Wrestling Fan Wrestling Show

Shaz and Morro are back in the Gorilla Room discussing consistency in professional wrestling, and what happens when a company asks fans to believe in a world that doesn't seem to follow its own rules.

From the Gunther and Danhausen segment on WWE SmackDown to Tommaso Ciampa pinning Andrade's sentient pants in AEW, the lads debate whether wrestling can become too ridiculous.

Wrestling has always been a variety show. It can be serious, hilarious, dramatic and completely absurd. But when a segment breaks your suspension of disbelief, does it damage the wider story? And how far can a promotion push things before fans stop buying into what they're watching?

Should wrestling have a line it doesn't cross, or is anything fair game if it entertains the audience?

haz and Morro are back in the Gorilla Room asking one big question: who is each wrestling legend's greatest rival?

Not just the best feud. Not necessarily their most famous match. We're talking about the wrestling soulmates whose careers are forever linked together.

Is Mick Foley the rival who defines Triple H, or is The Rock more important to Foley's legacy? Is Stone Cold Steve Austin the defining rival of The Rock? Who belongs beside John Cena, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Roman Reigns?

The lads match wrestling legends with the one name they believe belongs beside them, debating the rivalries that helped define careers and eras.

Who is your ultimate wrestling soulmate pairing? Let us know in the comments!

fter LA Knight's loss to Roman Reigns at WWE Money in the Bank, Shaz, Morro and The Beast head to the Gorilla Room to discuss one of wrestling's biggest frustrations: when companies fail to capitalise on a wrestler getting over with the fans.

Wrestling fans will put up with a lot, but when a wrestler gets a huge reaction and the promotion refuses to pull the trigger, patience eventually runs out. From Stone Cold Steve Austin and Rob Van Dam to Monty Brown and LA Knight, the lads look at the missed opportunities, questionable booking decisions and moments when WWE, WCW and TNA could have made a star but failed to seize the opportunity. Who deserved a bigger push?

Which companies got it wrong? And which missed opportunity still annoys you? Let us know in the comments and join the WFWS Discord: https://discord.com/invite/rdBk3d4aH

Shaz, Morro and The Beast are in the Gorilla Room discussing the wrestlers who just never seemed to fit in with the promotion they joined.

Sometimes a wrestler is so closely associated with one company that they struggle to find their place somewhere else. Other times, the business moves on, leaving a wrestler feeling like a relic of another era.

From Bret Hart in WCW and the Rock ’n’ Roll Express in WWF to Sting, Rikishi, Sabu, William Regal and Mr. Perfect, the lads run through the names who didn't quite fit the environment, style or direction of a particular promotion.

Who was a great wrestler in the wrong place? And which signings never quite clicked?

hane and Gherkins are back in the Gorilla Room talking about the wrestling tropes we’ve all seen a thousand times.

Why does a referee get knocked out by one kick and stay unconscious for ten minutes? Why does every wrestling wedding inevitably end in disaster? Why do wrestlers insist on standing side-on when talking to someone on television?

From wrestling clichés and ridiculous logic to tropes that somehow became part of the language of professional wrestling, the lads run through the things that make you say: “Why do they ALWAYS do that?”

What wrestling trope drives you mad?

Shane and the Feral Horse Boy Morro are back in the Gorilla Room for the podcast built around one question: who changed professional wrestling?

Following the incredible Will Ospreay vs Kenny Omega match at All In and the latest NJPW classic between Yuma Uemura and Oiwa, the lads look at the wrestlers, matches and companies that pushed wrestling in new directions — for better or worse.

From Tiger Mask and the evolution of Japanese wrestling, to ECW, the nWo, WWF, Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon, Vince Russo and plenty more, Shane and Morro look at the people who set the trends that everyone else eventually followed.

What makes someone a genuine trendsetter? Does changing wrestling always mean improving it? And which ideas completely changed the industry — even when they weren't necessarily good for it?

