Ep. 73 - Book Club Review of The Calamity Club
Show notes
It’s book club day on The Soon Podcast, and this month we’re diving into The Calamity Club by Katherine Stockett, author of The Help! Set in 1930s Mississippi, this historical fiction novel had us completely invested in its unforgettable characters, wild plot twists, and emotional storylines.
Join sisters Alyssa and Amandalyn as we break down all 656 pages, share our ratings, and unpack the stories of Meg, Birdie, and Charlie. We’re talking about the complicated relationships, shocking secrets, heartbreaking moments, and the historical realities of how women were treated during this time. Plus, we have LOTS of thoughts about that ending. Did anyone else need about 100 more pages of closure?!
We also chat about whether the audiobook is worth listening to, the characters we loved (and absolutely did not), and why we’re already dreaming of seeing this book adapted into a movie.
With ratings around 9/10, it’s safe to say this one was a hit for both of us, but we definitely have some questions!
Whether you read along with us or just love a good historical fiction book review, grab your coffee or your favorite little treat and come hang with us for a very spoiler-filled sister book club.
Spoiler alert: We discuss the entire book, including the ending!
