The Amazing Race 39 Cast Reveal | The Reality Flash

Also available on YouTube.

The Amazing Race is back, and the tension starts before the first leg even begins. Jessica Liese and Mike Bloom break down the TAR39 cast preview, diving into this season's most talked-about twist, its most compelling team dynamics, and what the return to an all-new cast means after last season's Big Brother-heavy edition.

For the first time in the show's history (in the US), every team receives an Express Pass at the starting line, forcing strategic decisions from day one. The race spans five continents, nine countries, and 13 cities, including the show's first-ever stop in Albania, covering more than 25,000 miles. Jess and Mike dig into how the all-team Express Pass twist changes the early game, whether teams will burn their passes quickly or hold on, and how that pressure ripples through the competition.

The cast brings strong personalities and built-in storylines. Pro soccer players Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman bring World Cup and Olympic pedigree, while grandfather-grandson duo Doug and Dylan Matter represent the season's widest age gap, Doug at 73 and Dylan at just 19, the oldest and youngest racers of the season. Family teams like mother-daughter duo Ann-Marie and Riley Tejcek add emotional stakes, while teams like best friends Jody Rebhun and Jenn Naso bring a different dynamic entirely.

Key discussion points include:

• The all-Express-Pass twist and the deadline to use it by leg six: strategic gamble or gift?
• Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman's athletic backgrounds and how physical strength translates to race performance
• Doug and Dylan Matter's grandfather-grandson bond and whether the age gap helps or hurts
• Family and sibling teams and the built-in trust (and tension) that comes with pre-existing close relationships
• The Albania leg and what the show's first-ever visit there might bring in terms of challenge design

With 13 teams, a game-changing twist, and a global route packed with firsts, which teams will thrive under pressure and who will burn out early?

Tune in for the full cast breakdown and everything you need to know before TAR39's two-night premiere event.

After its quiet farewell on Netflix, The Circle re-emerges with promises of fresh innovations and big changes, and Mike and Pooya break down what this means for fans and strategy lovers alike.

Their conversation looks back at The Circle’s journey from its early, pandemic-fueled popularity and social experiment roots, to its transformation into a showmance-chasing, romance-heavy series. They discuss how recent seasons shifted back toward strategy, why the show lost steam, and what Hulu might do differently. The hosts highlight Hulu’s commitment, including the new live format, the hybrid celebrity-civilian cast, and the potential for real-time audience voting modeled after the UK version. What could these twists mean for alliances, catfishing gameplay, and the show’s signature mix of personalities and tactics?

Mike and Pooya discuss:

•

The show's pivot toward romantic storylines, including notable showmances and themed seasons like "Circle Singles"

•

•

•

Predictions for celebrity casting and how social media personalities, athletes, and reality TV veterans could bring new strategies and drama

With speculation swirling about which familiar faces might join and how real-time interaction could shake up gameplay, The Circle’s Hulu revival stands at the edge of a game-changing experiment. What is Happening with The Bachelorette? w/ Reality Steve

Dive into the world of reality TV analysis with Mike Bloom and guest Reality Steve Carbone as they discuss the latest news about The Bachelorette’s recently canceled season. This episode explains the events leading to the cancellation, examining how Taylor Frankie Paul’s domestic violence history and a newly released video influenced ABC’s decision just days before the planned premiere.

Mike and Reality Steve review Taylor Frankie Paul’s path from social media celebrity to Bachelorette lead, noting how her past, documented in police reports and covered by entertainment news, did not initially deter ABC or Hulu. They outline the sequence of events: Taylor’s media appearances, the investigation into new allegations, and the suspension of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The discussion highlights how new video evidence influenced network executives and public opinion.

Key highlights from the discussion include:

• ABC and Hulu’s decision process after seeing the video surface online despite prior knowledge from police records.
• Analysis of Taylor’s complicated relationship history and the network's choice of "stunt casting" to revive a franchise in decline.
• Perspectives on accountability, Taylor’s released statements, and the contrasting reactions from fans and commentators.
• The ripple effects on production, sponsorships, and the show's future, including speculation about possible legal actions and the fate of other contestants.
• Thoughts on whether The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will resume filming, how reality TV networks vet future leads, and the shift in focus to Taylor’s family and well-being.

MTV Cancels Ridiculousness — What's Next?

Welcome to The Reality Flash, your one-stop podcast for all the breaking news in the world of reality TV! Hosted by Mike Bloom, this podcast brings you the freshest headlines from your favorite shows and reality stars. From shocking cast announcements to behind-the-scenes gossip to the latest social media drama, Mike gives you everything you need to stay in the loop. If it’s happening in reality TV, we'll bring the news to you in a flash!

This episode tackles a shocking October announcement: MTV has officially canceled Ridiculousness. Described as one of the cornerstones of the network's current programming, the cancellation of this series has been called, in a word, ridiculousness.

The show, hosted by Rob Dyrdek, premiered in 2011 and is essentially a communal version of America's Funniest Home Videos. Dyrdek and a panel comment on funny internet videos, often featuring amateur stunts. The impact of this cancellation is significant: over 14 years, Ridiculousness produced more than 1,700 episodes across 46 seasons. This volume of content—850 hours of television—means Ridiculousness put out more content than Survivor, despite Survivor having been on the air a decade longer. Up until its cancellation, it was a major constant that MTV relied upon to fill a "profuse amount" of its daily programming.

The news suggests MTV is undergoing a massive shift, as the company stated it is working to "reimagine MTV for the future with a more curated slate featuring fresh formats, different creative voices, and refresh programming".

Mike Bloom explores whether this is a sign of a "full-on makeover" at the network, specifically looking at how this might affect other long-running programming, like The Challenge. Rumors suggest executives are considering moving The Challenge permanently to Paramount Plus. Is the end of the "Ness franchise" (which includes four spin-offs: Amazingness, Deliciousness, Adorableness, and Messiness) a canary in the coal mine for other tenured shows?
