Sandra Birchmore, Lindsay Clancy, and Christa Pike — What They Were Told and Who Paid
Show notes
Farwell demanded Sandra Birchmore re-earn his trust. Clancy's husband's lawyer told a judge Lindsay would testify she warned her providers. Tennessee said it followed protocol while Christa Pike woke up on a ventilator. Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke cover all three. Prosecutors allege Farwell ran Sandra's name through police databases, ordered her to delete texts, and told her to call him her brother. DNA excluded him as the father of Sandra's baby. Two Clancy civil lawsuits filed two days apart against many of the same doctors contradict each other on what the providers knew. Tennessee's corrections commissioner resigned after Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital. The governor paused executions through his remaining term. Farwell has pleaded not guilty.

The Killing of Charles Vallow: Daybell Case Part 2
Show notes
On July 11, 2019, Charles Vallow was shot twice in a Chandler, Arizona rental house by his brother-in-law, Alex Cox. Cox claimed self-defense and was never charged before his own death that December. Six years later, an Arizona jury convicted Lori Vallow Daybell of conspiring to murder her husband.
Part 2 of this docu-series lays out how it got there. Lori met author Chad Daybell on October 26, 2018, the date prosecutors say the conspiracy began. Over the following months, witnesses testified, Chad and Lori taught friends to rate people as light or dark and to see some as zombies whose bodies had been taken over. Charles, they said, was one of them.
Charles warned police, filed for divorce, named his fears to a lawyer, and moved his life insurance to his sister, Kay Woodcock. He emailed Tammy Daybell about the affair. In July, he moved back in with Lori to try to save the marriage, and planned an intervention with Lori's brother Adam.
Tony Brueski covers the shooting, the phone records, the 43 minutes before the 911 call, the texts that followed, and the death percentages Chad sent about Tammy and JJ. Part 2 ends with the family moving to Rexburg, Idaho.

Tennessee's Execution Reviewer Already Told Them What Was Wrong — They Didn't Listen
Show notes
The same person who reviewed Tennessee's execution procedures in 2022 is now reviewing Christa Pike's failed execution. The state ignored his recommendations then. Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke examine whether anything changes this time. Corrections Commissioner Frank Strada resigned after Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital on September 30th. Strada oversaw failed executions in Arizona before Lee brought him to Tennessee. Pike is dictating a statement from the infirmary because she cannot write. She says the pain hasn't stopped. Lee paused executions through his remaining term. The review carries no public deadline. Lee leaves office in January. Pike's lawyers argue a second attempt is unconstitutional. Colleen Slemmer's family has no resolution.

Farwell's Twin Walked Into Stoughton PD With THIS Written About Him
Show notes
When Stoughton swore in William Farwell on March 21, 2017, his file held a 2011 letter from the chief explaining exactly why he should never be a police officer. The department hired him anyway, with Robert Devine still on the force. Devine had run the Police Explorers program where the Farwell twins came up as teenagers, invited both back as instructors after they dropped out, and assured Chief Paul Shastany their childhood pranks had been cured by the military.
Matthew got his badge in 2012, and a fifteen-year-old Explorer named Sandra Birchmore got a friend request from him that October. Tony counts eight chances to stop the brothers, from a kid with a flashing light pulling over a driver to a State Police interview with no recording and no notes. Matthew Farwell is on trial and has pleaded not guilty. His brother testified with immunity. Devine denies the findings against him.

Patrick Clancy's Lawyer Said Lindsay Would Testify — Her Lawyer Said No
Show notes
Howard Cooper told a judge Lindsay Clancy would testify she warned her doctors about homicidal thoughts. Kevin Reddington denied it the same night. Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke break down what Cooper's courtroom promise means for the two civil lawsuits — filed two days apart, against many of the same doctors, making opposite arguments about what those doctors should have known. Patrick testified he asked Lindsay whether she needed to be kept away from the kids. She said no. No doctor or nurse ever told him not to leave her alone with the children. Tufts' notes show Lindsay reported fearing "something bad happening." Both suits say providers prescribed eight medications in weeks without proper monitoring and never explored what Lindsay's thoughts actually were.

Can Sandra Birchmore’s Broken Neck Bone Tell a Jury How She Died?
Show notes
Matthew Farwell’s bone expert gave the jury her numbers on November 2nd, and prosecutors asked where they’ve ever applied to someone Sandra Birchmore’s age. Heather Garvin testified a seated hanging puts seventeen to thirty-two percent of body weight on the strap. Sandra’s recorded weight was 161 pounds. Garvin cited a 2013 study putting the force needed to break a hyoid at about seven pounds. Garvin then agreed broken hyoids turn up more often in strangulations than hangings, agreed Sandra’s hyoid hadn’t fused and was more flexible, and agreed none of her studies look at a seated hanging in a person under forty. Asked to find one, she said she was having a difficult time locating it. Kentucky’s chief medical examiner and a forensic science professor from Maine testified too, both aimed at Dr. William Smock, the prosecution’s expert on how Sandra died. The defense expects to rest Wednesday, November 4th.

