Bethany Kimsey welcomes you for a quick cup of coffee, some laughs and maybe a few tears as we talk about the realities of motherhood. As a mother of 8 children ranging in age from 5-21, Bethany has learned the freedom of applying gospel truths to the daily details with children. Together we will learn how to take spiritual truths into the micro and macro moments of motherhood. How do we make this fuzzy intersection of real life mothering and the gospel clearly defined for vision and confidence? Connection happens when we meet together in the real spaces-- the kitchen tables of life-- sharing stories of hope, truth, and grace. When God breaks through everything changes about our motherhood, and we can walk with confidence and purpose.

  1. Are You Parenting from Your Past? How to Break the Cycle with Sally Livingston

    Episode 437

    Show notes

What if the struggles you're facing in motherhood and marriage aren't just about what's happening today—but about what you've been carrying since childhood?

In this episode, Bethany sits down with licensed marriage and family therapist, author, and speaker Sally Livingston to talk about how our past experiences shape our identity, relationships, and the way we parent our children.

Drawing from more than 30 years of counseling experience and her book, Parent or Partner: A Practical Guide to Overcoming Overparenting in Favor of Vibrant Marriage and Healthy Kids, Sally shares how childhood wounds, learned behaviors, and the pressure to be a perfect parent can quietly influence our marriages and motherhood.

Together, Bethany and Sally explore why we sometimes repeat patterns we never intended to carry forward, how putting our children at the center of everything can affect our marriages, and why understanding our identity in Christ is essential to breaking free. They also discuss practical ways to recognize unhealthy patterns, release the need to control our children's behavior, and begin parenting with greater purpose and grace.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • How childhood experiences can shape the way you parent and relate to your spouse
    • Why putting your children at the center of everything can negatively affect your marriage
    • How to recognize unhealthy patterns like perfectionism, people-pleasing, and defensiveness
    • Why understanding your identity in Christ is essential to breaking free from past patterns
    • How to release the pressure to be a perfect mom and embrace God's grace
    • Why children need room to be children instead of carrying unrealistic expectations
    • Practical ways to build a healthier marriage and parent with greater intentionality
    • How to decide which patterns to carry forward and which ones need to end with you

You don't have to keep parenting from the patterns of your past. Through Christ, you can begin recognizing what's shaping your responses, extending the grace you've received, and building something different for the next generation.

Recognize the patterns. Receive His grace. Parent with purpose.

  2. What If God Wants You to Come Closer? with Stasi Eldredge

    Episode 436

    Show notes

What if God isn't asking you to work harder for Him—but inviting you to come closer and know His Heart?

In this episode, Bethany sits down with author Stasi Eldredge to talk about her new book, The Ladder of Love, and the invitation to move beyond simply knowing about God into a deeper, more personal relationship with Him.

Stasi shares how her own hunger for more of God led her on a decades-long journey of discovering the many ways He reveals Himself to us. Through the picture of a "ladder of love," she explains how God continually invites us into greater intimacy with Him—not through striving, performing, or checking spiritual boxes, but through experiencing His love and learning to recognize His voice.

Together, Bethany and Stasi talk honestly about hearing God in everyday life, bringing Him into the small moments of motherhood, and finding freedom from the shame that tells us to hide. They also explore what it means to believe that God delights in us, that our identity remains secure even when we fail, and that His invitation remains the same: come closer.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why knowing facts about God isn't the same as personally knowing and experiencing Him
    • How The Ladder of Love can help you understand the different ways God invites you into deeper intimacy
    • How to begin recognizing God's voice when so many other voices are competing for your attention
    • Why God cares about the ordinary details of motherhood and wants to meet you there
    • How Scripture helps you discern whether what you're hearing truly reflects God's Heart
    • Why shame pushes you away from God while His conviction draws you closer
    • How to live from the security of knowing you are deeply loved—even on the days you feel like you've failed

You don't have to perform your way into a deeper relationship with God. He is already inviting you to know Him, hear His voice, and experience His love in the middle of your everyday life.

