SideOneDummy Records was founded in 1995 by Joe Sib and Bill Armstrong, who combined their separate labels, SideOne Records and Dummy Recordings, into one independent operation. Over the years, the label helped introduce bands like Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem, and Gogol Bordello to wider audiences. Its catalog also includes releases from PUP and Jeff Rosenstock, reflecting its strong connection to punk and alternative music. sideonedummy.com Before building the label, Sib made his own mark on the scene as the frontman of Wax and later 22 Jacks. …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead formed in Austin, Texas in the mid-'90s, led by longtime creative partners Conrad Keely and Jason Reece. The band quickly became known for explosive live shows, smashed gear, instrument swapping, and a sound that blended post-hardcore, noise rock, punk, and indie rock. Their early albums built a strong underground following before they signed with Interscope Records and released Source Tags & Codes in 2002. That album became the band's breakthrough, featuring songs like "Another Morning Stoner," "Relative Ways," and "How Near, How Far." Over the years, Trail of Dead continued experimenting with everything from sprawling concept albums to progressive and orchestral rock while keeping their raw energy intact. Ep. 279: Matt Allison
Season 2, Episode 279
Show notes
Matt Allison is a Chicago-based music producer known for capturing the raw, unpolished energy of punk, emo, and indie bands without sanding off their personality. Working out of his Atlas Studios, he's helped shape records for bands like Alkaline Trio, The Lawrence Arms, and The Menzingers, giving them that punchy, lived-in sound that feels like a basement show bottled up. His production style leans toward honesty over perfection, letting grit and character sit front and center instead of hiding behind glossy overproduction. In a world of hyper-edited music, Allison's work feels like a deep breath of analog air, where imperfections become the hook. He's quietly become one of the go-to architects of modern punk's sonic identity, even if his name stays just outside the spotlight.

Ep. 278: Student Rick w/ Adam Reiter
Season 2, Episode 278
Show notes
Student Rick was an emo band from South Bend, Indiana. They gained recognition for their song "Falling for You," featured on Soundtrack for a Generation and included in the video games Aggressive Inline and Amped 2. The song was often misattributed online to bands like Taking Back Sunday and Simple Plan during the file-sharing era. Formed in the late '90s, the band solidified their lineup in 2000 and signed to Victory Records in 2001, releasing their debut album later that year. They toured extensively, including the 2002 Vans Warped Tour, but faced lineup changes and injuries along the way. Due to creative differences, Student Rick broke up in November 2002, with members later forming other projects like Hello Vegas and Say Say.

Formed in late 90s Northern California, Tsunami Bomb stood out immediately, blending sharp lyrics, melodic hooks, keyboards as a true lead instrument, and dual female vocals into a sound that mixed punk urgency with pop instincts and a darker edge. Early releases like The Invasion from Within! and constant touring built a global following, while 2002's The Ultimate Escape on Kung Fu Records pushed them further, later landing on Rolling Stone's Top 50 pop punk albums of all time. After lineup shifts and a long hiatus, they returned in 2015 with founding members Dominic Davi, Oobliette Sparks, and Gabriel Lindman alongside Kate Jacobi and Andy Pohl, ushering in a new era that led to 2019's The Spine That Binds on Alternative Tentacles. Still evolving, they've continued touring the U.S. and Europe, and in 2026 teamed with Hammerbombs for the split EP Bombs Away! on Rad Girlfriend Records, proving that nearly three decades in, Tsunami Bomb is still restless, relevant, and very much alive.
