Trey says Dallas went all in on this year, and with Pickens on a one-year deal, the Cowboys need to get something for him now and take it down to the studs. Stink says he's seen Pickens make the spectacular play and then disconnect on the routes and blocks that don't make the highlight reel. And as long as Jerry Jones has the final say on all things football, Stink says, no head coach in Dallas, Brian Schottenheimer included, will ever be truly empowered. Also in this episode: • Jerry Jones' vote of confidence in Brian Schottenheimer • The two red-zone mistakes Stink found on the coaches' tape • Cowboys fans who have stopped planning their Sundays around the team • What Joe Gibbs, Mike Shanahan and Bill Parcells had that Dallas coaches don't • Why the Cowboys are the only NFC team without a conference title game since their last Super Bowl win Subscribe to The OG Football Show: https://www.youtube.com/@TheOGFootballShow?sub_confirmation=1 Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/R/OGFB Disclaimer: 18+ only. Show notes

The Los Angeles Rams just rediscovered their identity, and Mark Schlereth believes they're about to go on a run. On The OG Football Show, Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, Merril Hoge and Damien Woody break down how Sean McVay returned to a physical, smash-mouth running game in the Rams' 35-21 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and why that formula could get Los Angeles back into the NFC West race. Schlereth explains why McVay has always been a run-first coach disguised as a spread-offense mastermind, while Woody argues that committing to the ground game is exactly what Los Angeles needs with injuries piling up. The guys also break down how the running game opened up three touchdown passes for Matthew Stafford and helped neutralize Maxx Crosby and the Raiders' pass rush. Merril explains why he believes McVay has made a permanent change to the Rams' offensive approach rather than a one-game adjustment. The guys also debate whether the performance says more about Los Angeles or Las Vegas, how the running game can help an injury-depleted defense, and why the uncertainty surrounding Myles Garrett's return could have major implications for the Rams. Plus, a look at Los Angeles' upcoming schedule and whether the Rams can build enough momentum to make a serious run in the NFC West. Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/R/OGFB Disclaimer: 18+ only. No other quarterback has more than 10. Schlereth breaks down Goff's elite accuracy and a remarkable throw to Sam LaPorta against Green Bay, while Woody explains why Goff's ability to process defenses makes him one of the toughest quarterbacks to pressure. Merril explains how Goff's reputation from his time with the Rams continues to follow him, even as his game has improved in Detroit. The guys also discuss whether having Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs works against Goff in the MVP debate, how he compares to Caleb Williams and the rest of the NFC North, and why the upcoming matchup with Brian Flores and the Minnesota Vikings could finally change the conversation. Stink explains what finally changed for the offensive line. Woody says the key is the attempts, not the yards. Merril says it’s about controlling the tempo, and that the Cowboys defense gets better the less it plays. The guys also debate how much of it was the Eagles, whether the Dallas defense can build on it, and why the next stretch of the schedule is where the Cowboys have to stack wins. Stink says the game told us more about Seattle than Kansas City: a team with its back against the wall, at home, knowing its NFC West hopes were on the line. Seattle took away Kenneth Walker, and Kansas City had no receiver that scared them. Stink explains why Nick Emmanwori is one of the most versatile players in football, lining up at nickel, corner, safety, linebacker and on the edge from series to series, and why that makes this defense so hard to identify.

Trey and Stink also get into Sam Darnold’s interceptions, why Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the best receiver in the business right now, and how Seattle’s schedule sets up the race with the 49ers and Rams. Plus Stink’s story of the night the 1997 Broncos walked into a buzzsaw in San Francisco.

On this week's Challenge Flags, the OG Football Show panel of Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth and Merril Hoge each challenge a player, team or division heading into Week 7.

Stink says he can't find one thing the Broncos do well on offense right now: they can't run it, throw it or protect, and their receivers don't get open. His challenge to Bo Nix is to climb the pocket, take a shot to the teeth, fight for a first down and stop being so scared to make a mistake that he makes no plays.

Also in this episode: • Merril challenges the Houston Texans to run the table, and breaks down a CJ Stroud throw that shows why he never blinks. • Trey challenges the Cowboys, Eagles and Giants to win a game. Every team in the NFC East has multiple Super Bowl titles, and right now none of them can find a win.

    Lead your team.

Stink says Caleb Williams, back from a hamstring injury, was the best he has ever seen him playing on schedule in the win over Atlanta, and that Ben Johnson told him a year ago to wait and see the offensive line he was building. Merril says the Bears are playing to a championship standard up front, with three different quarterbacks and three different running backs all finding success behind it. In Kansas City, Kenneth Walker III has the Chiefs at 5-0 with an NFL-leading 665 rushing yards, and Merril says he has become a force every team has to deal with. Next up: Sunday night in Seattle, the team that let him go.

