The New World Pictures Podcast
The New World Pictures Podcast is dedicated to every movie released by New World Pictures. We talk about the things we loved and the things we hated along with the detailed history of each film's history and production.
Founded by the infamous Roger Corman, New World Pictures was responsible for the greatest genre and exploitation films of the 1970's and 1980's. Remember all those movies that lived proudly in the Action, Horror, Comedy and Sci-Fi isles of the video store? Titles like Death Race 2000, Hellraiser, Heathers and Piranha. They were all made by New World Pictures.
In addition to talking about the films themselves, we talk with the Writers, Producers and Directors who worked with New World Pictures.

Ep. 186: City of Shadows featuring Dirk Marshall
Show notes
We continue #WHATTHEFoctober with a gem from the New World Video library: 1987's CITY OF SHADOWS! This Canadian thriller about cops, family secrets, and bribing people with pizza comes from writer/directors David Mitchell and Damian Lee, whose production company Rose & Ruby Productions was responsible for another New World Video gem, RENO AND THE DOC, and WATCHERS for Concorde Pictures, Roger Corman's subsequent company following his sale of New World!
Joining us is returning guest Dirk Marshall from the VH US podcast (https://www.vh-us.com/), who found CITY OF SHADOWS back in the day in his family's video store. This movie was a favorite of Dirk and his friends and it opens up a ton of personal conversations, such as our favorite jackets growing up, which brother between Ryan and Marc is the biggest screw-up, and why blotting your pizza is important. This is a very fun episode which you should listen to while also playing the score from Tangerine Dream in the background! Also, a future Worldie contender for Best Song? You'll have to listen to find out!

Ep. 185: The Electric Grandmother featuring Ryan Verrill
Show notes
Come give Granny a hug this week on #WHATTHEFoctober: where we talk about movies we had NO IDEA New World Pictures made or released. It’s a month packed fresh full of deep cuts and hard to find (and believe) oddities. We kicked the month off with a bang, and this week we share the programmed love that only a robotic grandmother can give in the 1982 TV movie The Electric Grandmother. Distributed by Learning Corporation of America (LCA) under its “A New World Company” branding, this gem was part of New World Pictures’ entertainment division before LCA’s closure in 1990.
Based on Ray Bradbury’s 1969 short story I Sing the Body Electric. The Electric Grandmother originally aired on NBC’s Project Peacock on January 17, 1982, and starred Maureen Stapleton and Edward Herrmann. The story follows a widower who acquires an android-esque grandmother for his children, after the death of their mother. WHATTHEFOC? Our thoughts exactly.
Joining us for this episode is the electric Ryan Verrill, a producer, editor, and founder of The Disc‑Connected podcast. If that isn't impressive enough for you, he is also leading Antenna Releasing as Chief Distribution Officer. Ryan bravely and voluntarily joins us on this wild journey that explores the gang's preference of robotic finger liquids, crunches the numbers on using a kite to do laundry, and ponders exactly what time, year, and location this wild tv movie is actually set in. Helicopters and old timey cars? The truth will electrify you.

Ep. 184: Catastrophe
Show notes
Come, one and all, to #WHATTHEFoctober: where we talk about movies we had NO IDEA New World Pictures made. It's a month of deep cuts and B-sides for those of you that remember vinyl records. We're starting off with a bang, or lava flow, or air disaster, or tornado with 1977's CATASTROPHE. This little hidden gem is a documentary that explores some of history’s most devastating real-life disasters, from the Hindenburg explosion to Hurricane Camille and the sinking of the Andrea Doria. So. Much. Fun.
Written and directed by Larry Savadove, the film features narration by William Conrad (CANNON, MOONSHINE COUNTY EXPRESS). Packed with harrowing archival footage, CATASTROPHE delivers a wild glimpse into humanity’s darkest moments and will make you say "hip, hip, hooray" that you're still alive.
We break down each of the disaster segments and learn that Erica does not have a good sense on when a disaster warning has graduated to a disaster emergency. Ryan doesn't understand Nascar, Formula 1 or auto racing, in general. Marc knows too much about Nascar - a sport he doesn't actually enjoy. None of your hosts at the New World Pictures Podcast like watching real people die. Sorry VS, we aren't buying copies of Faces of Death.