Stop striving. Draw near. Know His Heart.

  3. Feel Stuck Waiting on God? He’s Still Moving with Jenessa Wait

    Episode 435

    Show notes

What if the season that feels like it's holding you back is actually the season God is using to prepare you for what's next?

In this episode, Bethany sits down with author Jenessa Wait to talk about identity, motherhood, waiting on God, and moving forward in faith when His promises feel far away.

Jenessa shares the heart behind her book, Moving with God: Nine Keys to Get Unstuck and Step Boldly into His Promises for Your Life, and how God has used seasons of motherhood, loss, waiting, and surrender to teach her that His work isn't reserved for some future version of our lives. The season you're in right now—even when it feels mundane, difficult, or completely different from what you expected—can be part of how God is preparing you for what's ahead.

Together, Bethany and Jenessa talk honestly about finding your identity as a daughter of God, surrendering the promises you're holding onto, replacing unbelief with faith, and trusting God when you can't see what He's doing. They also explore how motherhood itself can become a place of preparation as we learn to faithfully steward what's in front of us and trust God with what's ahead.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why your identity in Christ has to come before what you accomplish for Him
    • How the season you're in right now may be preparing you for what's next
    • What it means to wait on God with expectancy instead of simply waiting for circumstances to change
    • Why surrendering God's promises doesn't mean giving up on them
    • How your words can reveal whether you're partnering with faith or unbelief
    • Why faithfulness in motherhood can be part of fulfilling the Great Commission
    • How to trust that God is still moving even when you feel stuck, overlooked, or forgotten

You don't have to rush through this season to get to where God is taking you. He can use the waiting, the surrender, and the ordinary faithfulness of today to prepare you for what's ahead.

Trust His timing. Steward this season. Keep moving with God.

  4. Are You Trying to Do It All? with Dina Deleasa-Gonsar

    Episode 434

    Show notes

What if the life God is calling you to isn't about doing more—but being faithful with what He's already placed in front of you?

In this episode, Bethany sits down with Dina Deleasa-Gonsar to talk about identity, motherhood, calling, and learning to recognize the significance of the everyday work God has given us.

Dina shares her journey from school counselor to food television, cookbook author, wife, and mom—and how God has taught her that our worth and calling aren't measured by our productivity, platform, or ability to "do it all." Whether you're in the boardroom, the playroom, or standing at the kitchen sink, the place God has you today can be a meaningful mission field.

Together, Bethany and Dina talk honestly about busyness, comparison, anxiety, changing seasons, and the pressure to make everything happen on our own. They explore what it looks like to keep returning to God's truth, trust His faithfulness, and recognize the small moments of joy that remind us He is present in the ordinary.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why you don't have to "do it all" to live faithfully
    • How to recognize and embrace the season God has you in right now
    • Why comparison can distort the way you see your own calling
    • How to bring anxious thoughts and difficult emotions honestly before God
    • Why mistakes and wrong decisions can still become opportunities for God to refine you
    • How to recognize the ordinary moments where God is already at work
    • Why everyday obedience can have a greater kingdom impact than you realize

You don't have to manufacture a bigger calling or accomplish everything at once. Faithfulness begins with trusting God and stewarding what He's already placed in front of you.

Release the pressure. Embrace your season. Be faithful today.

  5. What If You Don’t Have Time for a Quiet Time? with Chelsey DeMatteis

    Episode 433

    Show notes

What if growing closer to Jesus in motherhood isn't about finding more time—but inviting Him into the time you already have?

In this episode, Bethany sits down with author Chelsey DeMatteis to talk about her book, Mercy in the Margin: 52 Devotions to Encounter Jesus in the Mix-Up, Mess-Up, and Marvelous Moments of Motherhood.

Chelsey shares how motherhood taught her that meeting with God doesn't require a perfect quiet time, an uninterrupted schedule, or another thing added to your to-do list. God's mercy meets moms right in the middle of ordinary days—in rocking chairs, messy kitchens, overwhelming moments, and even the times when you feel like you're about to lose it.