Sandra Birchmore's ME Ruling Changed — But It Didn't Say Homicide
Show notes
Sandra Birchmore's death was ruled a suicide. The state ME changed that determination — to "undetermined." Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke walk through whether the defense has enough to get one juror to doubt. DNA excluded Farwell as the father of Sandra's baby. The defense says no paternity means no exposure threat and no motive. Prosecutors presented evidence that Sandra and Farwell both believed the baby was his — she texted him congratulations about becoming a parent. No struggle evidence was found. No DNA under Sandra's nails. Sandra stood four foot ten. Farwell is six foot four. The federal charge requires proof he killed Sandra specifically to prevent her from reporting crimes to law enforcement. Farwell has pleaded not guilty.

Farwell's Twin Was With Sandra Too — What He Made HER Do Next
Show notes
Both Farwell brothers were involved with Sandra Birchmore. Prosecutors allege that when Matthew found out about William, he didn't confront his twin — he allegedly demanded Sandra re-earn his trust. Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke walk through the trial testimony that reveals what the prosecution calls an operational system of concealment: twenty-four criminal database searches, orders to delete texts, instructions to call him her older brother. William Farwell testified the brothers never discussed Sandra while she was alive. When Sandra's friend called Stoughton PD on January 20, 2021, and mentioned Farwell's name, trial testimony says he raged at the dispatcher and texted: "That girl is insane. Well, both of them are." Sandra's text back to Farwell: "I wish I was never born." Farwell is charged federally with killing Sandra. He has pleaded not guilty.

Nancy Guthrie: Coffindaffer Flew to Tucson — Here's What She Found
Show notes
Jennifer Coffindaffer stopped covering the Nancy Guthrie case from a distance and flew to Tucson. She walked the streets, looked at the porch, sat in the restaurant, drove toward Nogales, and talked to the neighborhood. She says the darkness story is a camera problem. She says evidence on the porch was never collected. She says the sheriff's Florida lab trip may not have been about Nancy. At El Charro she asked two dozen people what happened and nobody believes Nancy is alive. In the wealthiest part of the neighborhood she heard a theory that dropped her jaw, and she says there's one she's never put on air. All four segments with Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke on this edition of True Crime Today.

Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell Part 1: Two Books
Show notes
Every case has a before. In the Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell case, the before is where the warning signs are hiding in plain sight.
Part 1 of our docu-series starts with a tape. In October 2018, Lori Vallow sat in an Arizona living room and told her friends she had once planned to murder a man. She never said his name. Her third husband, Joseph Ryan, had died that April. Officially, it was heart disease. Unofficially, it is the first question mark in a story that would soon be full of them.
From there, Tony Brueski walks through Lori's life the way the record lays it out: the pageant stage, the game show, the marriages, the custody accusations a judge never sustained, and the day her brother Alex Cox was waiting in a parking lot for Joseph Ryan with a stun gun. Then Charles Vallow arrives, and with him JJ, a little boy his grandmother Kay Woodcock adored.
And then there's Chad Daybell. A gravedigger turned sexton turned end-times novelist who claimed near-death experiences, visions, and a prompting to move to Idaho. His wife Tammy built the business that made him a name. Friends and family pushed back as his ideas grew darker. Tammy, by every account, said nothing and kept the family going.
Part 1 ends the night before they meet. Everything after that night is the rest of the series.

Nancy Guthrie: Coffindaffer Collected the Rumors — One Dropped Her Jaw
Show notes
Jennifer Coffindaffer says the last question she asked in every FBI case was: what are the rumors? She spent a week in Nancy Guthrie's neighborhood asking exactly that. The wealthiest part of the Catalina Foothills handed her a theory that dropped her jaw. Coffindaffer says there's no evidence behind it. She says she has a second theory she hasn't aired. One couple in the neighborhood was certain they knew what happened. A source nearby blamed someone from years ago. Coffindaffer drove toward the border and looked at the routes herself. She joins Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke to sort it all.

Did Lindsay Clancy Warn Her Doctors or Just Her Husband?
Show notes
Patrick Clancy’s attorney told a Massachusetts judge that Lindsay Clancy would take the stand in the civil case and testify she explicitly warned her mental health providers about homicidal thoughts toward her children. That same night, Kevin Reddington — Lindsay’s criminal defense attorney — denied it: she never said it, and no one speaking for her ever promised she would. The wrongful-death lawsuit, filed by Patrick in January 2026, targets Lindsay’s psychiatrist and nurse practitioner. It alleges they prescribed eight medications in approximately three weeks without adequate oversight. The defendants want the case dismissed under a state law protecting mental health providers from liability — unless the patient made an explicit threat. Every provider who testified at Lindsay’s murder trial said she never disclosed thoughts of harming anyone else. Patrick’s trial testimony told a different story about what Lindsay revealed at home. Her criminal case returns to court November 2nd.