Ep. 183: The Student Nurses featuring Casey Scott
Show notes
To close out #SEXtember FORE! (play), we're going back to the beginning of New World Pictures' history with 1970's THE STUDENT NURSES, one of the studio's earliest releases! Directed and co-written by Stephanie Rothman, the film set the template for many New World films to follow! The film follows four student nurses who keep themselves busy not being students and not nursing - okay, two of them, so, half- but instead spend their time falling in love, joining a revolution, having sex on a beach, and learning that "terminal" isn't just a part of an airport!
Joining us to discuss this sexploitation classic is Casey Scott, a film historian and co-host of The Sin Syndicate podcast, who fills us in on the cast: Elaine Giftos as Sharon, Karen Carlson as Phred, Brioni Farrell as Lynn, and Barbara Leigh as Priscilla, as well as some the cult-tastic locations used in the film! We discuss why doctors are just the worst, which of the nurses's stories moved us and which ones did not, and why a motorcycle could be considered a wingman. Plus, we delve into the film's production history, Roger Corman's thoughts, and so much more!
Don't miss this episode, because it will be another year before we get back to #SEXtember!

Ep. 182: Fly Me
Show notes
We continue #SEXtember FORE: Play with an early entry in the Ciro Santiago New World Pictures canon: 1973's FLY ME! It's a film about three nurses, er, sorry, teachers, nope, flight attendants, that's it, working a flight from Los Angeles to Hong Kong, each of whom have their own adventure. Toby is the new flight attendant and she's really learning the ropes, but, not to worry, her mom is along for the ride to help her make sensible choices in local cuisine, and men!
Andrea arrives in Hong Kong to find out that she's lost her apartment AND her boyfriend! She'll need every ounce of her martial arts skills to fin him!
Then there's Sherry, horny but loveable Sherry, who's on a mission to hook up with every guy she meets! Or is that her mission? Or does she have something more nefarious at work?
Long-time Roger Corman collaborator Ciro Santiago makes his New World directorial debut here, but not without some help from a few New World directors like Jonathan Demme (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS) and Curtis Hanson (L.A. CONFIDENTIAL)! We go into what they worked and why they they were asked to do so, along with other insights into the movie, such as the inspiration behind the movie's title!
Also in this episode, we discuss moms and how they could improve action films. Trult, a nagging mother could help any film, a point we're sure everyone can agree on! Plus, what would you do if you were naked in a tub with someone you were hoping to get romantic with, and the water started draining out? What would you do? We share our thoughts!
Don't miss out on this sexy romp through the skies (but mostly the ground)! Because it's SEXtember and that means there's sex in the air! Or is that the humidity? Probably the humidity.

Nearly New World: Paradise
Show notes
We continue #SEXtember: FORE-play!! with a BLUE LAGOON rip-off - 1982's PARADISE. Like the BLUE LAGOON, PARADISE spends a significant amount of time exploring what happens when scantily-clad young adults are stranded in the desert and discover each other's body parts are super interesting. The real plot of PARADISE, though, is the life and times of Geoffrey - the aging man-servant.
Geoffrey should be retired but, alas, here is... trying to bring Sarah (Phoebe Cates) and David (Willie Aames) to a port so they can both go home to their families. Poor Geoffrey is completely over his skis and he knows it. It's a shame we don't spend more time listening to Geoffrey's inner monologue before he is tragically (and willingly) murdered. Did he give up his life by putting himself in harm's only so he could get away from Sarah and David (probably just David)? We'll never know. Instead, we must tolerate child-like temper tantrums by David while Sarah is infatuated with taking showers more than anyone should living in a desert.
We're also treated to equally amorous Chimpanzees. One of the Chimpanzees is particularly amorous with himself. Think about it. We'll wait.
PARADISE is a very odd movie. On the one hand, it has the silliness of a children's movie including the aforementioned Chimpanzees and plenty of silly music. On the other hand, there is a significant amount of nudity. So, PARADISE is not a great family movie. If you're down for both, then this is the movie for you. Maybe the only movie for you. Ever.
We talk about how David and Sarah were able to build a professional-grade beach cabin out of... scraps and palm fronds and how they find copious amounts of fruit in a DESERT! They learn to make clothes, tan leather and somehow craft cook wear but (for most of the movie) can't figure out how to use a bow and arrow. Again, this is a kids movie. A very naked kids movie.