Together, Bethany and Chelsey discuss releasing the pressure to be the perfect mom, recognizing your limits, trusting God with your children's futures, and finding meaningful friendships that help hold you up when motherhood gets heavy.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • How to find margin with God without adding another thing to your schedule
    • Why God wants to meet you in both the mundane and messy moments of motherhood
    • How to release guilt and shame when you reach your limits
    • Why you don't have to carry the responsibility for your child's entire future
    • How motherhood can teach you to recognize and trust God's voice
    • Why meaningful friendships are essential when motherhood gets heavy

You don't have to create more margin for God before He meets with you. His mercy is already present in the middle of your everyday life.

Slow down. Receive His mercy. Walk with Jesus.

  6. What Do You Do When Your Child Is Afraid at Night? with Chloe Kimsey

    Episode 432

    Show notes

What if bedtime fears could become an opportunity to teach your child how to trust God?

In this episode, Bethany sits down with her daughter-in-law Chloe to share the story behind Sleeping Fearless, a children's book created to help kids face fear, worry, and anxiety with the truth of God's Word.

Born from Bethany's own experience helping her children through difficult bedtimes, Sleeping Fearless pairs common childhood fears with seven promises from Scripture. Bethany and Chloe discuss why the goal isn't to teach children never to feel afraid, but to give them biblical tools to bring their fears to Jesus and learn to trust Him.

Together, they share the heart behind the book, the meaning woven throughout Chloe's illustrations, and practical ways parents can use Scripture and prayer to help their children rest in God's promises.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • The story behind Sleeping Fearless and the Scripture pillowcase that inspired it
    • Why children don't need to "get over" fear—they need to learn what to do with it
    • How to help your child respond to worry and anxiety with God's Word
    • Practical ways to teach children to pray Scripture
    • The meaning behind the oak tree woven throughout Sleeping Fearless
    • How the book became the beginning of the Big Truths for Little Ears series

You can't remove every fear your child will face, but you can teach them where to turn when fear comes.

Speak truth. Pray Scripture. Teach them to trust Him.

  7. Are You Raising Good Kids—or Kids with Godly Character? with Elise Orozco

    Episode 431

    Show notes

Can ordinary moments shape extraordinary faith in your children?

In this episode, Bethany sits down with Elise Orozco, founder of Raising Rock, to explore how parents can intentionally build biblical character in their children one conversation at a time. From playground conflicts and messy kitchens to cultural headlines and bedtime questions, Elise shares how God transformed her view of parenting after leaving a successful corporate career to become a stay-at-home mom.

Together, Bethany and Elise unpack the framework that has become the heartbeat of Elise's family: Respect. Obedience. Courage. Kindness. Rather than focusing on behavior modification, they discuss how parents can shepherd their children's hearts, disciple them according to their unique personalities, and faithfully point them back to Jesus through life's everyday moments.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why being present isn't enough—your presence needs intentionality
    • How God used an unexpected hardship to completely redirect Elise's life and priorities
    • A practical framework for teaching Respect, Obedience, Courage, and Kindness every day
    • Why discipleship happens in the "in-between moments" more than the big ones
    • How to have biblical conversations about today's culture without parenting from fear
    • Why every child needs to be discipled according to how God uniquely designed them
    • The freedom of realizing that changing your child's heart is God's job—not yours
    • Why prayer is still the greatest parenting strategy you'll ever have
    • Encouragement for moms who feel like it's too late to start

God doesn't call parents to be perfect. He invites us to faithfully point our children to Jesus through the ordinary moments He places in front of us every day.

Be present. Be intentional. Trust God with the results.

  8. Raising 8 Kids: What 27 Years Taught Us About Gospel-Centered Discipline and Grace with Troy Kimsey

    Episode 430

    Show notes

Can discipline become one of the greatest opportunities to share the gospel with your children?

In this special episode, Bethany is joined by her husband, Troy Kimsey, for an honest conversation about how God transformed their approach to parenting. Rather than simply raising well-behaved children, they share how the Lord taught them to pursue something much deeper—a child's heart.

