  1. Cindy Song

    Episode 489

    Show notes

On Halloween night in 2001, 21-year-old Penn State student Cindy Song went out with friends to celebrate. After the party, Cindy was dropped off at her apartment around 4:00 a.m., and evidence suggests she made it safely inside. But sometime afterward, Cindy disappeared without a trace. Her purse, keys, identification, and the Halloween costume she had been wearing were gone, while her cell phone and other belongings remained behind.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss Cindy Song. Extensive searches produced few answers, and investigators were left with no crime scene and little evidence explaining what happened. Years later, the case took a disturbing turn when convicted killer Hugo Selenski emerged as a person of interest, but investigators have never been able to prove his involvement. More than two decades later, Cindy Song remains missing, and the question of what happened after she returned home that Halloween night remains unanswered.

In 2018, 25-year-old Trish Haynes disappeared under mysterious circumstances after returning to New Hampshire from Florida to deal with a pending court case. Their worst fears were eventually confirmed when Trish’s dismembered remains were discovered inside a washer and dryer submerged in Grants Pond in Grafton, New Hampshire.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss Trish Haynes. Her death was ruled a homicide, but no one has ever been charged with her murder. Eight years later, investigators say they believe they have collected the available physical evidence and are now waiting for someone within Trish’s inner circle to come forward with the information needed to finally bring her family justice.

  3. Michael O'Mara

    Episode 487

    Show notes

On May 30th, 1988, Cook County Sheriff’s Police Captain Michael O’Mara left his Illinois home to run an errand, promising his family he would bring back frozen yogurt. Hours later, the 48-year-old law enforcement veteran was found dead in a field near the Markham Courthouse with a gunshot wound to the head and his service weapon beside him. Authorities initially concluded that O’Mara had taken his own life, but his family and several colleagues were convinced something far more sinister had happened.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the mysterious death of Captain Michael O’Mara and the lingering question of whether he died by suicide or was the victim of murder. Questions surrounding the physical evidence, missed investigative leads, possible enemies from O’Mara’s long career, and allegations that investigators rushed to judgment eventually led the medical examiner to change the manner of death to undetermined.

    Show notes

On September 25th, 1981, 58-year-old Polly Melton went hiking with two friends along the Deep Creek Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As the women headed back toward their campsite, Polly suddenly picked up her pace, rounded a bend, and disappeared from sight. Her friends were only moments behind her, but when they reached the bend, Polly was gone. An extensive search involving park rangers, volunteers, and tracking dogs found no trace of her.

Polly knew the area well, carried no purse, money, cigarettes, or identification, and had left dinner preparations waiting back at her campsite. Over the years, theories have ranged from a medical emergency or abduction to the possibility that Polly deliberately vanished to begin a new life. 6. Terry Fetner

    Episode 484

    Show notes

In November 2000, 44-year-old Terry “Dale” Fetner was living in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina, after a suspicious fire damaged his home just months earlier. On the evening of November 26, Dale returned from working on a mountain home he was building and was attacked near the entrance to his apartment. A neighbor later found him face down outside the complex, stabbed 15 times. Nothing was stolen, and investigators believed Dale had been specifically targeted and had fought fiercely with his attacker.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the murder of Terry Fetner. Despite extensive interviews, large rewards, DNA testing, and renewed attention from Greenville’s cold case unit, police have never publicly named a suspect. Investigators have also questioned whether the suspicious fire at Dale’s home could be connected to his murder. Nearly 26 years later, Dale’s family is still waiting for answers, and authorities hope advances in DNA testing or the right tip may finally reveal who killed him and why.

  9. Mitrice Richardson Part 1

    Episode 481

    Show notes

In September 2009, 24-year-old Mitrice Richardson was arrested at a Malibu restaurant after she couldn’t pay an $89 bill and was acting strangely. Despite her unusual behavior and concerns expressed by her family, Mitrice was released from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station around 12:15 a.m. without her car, phone, money, or transportation. She was 40 miles from home in an unfamiliar area. Her mother reported her missing the following morning, but authorities delayed issuing a BOLO and waited two days to conduct their first search.