    Also in this episode:
    • Alvin Kamara does it all for the Saints, and the Steelers’ fourth-quarter comeback in Tampa.
    • The Cowboys and Eagles offenses, and the Rams’ mounting losses and injuries.
    • Everybody calm down: nobody wants to win the NFC East, and Trey on why going for it on fourth down every time is a disease.
    • The Jalen Hurts fallout, and why Stink says team doctors have to be gatekeepers.
    • Burning questions: Are the Browns for real? Is it time to panic on the Rams? Who matters more, Kenneth Walker or Mike Evans?

Get well soon, Damien. We’ll be ready when you are.

  8. Merril Hoge Nearly Lost His Life to Bad Medical Care — Here Is What Worries Him About Jalen Hurts.

    Show notes

The Eagles knew Jalen Hurts had a blood clot in his calf before their game in London. He played anyway, after reportedly going about 36 hours without sleep, then flew home with the team. Now he's out for the season. Merril Hoge, who nearly lost his life after a team doctor cleared him over the phone in 1994, says the Eagles have some hard questions to answer.

On the first OG FB Extra, Trey Wingo and Merril Hoge break down the Jalen Hurts health crisis. On Monday, the Eagles and Hurts' agent announced he has deep vein thrombosis and blood clots in both lungs. The good news: his prognosis is very good, and he's expected to make a full recovery.

Merril has lived this. In 1994, five days after a severe concussion against the Chiefs, he was cleared to play over the phone. A few weeks later, another hit ended his career and nearly took his life. His point: it's usually not the injury that's the problem, it's the care you get. Keeping a player awake before a violent game and putting him on a transatlantic flight with a known clot are decisions the Eagles' medical staff and front office will have to explain.

Trey and Merril also get into how the Miami Heat protected Chris Bosh from himself, why it's on organizations to protect players who will always say they want to play, and what the Eagles need to say publicly now. Merril's advice: tell the whole truth, own the mistakes, and have a plan going forward.

Stink’s flag goes to Ben Johnson, who has spent his time in Chicago talking trash about the Green Bay Packers. Stink loves it as a broadcaster. As a former player, he has a problem with it: Johnson is writing checks his players have to cash. The coach doesn’t have to block anybody or tackle anybody, but every word he says ends up on the other team’s bulletin board. Green Bay had all week to rally around it, and the Packers beat the Bears 31-7 at Lambeau. Players are simple creatures, Stink says, and that kind of motivation lands. Merril has a history lesson for Johnson too: go look at how it turned out for Jerry Glanville. Also in this episode: • Trey Wingo challenges Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker and the Dallas defense to figure out a run defense that has gotten worse since the Micah Parsons trade. • Merril Hoge challenges the Philadelphia Eagles to get Nick Sirianni’s back, after their coach took the blame for the loss to Jacksonville, with Carolina up next. • Damien Woody challenges the Washington Commanders to answer for the clock-management collapse against the Giants, with a road trip to San Francisco on Monday Night Football. Hill appeared to yell at Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson after the two collided in the Vikings-Dolphins game. Trey's message: the job is to let the players perform within the rules, and nobody tunes in to watch the officials. 14. Week Three Is in the Books — Brock Purdy Is an MVP, Dallas Has a Coaching Problem, New England Has a Bigger One

    Show notes

Week 3 is in the books, and some teams are starting to show us exactly who they are.

On The OG Football Show, Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, Merril Hoge and Damien Woody break down the biggest surprises, disappointments and storylines from around the NFL after Week 3.

Brock Purdy and the 49ers continue to roll despite injuries across the roster, and Purdy is playing at an MVP level. The guys break down his processing, accuracy and command of Kyle Shanahan's offense, why San Francisco continues to thrive no matter who goes down and why it's time to stop treating Purdy's success like it's luck.

Meanwhile, Dallas continues to find new ways to get in its own way. From abandoning the run near the goal line to questionable clock management and late-game decisions against Baltimore, the OGs break down why the Cowboys' problems go beyond the players on the field and why situational football continues to cost them.

And things are getting ugly in New England. Drake Maye is struggling, the offense has stalled and the Patriots are finding out just how different this season looks after last year's success. The guys discuss what's going wrong with Maye, whether his problems can be fixed and just how much trouble the Patriots are actually in.