Together, Bethany and Troy explore why discipline isn't about behavior modification but heart transformation. They discuss how seeing children through God's eyes changes the way we parent, why every child's unique personality is part of God's design, and how the gospel reshapes the way we respond to disobedience, strong wills, and everyday parenting challenges.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why the goal of parenting is heart transformation—not behavior modification
    • How discipline reveals what your child believes at the heart level
    • Why your children are in process, not a product
    • How to see your child's unique personality through God's eyes
    • Practical ways to use discipline as an opportunity to share the gospel
    • Why your identity—and your child's identity—is not based on performance

God hasn't called you to manufacture perfect children. He's invited you to partner with Him as He shapes their hearts.

Parent with grace. Speak life. Point them to Jesus.

  11. 427. You're Not Defined by Your Worst Mom Moments -- Beloved, Blessed & Rooted in Christ

    Episode 427

    Show notes

Welcome to the new season of the Warrior Mama Podcast — and welcome back to the kitchen table.

This fall, we're talking about one thing: identity. Who you are in Christ, what that means for how you parent, and how to stop letting the enemy convince you that your worth as a mom is tied to your performance.

In this season premiere, Bethany opens with a vision for what Warrior Motherhood is building — and dives straight into the first truth every mom needs to hear before anything else: You are beloved. You are blessed. Not because you've earned it, but because Jesus died for you.

You'll hear the story of a three-year-old, a box of smashed pink Valentine's cookies, and a crumpled drawing of a frog on a lily pad — and why those moments look a lot more like our own hearts than we'd like to admit. Bethany walks through John 13:3, Ephesians 1:3, and Colossians 2 to show you that just like Jesus, you can move through motherhood knowing your identity, your calling, and your destination — unshaken by the storms, the opinions, and the hard days.

When you understand who you are as God's daughter, discipline gets easier. The reactivity softens. You stop mothering from a place of fear and start mothering from a place of freedom.

This season is going to be powerful. Let's get started.

  12. 426. Be The Voice Live - Albany

    Show notes

Welcome to the kitchen table, mama. This episode kicks off the Be The Voice Warrior Mama Podcast Tour — and we couldn't think of a more fitting place to start than under a centuries-old oak tree at the ROOTED Conference, surrounded by women learning what it means to become "oaks of righteousness."

In this live Q&A, Bethany sits down with a circle of moms — young moms, seasoned moms, single moms, moms parenting kids with extra needs — and answers the questions they've been holding close. The conversation moves from the practical ("How do I disciple my own kids while ministering to others?") into the deep waters of gospel discipline, marriage rhythms, navigating friendships with different parenting styles, talking with kids about sex from God's design, and shepherding the child who doesn't fit the "normal" mold.

If you've ever felt the noise of modern parenting advice drowning out the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit, this episode is your invitation back to the plumb line.

    What You'll Hear

    • Why the most powerful discipleship rarely happens in scheduled "discipleship time"
    • The freedom of letting other women see your messy house, messy kids, and messy day
    • The practice Bethany returns to every January: asking God to show her each child the way He sees them
    • The four parts of a gospel discipline conversation — correction, inspection, repentance, and blessing
    • Why correcting behavior without offering Jesus leaves your child without hope
    • The "four minute rule" that protected Bethany and Troy's marriage through eight kids and decades of busy seasons
    • Why your children's deepest security comes from knowing mom and dad are together
    • Wisdom for moms parenting solo, or alongside a spouse who isn't tracking with them spiritually
    • How to handle friendships with moms who parent very differently — without abandoning the friendship or your convictions
    • A simple, gospel-rooted framework for talking with kids about sex and God's design for it
    • Encouragement for the mom raising a child who doesn't match the cultural ideal — and why those kids may understand the gospel sooner than the rest

  14. 424. Reset Your Motherhood: Embracing Your Role with Your Children

    Show notes

In this episode, Bethany speaks directly to the heart of motherhood and the weight, purpose, and calling within it. In seasons of exhaustion, doubt, or comparison, it is easy to lose sight of what our role truly is. This conversation is a reminder to come back to the foundation.

