The Old Kids Movies

Another stop-motion Halloween kids flick to follow up our discussions on Wallace and Gromit and The Nightmare Before Christmas, we decided to chat about 2009's Coraline. We discuss the beautiful animation, laggy strange dance-filled middle, and the thrilling conclusion that most skeptics (like AJ) should still love.

Happy Halloween!

What was intended as a DCOM Power Hour turned into a power two hours as we cover our (potentially) last Disney Channel Original Movies ever on The Old Kids Movies.

In this episode, we talk about how we – as two 30+ year old men – just don't see DCOMs the way we used to, and while we cherish the role they had in our lives and on this show, it's time to bid them farewell on this podcast.

To send the DCOM off properly, we cover four different original movies from Disney Channel in-depth. They are:

• Can of Worms (1999): One of the strangest and most unique things Disney Channel has ever done. Once it gets through its run-of-the-mill high school drama (and some gross-out contents with spectacular practicals), it ends with a fun intergalactic adventure that both of us appreciated.
• The Scream Team (2002): A movie that both of us agree is one of the best DCOMs ever made. Maybe we're partial because it's nearing spooky season and this one takes place in New England, but we love this one's themes, script, and acting.
• Right on Track (2003): A sports DCOM! AJ remembers liking this one more, and Trevor was left underwhelmed. Still, we enjoyed the dynamic between these real-life siblings.
• Stuck in the Suburbs (2004): Our biggest disagreement. AJ loves the scathing take this has on suburban culture and lifestyle. Trevor thinks it's barely a movie.

Let us know on our socials which DCOMs we never covered that you wished we had!

Time to go back to school! We're revisiting 1995's Billy Madison to talk about Sandler's role in our childhoods as a gateway to PG-13 comedies and how we look at his talents now. Also, O'Doyle rules, The Puppy Who Lost His Way, do you have any more gum, yada yada yada.

It's the twelve-year anniversary of Boyhood! Not exactly an old kids movie, but there's no way we could let this movie's milestone anniversary pass without discussing it.

Mason graduated high school the year between Trevor and AJ – and this movie perfectly captures so much of what we experienced as Millennial/Gen-Z cusps.

Join us as we revisit the Oregon Trail, Cobra Starship, FaceTime, the Telephone music video, and squash as we celebrate growing up, childhood, and 12 years of Boyhood.

It's time to remember..."Hook" for its 35th anniversary. AJ was too scared of Dustin Hoffman to watch it as a kid, but Trevor has a lot of appreciation for it and the lore of Peter Pan.

It's the 30th anniversary year of 1996's The Stupids! It was Trevor's first watch, and he thinks the title matches the quality of this John Landis flick. AJ, however, genuinely sees it as a secret masterpiece and came to appreciate it through multiple viewings in childhood.

Happy almost Thanksgiving! To celebrate the history of our nation, we're going back to our roots as New Englanders to do a NEW ENGLAND MOVIE DRAFT! We may be biased, but some of our favorite movies take place in Massachusetts and the like, so we're bringing on two fellow New Englanders to draft some of the best movies that take place in this part of the country to get in touch with our pilgrimy roots.

Tune in for a recap ofAJ's wedding, Trevor's extravagant proposal, and our disagreements on Superman.

Break out the tissues. We're finally crossing the bridge into 2007 to talk about Disney's Bridge to Terabithia. Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb were catapulted into "kid actors who can actually act" stardom with this massive cultural hit for this generation.

For its 20th anniversary, we're talking about 2005's Robots! We ask ourselves what direction Robin Williams was given, what this movie's stance on capitalism is, and what we thought of that highly convoluted public transit system.
