Clayface Box Office: Did We Call It?: DC Round Up
Show notes
Clayface reactions are in, and the word is body horror that doesn't hold back. Pablo and Brian break down what the reactions say, why the "anti-hero" label was a Sony-sized mistake, and why reviews matter more for a comic book horror film than for normal horror.
Then the business side: James Gunn and Peter Safran's premiere quotes about David Ellison inviting them to "continue," why that isn't a contract, and why Brian thinks Man of Tomorrow is Gunn's last stand — a Justice League movie in all but name. Plus Gunn's one-word answer on the DCU Batman, Ben Affleck calling Justice League the low point of his career and Kevin Feige "a kind of genius," and what's still alive at DC: James Mangold's Swamp Thing and the Mister Miracle animated series.

Steven Soderbergh Takes Over The Batman Part II DC Round Up
Show notes
DC Round Up — The NerdGen Report
Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to finish principal photography on The Batman Part II. Matt Reeves is attending to an ongoing family matter and won't be on set while Soderbergh shoots, but the studio says the two will stay in contact and Reeves will resume control of post-production when he's ready. Pablo and Brian break down the official statements from DC Studios, Soderbergh and Reeves, and what they reveal about the studio's plan A and plan B.
First question: did Soderbergh really initiate contact, as the statement suggests? The two have never worked together, and Brian suspects the studio put out feelers around Hollywood. Then why the job fits Soderbergh right now: a director without a big-budget hit in years, whose recent spy thriller Black Bag was good but didn't make money, and who loves riffing on other filmmakers' work, like his black-and-white, dialogue-free recut of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
We compare this to Zack Snyder's exit from Justice League and to Rogue One, where Gareth Edwards took the film most of the way and Tony Gilroy brought it home. Brian's prediction: if this collaboration works, Soderbergh directs The Batman Part III and Reeves writes and produces. Pablo thinks Soderbergh's speed could rub off on Reeves, and Brian points out that Reeves delivered Dawn (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) on a quick schedule, so what changed on Batman?
Pablo also wishes he could sit in on the conversations between the two directors, and Brian weighs Soderbergh's Ocean's and Traffic years against his last decade at the box office. Also: the rumors about James Gunn's role in the delay, a Val Kilmer shout-out, The Penguin, and the selfish sadness of maybe never seeing 100% of Reeves' vision.
Does Soderbergh stepping in change your expectations? Let us know.

Why Skydance's Cold Analytics Will End The Gunnverse
Show notes
In this episode of DC RoundUp (Part 2), Pablo and Brian Schultz deliver an essential breakdown of the official Skydance and Warner Bros merger closure[2][22]. We separate confirmed corporate facts from internet speculation, outlining the exact future of DC Studios under David Ellison and newly appointed co-CEO Ynon Kreiz[3]. While James Gunn and Peter Safran remain in their roles today, their existing contracts expire in 2027 following Man of Tomorrow without a long-term extension in place[3].
We also analyze key clues from Skydance's internal town hall sizzle reel, including heavy Christopher Nolan Batman footage, the exclusion of DCEU history, and DC Studios remaining an independent label reporting directly to the C-suite[7]. Furthermore, we unpack why Skydance fired Warner Bros film chiefs Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdi despite their record-breaking 2026 box office run, exposing how Skydance's cold, data-driven analytics model demands immediate $1 billion commercial hits to manage an $80 billion debt load[4]. Finally, we examine Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay returning to Transformers, potential Elseworlds AI licensing, and who could ultimately take over DC Studios[28].

Show notes

Next, we deliver a complete post-mortem on the Lanterns Season 1 finale on HBO.[2][27] We dissect why John Stewart's rogue non-traditional lantern arc and cheap visual effects disappointed core comic purists[10], even as the show pulled solid casual streaming numbers between 500M and 600M minutes.[11] Then we tackle the shocking production shutdown on The Batman Part II after Matt Reeves stepped away for personal family matters[6][30], exploring whether Andy Serkis could step in to finish the film.[7][25] Finally, we react to James Gunn's fiery viral defense of Clayface[17][31], debunk Adria Arjona Wonder Woman rumors[18][32], and grade every DCU project commercially—revealing why the universe has zero 'A' hits and multiple 'F' grades so far.[4]

Why Did Ritchson Say no to Batman?!
Show notes
Lanterns' ratings have stalled. HBO's Green Lantern series is pulling roughly 500 million viewing minutes a week on Nielsen, just around or outside the top 10, while Reacher runs 1 to 1.5 billion and Lioness 800 to 900 million. This week, Pablo and Brian recap Lanterns episodes 5 and 6, explain why the mystery has plateaued, and ask whether a season two is really a given with the merger closing and key contracts expiring next year.
The Lanterns discussion covers what worked, Sinestro's escape, the action in town, Kelly Macdonald's consistency, and what didn't: the ring's convenient 5% charge, a Sinestro prison break we were told about instead of shown, and a Green Lantern who still hasn't built anything with his ring. Brian ranks Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan number one by a mile; Pablo goes with Aaron Pierre. Then James Gunn's response to fans upset about Hal Jordan's fate, and why Brian calls the show 'working-ish.'
Next, Paramount settles with the states. Brian predicted a settlement months ago, and now he reads the fine print: a 30-to-32-film theatrical pledge where re-releases can count, a $50 million budget floor for only six or seven films, and a penalty that means a fine and selling Miramax. His prediction: close quietly, play nice, then let contracts, Gunn's and Casey Bloys' included, expire in 2027. Pablo pitches selling DC outright. Brian says you never sell the trophy asset first.
Also: Gunn lowering expectations for Man of Tomorrow, the Dynamic Duo animated film from Swaybox focused on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the report that Alan Ritchson passed on a DCU Batman cameo, Robert Pattinson and Sebastian Stan on The Batman Part II, and the Batman: Knightfall Part Two trailer, plus whether Knightfall deserved a theatrical run.
