The Working Homeschool Mom | Routines, Time Management, Present Mom, Meal Planning, Work Life Balance

Education, How To, Kids & Family, Parenting

Are you trying to do it all—balance homeschool and run a business, while doing mom life? Do you start the day with a plan, only to have it fall apart by 9:00 AM? You’re always busy, but yet always feel behind—are you tired of always being overwhelmed?

This podcast is all about simple, faith-filled routines that actually work in real life—because let’s be honest, we all need a little more Jesus and a lot more grace to get through each day.

I’ll help you create rhythms so your home feels manageable instead of overwhelming, and you can homeschool, build your business, and handle mom life without burnout. Because the truth is, we can’t do this on our own—we need Jesus in our days, in our decisions, and in the middle of the chaos.

It’s time to stop the constant chaos and the daily scramble and choose a simpler, faith-filled way of doing life and business—so you can show up with the patience and presence your family deserves. ❤️

Hey, I’m Billie-Jo—wife, homeschool mama to 3, and business owner just like you. I know exactly what it feels like to try to manage a home, homeschool kids, and grow a business, only to end the day feeling exhausted and behind. For a long time, I chased perfection and tried to do it all on my own, but it only left me overwhelmed, always playing catch up, and often my day ended in tears.

Everything changed when I started giving my days and my to-do list to God. I traded the pressure of perfection for simple, faith-filled routines and learned to separate my work, homeschool time, and managing our home.

Now, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned with you! Each week, we’ll dive into:

✨Routines

✨Time Management

✨Boundaries

These are the areas that will help you gain your time back, protect your peace, and reduce the chaos.

I promise, there is a better way to do this. It’s time to trade the burnout for a life filled with grace, laughter, and simple routines. So, grab your cold brew, pop in those earbuds, and let’s start simplifying. 🧋✨🎧

  1. 55. Stop Putting Your Business Last: 3 Routines Working Moms Use to Make Time for Business

    Show notes

Are you trying to homeschool your kids, take care of your home, and grow your business, but your business always seems to come last?

You know you need to work on your business, but when? By the time you finish homeschooling, answer everyone's questions, make meals, and take care of the mom-life responsibilities, you realize your work time has disappeared...AGAIN!!

Mama, you don't necessarily need more hours in your day. You need routines that allow you to have better time management so you can run your business while being a present mom.

In today's episode, we're talking about three simple routines to help you make time for your business without feeling like you're choosing between being a good mom and a business owner.

We'll also look at the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38–42 and what it teaches us about busyness, priorities, and choosing what matters most.

In this episode, we'll talk about:

    • Why your business keeps getting pushed to the bottom of your to-do list.
    • Simple ways to make room for your business while homeschooling.
    • What Mary and Martha can teach us about busyness and priorities.
    • How to give yourself grace when your day doesn't go as planned.

    Your challenge this week

Choose one small step to make room for your business. Plan your priorities, schedule one protected work block, or create a list of business tasks you can complete in 15 minutes.

You don't have to do everything today. Start with one intentional step and build on that routine.

I invite you to join The Organize Your Day Coaching. In this coaching program, we spend time untangling your schedule and finding those pockets of time to work. We talk about ways to protect the homeschool and work block, while creating simple routines you can build on to be a present mom. I know how important work-life balance is and what a difference it can make.

  2. 54. Think You’re Failing at Homeschool? How Simple Routines and Mindset Shifts Help You Become a Present Mom with Heather Gilmour

    Show notes

Have you ever had one of those homeschool days where nothing seems to go right? Breakdowns, lying, cheating, no one is focusing. The kids aren't listening. The schoolwork isn't getting finished. Someone is frustrated, you're frustrated, and by the end of the day you're wondering, “What am I doing wrong?”

You know the days that can break you as a homeschool mom.

One hard homeschool day can quickly turn into believing you're failing as a homeschool mom.

But what if a hard day is just a hard day?

In this episode, I'm talking with veteran homeschool mom Heather Gilmour about what it really looks like to keep going when homeschool feels hard. After homeschooling six children over the years, Heather shares the perspective she wishes more homeschool moms had when the hard days come.