Plus, the Browns and Raiders are turning heads, Michael Penix has transformed the Falcons offense, Green Bay has a serious problem up front, the Chargers somehow found another way to lose, the Rams aren't ready to panic, Pittsburgh finally got Aaron Rodgers going, Denver keeps starting slowly and much more.

No bits. No BS. Just ball.

  16. Which 2-0 NFL Teams Are for Real — and Why Mark Schlereth Is Eating a Turd Sandwich About Kansas City

    Show notes

Two weeks into the NFL season, 8 teams are 2-0. This panel isn't buying all of them.

Sponsored by Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/r/OGFB Use code OGFB and get $25 when you trade $25.

Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, Merril Hoge, and Damien Woody break down which 2-0 NFL teams are legit through two weeks, and which ones are running on borrowed time. The Chiefs, Seahawks, 49ers, and Bengals all get the full buy-in from the table. The Raiders don't, despite matching the record.

    Inside this episode:

    • Trey lays out the Chiefs' offensive turnaround under new play-calling, comparing five years of 30-point games under the old coordinator to a perfect start under the new one
    • The Falcons' passer rating disaster against Carolina, a number so bad the panel does the math on what spiking the ball every play would have scored
    • Why the Chargers' two-year record against teams over .500 should worry anyone still holding out hope in LA
    • A full verdict on every 2-0 team in the league: who's real, who's a mirage, and the one team nobody at this table will co-sign
    • Plus: biggest disappointments through two weeks, the teams everyone needs to calm down about (yes, Caleb Williams), and a complete 0-2 accept-or-reject rundown including the Colts, Texans, Bucs, Titans, Falcons, Commanders, and Dolphins

  17. Green Bay Fell Apart. Caleb Williams Proved Everyone Wrong and a Life Lesson That Stopped Us All

    Show notes

The OGs are throwing their Challenge Flags after Week 1 — and this time, they're challenging teams, players and even themselves. Sponsored by Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/r/OGFB Use code OGFB and get $25 when you trade $25. Mark Schlereth starts with an admission: he was wrong about Caleb Williams. After questioning what he had seen from the Bears quarterback, Mark went back to the tape and saw a different player. Caleb looked more comfortable from the pocket, played with better rhythm and showed signs that his development under Ben Johnson could be real. Damien Woody throws his flag at the Green Bay Packers. After what they showed — and then failed to finish — the challenge now is proving they can consistently play like a legitimate contender. Merril Hoge turns his attention to the New York Jets. One performance can get everyone's attention, but now comes the harder part: proving it wasn't a one-week anomaly. Then Trey Wingo closes Challenge Flags with something much bigger than football. After losing his mom, Trey dedicates his challenge to her and shares a simple message about appreciating the time we get, the people around us and the importance of actually living every day instead of taking it for granted. Football gives us plenty to challenge every week. Sometimes the most important challenge has nothing to do with football. Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, Merril Hoge and Damien Woody break it all down on The OG Football Show. No agendas. No hot takes. No fluff. Just football. 18. Week One Is Over — Here Is What Matters Heading Into Week Two

    Show notes

Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, Merril Hoge and Damien Woody are back after Week One, and now there is actual football to talk about. Sponsored by Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/r/OGFB Use code OGFB and get $25 when you trade $25. Week One is over. Some teams looked exactly like what they were supposed to be. Others looked nothing like it. The OGs break down what actually mattered, what deserves concern and what everyone needs to calm down about heading into Week Two. THE HURRY UP. Damien gives Baltimore’s first-year play caller Declan Doyle an A+ after Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and Zay Flowers helped the Ravens offense explode out of the gate. Mark goes the other way with the Chargers, questioning the Justin Herbert hype, the offensive line rotation and a team that got pushed around in the trenches. Merril goes to the Jets. For once, this is not about finding a reason to believe. He says they actually looked like a football team, with offense, defense and special teams working together on the road. Trey gets both his surprise and disappointment from Packers-Vikings: Kyler Murray goes down, Carson Wentz comes in and throws three touchdowns without an interception, while Green Bay lets a double-digit lead disappear. EVERYBODY CALM DOWN. Mark is not burying the Rams after one ugly trip to Australia. Merril changes his mind on Arizona after going back to the tape. Damien tells everyone not to panic over Houston’s defense after Josh Allen shredded it. Trey’s point is broader: it was Week One. Nine teams scored at least 30, the Bears put up 59, starters barely played in August and a lot of what we saw looked more like preseason football than a finished NFL product. TREY’S BURNING QUESTIONS. Mark called Miami’s opener, so Trey asks the obvious question: will the Dolphins win a game this season? Mark says yes, probably one or two, and explains just how young and depleted the roster really is. Damien looks at a league-wide trend that may only grow in 2026: more two-, three- and even four-tight-end personnel. Then Merril answers the Los Angeles question: Rams or Chargers, which fan base should actually be more concerned? BILLS AT TEXANS. Buffalo walks into Houston against a defense that has given Josh Allen problems and comes away with a statement. The OGs break down Joe Brady’s first game as a head coach, the formations Buffalo used to create favorable one-on-one matchups and how Allen punished Houston when those opportunities appeared. Then there is C.J. Stroud. For much of the game he went throw for throw with Allen, but when Houston needed the game, the same problem resurfaced: turnovers. Damien explains why Stroud is still the one thing capable of holding Houston back, while Mark gets specific about the ball-security mistake that cannot happen when a quarterback leaves the pocket. Week One does not tell us everything. It does tell us where to start looking. The Ravens look dangerous. The Jets finally looked like a team. The Chargers have real questions. Green Bay has something to answer for. Buffalo made a statement. No bits. No bullshit. Just ball. Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/R/OGFB Disclaimer: 18+ only. 19. Merril Hoge's Top 5 Factor Backs for the 2026 NFL Season Bonus

