WTF Sunderland Podcast

Welcome back to the WTF Sunderland Preview Podcast as we ahead to our second home Europa League game against Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.

Sunderland's league form is torrid, but the Europa League is providing some solace, however, after waiting 53 years for it to arrive, let's embrace it.

We've never faced Croatian opposition before, so we got an expert on the SuperSport HNL, Lovre Nikolac, from CroatiaFooty Pod to give us the lowdown on our opponents on Thursday night.

Sunderland stopped the rot with a battling 0-0 draw against Leeds United at the weekend, but this Saturday's game against Coventry City has the feeling of a must-win - or at least a six-pointer.

The pressure is on, but it feels similar in the Midlands, with Frank Lampard's side just one point ahead of us in the table having lost six of their opening eight games. So what can we expect this weekend? To let us know, we are joined by our pal Ross Spence from Sky Blues Extra.

A much improved performance but still no win to show for it. Are we feeling more positive, or more negative after Sunderland's goalless draw with Leeds?

Alex, Sophie and Ross run over all the talking points from a game that had plenty to stew on.

Four defeats in a row, and Sunderland are bottom of the league. This weekend we face a tough task against Leeds United, but there can simply be no margin for error at the SOL.

Things are going quite swimmingly at Leeds United, with Daniel Farke leading them to seventh in the table after just one defeat this season - but where can we hurt them and get our second back on track? To let us know, we are joined by the excellent Scott Worrall of the Leeds Lens.

More positives than there has been recently, but still frustration as Sunderland fail to take their chances and draw in Poland, with Timur Tutierov bagging his first goal for the club.

Kyle is joined by Ian and Sophie to run through another Europa League point as Sunderland go three unbeaten in Europe.

Enough of the domestic. We have an away in Poland to do, so block out the noise and let's get behind the boys - as hard as it might be at the moment!

Next up is an away trip to wonderful city of Poznan as we head to one of the most fiercely passionate grounds in European football. But what can we expect on the pitch? To give us the lowdown on this Lech Poznan is the excellent Marcin Jezyk from the Poznanski Express Podcast.

Ugh. Four defeats in a row and things are beginning the look bleak. Defensively poor. Offensively non existent, and things are not feeling positive on Wearside.

Graham, Dave, Brad, Ian and Kyle run through a woeful weekend as Sunderland go second bottom after losing at Bournemouth with 10 men.

The Lads return to domestic action after our Europa League exploits to face a mammoth clash with fellow early season strugglers Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

It hasn't been a easy start for the Cherries, with no league win six and several injury problems. So, how is the lay of the land ahead of Sunderland's visit this Sunday? To let us know, Ross is joined by the excellent Alexander Smith from the Bournemouth Daily Echo.

The Premier League has been tough thus far, but a European away day is finally on the agenda after 53 years - so let's put the domestic action on the back burner and go and get a tan!

It's a strange old away day up first as we head to Leiria to face second tier Portuguese side Torreense, last season's shock Portuguese Cup winners? To help us preview the game, Ross is joined by Portugese journalist and historian, Miguel Lourenco Pereira to discuss our next Europa League clash.

Another weekend, another defeat. Is it time to get concerned? Four points from our first six games is grim reading, and Sunderland are definitely at the wrong end of the table early on.

What's going wrong? How do we fix it? Where is Talbi? Why is Xhaka playing like Max Power? Kyle, Pete and Soph cut the fat on a really poor home display at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are almost back, with the end of the international break now firmly on the horizon. But we still have room for one more special episode with Sunderland's longest running podcast Wise Men Say.

Bizarrely the first time we've ever appeared together on this channel, Graham and Kyle are joined by Stephen Goldsmith to discuss Brobbey and Ballard's hamstring injuries, WMS' podcast origins and a testing month ahead as Sunderland's look to pick up points in the Premier League and the Europa League.

Yes, it's one of those shameless promotional episodes. But WE ARE WEARSIDE is OUT NOW. The new book by our very own Graham and Peter.

Authors Graham and Peter join Alex to discuss why the decided to write the book which sees them go back to 11 men who wore the red and white and ask them to tell the stories behind the moments Sunderland supporters still talk about.

The triumphs, disasters, dressing rooms, managers, transfers and extraordinary incidents that never made the back pages are remembered by the people who were actually there - and what did they learn from it all?

What was it like chatting about Sunderland with heroes such as Patrick Roberts, Thomas Sorensen and Stefan Schwarz, and what were the interesting stories they have from a year's worth of talking to former SAFC players?

Every chapter is also part of a bigger story. Players arrive on Wearside from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, never quite knowing what they have signed up for. Some become heroes. Some divide opinion. Some are only truly understood years later.
