The Pastor's Wife-ish Podcast

Christianity, Health & Fitness, Religion & Spirituality

Ministry life is beautiful. It’s also complicated, exhausting, and nothing like anyone told you it would be.

Pastor’s Wife-ish is a podcast for women in ministry who love God deeply and are still figuring out what that means for their identity, their marriage, their faith, and their everyday life. Hosted by Whitney and Myka, each episode brings the honest conversation you’ve been looking for but couldn’t find — no perfect answers, no performance, just two real women figuring it out together.

Pull up a chair. You’re not alone in this.

  1. The Performance Nobody Asked You to Give

    Season 1, Episode 3

    Show notes

You know the feeling. You walk into church on Sunday and something just switches. The smile goes on. The tone adjusts. The real thing gets tucked away somewhere you can deal with it later.

In episode three, Whitney and Myka dig into performance culture in ministry — where it comes from, what it costs, and why it is one of the fastest roads to loneliness and burnout that nobody talks about. They get into the pressure to look right, respond right, and appear spiritually on top of it at all times, and what happens when you perform so long that you start doing it with God too.

This one got personal. Whitney shares what happened when she finally stopped performing long enough to tell God exactly how she was feeling — and landed in 1 Kings 19 with Elijah under the broom tree. Because sometimes the most theological thing you can do is admit you don’t want to do this anymore.

Plus — Church Folk Chronicles brings a new Christian’s creative interpretation of the Daniel Fast. We’ll just say it involved a different kind of sacrifice.

If you’ve been on so long you can’t remember what off feels like, this episode is for you.

    SHOW NOTES

    In this episode:

    • Why performance culture in ministry is really just identity loss wearing a different name
    • The approval-seeking that lives in all of us and how a few voices start speaking for everyone
    • How being on all the time creates the loneliest kind of loneliness — surrounded by people who don’t actually know you
    • The customer service dynamic in church and why the grace rarely flows both ways
    • What self-evaluation actually looks like when you’re stuck in a performance cycle
    • Whitney’s moment with Elijah in 1 Kings 19 and what God said before he said anything theological
    • Who you are is deeply relevant to the calling placed on your life

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • 1 Kings 19 (Elijah under the broom tree)

  2. Losing Yourself to the Role

    Show notes

What happens when ministry slowly becomes the whole of who you are — and one day someone asks what you like to do, and you genuinely don’t know?

In this episode, Whitney and Myka get honest about identity loss inside the ministry wife role. Not the concept of it, but the actual experience — the slow fade, the self-imposed pressure, the moment you realize you’ve been disappearing without noticing. They talk about the difference between dying to yourself and losing yourself, why the more-miserable-equals-more-holy lie is so easy to believe, and what it actually looks like to start finding your way back.

They also get into the grief of it. Because when you turn around and look at the woman you used to be, and she feels almost unrecognizable, that loss is real and it deserves to be named.

Plus — Church Folk Chronicles returns, and Myka confesses what she whispers to herself during congregational prayers.

If you’ve ever had someone ask what you like to do and had to stop and think — this one is for you.

  3. Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud

    Show notes

    This is where it started.

In the very first episode of Pastor’s Wife-ish, Whitney and Myka introduce themselves, tell you how they met — at a conference, over tears and a hug and an exchanged phone number — and get honest about why this podcast exists.

It’s for the woman who loves the church and is still trying to figure out where she fits inside of it. The one who has congregation members but not many people who actually understand what she’s carrying. The one who has learned to fake it because there was nowhere else to put the real thing.

They talk about the longing for a community that actually gets it, why joy can feel dangerous when things have been hard, and what it looks like to keep choosing hope when ministry has disappointed you in ways nobody warned you about. They also get into the difference between the pastor’s wife role and the calling underneath it — and why confusing the two will cost you.

Plus — Church Folk Chronicles kicks off with Whitney’s confession about the funniest thing she ever did during a Sunday sermon. We’ll just say it involved a man who was very high and very willing to take her lead.

If you’ve ever thought “someone needs to say this out loud” — this is that podcast.