Nancy Guthrie: What the Diners and the Staff Told Coffindaffer
Show notes
Nancy Guthrie's favorite restaurant is El Charro in Tucson — the oldest family-owned Mexican restaurant in America. Jennifer Coffindaffer went there in October, sat down, and asked about two dozen strangers and the staff what they believe happened. Not one person in the room thinks Nancy is alive. A man at a table refused to say a word while his wife blamed the sheriff. Ten women from Minnesota spent the conversation talking about Jacob Wetterling. The two hostesses at the door had never heard of Nancy. The staff said the dead season filled because of the case. Coffindaffer takes Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke through it all on this edition of True Crime Today.

Sandra Birchmore’s 2017 Page Made Farwell’s Expert Say THIS
Show notes
The first question the prosecution asked Farwell’s mental health expert on cross was stopped by the judge before she could answer. Dr. Melissa Piasecki had spent a day on the stand building the defense’s case that Sandra Birchmore’s history pointed toward suicide. She called Sandra’s 2017 journal a suicide planning document and described a girl at permanent risk. Then the prosecutor named the relationship at the center of her analysis as Matthew Farwell and corrected her: Sandra was fifteen when it started, not sixteen. He asked what Piasecki knew about Sandra’s last day and she couldn’t describe it. Sandra didn’t search for ways to end her life, didn’t search for materials, didn’t send a message. Piasecki agreed to each. Farwell faces mandatory life if convicted.

Nancy Guthrie: Coffindaffer Saw What They Left on the Porch
Show notes
The man who took Nancy Guthrie tore vines off the front of her house to cover the camera. That clump was lying on an enclosed porch next to her blood when deputies arrived — and Jennifer Coffindaffer says nobody bagged it. The retired FBI agent flew to Tucson, stood in front of that house, and came back asking what the rest of the scene looks like if the porch was worked that way. She also tore apart the sheriff's claim that the case isn't cold because he flew a team to his Florida lab. That's the lab the FBI pulled the hair out of in April. The hair had no DNA. The department solved a separate 1975 murder in May, and Coffindaffer suspects the trip was about that. The only DNA left is a mix of up to four people. She joins Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke.

Nancy Guthrie: Coffindaffer Killed Her Headlights and Walked
Show notes
Jennifer Coffindaffer has covered the Nancy Guthrie case on air since the first week. In October she flew to Tucson and stood on Nancy's street after midnight with her car lights off. Everyone had been told the Catalina Foothills are too dark for cameras — that's why nobody has ever shown a getaway car. Coffindaffer says she could see twenty yards. Porch lights and landscape lighting on every block. Her camera couldn't record it, but she could see Nancy's door frame from the street. She drove the exit routes through lit roads, past a school, a church, and a CVS. The only car ever captured is a Ring clip from two and a half miles away, still unidentified eight months later. Coffindaffer lays it out with Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke on this edition of True Crime Today.

Lori Vallow’s Niece and the Lawyer Conflict: WHAT Next?!
Show notes
Meanwhile Lori's own Idaho murder convictions are now before the state Supreme Court. Her appeal argues that the trial judge improperly removed Mark Means, the lawyer she wanted, after a conflict involving Means's earlier work for Chad Daybell. The state argues the removal was proper. Former prosecutor and defense attorney Eric Faddis joins Robin Dreeke to explain why attorney choice matters, why conflicts matter too, and what a court must decide before any retrial could occur. Oral arguments are scheduled for November 2, 2026. There is no appellate ruling yet.
Brandon Boudreaux testified that Melani looked to her aunt Lori Vallow as a mother figure. That matters because this story starts long before a court argument about an attorney. Melani had lost her mother as a child, and Lori occupied an enormous place in the family. When beliefs around Lori began changing, Melani's marriage and her sense of who to trust changed with them.
In testimony at the Chad Daybell trial, Melani Pawlowski described meeting Chad in November 2018. He was presented as someone who could identify light and darkness in people. Brandon told jurors Melani began attending religious gatherings without him and said he was not welcome. Melani testified she eventually began referring to Lori and Chad as Mom and Dad. It is one thing to follow an aunt's advice. It is another when that aunt and her new husband become the people defining what reality looks like.
Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott and retired FBI behavioral expert Robin Dreeke help Tony Brueski examine the influence, the changing boundaries, and how a familiar family relationship can make extraordinary claims feel trustworthy. That is behavioral analysis, not a diagnosis or proof of criminal involvement. Melani has denied involvement in the shooting at her former husband, Brandon, and has not been charged in that shooting.
A mother's loss, an aunt who became a guiding authority, a new religious circle, and a Supreme Court appeal about a disqualified lawyer: these facts sit in different chapters of the case. Put together, they show just how many different kinds of influence investigators, families, and judges were being asked to sort out.

