Watch WHAT now?
Join Eric and Melissa as they start this "interesting" journey together with Eric being a horror movie fan and Melissa being a horror movie newbie.
Every two weeks (God willing) they will get together to discuss the good, the bad, and everything else in between.
The subjects will be horror for the most part, but the focus of the podcast is to discuss films that leave you wondering (good or bad), "WTF did I just watch?"

Episode 28: Night of the Demons (1988)
Episode 28
Show notes
"Would you listen to me? These are NOT ghosts. This house is NOT haunted, it's possessed!"
It's Spooky Season and what better way to celebrate than with a Halloween party? There will be music, drinks, games, and even a demon or two. The only question that needs to be asked is "will you survive the night?"
Night of the Demons is a cult classic in the horror community. However, Eric doesn't remember being a fan of the film and naturally, Melissa's never seen it. Time to find out if it's worth the hype. Is Angela as cool of a horror villain as her reputation seems? Are the practical effects as great as people say? Is the third time the charm for Eric when all is said and done?
Stock up on supplies from the local convenience store, dress up in your costumes, apply your lipstick anyway you see fit, and get ready for the party of the year...maybe. That's for us to decide.

Episode 27: Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Episode 27
Show notes
“I do love a good joke and this is the best ever: a joke on the children.”
Halloween was a sleeper hit in 1978 and by 1981, John Carpenter was drinking a six pack of beer a night while writing the script to a sequel that he thought was totally unnecessary. That script ended up being Halloween II and those nightly six packs of beer ended up being the reason Michael Myers and Laurie Strode were brother and sister. Carpenter also made sure to kill off both Michael and Dr. Loomis.
Enter 1982 where Halloween creators Carpenter and Debra Hill didn’t want Michel to return and hoped to create a yearly anthology type series of movies that focused more on Halloween itself and not the man in the William Shatner mask…and boy were people pissed.
Oh boy. Join us as we return to the Halloween franchise but without any returning characters. Instead of the silent man with the kitchen knife stalking babysitters, we got a warlock planning on using Halloween masks to kill all the children in the world. Yes, seriously. That’s the plot.Robots, insects, Stonehenge, and a VERY annoying TV commercial jingle.
Melissa has no idea what she’s in for.

Episode 26: Tarantula (1955)
Episode 26
Show notes
"No footprints! No blood! No sign of a struggle! The bones just stripped clean like peeling a banana!"
If we’ve learned anything from 1950s sci-fi movies, it’s that radiation and science is bad when multi-legged creatures are involved. We also the Arizona desert can be dangerous enough on its own, but when a well intentioned professor causes a tarantula to grow to immense size, all hell can break loose.
Nothing is safe from this over-sized arachnid and it’s up to the local doctor, a lab assistant, and Clint Eastwood (yes, THAT Clint Eastwood) to save the town from being devoured.
Join us for Episode 26 as we try to decipher all the scientific jargon told to us in the film as well as see how this popular “Big Bug” movie really sizes up. We’ll do our best to strip this movie clean like a banana and keep you all entertained in the process. Hopefully you won't feel like you’re painfully mutating into someone with Acromegaly while that happens.
And whatever you do, please don’t stick your finger in some random white goo you find in a field and taste it. That’s just nasty.

Episode 25: Creepshow (1982)
Episode 25
Show notes
"You see that crap? All that horror crap? Things coming out of crates and eating people? Dead people coming back to life? People turning into weeds, for Christ's sake?"
Welcome to the 25th episode of Watch WHAT, now?, the podcast that talks about the good, the bad, and everything in between. It’s also been Melissa’s journey as a horror newbie into that genre. It must have been fate at the end of our last episode when Melissa chose “cockroaches” over “spiders” because we needed a big name for episode 25 and with her choice, we got two.
Stephen King and George A. Romero joined forces to bring Creepshow out into the world.Inspired by the EC horror comics of the 1950s, King and Romero wanted to bring both the scary and cheesy elements of the source material, yet keep that comic book look and feel. And that they did. From zombies wanting revenge and “meteor shit” covering all things with vegetation to monsters in crates and roach infestations.
This anthology is considered to be one of the most entertaining creations from both artists and we’re going to discuss if we think that is a valid claim. We’ll also discuss other subjects as well: How is Leslie Nielsen as a villain compared to his well known lovable idiot characters? Does the comic book look distract from the stories? Is Stephen King the perfect bumpkin? And most importantly, will Wilma cause Fluffy to get indigestion?
So slice yourself a piece of cake and help us celebrate 25 episodes. Make sure to have a bottle of bug spray handy as well. You never know when you’ll need it. Just no voodoo dolls, please. They're a pain in the neck.