We talk about how simple routines, flexibility, time management, and changing the way we think about difficult moments can help us stop carrying guilt into the rest of our day. And become the present mom we want to be.

In this episode, we talk about:

    • Why a hard homeschool day doesn't mean you're failing
    • How to separate what actually happened from the thoughts you attach to it
    • Why your child's struggles don't automatically mean you've done something wrong
    • How simple routines and practical responsibilities can help children grow in independence
    • Why flexibility is an important part of homeschooling
    • Knowing when to stop pushing and try another day again
    • How to protect your relationship with your children when schoolwork becomes frustrating
    • Why homeschooling doesn't have to look like an eight-hour school day
    • How hands-on learning and real-life experiences can be just as valuable as traditional schoolwork
    • The importance of asking God for wisdom and remembering that our children are a blessing
    • Why the hard days are only a small part of the bigger picture

Heather also shares encouragement from her years of homeschooling and reminds us that we don't have to get every homeschool day right to be faithful moms.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is take a breath, adjust our expectations, give ourselves and our kids some grace, and simply do the next best thing.

Heather Gilmour is a veteran homeschool mom who has homeschooled six children over the years. Now that most of her children are grown, she has a unique perspective on the years that can feel so overwhelming while you're living them.

Her heart is to encourage younger homeschool moms and remind them that the hard days don't define their homeschool—or their motherhood.

Want help creating routines that actually work for your homeschool and business?

If you're a working homeschool mom trying to figure out your schedule so you can have work-life balance in your homeschool, your business, and being present with your kids, I'd love to help. There is a better way to do this.

    A reminder for you today

A hard homeschool day does not make you a bad homeschool mom.

Give yourself some grace. Ask God for wisdom. Take the next best step.

You don't have to do everything perfectly to be a faithful, present mom.

  3. 53. Before You Say Yes to Anything: 3 Time Management Routines You Need in Place as a Working Mom

    Show notes

Before you say yes to one more thing, ask yourself: Where is this going to fit?

As a working mom and homeschool mom, your days are already full. You’re homeschooling, running your business, managing your home, feeding everyone, getting kids where they need to go, while trying to be a present mom.

So why does it feel like you’re constantly running out of time and always behind?

The problem isn’t that you need more hours in the day. You need simple time management routines that help you decide where your time should go before your schedule decides for you.

In this episode, we’re talking about three simple routines I want every working homeschool mom to have in place before saying yes to anything else.

These time management routines can help you stop reacting to your schedule and start creating a more intentional rhythm for your homeschool, business, home, and family.

Because work-life balance isn’t about making every area of your life perfectly equal. It’s about knowing what matters most in this season and creating routines and boundaries that help you make room for it.

And when you have a plan for your time, you can spend less of your day thinking about everything you should be doing, and more of your day actually being a present mom.

In this episode, we’ll talk about:

    • Why constantly saying yes can leave a working mom feeling like she has no time
    • How weekly planning routines can help a homeschool mom build her week before it begins
    • Why your priorities need a place on your calendar
    • How these simple routines can support better work-life balance
    • The question every working homeschool mom should ask before saying yes to something new
    • How better time management can create more margin to be a present mom

Before you say yes to anything new, ask:

    “Where does this fit?”

If you don't know where it fits, pause before adding it to your schedule.

Remember, the goal isn't to create a perfect schedule.

The goal is to create simple routines that support your work-life balance, your homeschool, your business, and your ability to be a present mom.

  10. 48. Stop Waiting for Life to Slow Down: 3 Healthy Routines Every Working Homeschool Mom Needs w/ Courtney Greedy

    Show notes

When are you finally going to have time to take care of yourself?

When the homeschool gets easier? When the kids need you less? When your business slows down or you hire someone?

The truth is, life probably isn’t going to slow down. And if you keep waiting for the “perfect” time to take care of yourself, you may keep putting your own health and energy last.

As a working homeschool mom, you’re juggling your kids, homeschool, your business, your home, and all the little things that seem to need your attention every day. But taking care of yourself doesn’t have to mean adding another complicated routine to your already-full schedule.

In this episode, I’m talking with Courtney Greedy from Healthy Habits for Homeschool Moms about creating healthy routines that actually fit into real life. We’re talking about the small, intentional habits that can help you have more energy, take better care of yourself, and show up as the mom and business owner you want to be.

