Elizabeth Oldfield @elizabethsaraholdfield
Season 1, Episode 154
Show notes
Tonight we started as always with a quick chat with George and he asked us a garden question, this week about the largest ever pumpkin.
Also we some how got talking about a game called knock down ginger which Jamie used to play when he was younger, who else has heard of it?
Our guest tonight is the author of a wonderful book I have just finished called Fully Alive, all about how we need to become better humans are reconnect with each other to form more empathetic cohesive communities.
Elizabeth is from a family of exceptional gardeners and has in the last few years discovered that she too has the passion for gardening and is learning through trial and error how to produce food for her community.
What a nourishing conversation about how trying something that could be tricky and difficult has resulted in a successful mini community living experience that would be horrifying to most people but has worked for them.
If we are going to survive the turbulent times ahead we all need to be brave and try new things, they might turn in to something unexpected.
Thanks everyone for joining in with the conversation, join us again next week same time same place.

Daniel Puicar @danielpuicar
Season 1, Episode 153
Show notes
We start with a question from George as always, this week about where 70% of the oxygen in the planet comes from.
Our guest tonight is more than just a guest, I would consider him a friend. A fellow head gardener battling with limited resources to deliver as high a quality of garden as possible.
He has the added pressure that it’s an open garden in a historical site with areas of SSSI.
We spoke about the fact raw sewage is being discharge by the local sewage plant on to the lake on the site which has SSSI status and there’s nothing they can do to stop it.
We finally got on to talking about mushrooms in various different forms. Daniel is trying to get as much fungal life in the garden to help the plant to survive the threat of our changing climate.
Thanks everyone for watching and listening, join us again next week for another guest from the world of horticulture 💚

Marcus Beck @big_wood_cabin 😍
Season 1, Episode 152
Show notes
We start as always with a quick chat with George and a garden question, this week all about which species of plants that provide all the food for the human race.
Tonight’s guest is definitely living the dream, living off grid in a sustainable cabin in the woods. Built from wood milled from the trees.
How incredible for Marcus to have played and made dens in the woodland as a kid then go on to build his own house for his family in the same woodland.
It was also great to hear about the community garden that they are part of that helps them share skills and labour with the added return of fresh vegetables.
I can’t wait to see the greenhouse come together and the bio digester. It’s great to see someone living sustainably and comfortably with the mod cons we have all got used too.
Make sure you give Marcus a follow and also check out the episode of @granddesignstv
Thanks everyone for watching and listening, join us again next week for another fantastic guest 💚

Josh Taylor @josh_the_gardener
Season 1, Episode 151
Show notes
We started as we always do with a quick chat with George and his garden question, this week about snails. What a fabulous fact I don’t think many people knew.
Tonight we have Josh Taylor who is a garden designer and consultant at the moment but he has had some fantastic experiences in his career including at Great Dixter.
He is also trying to highlight some really serious problems in horticulture firstly the pay which for the amount of skill that is involved and years that it takes to acquire those skills should be a lot higher. Then the much more but possibly related subject suicide, and the statistics are startling.
We also chatted about how organic gardening is not just better for the planet but also more cost effective.
The climate crisis is also another subject that can not be denied by people on the front line seeing the changes in front of our very eyes. Josh describes this past year as his most challenging in horticulture.

We start with George Christmas list before we actually get on to some garden chat and George’s garden question, this week about sugar cane 🦯
What a pleasure to have Izzy on again and to talk to him about all the success he has had with his social media and more importantly about plants!
Izzy has had some great experiences this year and even got to visit the kings personal garden Highgrove with @gardenwithjonny
I love how passionate and authentic Izzy is about gardening and completely agree with him that fighting climate change starts at home!
After seeing how resilient the woodland is at work it gives me hope for the future and what ornamental gardening might look like.
Thanks everyone for watching listening and joining in the conversation and chat as ever. See you all next week for another great chat 💚

Fantastic chat that could have gone on for hours, Teddy has had some incredible experiences of how food is produced in other countries and end up in our supermarkets, yet we don’t know the face that poured love in to producing it
Farming has to change before it’s to late, I encourage you all to go and sign his petition in his bio and let’s put pressure on the EU to start the ball rolling on #savethesoil

Chay Godfree @cropsnotshops ✝️
Season 1, Episode 140
Show notes
We started as we always start with chaos and a gardening question from George. This week it was about bulbs.
Tonight we had a guest who’s mission is to help change the way we live as a society, he believes we should be growing food as a community and not relying on the shops.
I loved how Chay has found a connection to nature that has made his life complete and now he wants to inspire more people to break away from the systems that are controlling us all.
My vote is for him to be the next Prime Minister 💚
It’s incredible what you can achieve with a community, in less than 11 week they have created a growing space and are harvesting from it.

Welcome to another episode, this week we are slowly baking alive in the dehumidifier formally known as United Kingdom, we start as ever with a chat with George and his famous gardening question. Who will win this week Jamie, Marc or will George stump them both.
Tonight’s guest is a geologist with nearly 40 years experience having working on projects all over the world.
He has now moved in to the world of horticulture to teach gardeners, farmers, developers, landowners, estates and horticulturalists in the biological/soil food web approach to
gardening and growing at all scales.
His understanding of the way mycorrhiza work in the soil is incredible our minds were absolutely blown, you have probably all heard the word bit maybe don’t understand the science behind it.

Paul Foster @alliumgardeners 😂💚
Season 1, Episode 138
Show notes
We start as always with a chat with George and his gardening question, this week all about Raspberries.
Marc and Jamie chatted about what they had been up too in their gardens, Marc gave a Robomower update from work.
Our guest tonight is someone with over 32 years experience in the world of horticulture, specialising in creating gardens that are naturalistic and wildlife friendly. He is very passionate about making the world a better place for all and even has a petition to try and force change with new build estates to be more sympathetic with nature and green spaces.
Sign Paul’s petition https://c.org/4T4nTzV5Fm
I love hearing how Paul creates gardens with nature and wildlife at the forefront rather than an afterthought. Which also leads to a much smaller cost than traditional hard landscaping and garden design.

Jack Wallington @jackwallingtonnature
Season 1, Episode 136
Show notes
We start as we always do with George’s gardening question this week about Radish. We all now need to sow some and see if the answer is correct.
Tonight our guest was Jack who is a life long nature lover, a gardener, a designer, a writer who has featured in @gardenersworldmag @guardian @gardens_illustrated and many others, as well as being the author of Wild about Weeds and A Greener Life. I would also add artist on to the list.
We geeked out about compost our favourite topic, and even about how Jamie plans to use goats to stop him having to use weed killer.
What an incredible stat that over 40% of UK gardens are paved over, we definitely need to start reducing that number.
We definitely need to check out the tile whacking in Europe 😂

Nick Patel @_wilderskies_ 🌿
Season 1, Episode 135
Show notes
We start as always with George’s garden question, this week about lawn mowers and when they were invented.
Tonight we have a wildlife expert which you would think has nothing to do with gardening but in my opinion the two are very closely linked and the more natural we can make our gardens the better.
It’s interesting to think about what plant you need to atract a certain insect and how specific those insect can be.
If you are ever in the south west and want to have a nature tour with Nick check out his website and follow him on Instagram.
Let’s hope his Birdfoot trefoil attracts the small blue butterflies he want to see on his garden, also keep an eye out for Painted lady butterflies as it’s expected to be a good year for them.