Ep. 181: Where Did I Come From?
Show notes
Dear Listeners it's hard to believe but it's that time of year again! That's right #SEXtember is upon us, and we are starting off the month with a BANGER (pun intended) that definitely answers the question; Where Did I Come From?
A 1985 animated educational movie....short film....cartoon....all three... featuring a duck that explains in great animated detail exactly where babies come from and how they are made. Stop reading now if you don't know, and don't want any spoilers!Based on the best selling 1973 children's book...YES you read that right BASED ON THE BOOK....by Peter Mayle, this movie was created to help parents answer their kids questions about where and how they entered this world. We could think of no better way to kick of such a sexy month!
Join the gang as they explore what it must have been like to be an animator on this short film, the stress endured by Blockbuster workers as they navigate which genre this cartoon falls into, and you will have to listen to believe it, Erica reveals something she has never said before in all the years of recording the NWPP. R.J. Kizer Tribute: Death Ring (1992)
Show notes
We were saddened to discover that R.J. Kizer, a longtime editor and director for New World Pictures, passed away earlier this month. We were fortunate to be able to speak with R.J. several times about his incredible and long career, starting with editing 1979's UP FROM THE DEPTHS, 1980's BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, and 1981's GALAXY OF TERROR before moving on to directing the English-language sections of GODZILLA 1985 and co-directing 1988's HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN. R.J. transitioned to sound editing, working on movies like FIRE BIRDS and ARACHNAPHOBIA before getting a chance to finally direct his own feature, 1992's DEATH RING.
The film, a take on THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME, brings huge starpower, well familial starpower, in Mike Norris (son of Chuck), Chad McQueen (son of Steve), and Don Swayze (brother of Patrick), who star as a trio fighting for their lives in a hunt designed by wealthy manhunt organizer played by Billy Drago. R.J. may not have believed us when we told him, but we really enjoyed the movie, as you'll hear in the episode, which is our tribute to R.J.'s memory.
For one, the film took Marc and Ryan back to their San Diego roots, where the infamous Survival of the Fittest competition takes place, a contest Mike Norris easily wins only to become Drago's number one target. As we discuss, we will challenge you on your knowledge of 1980's local San Diego newscasters, the power of Sun-In, and the exact time it takes for chloroform to work its magic. Plus, snake blood!
Thank you to R.J. for an amazing career, we were honored to have met you and been able to discuss so much of your New World history. We'll never forget your incredible stories, sense of humor, and spot-on impression of Roger Corman. It was a singular pleasure to have interviewed you!
R.J. wrote a book! It's all about ADR recording, and there's truly no one better you could learn from, so you should definitely buy it! Go here.

Ep. 180: Saturday the 14th featuring Joseph Scrimshaw
Show notes
We continue #HAHAugust 3: Rule of Threes with a staple of cable television: 1981's SATURDAY THE 14TH, the directorial debut of screenwriter Howard R. Cohen (COVER GIRL MODELS, DEATHSTALKER) and produced by Julie Corman. Joining us inside this monster-filled house is writer/director/editor Joseph Scrimshaw, who also recently made his own directorial debut with the horror/comedy DEAD MEDIA. Or is it a horror/comedy? We discuss! In fact, this episode is a bit of a "two-fer" as we dive into Joseph's new movie as well as SATUDAY THE 14TH! Two for the price of one!
We discuss the performances, which includes real-life couple Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss, as well as the many other stars that are in the movie which appear so quickly you might miss them! We also ask the important questions, like "why is real estate so important to vampires" and "why wasn't SATURDAY THE 14TH included in the 1981 New World Pictures film guide?" Two questions you've been dying to have answered! Well, look no further!