Episode 24: Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957)
Episode 24
Show notes
"But one thing's for sure. Inspector Clay is dead, murdered, and somebody is responsible."
How do we follow up Ep. 23 where we nearly gave Evil Dead 2 a perfect combined score? By discussing a movie from someone known as "The worst director of all time," and that director was known as Ed Wood. With a budget of only $60,000 and some use of military stock footage, this "worst movie ever" has grown in popularity after decades of midnight matinee showings as well as often being the subject of local low budget horror and sci-fi shows.
There's so much to unpack with this one and it's notoriety. It's known as Bela Lugosi's last movie, even though his footage was from a previously unfinished Ed Wood film. Vampira hated her character's dialogue so much that she refused to say anything. There's boom mic shadows, visible scripts, and shaky flying saucers, but at least it has a very relevant message.
So join us as we step through the constantly reused curtains and try to answer some questions: Is this truly one of the worst films ever? Are the resurrected dead zombies, ghouls, or vampires? Does its hour and fifteen minute run time feel like days? Was Melissa wrong when she said this sounded like fun? We'll find out in Ep. 24 just how "Stupid...stupid" this movie really is. God help us in the future.

Episode 23: Evil Dead II (1987)
Episode 23
Show notes
"For God's sake! How do you stop it????"
Bruce Campbell can win an Academy Award for playing Sir Isaac Newton, but he'll forever be known as the hero Ash from the Evil Dead franchise. And as successful as the original Evil Dead film was, fans tend to flock more towards its sequel due to its mixture of horror and comedy, as well as its over the top use of blood splatter. Sounds perfect for a horror newbie like Melissa, right?
Join us as we enter that abandoned cabin in the woods and deal with Ash and the horrors of the forest. From disembodied hands and laughing deer heads to evil trees and mystical daggers, this one has it all and Melissa is diving headfirst into the fruit cellar with Henrietta to find out.
It's time to grab a shotgun, gas up the chainsaw, and find those final pages of the Necronomicon, because it's Ep 23 of Watch WHAT, now? and we're planning on carving ourselves a witch. Or be dead by dawn. One of the two. Groovy.

Episode 22: The Burning (1981)
Episode 22
Show notes
"Man, this guy is so burned, he's cooked! A fucking Big Mac, overdone! You know what I mean?"
In the 1980s, slasher movies were booming and at times, summer camp was the place to be concerning them. In 1980, Camp Crystal Lake suffered a tragedy when Mrs. Voorhees slayed 7 people in the name of her son Jason. Yet one year later, Camp Blackfoot had its own tragedy when the groundskeeper known as Cropsy was burned in a prank gone wrong. The tragedy got even worse when Cropsy decided to take vengeance upon a group of campers from nearby Camp Stonewater.
The Burning has a huge following and with Melissa still a newbie to horror films, this one was pretty much a requirement. With Tom Savini behind the gore effects, it's a no-brainer that it'll be a bloody one for her, but does that make it a good film? We'll get into that and see if the movie is truly worth the hype.
Join us as we get in our canoe and paddle through the ups and downs of dealing with Cropsy and his gardening shears. Plus we'll answer the ultimate burning question: Does Melissa regret choosing this film just because it starred Jason Alexander?

Episode 21: The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Episode 21
Show notes
"Tina, it was wrong of you to lock me up. I had to hurt myself to get out. But I forgive you darlin' and I know you're here, because I can smell your brains."
Let's start with some questions: What if The Night of the Living Dead really happened? And what if some of those reanimated bodies were contained and accidentally sent to a medical supply company? And what if two bumbling employees caused one of the corpses to come back to life and in turn cause all the dead bodies in the nearby cemetery to dig themselves up? Well, you'd have 1985's The Return of the Living Dead.
Like a lot of the films discussed here, this was a first time watch for Melissa and while we've had some great conversations lately...the content we've discussed hasn't been that great of a watch for her. Fingers crossed that this movie will end somewhat of a losing streak concerning Melissa's recent watches. But hey, when two of your main characters trying to stop the zombies are named Burt and Ernie, the odds have to be in our favor.
Take a chance on Episode 21 because if UNEEDA some entertainment, Watch WHAT, now? has it. Enjoy and don't forget to send more paramedics!

