Working Notes
There’s no shortage of leadership advice. But how much of it actually holds up at work?
Working Notes is where leadership research meets the real world. I’m Archana Tedone, a business professor and leadership researcher. In each episode, we’ll compare what the evidence says with what people are actually experiencing at work. We’ll talk about the parts of leadership that are easy to give advice about and much harder to get right, including trust, burnout, workplace culture, remote work, career growth, and what good leadership actually looks like.
Bring your experience. I’ll bring the research. Let’s compare notes.

Note 2. Managing AI Means Managing People
Season 1, Episode 2
Show notes
AI tools are moving faster than our understanding of them. So what should leaders actually do about it?
In this episode of Working Notes, I sit down with Liz Conjar, a principal research scientist focused on AI transformation and executive development, to explore what it takes to lead a team through AI, and why it's less about the technology than about the people using it.
We discuss how leaders can learn how their teams really use AI, why the people who feel blocked from using it deserve the most attention, and how to be transparent about job fears and fair about performance. We also cover why healthy skepticism of AI output is a skill worth building, and which parts of leadership, like career development and human connection, shouldn't be handed to AI.

Note 1: Burnout Is Everyone's Problem
Burnout is everyone's problem. But whose responsibility is it to manage?
In the first episode of Working Notes, I sit down with Dr. Erica Pieczonka, leadership and team coach, to explore why burnout matters for both leaders and employees, and why addressing it isn't as simple as telling people to take a break.
We discuss how to recognize burnout, why leaders should care, how employees can advocate for themselves, and what it takes to build healthier, more sustainable teams.