Interview with New World executive Paul Almond (BEYOND THERAPY)
Show notes
We continue #HAHAugest 3: Rule of Threes with former New World Pictures vice president and head of business and legal affairs, Paul Almond! Paul began his long career working for Roger Corman's lawyer Barbara Boyle and then the studio itself where he helped negotiate the deal for Corman's infamous Lumberyard Studio in Venice, California, where New World films like BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS and GALAXY OF TERROR were filmed! Paul's long history with the company leads us to talk about a wide variety of films, including CRIMES AND WHISPERS, THE PRIZE FIGHTER, HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, and PIRANHA! When Corman sold New World to new ownership, Paul stayed on at New World where he was able to enjoy the success of ANGEL, meet Grace Jones during VAMP, and be the executive in charge in Paris while Robert Altman directed BEYOND THERAPY!
You won't want to miss this wide-ranging conversation about New World history, the people, and the films! We also discuss Paul's move away from New World, where he was head of acquisitions for ITC Entertainment before moving on to run production for Live Entertainment, where Paul relays his highs and lows of working for that company. Ep. 179: Beyond Therapy featuring Dirk Marshall
Show notes
It's #HAHAugust III y'all. A time for us to kick up our heels and have a good laugh. We couldn't think of a better way to kick off a month of belly laughs than with 1987's BEYOND THERAPY. Even the name of the movie (and stage play) is funny. It's full of super funny actors too including Julie Hagerty (AIRPLANE!), Jeff Goldblum (TRANSYLVANIA 6-500), and Christopher Guest (WAITING FOR GUFFMAN). It's directed by Robert Altman (NASHVILLE) who showed us Heuy Lewis's dong in SHORT CUTS. NOTE: we talked about this for a second in the episode, but it was cut for time. Sorry.
BEYOND THERAPY is about unbelievable people looking for love with the help of their equally unbelievable therapists in an unbelievable New York setting because the movie was actually shot in Paris. Anyway, it's a stage play that became a movie that everyone on the set thought would be amazing, but, pieced together as a whole, failed to live up to expectations. It's like a Reuben sandwich where corned beef is replaced with bologna. If that doesn't make sense, listen to the episode for additional explanations.
Joining us is returning guest Dirk Marshall from the VH US podcast (https://www.vh-us.com/), who gave BEYOND THERAPY five stars on Letterboxd. We went into this episode looking for a proper explanation. Dirk counter attacked us with a charming and surprisingly entertaining SHREK impression.
We know this episode is a bit on the lengthy side but trust us, it's worth it. Besides talking about the film, BEYOND THERAPY and its stage counterpart, we learn that both Dirk and Ryan have performed scenes from the stage play. Marc and Erica, discuss their upcoming 2 person Zoom rendition of BEYOND THERAPY that will be performed exclusively for job interviews. We talk about Reuben sandwiches and the much-beloved REUBEN REUBEN. Dirk shares his deep admiration for DESIGNING WOMEN And, we highlight an upcoming episode for the GrammerCast.

Interview with editor/director R.J. Kizer (GALAXY OF TERROR)
Show notes
To close out #SciFiJuly: An Infinity of Titles, we going all-out by bringing back editor/director R.J. Kizer, who edited a variety of films for New World Pictures, to talk to us about GALAXY OF TERROR! R.J. was one of film's editors and worked on the most infamous scene in the entire film (hint: there's a worm)! We go truly behind the scenes, as R.J. describes the working conditions for editors on Roger Corman's infamous Lumberyard Studio, and what it was like to edit for Roger Corman and GALAXY OF TERROR director Bruce Clark!
Do we discuss the Infinity of Titles? Of course we do! Do we discuss how R.J. got the film a "R" rating from a "X?" Oh, we do! Plus, R.J. explains how he appeased the request for a "love scene," and, oh yeah, drops a few details about BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS and SPACE RAIDERS! R.J. is full of great stories, as you would know if you heard our episode about GODZILLA 1985 and/or his New World Career! Don't miss out on this conversation with a New World legend!