Join Mike and Gibby for part 1 of their episodes on Mitrice Richardson. A witness later reported seeing a woman matching Mitrice’s description near Monte Nido, where investigators found sneaker tracks. Her disappearance generated controversy over the sheriff’s handling of her arrest and release, while authorities later concluded she may have suffered a severe mental health crisis after going days without sleep. Nearly a year later, Mitrice’s body was discovered in Malibu Canyon, several miles from where she was last seen. Her cause of death was classified as undetermined, leaving her family convinced that unanswered questions remain about what happened to her.

    Show notes

In 1967, 54-year-old Alfred Swinscoe disappeared after leaving the Miners Arms pub in Pinxton, England. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the disappearance and discovery of Alfred Swinscoe. In 2024, police identified two deceased suspects, including a family friend with a history of violence who may have followed Alfred from the pub. 12. Peter Kensler

    Episode 479

    Show notes

On February 3, 1976, Michigan attorney Peter Kensler left his office in Manchester and headed home to his rural property in Sharon Township. The 36-year-old lawyer was shot twice with a 20-gauge shotgun outside his home, including a fatal point-blank shot to the face. His briefcase was missing, and investigators quickly discovered several possible motives, including Kensler’s bitter split from prominent attorney James Hendley and a controversial takeover of Union Savings Bank. Kensler had also been living a private second life in Detroit.

Join Mike and Gibby as they talk about the murder of Peter Kensler. The investigation was plagued by problems from the beginning, with the crime scene compromised and investigators unable to gather enough evidence to charge anyone. A longtime friend became a prime suspect, and detectives later theorized that he may have brought another man to Kensler’s home to carry out the shooting. In 1982, an anonymous caller directed police to a river where they recovered a 20-gauge shotgun, but ballistic testing could neither confirm nor eliminate it as the murder weapon. Decades later, investigators still believe the killing may have been connected to Kensler’s personal life. In 2026, authorities confirmed that the case remains under active investigation after receiving “very viable” new information, including several names not publicly released. Fifty years after Peter Kensler’s murder, his family is still waiting for answers.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the disappearance of Zachary Bernhardt. Zachary's mother, Leah Hackett, has received some bad press over the years, and the police have even called her uncooperative at times. Her story about the night Zachary vanished is odd, but as far as we know, there is no evidence against her. Kevin G. Jalbert was arrested for crimes not directly related to Zachary's disappearance, but he once told someone he was responsible.

    Show notes

Today, we have something a little different for you: it’s the first episode of The Snare, from ABC News and 20/20.

The Snare examines the gruesome murder of 18-year-old Angie Dodge, who was killed in her apartment in Idaho Falls in 1996. As investigators hunted for her killer, DNA recovered from the crime scene pointed to an unidentified suspect. Despite the evidence, police built their case against another man, Chris Tapp, securing a conviction that later unraveled while the real killer remained at large. As the years passed, Angie’s mother Carol never gave up on a decades-long mission to uncover the truth. It took twenty long years, but finally, through Carol’s persistence and some incredible new DNA matching technology, Angie’s real killer was put behind bars. The Snare tells the whole story, including audio from Chris Tapp’s interrogation and so much more.

On July 28, 2021, Katie Janness and her dog, Bowie, were brutally stabbed to death while on a late-night walk in Atlanta's Piedmont Park. Nearly five years later, the case remains unsolved despite an extensive investigation involving the FBI, DNA analysis, and thousands of tips.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the murder of Katie Janness. Experts disagree whether this was a personal attack on Katie or an attack by a stranger. The type of injuries that Katie suffered would normally lean towards the perpetrator having some type of rage against the victim. It was clear to investigators that Bowie tried to defend Katie, and they are optimistic that DNA evidence may one day solve this case.
