What does it mean to say that is a square… or that is a frog… or that is an doctor. How to determine what something is, is one of the things Aristotle is most famous for. More than 2000 years ago he gave us some incredibly useful tools to help us with this issue.
And once you understand them, I think you’ll immediately see why the modern gender debates go off the rails.

Are we saved by works? By Faith? By Grace? What if people totally misunderstand what Paul is saying because they are using Paul to answer questions Paul wasn’t even asking? What if the reformers were using Paul to try and justify their break from the catholic when Paul himself was trying to deal with an entirely different situation.

I recently jumped into a live conversation on X with two Protestants named Lizzie, both of whom have become well known for their steady stream of posts criticizing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

They had invited Latter-day Saints to join the Space and defend what we actually believe while several Protestants challenged us on everything from LDS doctrine to Church history.

I was content to listen—until the conversation turned to the Great Apostasy.

That’s when I decided to jump in.

What followed was a wide-ranging and surprisingly intense discussion about the early Christian Church, apostolic authority, and whether the historical evidence actually supports the Protestant narrative about what happened to Christianity after the apostles.

And then, toward the end, the conversation took a turn I definitely wasn’t expecting.
