Two for Chirping

Hockey, Sports

Hockey talk, but make it real. We’re two St. Louis gals who grew up with the Blues in our blood and way too many opinions to keep to ourselves. Every week, we dive into all things Blues and cover league-wide storylines that have us chirping.

We’re not here to pretend we’re insiders — we’re fans first, bringing honest takes, plenty of laughs, and the kind of banter you’d expect if you were sitting next to us at Enterprise or yelling at the TV. If you love the game, live for the drama, or just want hockey talk that doesn’t take itself too seriously, you’re in the right place.

    Season 2, Episode 7

    Show notes

The Blues gave us hope (again), and then Carolina reminded us not to get too comfortable.

This week on Two For Chirping, we're breaking down St. Louis' wins over Winnipeg and Vegas, including a six-goal showing against the Golden Knights, Justin Barron's career night, and Joel Hofer's growing confidence in net. Then, we're talking about what went wrong against Carolina and why the Blues still can't seem to put together a consistent 60 minutes.

Around the league, things are getting personal. Connor Hellebuyck is headed to New Jersey, Brady Tkachuk gets a not-so-warm welcome back to Ottawa, and NHL fans are delivering some truly elite chirps. Plus, we debate whether outdoor hockey games have lost their magic and take a look at the drama unfolding in Columbus.

Two big wins, one ugly loss, and enough hockey drama to keep us entertained all week. Let's chirp!

  3. 2FC 2.5: Opposite Day in St. Louis

    Season 2, Episode 5

    Show notes

The Blues are keeping us on our toes, and not necessarily in a good way. After frustrating losses to Chicago and San Jose, the boys finally flipped the script against Columbus. Apparently, playing a full 60 minutes and getting bodies in front of the net actually works!

This week, we're breaking down the highs and lows of the Blues' roller coaster start, the instant chemistry between McTavish and McMichael, Snuggerud's big night, Jiricek's impressive play, and some seriously questionable officiating. Plus, we're talking player safety, goalie drama, and the latest happenings around the NHL.

Is the Columbus win a sign of things to come, or are we in for another week of whiplash?

  4. 2FC 2.4: Opening Weekend Whiplash

    Season 2, Episode 4

    Show notes

The regular season is officially here, and the Blues wasted absolutely no time putting us through the full range of emotions.

We’re breaking down a nearly perfect season opener in Dallas, including Joel Hofer’s shutout, Mason McTavish’s first goal as a Blue, Dalibor Dvorsky picking up right where he left off and some… questionable officiating. Then, we have to talk about the 6-1 reality check in Colorado and what went wrong on night two of a brutal opening back-to-back.

Around the league, Detroit is already in chaos, Jack Hughes has us talking about players and the media, a massive Toronto-Columbus trade shakes things up, and we have some serious questions for Minnesota’s medical staff.

  5. 2FC 2.3: Let the Real Games Begin

    Season 2, Episode 3

    Show notes

Preseason is officially in the rearview, and ready or not, the real games are here.

We’re wrapping up the Blues’ preseason with the good, the questionable and the “please just shoot the puck” of it all. We’re talking roster cuts, young guys headed to Springfield, a defense giving us reasons to believe, and a power play that… has some work to do.

Plus, Around the League gets weird with a rapidly rising salary cap, new equipment rules, the NHL’s sudden war on jersey tucks, and plenty more before the puck officially drops on the regular season.

  6. 2FC 2.2: The Blues Are Back-ish

    Season 2, Episode 2

    Show notes

    The Blues are back… ish.

Alexa went to training camp, so we’re breaking down what stood out in person, how the prospects are looking (spoiler: it got a little messy), and our early impressions as camp gets underway.

Then we dive into the first preseason game, where the prospects got plenty of ice time and gave us a lot to talk about. It’s way too early to panic, but it’s definitely not too early to have opinions.

  7. 2FC 2.1: Blues are Back!

    Season 2, Episode 1

    Show notes

WE’RE BACK! Season 2 of Two for Chirping is officially here, and apparently the St. Louis Blues decided to give us plenty to talk about while we were gone.

We’re breaking down a wild Blues offseason, including the departures of Brayden Schenn and Justin Faulk, the Jordan Kyrou trade, four first-round picks, the additions of Mason McTavish and Brandon Carlo, and a prospect pool that suddenly looks very different.

Plus, we get into the transition from Doug Armstrong to Alexander Steen, Robert Thomas taking over as captain, the other moves that rounded out the roster, and the biggest question heading into the season: Did the Blues actually get better?

A lot happened. We have thoughts. Welcome back to Two for Chirping.

  8. 2FC 1.28: Ending on a High Note

    Season 1, Episode 28

    Show notes

The Blues may have missed the playoffs, but they didn’t go quietly. St. Louis closes out the season with three huge wins and a surge of scoring, giving us plenty to be excited about heading into the offseason. We break down what clicked, who showed out, and what this momentum could mean moving forward.

Then, it’s time to shift gears — playoff hockey is here. We run through our full bracket, share our predictions, and get into the matchups we’re most excited (and nervous) about across the league.

  9. 2FC 1.27: No Playoff Blues — Now What?

    Season 1, Episode 27

    Show notes

The Blues are officially eliminated from playoff contention.

With three games still left to play, the final blow came from out west as the Kings’ win over the Oilers mathematically knocked St. Louis out of the race. A tough way for the season to end, especially with meaningful hockey still on the schedule.

This week was a perfect snapshot of the season: a huge statement win against Colorado, followed by a flat rematch, a frustrating loss to Winnipeg, and finally a strong bounce-back win over Chicago.

We break down the emotional rollercoaster, what ultimately cost the Blues a playoff spot, and what we still want to see from this team in the final stretch.

