Wheel of Horror

Aw baby we are back in the torture chamber! Host Alec Lawless and returning guest Matt Banever continue their journey through the Saw franchise with Saw V (2008), and things are starting to go off the rails faster than a Jigsaw trap with questionable engineering. Alec is officially entering uncharted territory, while Saw expert Matt guides him through Detective Hoffman’s growing role, Agent Strahm’s desperate investigation, and a group of five unfortunate souls learning the hard way that teamwork is apparently a foreign concept. We break down the gruesome traps, ridiculous plot holes, tangled timelines, and the increasingly complicated web of flashbacks connecting the franchise together. Plus, we discuss Jigsaw’s questionable hiring practices, Billy the Puppet’s unexplored backstory, why nobody seems to be monitoring these death traps, and the very important question: Who the hell is building these underground torture escape rooms?! Is Saw V the franchise’s weakest entry so far, or is there still some method to Jigsaw’s madness? Tune in for brutal traps, franchise deep dives, questionable logic, and plenty of laughs as we continue our torturous journey toward the next installment.

Alec and returning guest Matt Banever dive into Saw IV (2007) to dissect Jigsaw’s questionable life choices, Detective Riggs’ desperate rescue mission, and a timeline that practically requires a detective of its own. We’re talking stomach-churning traps, Detective Strahm stealing every scene, Jigsaw’s tragic backstory, and a finale packed with twists that will leave you asking, “Wait… WHEN is this happening?!” Will Alec survive his first watch-through of the franchise, or will Matt have to hold his hand through another convoluted Jigsaw master plan? Tune in for the classic dark humor, ridiculous observations, and plenty of reasons to never trust a suspicious videotape.

This week on Wheel of Horror, Alec and returning guest Joe Testa dig up the gloriously gory, gloriously ridiculous Flesh Eater (1988)! Directed by and starring Bill Hinzman, the legendary cemetery zombie from Night of the Living Dead, this low-budget Halloween nightmare unleashes a horde of undead maniacs on unsuspecting partygoers. We’re talking outrageous practical effects, hilariously terrible acting, gratuitous nudity, questionable filmmaking decisions, and a plot that basically boils down to zombies killing people for 90 minutes. Plus, we explore the bizarre history connecting Flesh Eater to George Romero’s zombie legacy, including Hinzman’s attempt to carve out his own piece of the undead pie. Is this forgotten VHS-era bloodbath a hidden zombie gem or just a shambling Night of the Living Dead knockoff? Grab your pumpkin beer, lock the doors, and join us as we find out!

Who's ready for Round 3? We're back in Jigsaw's twisted world as Alec and returning Saw superfan Matt Banever dissect Saw III! This time, we're dealing with brain surgery in a filthy garage, a truly disgusting pig grinder, enough screaming to make your neighbors call the police, and traps that make Fear Factor look like a family picnic. We dive into Jigsaw's increasingly complicated master plan, Amanda's questionable apprenticeship, Jeff's very slow journey toward forgiveness, and the franchise's talent for making us ask, "How the hell did they build that?" Plus, we debate whether Jigsaw's rules make any sense and why this movie decided to kill off some of its most important characters. Grab your barf bucket, check your pulse, and remember: cherish your life… and maybe don't hire Amanda for home renovations.

Is Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 actually an underrated horror sequel?

Alec is joined by returning guest Clint Switzer to dive into Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000), the wildly divisive sequel that dared to do almost everything differently from the original. Instead of recreating the found-footage phenomenon, director Joe Berlinger delivered a bizarre, meta psychological horror movie about perception, reality, true crime, and a group of people who may—or may not—be losing their minds. Alec and Clint break down the movie's studio interference, confusing timeline, alternate realities, controversial ending, missing “Book of Shadows,” gruesome reshoots, and the legendary early-2000s soundtrack featuring Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, P.O.D., and more. They also discuss why the movie might actually work better in retrospect, whether a director's cut could save it, the impossible cultural impact of the original Blair Witch Project, and why modern technology may have made that kind of horror impossible to recreate. Is Blair Witch 2 a misunderstood cult classic, a fascinating mess, or just a movie that desperately needed a better edit?

Alec and returning guest Matt Banevar continue their journey through the Saw franchise with Saw II (2005), where Jigsaw trades one creepy bathroom for an entire house full of poisoned victims, questionable decisions, and enough needles to make you reconsider healthcare altogether. The guys break down Donnie Wahlberg’s aggressively angry detective, Amanda’s growing role in Jigsaw’s twisted operation, Xavier being the absolute worst, the infamous needle pit, some truly questionable trap logic, and a twist that completely changes what we’ve been watching for the last 90 minutes. Plus, Matt shares the unbelievable story of the time Donnie Wahlberg apparently stole his booze, his friends, and his VIP section. Is Saw II a worthy sequel that expands the franchise without simply copying the original? Or is Jigsaw just a sick architect with way too much free time and access to industrial equipment? Alec and Matt investigate.

We Are Starting off Spooky Season strong with 1995’s Jack-O! This film is what happens when you mix Pumpkinhead, Troll 2, and a community theater production of Are You Afraid of the Dark? Host Alec and returning guest Joe Testa dive into this bizarre Halloween time capsule, tackling the baffling plot, questionable acting, terrible ADR, random John Carradine footage, Linnea Quigley’s extremely necessary shower scene, and a toaster-related death that absolutely has to be seen to be believed. Plus, why does Jack-O spend so much time just standing around watching people die? And why does the movie suddenly become Home Alone 2? Alec and Joe attempt to make sense of it all before ultimately deciding that maybe it’s better if they don’t.