We also talk about why waiting for life to slow down can keep you stuck, how rest can sometimes be the most productive thing you can do, and why your kids benefit from seeing you model healthy habits, too.

You don’t need an hour at the gym or a completely different schedule. You can start right where you are with small routines that support the life you’re already living.

In this episode, we talk about:

    • Why waiting for life to slow down may be keeping you from taking care of yourself
    • The connection between healthy habits, energy, and how you show up for your family
    • Why sleep and rest need to be part of your routine
    • Simple ways to make healthy eating work when you’re homeschooling and running a business
    • How to fit movement into a busy day without needing a huge block of time
    • Why consistency matters more than trying to be perfect
    • How your children learn healthy habits by watching you
    • Knowing when your body needs rest instead of pushing through
    • How simple routines can help you have more energy for your kids, business, and marriage

    A reminder for you, mama:

Life isn’t going to slow down. You don’t have to wait for it to take care of yourself.

You can start small. You can make room for healthy habits right in the middle of your real, messy, busy life.

And sometimes, taking care of yourself looks less like doing more and more like knowing when it’s time to rest.

Want to Talk About Your Own Routines?

And if listening to this episode has you thinking, “Okay, but how do I actually make time for all of this when I’m homeschooling and trying to grow my business?” I’d love to chat with you.

  11. 47. Is Your Morning Destroying Your Day? How to Fix Your Morning Routine as a Working Homeschool Mom

    Show notes

Does your morning feel like it's always falling apart?

As a working homeschool mom, your morning has a lot riding on it. You’re getting yourself ready, getting the kids moving, starting homeschool, managing your home, taking care of yourself, and trying to make time for work—all before the day has really begun.

But what if you don’t need a perfect morning routine? What if you simply need a routine that actually works for your family and the season you're in?

Today we are talking about morning routines. I’m walking you through my own morning routine and what I’ve learned about creating a morning that doesn’t leave me feeling behind. I am also going to help you identify the parts of your morning that are destroying your day.

We’ll talk about why predictable routines matter, how to give your kids more responsibility in the morning, and what you can do the night before to make mornings easier.

I am going to show you five steps you can take to build a morning routine around the life you’re actually living, not the life you think your morning is supposed to look like.

    Your Simplified Step This Week

Don’t try to completely overhaul your morning tomorrow.

Instead, figure out what the one thing is that consistently makes your morning harder. I am telling you in the episode what the one thing in my morning routine was that was derailing my day.

    Ask yourself:

What could I change, prepare, delegate, or eliminate to make this easier?

    Start there.

You don't need a perfect morning. You need a rhythm that helps you and your family.

A simplified morning isn't about fitting more into your morning. It's about removing the chaos so you have more time for what actually matters.

On Friday, October 23 at 2:00 pm EST, I am hosting a free 45-minute coffee chat for the working homeschool mom. Show notes

Does your schedule feel like it’s getting out of control? Do you feel the weight on your shoulders getting heavier and heavier? Between homeschool, work, activities, appointments, meals, and all the everyday things that come with being a mom, it’s easy to find yourself constantly feeling stressed out. Are you trying to fit more into your day?

But what if the answer isn’t a better schedule or another productivity hack? What if you need to simplify instead? What if it meant not starting new routines?

Today, we’re talking about what to do when your season gets busier and the routines that once worked no longer seem to fit. You’ll learn how to simplify your routines, create boundaries around what matters, and turn to God for wisdom instead of trying to figure everything out on your own.

We’ll talk about how to recognize when your routines need to change, why you don’t have to say yes to everything you can technically fit into your schedule, and how simplifying your days can create more space to be the present mom you want to be.

Most importantly, you’ll be encouraged to pause, pray, and ask God what belongs in this season of your family’s life—and what you can let go of.

You don't need to fit everything into your schedule just because you can.

Sometimes becoming a more present mom doesn't require finding more time, it means simplifying your day.

Pause. Pray. Simplify. Make room for what matters.

You don't have to do it all to be a good mom. You can simplify your days, protect what matters, and create more space to be present with the people you love.