This is a podcast about the evolution of professional wrestling, the people responsible for it, and the moments that changed what wrestling could be.

Shaz and the “Feral Horse Boy” Morro are back in the Gorilla Room to discuss one of the biggest questions facing WWE right now: what happens when wrestling starts looking too much like Moneyball?

With WWE increasingly using data and analytics to assess its roster, how much should numbers influence who gets a new contract, who gets pushed and who gets left behind?

The recent departure of Ilja Dragunov provides the perfect starting point. Dragunov's WWE contract expired this month, with reports suggesting WWE wanted to keep him but he ultimately chose not to renew.

But can you really judge a wrestler purely through numbers when WWE itself creates the character, controls the presentation and decides how much television time they receive?

If someone isn't drawing, is that the wrestler's fault or the company's?

Shaz and Morro get into the problems with treating professional wrestlers like statistics, whether analytics can actually measure charisma and connection with an audience, and what WWE risks losing when the spreadsheet becomes more important than the performer.

And, naturally, the conversation gets considerably more complicated than that.

Shaz and Gherkins are back in the Gorilla Room discussing the disappearance of the larger-than-life gimmicks that once defined professional wrestling.

Where are the Earthquakes, Typhoons, Hawks, Animals, Smashes, Axes and Ultimate Warriors of today? Why does it feel like so many wrestlers now simply have a first name and surname? And seriously... what is a Mason Rook?

The lads look at whether wrestling has become too focused on presenting itself like a legitimate sport, despite the fact that professional wrestling has never really been one.

They also discuss Danhausen as one of the rare modern examples of a genuinely outrageous character, and ask whether the days of completely ridiculous wrestling gimmicks are gone for good.

Because we knew what a Vader was.

What is a Mason Rook?

This week on All Elite Morro, I take an in-depth look at the G1 Climax 36 Final between Yuya Uemura and Ryohei Oiwa.

The two young NJPW stars faced off in a hugely significant final, with the match representing a major moment for the future of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. I break down the action, storytelling, performances and broader significance of the match, while examining whether this could ultimately be remembered as one of the great G1 Climax finals.

In this episode:

• Full Yuya Uemura vs Ryohei Oiwa G1 Climax 36 Final review
• Detailed analysis of the match and its storytelling
• Uemura and Oiwa's performances and development
• The importance of the next generation of NJPW stars
• The wider significance of G1 Climax 36 for New Japan Pro-Wrestling
• My overall thoughts on one of the most important matches of the NJPW year

Does the WWE Performance Center Work?

Shane and Morro are back in the Gorilla Room discussing whether WWE’s Performance Center is actually producing better wrestlers.

How does WWE’s system compare to New Japan’s Young Lions? Are wrestlers being signed too young and missing out on the experience of working the independent scene and paying their dues?

The lads also get into the recent AJ Styles and Avery Styles controversy after Avery was criticised for not helping take down the ring at a GCW show. Does the old-school mentality still have a place in modern wrestling?

A discussion about how wrestlers learn, how stars are made, and whether WWE’s developmental system is really working.

And, as usual, the parameters of the argument are probably going to fall apart pretty quickly.

Gherkins, Shaz and Morto are taking a trip back to one of the most beloved eras of wrestling toys as Gherkins brings his collection of WWF Hasbro figures into the Gorilla Room.

For a generation of wrestling fans, these weren't just toys. They were how we recreated matches, built our own rosters and brought the WWF we watched on TV into our bedrooms.

Gherkins has collected almost the entire line, with only a handful still missing, so the lads get their hands on some absolute classics including Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior and plenty more.

What made the Hasbro figures so distinctive? Why did the simple designs, action features and exaggerated characters make them so memorable? And perhaps most importantly, why do these figures still look and feel so good decades later?

The lads share their favourites, talk about the figures they grew up with and look at what made the WWF Hasbro era so important to wrestling fans.

A proper nostalgia trip for anyone who remembers opening one of these on Christmas morning.