    Show notes

Merril Hoge coined the term factor back when he was playing. This is his top five for the 2026 NFL season, and the tie at the bottom he refused to break. Sponsored by Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/r/OGFB Use code OGFB and get $25 when you trade $25. Subscribe: www.youtube.com/@TheOGFootballShow?sub_confirmation=1 Merril came up with the label in Pittsburgh under running backs coach Dick Hoak, and the definition has not changed since. A factor back is not a rushing title. It is a back who is a factor in the run game, a factor in the passing game, and a factor in blitz pickup. Every week, in something. That standard is why this list does not look like the yardage leaderboard, and it is why the top three separate from the rest. The list starts with a tie. James Cook and Saquon Barkley share the bottom slot. Merril credits his wife for pushing him on Cook, who led the league in rushing last season for the Buffalo Bills and who Merril calls the most underrated and most forgotten back in football. Saquon Barkley is on the list for what he did for the Philadelphia Eagles on the ground, and Merril explains plainly why he is not higher. Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts is next, on the argument that the two things that win in the NFL are turnover ratio and controlling tempo. Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers follows as the most movable chess piece of the group, a back who has become an inside runner as well as a perimeter threat. Then Jahmyr Gibbs of the Detroit Lions and Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons at the top, and Merril will not put one over the other. He calls it a coin flip and says these are players you see once a decade. Trey Wingo brings in Damien Woody and Mark Schlereth on the offensive lines in front of these backs. Woody has no concerns in San Francisco with Deebo Samuel back in the fold and likes what Atlanta is building under Kevin Stefanski. Schlereth is watching Detroit's interior with Penei Sewell moving to the left side, Blake Miller coming in from Clemson and Juice Scruggs arriving from Houston, and he is watching Philadelphia get older with Lane Johnson and Jeff Stoutland no longer in the building. Both teams have new play callers. Schlereth blocked for a 2,000 yard rusher in Terrell Davis, and his take on what Bijan Robinson does with a broken play is the best forty seconds in the segment. The list is the argument. The lines in front of these guys are the reason it might not survive the season. Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/R/OGFB Disclaimer: 18+ only. 20. Which Drake Maye Shows Up? — The Super Bowl Rematch Opens the Season

    Show notes

Drake Maye finished second in the MVP voting and then became a different player in January. Seattle is the first defense he sees this season, and Seattle is not the team it was in February. Sponsored by Kalshi: https://kalshi.com/r/OGFB Use code OGFB and get $25 when you trade $25. Subscribe: www.youtube.com/@TheOGFootballShow?sub_confirmation=1 The Seahawks and Patriots open the year with a Super Bowl rematch, only the second time that has happened since the Broncos and Panthers ran it back in 2016. Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, Merril Hoge and Damien Woody get into what actually decides this one. Seattle is the champion and arrives thinner. Klint Kubiak is gone, and Trey argues the play caller is a bigger loss than anything that happened on the defensive side of the ball. New England comes in off an offseason of discontent with a quarterback carrying a specific question into Week One. Damien lays out the regular season against the playoff tape and explains why the schedule matters before anyone crowns anybody. Also in this one: why you keep handing the ball off even when it is not working, what the Super Bowl settled about taking free points, and the return of the challenge flags. One flag each, thrown at a player, a coach or a team, for the first game of the year. Seattle has home field. New England has something to prove. Wednesday is the first real evidence either way.