    Quotes and Bible Verses

Quote - Just because you can fit it into your calendar doesn't mean it belongs in your life.

    Bible Verses -

Psalms 46:10 be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.

1 Peter 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares for you.

  16. 42. Work Life Balance Over Burnout: How High-Achieving Working Moms Stop Perfectionism with Josie Anderson

    Show notes

If you are constantly overwhelmed and snapping at everyone, it's because you don't have boundaries in place to prevent burnout. As working moms, we are often overachievers and constantly think we need to say yes to everything and try to do it all.

Today I am chatting with Josie from The Ambitious Mindset Podcast. Together we are exploring emotions and subconscious patterns that lead to overwhelm in the home and burnout for the working mom. Josie shares 6 practical faith strategies and habits to restore peace, set healthier boundaries, and prioritize self-care without all the mom guilt.

The 6 Wellness & Boundary Strategies

    •

Ask for Support: Communicating needs isn't failure; hold peaceful family meetings before reaching a breaking point.

    •

Let Go of Control: Micromanaging stems from pride and fear—trust God and allow others to help.

    •

Lower Unrealistic Expectations: Allow children to complete household tasks their own way to build confidence and give yourself grace.

    •

Practice Morning Mindfulness & Stillness: Dedicate 5–30 minutes every morning to prayer, silence, and grounding before the day starts.

    •

Set Work & Digital Boundaries: Learn to say "no" or communicate capacity limits at work, and consider weekend social media fasts to reclaim focus.

    •

Invest in Your Personal Well-being: Fill your own cup first so you can care for your family from abundance rather than depletion.

Four Key Points for the Working Homeschool

    •

Unpack the Mindset: High achievers are often conditioned to "push through" emotions, leading to subconscious triggers and sudden emotional outbursts at home.

    •

Break the Cycle: Perfectionism and people-pleasing model unrealistic standards for children—especially young daughters who observe how parents handle failure and body image.

    •

Mind the Stats: 80% of human thoughts are negative and 95% are repetitive. Common stressors like pile-ups in laundry are usually symptoms of deeper limiting beliefs about a lack of support.

    •

Start Small: Implement only one strategy at a time to build sustainable, long-term daily habits rather than overwhelming your routine.

We need to remember that we don't need to strive to be perfect and to lean on God.

Have you ever closed your work laptop at 5:00 PM, walked into the kitchen, stared into the fridge, and felt an immediate wave of dread when your kids asked, "What's for dinner?" Or you have had to hit the drive-thru on your way home after soccer practice?

Work-life balance doesn't break down during your 9-to-5 day, it breaks down because you aren't meal planning and meal prepping for the week.

In this episode, I am talking about how when we don't meal plan, it just adds to our decision fatigue

A simple meal planning routine can buy back your peace of mind, save your household budget, and help you transition from overwhelmed working mom to calm, present parent. As working moms, we all want work-life balance, meal planning is a way to get us there.

What happens to your evening mood when dinner is already solved before your workday even ends, and you don't have to get takeout for dinner?

When you meal plan, it gives you time to work and time to spend with your family. Maybe even have time for a game of Phase 10.

    Show notes

Grab you cold brew and let's dive into this episode how to do devotions with your kids and let go of guilt.

Do you feel the weight of "failure" when your homeschool day doesn't match the rigid schedule you set? You’re not failing—you’re likely just performing. In this episode, I’m joined by children's ministry expert Samantha Watson to explore how to trade performance for presence. We’re discussing how to weave faith into the fabric of your daily family routines, prioritizing lasting peace over temporary productivity.

In this episode, we explore how to authentically model biblical principles in your daily life, focusing on how to replace guilt with grace by reframing "failure" as a powerful testament to God’s faithfulness for your children. We discuss practical ways to use music and nature, and share simple, intentional habits that can be built into your life. Ultimately, we dive into how you can redefine busyness, moving away from the exhaustion of living "under the yoke" and toward a life of true, faith-led stillness.

Things we can work on as working homeschool moms

    •

Modeling faith is a lifestyle, not a performance.

    •

Building a spiritual home requires tools like storytelling and music, not just rigid schedules.

    •

Prioritize your own personal devotional time; your children will naturally become curious when they see you modeling it.