Ep. 178: Galaxy of Terror featuring Tarik Davis
Show notes
We continue #ScifiJuly: An Infinity of Titles with the inspiration for this month's themed title: 1981's GALAXY OF TERROR! Roger Corman's second foray into science fiction shot at the Lumberyard Studio in Venice California featured an all-star cast and production design from James Cameron, Robert and Dennis Skotak and the rest of the crew Corman assembled for BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, but, this time, Cameron also directs 2nd Unit, in what could be seen as a warm-up to his later ALIENS though it is truly a warm-up to his directorial debut PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING and we'll tell you how!
Joining us for the adventure through space that just so happens to be the perfect vehicle for a corporate training video is actor and filmmaker Tarik Davis, who first joined us for ANDROID back in our early days! Tarik's new film, We're Not in Harlem Anymore, is currently playing in festivals, so keep an eye out and you may be able to see it in your city soon! In the meantime, Tarik explains all the lessons GALAXY OF TERROR has for your company, and there are many! So many lessons! So many surprises!
So join us as we head our special crew discusses the work of another crew - though, let's be honest, we're not here to discuss Cos, because who would - and learn about how you can be your best self! Sometimes it takes a giant, uh, lesson to do so! So grab your crystals, finish up that waterslide ride, and blur your face up as we dive into GALAXY OF TERROR!

Interview with director and VFX artist Ernest Farino (THE TERMINATOR, GALAXY OF TERROR, STEEL AND LACE)
Show notes
We continue #SciFiJuly: An Infinity of Titles with a giant interview with director and visual effects supervisor Ernest Farino! From an early age, Ernest was fascinated by special effects and his love for filmmaking would take him from creating the stop-motion creature in 1978's THE ALIEN FACTOR to Los Angeles and working for Roger Corman at the Venice Lumberyard studio on films like GALAXY OF TERROR and beyond! There, he would meet James Cameron and would work on films like THE TERMINATOR and THE ABYSS! We walk through Ernest's career, which included working on John Carpenter's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and THE THING as well as doing effects and main title sequences for a variety of New World Pictures films from the Corman era to the next ownership group!
We discuss the difficulty of bats in SATURDAY THE 14TH and Sybil Danning's costume in the TV edit of BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, the tricky ending of DEATHSTALKER, having lots of time and no time to work on the title sequences for GODZILLA 1985 and PRETTY SMART, and how Ernest's work on TAG: THE ASSASSINATION GAME may have played a key role in casting for THE TERMINATOR! Also, Ernest explains how he dealt with Arnold Schwarzenegger's biggest, erm, muscle, and how he was able to get away with saying "no" to James Cameron!
Ernest provided us with tons of stories, including about his directorial feature debut, STEEL AND LACE, which NWPPVIPs know is a film we love! Don't miss this wide-ranging and fascinating trip through Ernest's huge career that's filled with behind-the-scenes stories that you won't want to miss!

Nearly New World: Star Slammer
Show notes
Sci-fi July: An Infinity of Titles keeps on rolling with 1986's STAR SLAMMER aka PRISON SHIP aka STAR SLAMMER: PRISON SHIP aka THE ADVENTURES OF TAURA: PRISON SHIP STAR SLAMMER. Directed Fred Olen Ray, STAR SLAMMER (aka PRISON SHIP aka... you get it) blends comedy with sword and sandal movies, women in prison movies, sci-fi movies and girls just want to have fun movies into a taught hour and 26 minutes.
STAR SLAMMER stars Sandy Brook (They Call Me Bruce?) as Taura who is wrongly confined to a prison ship aka STAR SLAMMER (not again). In reality, STAR SLAMMER is little more than a prison-style all-inclusive resort where instead of sitting by the pool, you get pushed around by intimidating staff. You get free food, alcohol, impromptu dance clubs and, the most coveted of experiences, solitary confinement.
We get deep in this episode. Erica asks the question everyone has been asking, "what is the purpose of a thong in space?" We discuss the effects of space travel on perms including whether the bends also have an effect. We discuss the best, bad-ass prison nicknames like "Sleep Apnea Bitch". And we even spend some time talking about Radiohead. Did you know they're big deep sea divers? You will after listening to this episode.
Ultimately, STAR SLAMMER should be a must-eat menu item from Denny's. You hear that, Denny's? This is a free idea you should consider. Get on it before IHOP does. You're welcome.