Episode 20: Road House (1989)
Episode 20
Show notes
"Take the biggest guy in the world, shatter his knee and he'll drop like a stone."
Well, you guys asked for it. With 59 percent of the votes, Road House beat out Them! as the subject for Episode 20. Road House, the movie that is now known as a Family Guy joke. Road House, the movie that the Official Razzie Movie Guide called "One of the 100 most enjoyably bad movies ever made." Road House, the movie that Melissa suggested because she knew someone that walked out of the theater after 10 minutes.
Patrick Swayze plays Dalton, the toughest and most peaceful Cooler around, is hired to clean up the violent roadside bar known as The Double Deuce by getting rid of the local troublemakers. Join us as we discuss all the clichés: the sensitive tough guy, his older mentor, the sexy blonde love interest, the over the top villains, unnecessary explosions, and more.
Grab a beer, have your medical records on hand, and avoid any and all stuffed polar bears because we have a lot to say in Episode 20. Don't worry, though. We'll be nice, until it's time to not be nice.

Episode 19: Hellraiser (1987)
Episode 19
Show notes
"See? It's making me whole again. Every drop of blood you spill, the more flesh you put on my bones. And we both want that, don't we?"
For a horror newbie, Melissa might have finally gotten in over her head by choosing what to discuss for this episode. Demons from another dimension torture people in the most gruesome ways, simply for the person's pleasure. Frank Cotton escaped the Cenobites and needs his ex-lover Julia to bring him victims so he can regain the flesh on his body, all while trying to avoid Pinhead and his demonic minions.
Did Melissa make a mistake by opening the box and bringing Hellraiser to Watch WHAT, now? Will she be able to handle the over the top gore? Will Eric have to discuss this movie solo because there might be a chance Melissa won't be able to finish watching the movie? Anything is possible. Join us for Episode 19, as we have such sights to show you.

"Get ready to take your medicine, Moorehigh. The doctor is in."

Join us as we completely lose it discussing a movie about an escaped mental patient that returns home so he may finish his father's work...and by that we mean killing people and removing their hearts so he can successfully perform a transplant on a "patient."
From killing people with thermometers and gigantic band-aids to delivering puns every single time you see him on screen, Dr. Giggles does it all. We'll let you decide if that's a good thing.

Episode 17: Hard Rock Zombies (1985)
Episode 17
Show notes
"I wanna hold your hand..."
Rock music and horror movies are often at times a great mixture. SPOILERS: That is not the case with the subject of this episode of the podcast. You may ask yourself after reading that, "How bad could it be?" Well, both of us turned the film off during our initial watches less than 15 minutes in.
Oh, boy. Where do we start because this movie has everything and not in a good way. Shitty looking zombies. Bad rock music. Stupid townsfolk. Evil dwarves. A werewolf grandma. And if that wasn't dumb enough, Adolf and his evil group attempt to make a comeback. The things we sit and watch for your entertainment.
Well, hopefully you're entertained with our reviews because this film (and that is being said VERY loosely), has zero entertainment value.Wish us luck as we contemplate ever considering an idea from Shelley again. Sigh... It's Episode 17 of "Watch WHAT, now?" and we're discussing Hard Rock Zombies, I guess.

Episode 16: Maximum Overdrive (1986)
Episode 17
Show notes
"Honey! C'mon over here, Sugar-buns. This machine just called me an asshole!"
There's a certain stigma attached to the majority of Stephen King horror movies: they're all terrible. Some are so bad that they're good and some are unwatchable. The subject of this episode has a reputation for both and we'll decide which opinion is more justified.
Take one Brat Packer, add Lisa Simpson, mix in a handful of other "interesting" characters, and then dump them at a truck stop that is under attack by a bunch of automobiles and other machines come to life and you'll end up with Maximum Overdrive.
Based on his own short story "Trucks," Stephen King decided to go from the writer's room to the director's chair. He also (be it good or bad) brought his alcoholism and cocaine addiction along with him. The man was so drunk and coked out of his mind that he doesn't remember much of the experience and hasn't directed a movie since. Sounds perfect for this podcast, doesn't it? So come on down to The Dixie Boy with us. It'll be a memorable time for sure.