God has given you this role with intention. You were created first for relationship with Him, and from that relationship flows the way you lead, love, and guide your children.

Bethany shares about surrender and dependence, especially in moments when you feel stretched thin. When you are struggling, it is not about trying harder in your own strength. It is about allowing His power to work through you. God makes His appeal through willing hearts. As mothers, we become ambassadors of His love inside our homes.

If you have been questioning your impact or wondering whether you are enough, this episode will remind you that God equips the women He calls. Your role matters. Your obedience matters. And through surrender, He works powerfully in you and through you for your children.

  16. 422. Five Pillars of My Role as a Mother

    Show notes

In this episode, Bethany shares the five pillars she returns to in her role as a mother. These pillars serve as anchor points during seasons when motherhood feels heavy or when it’s hard to stay in tune.

Bethany talks about the importance of remembering that our children are souls in need of a Savior and how that truth shapes a gentle, grounded approach to parenting. She shares why asking for God’s wisdom matters, how learning the gospel deeply changes perspective, and what it looks like to parent as an ambassador rather than from a place of control.

The conversation also touches on listening and discernment, interceding for our children through prayer, and the need for community with other women. Bethany closes with encouragement to stay rooted in how God sees your children and to talk to God with them as you walk through motherhood.

  17. 421. Shepherding Your Child’s Heart Through Discipline

    Show notes

In this episode, Bethany joins the conversation to talk honestly about discipline, especially the seasons when it feels constant, exhausting, and emotionally heavy.

She shares from her own experience of walking through a season where her children were triggering frustration and anger, and how isolating that can feel as a parent. Bethany names the reality of being worn down by repeated correction and the temptation to discipline from irritation instead of intention.

Throughout the episode, she unpacks six core truths that serve as guardrails for discipline. These truths help parents respond with peace, love, and joy rather than reaction. She reminds listeners that every child has deep value, that God desires relationship with them, and that behavior or sin does not define who a child is.

Bethany emphasizes heart motivation over surface behavior, encouraging parents to remember their role as stewards and shepherds, not controllers. She points parents back to God’s heart, His kindness, forgiveness, and patience, and challenges them to model that same posture in discipline.

This episode reframes discipline as an opportunity to guide a child out of their mess and toward restoration, connection, and grace.

  19. 419. Walking Through Disobedience as a Parent

    Show notes

In this episode, Bethany is joined by her husband Troy to talk about disobedience in children and what parents actually do in the moment it shows up.

They speak honestly about mistakes they’ve made and what 27 years of parenting has taught them. Disobedience isn’t treated as surprising or alarming. It’s named as a normal part of raising kids and something parents should expect.

Bethany and Troy talk about why disobedience often feels personal, how quickly parents move into reaction, and why learning to pause matters. They walk through how to look at what motivated the behavior and how to respond with clarity instead of control.

The conversation also breaks down what obedience and disobedience really mean, the different places children can be in when they disobey, and how these moments can be used for instruction rather than power struggles.

This episode gives parents a clear way to think about disobedience and a steadier framework for responding when it happens.

  20. 418. Seeing Our Kids Through God’s Eyes

    Show notes

As the new year begins, Bethany invites parents to pause and reflect on a deeper question: Do we have a clear, God given vision for where our children are going?

In this episode, Bethany explores what it means to seek God’s perspective in parenting and trust that He has uniquely designed each parent for the children they are raising. God knows our children intimately, is fully attentive to their lives, and is actively at work in their growth and development. He invites us to see them the same way He does.

Bethany shares practical ways to bring confusion, frustration, and moments of perceived failure before the Lord through intentional reflection, writing, and prayer. Drawing from Jeremiah 33:3, this conversation emphasizes praying God’s Word and becoming students of our children as we learn to parent with clarity and purpose.

This episode encourages parents to let God’s way inform their motherhood and begin the year grounded in His perspective rather than their own.