Ep. 176: Autumn Sonata
Show notes
The time has come, dear listeners. The end of June Gloom 2: Down to Frown. We hope you enjoyed this annual, well, bi-annual -okay, occasional - trip into the dark abyss of the "saddies" released by New World Pictures. And for our closing film, do we have a sad film for you: 1978's AUTUMN SONATA aka HÖSTSONATEN, written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, and starring Ingrid Bergman, Liv Ullmann and Lena Nyman. It's a real Bergman-off, with double your Bergmans for all your crying (and whispering) pleasure!
How did New World get their hands on this? We explain! How well did the Bergmans (not related) get along during filming? We'll tell you! What's the best elixir for get deep into conversation with you mom? You may know already, but we discuss, and imbibe! Was Bergman a "bro," we explore! And do you want stories about piano lessons from our actual life? You just lucked out!
Trust us, 'ol Berg put together a wild movie, and so our episode follows suit, as we discuss the business Bergie should have dived into, delve into Berg Berg's personal life, and hey, are those pizza bites ready yet? Did the timer go off? Are we wrapped for the day or do we have to film more close-ups? Trust us, this is the episode of Bergman you don't want to miss!

Interview Part 2 with director Fritz Kiersch (TUFF TURF, CHILDREN OF THE CORN)
Show notes
A bucket list guest, director Fritz Kiersch, returns with the second half of our conversation that covers his move from the commercial world to the New World (ahem) of features starting with 1984's CHILDREN OF THE CORN and continuing with 1985's TUFF TURF as Fritz continued to deliver success after success for New World Pictures. And because the movies Fritz directed were so well received, he was one of the few directors to get a three picture deal, which would eventually end with 1989's UNDER THE BOARDWALK (and, in our eyes, should have included 1987's WINNERS TAKE ALL).
We put CHILDREN OF THE CORN and TUFF TURF under the microscope and talk about the production of each, including casting, script changes, building a soundtrack, French New Wave, and what happened to the Cornmobile! As you will recall from the first part of our conversation with Fritz, he is as quick-witted and sharp as ever, so you don't want to miss this look back at two classic New World films.
Again, we cannot thank Fritz enough for sitting down with us for such an extended discussion of his career! Don't miss it!

Ep. 175: Nashville Girl featuring Tommy Bechtold
Show notes
June Gloom 2: Down to Frown is upon us dear listeners, and things are dark. Lucky for you, and us, we are joined this week by special guest and NWPPVIP Tommy Bechtold! Tommy is a comedian, and actor, and if you have been fortunate enough to see Tommy perform stand up or listened to our episodes on DEF-CON 4, BEVERLY HILLS VAMP, TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK, you know he is hilarious. Truly a ray of sunshine in this otherwise gloomy month.
In this episode we head down South to talk about 1976's NASHVILLE GIRL. Directed by Gus Trikonis (THE EVIL), this 1970's hicksploitation film follows a 16-year-old runaway, played by Monica Gayle (SWITCHBLADE SISTERS), as she makes her way to the big city of Nashville (spoiler in the title!) to pursue a career in the music industry as a county singer.
In this episode, we laugh, we cry, we ask whyyyyyy would anyone not listen to us explore diners, fashion, and the highly questionable choices of the 70s when newspapers were the gateway to all our dreams. And does this have anything to do with another film from the 70s with "Nashville" in the title? Listen and find out!

Ep. 174: Richard's Things
Show notes
June Gloom 2: Down to Frown is officially underway, and we are kicking it off with the 1980 British drama RICHARD'S THINGS, starring Liv Ullmann and Amanda Redman.
RICHARD'S THINGS is the story of Kate, a woman whose husband Richard has the decency to die before the movie even really gets going, leaving behind his things — and, as Kate slowly pieces together, his mistress. What follows is a methodical, quivering-lipped journey through grief, betrayal, and the unlikely friendship that blooms between a widow and her late husband's younger lover, Josie. United by their mutual loss, mutual exasperation, and a shared appreciation for lighting a cigarette without ever actually smoking it, the two women navigate the emotional wreckage of loving the same deeply average man.
There's so much to uncover in RICHARD'S THINGS. And by uncover, we don't mean nudity. There's not much of that. But there are omelets. There are hugs — intense, hard-R hugs. There is a burglar in slacks. There are disgruntled in-laws. And eventually, there is a road-side breakup that may be the most efficient ending of a relationship in cinema history.
We discuss the film's notoriously deliberate pacing — which is to say, every line of dialogue arrives as though it has traveled a great distance and needs a moment to rest. We gush over the film's undisputed highlight: a gloriously civil home burglary committed by a man in a sport coat who would go on to play Emperor Palpatine in the STAR WARS franchise.