    1 hr 39 min
  10. 2FC 1.26: Playoff Push… But At What Cost?

    Season 1, Episode 26

    Show notes

Episode 1.26 and the Blues are still hanging in the playoff race… but it wasn’t the strongest week. After grabbing just 3 out of 6 possible points, we’re breaking down what’s missing. It starts with consistent scoring.

The defense continues to hold steady and the goaltending is doing enough to keep them competitive, but without offensive production, it’s hard to feel confident down the stretch.

And even if they do sneak into the playoffs… do we really want a first-round matchup with a 110-point Avalanche team?

We get into it all: the good, the frustrating, and what needs to change ASAP if this team wants to make any real noise.

  11. 2FC 1.25: Blues Heating Up at the Perfect Time

    Season 1, Episode 25

    Show notes

The Blues are heating up at exactly the right time. After going 4-1-1 in their last six games, St. Louis is playing some of their best hockey of the season and it’s the young guns leading the charge.

We break down the recent stretch of big wins, the noticeable progression across the lineup, and why this team suddenly feels different. Snuggerud, Holloway, Broberg, and Mailloux are stepping up in a big way, and it’s translating to results on the ice.

With the Blues sitting just four points out of a playoff spot, we talk about what needs to happen down the stretch.

    1 hr 43 min
  12. 2FC 1.24: Seven of Eight & Feeling Great

    Season 1, Episode 24

    Show notes

The Blues might finally be hitting their stride. St. Louis picked up 7 out of 8 possible points this week and looked like the most complete version of themselves we’ve seen all season. We break down the four-game stretch, why the Holloway–Thomas–Snuggerud line is clicking, and how the youth movement is driving the momentum.

Then it’s time for some chirping. After a dirty hit ended Auston Matthews’ season, we talk about the lack of response from his Toronto teammates and why that kind of silence says a lot about team culture. One thing we know for sure — the Blues always stand up for their guys, and that’s a standard we love to see.

  13. 2FC 1.23: Blues Deadline Breakdown - Schenn & Faulk Traded, Parayko Stays

    Season 1, Episode 23

    Show notes

The NHL trade deadline delivered plenty of drama in St. Louis. Rumors swirled around Colton Parayko leading up to the deadline, but he ultimately elected to stay with the Blues. Meanwhile, the team did make some big moves, dealing longtime veterans Brayden Schenn and Justin Faulk. We break down what those trades mean for the Blues now and in the future and how the rest of the league shook out on deadline day.

  14. 2FC 1.22: Buyers, Sellers & Baby Blues

    Season 1, Episode 22

    Show notes

The trade deadline rumors are swirling, and four St. Louis Blues names keep popping up. We break down what losing each of them would actually mean and what the deadline landscape looks like across the league.

But instead of spiraling… we’re leaning optimistic.

Between the emerging young core in St. Louis and the fresh wave happening with the St. Louis Cardinals, the next five years of STL sports might be sneakily electric. Deadline drama? Sure. But our Baby Blues will keep us positive.

  15. 2FC 1.21: All Gold Everything - USA Sweeps Men’s & Women’s Tournaments

    Season 1, Episode 21

    Show notes

USA Hockey said play Free Bird… and we did.

This week we’re celebrating a historic Olympic sweep as Team USA takes home gold in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. We break down the golden goal, the biggest moments, and what it means for the sport on both sides.

We also spotlight the Blues players who represented their countries on the Olympic stage and what their performances could mean heading back into NHL play.

Then we spend time on the women’s game — the trailblazers, the legends, and what feels like the end of an era for some of the names that helped build women’s hockey into what it is today.

Finally, it’s back to business. The Blues return to action with two big matchups: a Thursday tilt against the playoff-positioned Seattle Kraken and a weekend showdown featuring Olympic golden goal scorer Jack Hughes on Saturday… and his brother on Sunday.

Olympic glory to regular season reality. Let’s chirp about it.

  16. 2FC 1.20: Flavor Shouldn’t Be Fined

Three tight, competitive games gave us plenty to chew on this week, capped by a statement win as the Blues take down the Florida Panthers, the defending back-to-back Stanley Cup champions. We break down what’s working, what still needs tightening, and why this stretch felt like real progress but might not be enough in the Central division.

We also dive into the league’s ongoing struggle with letting players show any personality, unpack the latest William Nylander drama, and run through a growing list of goalie injuries that could shake things up down the stretch. Plus, with the Olympics officially on the horizon, we talk international implications, roster questions, and what it all means for the NHL moving forward.

    Season 1, Episode 19

    Show notes

The Blues only walk away with one point this week, but the effort level never dipped. We break down a pair of hard-fought games, the compete level we liked, and why this felt more like a step forward than a setback. It wasn’t perfect — but it was honest hockey, and sometimes that matters just as much.

    1 hr 28 min
  18. 2FC 1.18: All Hail Hofer

    Season 1, Episode 18

We also take time to celebrate the organization’s history as the newest class of the St. Louis Blues Hall of Fame was officially inducted this week. From what’s working on the ice right now to honoring the legends who built the franchise, it was a full-circle week in St. Louis — and we’ve got it all covered.

  19. 1.17 2FC: These Losses Hurt, but The Kids Are Alright?

    Season 1, Episode 17

    Show notes

The Blues came away without a win this week, dropping all three games. We walk through where things broke down on the ice, but also take a step back to look at the bigger picture. The organization locked in two important extensions, two Blues prospects earned hardware at the World Juniors, and the team continues to show a willingness to compete and stand up for one another.

The results haven’t followed yet, but there are signs of structure, effort, and long-term direction that matter just as much at this stage.
