  3. Three-Inning Save: Dalton Rushing & Will Klein have elbow surgery, but just rest for Shohei Ohtani

    Episode 2653

    Show notes

Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani will not need surgery for his left knee nor right biceps injuries, instead advised to rest this offseason. But catcher Dalton Rushing and pitcher Will Klein did have elbow surgeries on October 21.

Rushing had an internal brace procedure to repair a partially torn UCL, and will need at least nine months before catching again, so after the 2027 All-Star break. He’s expected to be able to hit well before then. Klein had surgery to remove bone chips and clean up a bone spur in his right elbow, the injury that sidelined him after July 31. Klein is expected to be ready for spring training.

Plus, we look at the Dodgers roster at the start of the offseason, and see what needs might arise.

  4. Three-Inning Save: Dodgers swept away by Brewers in NLCS

    Episode 2652

    Show notes

One year after sweeping the Brewers in the NLCS, the Dodgers were swept away in 2026 by Milwaukee in four games, including the final two losses at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

In both games at home, the Dodgers had a lead and the Brewers came back. Blake Snell had a great start until he didn’t, Tyler Glasnow retired 10 straight to open Game 4 but recorded only four more outs. Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers figured prominently all series, and he won NLCS MVP.

The Dodgers offense had fits all series, scoring only 11 runs in four games, struggling especially against Aaron Ashby and the back end of the Brewers bullpen.

Shohei Ohtani was adamant he was healthy enough to play and close to figuring things out, and Dave Roberts backed him. Ohtani reached base twice in Game 3 and homered in Game 4, the Dodgers’ only home run of the series. Ohtani was asked if any offseason surgeries might be needed for his knee and biceps, and he said it’s “hard to tell at this point.”

Also, Miguel Rojas retired after 13 seasons as a player. He’ll move into the Dodgers front office in some capacity.

  5. Three-Inning Save: NLCS heads back to Los Angeles with Dodgers down 2-0

    Episode 2651

    Show notes

The first two games in Milwaukee were close, but the Dodgers dropped them both in excruciating fashion, and trail the National League Championship Series two games to none.

Tarik Skubal allowed two runs in Game 1 but the Dodgers only scored once. Yoshinbou Yamamoto recorded only eight outs in Game 2, felled by a 12-pitch walk and 36 pitches in his final frame.

Brewers keep getting the big hit while the Dodgers cannot. They might not have scored in Game 2 at all were it not for starting pitcher Logan Henderson making two throwing errors and a wild pitch that led to four runs.

Shohei Ohtani looks lost at the plate and might sit as early as Game 3. Though nobody in the NLCS led by more than one run until the eighth inning of Game 2, the Dodgers look like they are playing uphill against the Brewers.

Back at Dodger Stadium, Blake Snell starts Game 3 for the Dodgers on Wednesday against Brewers left-hander Robert Gasser. Tyler Glasnow starts Game 4, and should the series last that long, Skubal will start Game 5.

  7. Three-Inning Save: Dodgers beat Braves twice in Atlanta to win NLDS

    Episode 2649

    Show notes

The Dodgers beat the Braves in Games 3 and 4 in Atlanta to clinch the 2026 National League Division Series.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the star of Game 3, with 10 strikeouts in seven innings to win his fifth straight postseason appearance, all on the road. Dodgers October stalwart Kiké Hernández homered off Chris Sale in Game 3, as did a resurgent Freddie Freeman.

In Game 4, Tyler Glasnow walked five but allowed only one run, and the bullpen got the final 13 outs, five of them by Edgardo Henriquez, and Edwin Díaz picked up his second save in a row, looking like his usual self after a season of injuries.

Andy Pages had the game-winning two-run single in the clinching Game 4, turning things around after a disastrous postseason at the plate in 2025.

Manager Dave Roberts after the NLDS has 72 career postseason wins, surpassing Tony La Russa for second-most all-time, now a dozen wins behind Joe Torre.

  8. Three-Inning Save: Dodgers & Braves split first two NLDS games in LA

    Episode 2648

    Show notes

The Dodgers and Braves split the first two games of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium, with one good start by Tarik Skubal in Game 1 and a bad start by Blake Snell in Game 2.

We talk the good (home runs!) and bad (no hits with runners in scoring position) of the Dodgers offense in two games, plus concerns about Shohei Ohtani.

Also, the Dodgers failed to capitalize on two Braves bullpen games, with bulk relievers Dylan Dodd, Ray Kerr, and Didier Fuentes standing out for Atlanta in particular. Fuentes finished one out shy of allowing Eric to witness a postseason four-inning save in person.

The NLDS now heads to Atlanta, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Chris Sale lined up for an epic pitching matchup in Game 3, followed by Tyler Glasnow and Tyler Mahle in Game 4. The Dodgers need to win at least once in Atlanta to play another postseason game at home.

  11. Three-Inning Save: Oklahoma City wins Triple-A championship

    Episode 2645

    Show notes

The Oklahoma City Comets won the Pacific Coast League championship series and then won the Triple-A national championship game, capping off a productive season for Dodgers minor league affiliates.

All four full-season affiliates made the postseason, and three levels saw Dodgers minor leaguers win league MVP – top prospect Josue De Paula in the Double-A Texas League, outfielder Charles Davalan in the High-A Midwest League, and first baseman Easton Shelton in the Class-A California League.

In addition, Scott Hennessey in Triple-A, Eric Wedge in Double-A, and Jair Fernandez in Great Lakes all won manager of the year.

With De Paula making his major league debut in September and fellow top-100 prospect Mike Sirota reaching Triple-A in the final week-plus of the season, coupled with major-league-ready outfielders James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard already with Oklahoma City, the Dodgers have a lot of functional minor league depth they can tap into as needed in 2027.

  16. Three-Inning Save: Josue De Paula says hello

    Episode 2640

    Show notes

Josue De Paula, the Dodgers’ top prospect, has impressed in his big league debut, commanding the strike zone since getting promoted directly from Double-A Tulsa.

De Paula got a runway of playing time with Shohei Ohtani placed on the injured list with right biceps inflammation, opening up designated hitter. We look back at Ohtani’s timeline of his slump since mid-August, the attempts to rest him and avoid the IL proving futile, plus how the Dodgers deferring to Ohtani may have exacerbated the situation.

Plus, updates on the pitching scramble of the final two weeks, Emmet Sheehan the victim of the fresh arm express, Edgardo Henriquez getting injured, Kris Bubic due back soon and Edwin Díaz very much not. Plus timing on when Roki Sasaki might return.

  20. Three-Inning Save: Shohei Ohtani pitching pause & farewell to ho-hum August

    Episode 2636

    Show notes

Dodgers had a rough road trip, getting swept by the Braves to lose the season tiebreaker to Atlanta, which could affect playoff seeding. And Shohei Ohtani’s return to pitching is on hold as he deals with knee and biceps issues.

Offense was the culprit in dropping four of six games in Atlanta and Detroit, scoring just 11 runs in the first 5 games of the trip, ending a disappointing August that saw the Dodgers go just 13-14 while averaging under four runs per game.

Plus, Tyler Glasnow was fantastic in his return from the injured list. Will Smith is back this week. Blake Treinen and Justin Wrobleski could soon follow. Roki Sasaki landed on the injured list with a blister. And rosters expand from 26 to 28 on September 1.