The Sandra Birchmore case is back at a question federal prosecutors raised long before Matthew Farwell's trial: what did he mean by the note he allegedly wrote to his closest friend in June 2024? The government says the former Stoughton police officer asked his friend to step in for his wife and children and said they would meet “on the other side.” News had just broken that a private pathologist believed Birchmore was killed.
Prosecutors cited the note in detention filings as a reason to be concerned about flight risk. They did not claim it was a murder confession, and they acknowledged Farwell stayed put. The defense says that the evidence does not overturn the suicide explanation. The competing interpretations require careful separation from the note's actual words.
In court, William Farwell testified under immunity that Matthew later told him he had wiped phone data after Birchmore's death. The prosecution presented its own reconstruction of what happened in her apartment in February 2021. The defense continues to challenge that reconstruction. Matthew Farwell has pleaded not guilty to federal counts concerning Birchmore and her unborn child.
On October 28, 2026, prosecutors rested after 38 witnesses, and the defense began calling its own. Conviction could expose Farwell to life in federal prison. Because he once served as a police officer, security and protective placement would be important questions for the Bureau of Prisons if he were sentenced. Nobody can know a future housing decision from his job history alone.
Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis and retired FBI behavioral expert Robin Dreeke join Tony Brueski to test the government's reading of the note, explore the limits of behavior-based inference, and examine what former-officer status could mean inside federal custody. The central question remains whether the jury finds the murder charge proven.

Melani Boudreaux’s Custody Fight Exposed WHAT?!
Show notes
There are two courtrooms in the story of Lori Vallow’s niece Melani Boudreaux: the custody dispute over her four children and the criminal trials that later examined Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell’s circle. Between them sits a whirlwind November 2019 wedding, a written warning attributed to her new husband, and persistent questions about what Melani believed while JJ and Tylee were missing.
Melani moved next door to Lori in Rexburg and quickly married Ian Pawlowski. Ian testified that Lori and Chad held enormous influence in her life. Alex Cox, Lori’s brother, reportedly served as a witness to the wedding. In a documented account attributed to Ian, he expressed concern that Melani had heard beliefs under which Brandon Boudreaux and perhaps the missing children were considered threats that needed to be removed. His account must be understood as reported concern rather than independent proof of a plot.
After Lori was arrested on February 20, 2020, Brandon continued pressing allegations in Arizona family court that Melani knew more about the attack on him and the missing children. Melani disputed those allegations through counsel and said she did not know the children’s whereabouts. She has not been charged in the Brandon shooting. She went on to testify for the state at Chad Daybell’s trial.
Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott and former FBI behavioral expert Robin Dreeke join Tony Brueski to examine how people make choices under intense family loyalty, and why testimony, legal claims, and psychological interpretation should not be blended into one asserted fact. This is the story of a family crisis that outlasted an arrest and followed Melani into court.

Sandra Birchmore: The Suicide Report Hid WHAT Context?!
Show notes
Police reports describing Sandra Birchmore’s death as a suicide were in the medical examiner’s hands before the examiner had investigated the death for herself. Dr. MarĂa del Mar CapĂł-MartĂnez testified that her office was not called to the apartment and that investigators reported no foul play. She initially recorded the manner of death as suicide in 2021.
Five years later, the Massachusetts medical examiner’s office changed that ruling to undetermined and revised the cause of death to asphyxia. The federal prosecution says a premature conclusion and missing information compromised the original inquiry. Matthew Farwell’s defense has contested the revision and maintains Sandra died by suicide.
The jury also heard testimony from William Farwell, the defendant’s twin. William, a former Stoughton police officer, acknowledged an intimate relationship with Sandra while on duty and testified under a grant of immunity. He placed that relationship in 2018, when Sandra was an adult. A separate message discussed in court described Sandra’s relationship with Matthew beginning when she was 15. William also testified that Matthew told him he had wiped phone data.
Matthew Farwell is accused of killing Sandra and her unborn child and making the scene resemble suicide. He has pleaded not guilty, and the government must prove its case. William’s admissions and the examiner’s amended findings are separate pieces of the record, not substitutes for that burden.
Tony Brueski examines both sets of testimony with defense attorney Bob Motta, retired FBI special agent Robin Dreeke, and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott. They look at what investigators communicated, what an examiner needs to reach a reliable conclusion, and how jurors should evaluate a twin brother’s account while considering the competing theories of Sandra’s death.