Episode 15
Show notes
"Operator, get me the police! I DON'T KNOW where I'm located, just get me the police, there's a... there's a... just get me the police, PLEASE?"
We all have moments that may traumatize us and that could include watching certain movies at certain ages. Melissa remembers watching Trilogy of Terror on television at three years old and has been afraid to revisit it...until now.
When this movie is brought up in discussion, the subject matter is always about how terrifying the Zuni Fetish Doll is in the final story. But what about the other two tales in this anthology? Do they hold up to the final chapter with the doll? Are they a good enough hook to keep the viewer interested? What year did this movie really come out? And will Melissa be able to sleep at night after facing her fear of seeing "that fucking doll" one more time? All that and more will be discussed in Episode 15!

Episode 14: Leprechaun (1993)
Episode 14
Show notes
"Nathan, that was no fuckin' bear.."
Before Jennifer Aniston was busy hanging at the Central Perk, she was in North Dakota fighting an evil little Irish imp that just wanted his gold back. Well, we all gotta start somewhere.
Oh, boy. Lots to unpack with this one. One host understands how goofy the premise is and kind of allows it to unfold. The other doesn't care and hates it from the beginning. From awful child acting and it being way more comedy than horror, to using children's toys as weapons and the director's obsession with showing off what brand of footwear the characters are wearing, there isn't a question that isn't asked.
But hey. At least when it became Bugs Bunny and Wile E. Coyote, even the most upset host of the show admitted to laughing. We guess there's that.

Episode 13: The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Episode 13
Show notes
"Okay, I'm drawing a line in the f**king sand, here. Do not read the Latin."
We all know the tropes when it comes to horror movies. There's always a certain type of character. They always HAVE to have sex. The group ALWAYS splits up.
But what if this was purposely made to happen by people in an underground facility, watching the groups every move? And what if said group is doing it so they can appease the Ancient Ones and keep the Earth from being destroyed?
Yes you read that description right. Join us as we discuss this very smart love letter to the horror genre. It's meta. It's funny. It's bloody. It's The Cabin in the Woods.

Episode 12: My Bloody Valentine (1981)
Episode 12
Show notes
"Roses are red, violets are blue, one is dead, and so are you."
When it comes to Valentine's Day and horror movies, 99 percent of the time, My Bloody Valentine is brought up. The legend of psychotic miner Harry Warden is huge in the horror community and we're going to find out why.
The film has some good things going for it: a creepy legend concerning the killer, a gory calling card from said killer, and some creative kills. But...there's also characters that are called kids when they're pushing 40 or older, lots of scenes that lead to nothing, and an ending that at least left one of our hosts shaking their head in disappointment.
Is it worth the praise it's gotten over the decades or is it just another Hallmark holiday? And how many references to Carrie does this movie try to throw at you? Avoid the Valentine's Day dance and find out!

Join us and our special guest Neil Preston as we talk about this little band's fall from grace. From props not working on stage to concerts being cancelled, Spinal Tap continues to push through it all, even when being second billed to a puppet show.
Neil has worked nearly his entire life as a photographer for various rock and roll bands and he gives us some insider information on just how accurate some of these situations may be when it comes to life on the road.

Episode 10: Halloween (1978)
Episode 10
Show notes
"Death has come to your little town, Sheriff. Now, you can either ignore it, or you can help me to stop it."
In 1978, John Carpenter directed a very small independent film known as "Halloween." With a tiny budget, a screenplay written in three weeks, and lots of unknown actors as actresses at the time, it relied on word of mouth to become successful. Successful is an understatement.
Giving birth to Jamie Lee Curtis' movie career and starting a successful franchise, no one expected Halloween to blow up as much as it has after 40 plus years. But the man in the scary William Shatner mask known as Michael Myers proved to be the little engine that could, spawning a total of 13 films (which include a remake and its own sequel). It's one of the most popular horror movies of all time and for Episode 10, it was chosen for us through a poll and well, here we are.
Eric has seen it dozens of times. Melissa saw it once when she was very young and remembers almost nothing. How will this horror classic stack up? Grab a some Halloween candy, light up that jack-o'-lantern, and find out!

What happens when we decide to leave the cheesy horror movies behind and get back to discussing a truly scary movie? Well, Melissa will explain to everyone in earshot just how much she may have wished she was back in the mall with the Killbots from the last episode.
Join us for Episode 09 as we deal with the infected people (and more) from 2007's Spanish horror film, REC.
