months. We end with one of his latest songs - ‘Summer Solstice’ - it really moves me. What a talent!

We hear how symbolist artist Sean Jefferson, was called into painting via an Enochian magic ritual and the unfolding of his innate Spiritualist Mediumship which eventually led to his connection with the Ruralist movement (The Brotherhood of Ruralists).

We take a look at some of Sean's paintings and discuss his relationship with the characters in these images, how the paintings themselves come into form via automatic painting and the range of visceral responses to the images.

Sean shares some personal experiences including a childhood malevolent tree presence, a ‘fetch’ encounter and his ancestral spirit guide, 'Michael Foy' who has inspired his forthcoming book 'The Alchymical Garden of Michael Foy'

⚡️ On the 2 hour, F U L L L E N G T H E P I S O D E for full members on TMFSP Patreon, Sean describes:

• Open circle mediumship and how he works with trance states
• How he makes space for the work to flow through him
• His relationship with the paintings during and after their creation.
• A UFO experience and we discuss what it may have been linked to
• The painting he had to destroy
• What happened when a spirit guide became more intrusive

Sean is giving a free talk on the visionary art of nineteenth century painter, Richard Dadd at Messums Gallery, St James London on Wednesday 29th July:

"Jefferson will reflect on the role of imagination, myth, and inner vision in artistic creation, offering insights into how artists translate intangible experiences into visual form.

Sean will also draw on his own practice, using works-in-progress images to consider how visionary imagery is conceived, built, and brought into being.

Through close looking and thoughtful discussion, the talk will open up the intricate details of Dadd’s work, inviting audiences to consider their layered meanings and enduring fascination.

This promises to be a rich and engaging evening for anyone interested in art, symbolism, and the creative process."

I discuss the Marian apparitions of Garabandal with Brother Richard. The 18th June 2026 marks 65 years since the apparition of Archangel Michael appeared to four girls aged between 10 and 12 and told them that the Blessed Virgin Mary would visit them. On 2nd July she appeared to the girls and for the following five years, mulititudes of Marian visitations were reported drawing thousands of people to the small hamlet in northern Spain where they witnessed the girls in ecstatic trance.

My recent chat with Jordan E. Petersen on the excellent Gods, Ghosts and UFOs Podcast. Follow them on substack: https://ggupodcast.substack.com/

What’s Jo’s Favorite Fairy Sighting?

"This week, Jordan finally gets to ask the host of the singular Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast the most annoying question he can come up with, and she does not disappoint.

Jo Hickey-Hall has been collecting these stories for years. And the one she leads with is hers: a stick being made of literal sticks, running down a beach in Jersey with a gait so strange it made everyone watching laugh. Years later, a man in northeast England describes seeing almost exactly the same thing.

We talk about why these things, these beings, whatever they are, resist being accurately described or depicted. They’re so vivid in the moment, but as soon as you start to try to put words on them, they seem to slip away.

But we’re doing our best. You can come judge for yourself.

Part two maybe? (with Mal (and Tom???))

And in the epilogue…on Gods, Ghosts and UFOs

•

A disembodied head in a kitchen window

Why you can’t tear down a house to make a haunting go away

•

How UFOs are seen so often over a Neolithic burial chamber that locals don’t bother to look up anymore

Dr. Vic Shane discusses his lifelong experiences with out-of-body travel and encounters with dark entities.

In the full length version on Patreon we discuss the influence of Joseph Campbell’s concept of The Hero’s Journey and Vic shares two extraordinary personal gnostic experiences involving deep realisations. He describes how one final significant confrontation with a large dark entity was transformed by love and recognition that we are all one.

Some years ago, Anna Vigurs had an extraordinary experience in the Forest of Dean which subsequently marked a downturn in her health. As a child, during a long, but thankfully temporary period of disability, she had grown familiar with out-of-body experiences. Her ability to slip into altered states has remained throughout her life.

Anna describes her trip into another realm on Summer Solstice where she met a group of beings and experienced a shift in time. We hear about her ghost encounter and a little man who was seen in her shared Uni house.

We discuss Anna's doll-birthing practice and her upcoming exhibition with Justin James Reed at 'Lights in the Sky' Galleryin Richmond, Virginia which opens this Summer Solstice.

On the Patreon group🪆📷 We’ll be joining Anna Vigurs and Justin James Reed for an exclusive early release tour of the Lights in the Sky exhibition

In 1970, Ian was staying on Lismore Island near Oban in the Western Highlands of Scotland with two friends, when orbs passed through a window and entered the room. Humanoid beings inside the orbs seemed to begin engaging with them and his life was changed ever after.

Ian describes his life as a Sufi and his recent find of a fairy ring near his home in County Cork, Ireland.
