#100 –We Couldn’t Afford to Live Either
Season 2026, Episode 100
Show notes
This week, we’re talking about livable wages, taxes, Indianapolis drivers, and AI, the real-life money stress nobody prepares you for: somebody said it’s your employer’s job to make sure you have a livable wage, Jocelyn and Jade both disagree, and then both admit they’ve been the woman who couldn’t afford it. Jocelyn found another way to get more money, and Jade says it was her, and she got out of it. It’s episode 100, they said they’d do something big, life been lifin’, so they got on the soapbox instead: roundabouts, potholes, the Flock camera officers, a state tax audit, and why AI is not your friend. Whether you’re navigating a paycheck that doesn’t stretch, a tax letter you didn’t deserve, or a roundabout nobody knows how to use, this episode will feel like sitting with two friends who truly get it. New episodes every Wednesday. Follow the podcast everywhere you listen.

• Jocelyn likes peanut butter chocolate milk and that’s her business. Jade: I’ll applaud you from afar

• Jade: if the public doesn’t have access, who did y’all think was going to abuse it?
• Jocelyn: they your ex for a reason. Leave them in the past

• Jocelyn: put your phone down at the light. Jade: you the line leader

• Jocelyn on the driver who stopped inside a roundabout while her windows were down
• Jade: this is not the time to be a good Samaritan. Either do it or don’t
• Jade’s first hires with real money: a cleaner, a cook, and a chauffeur. Jocelyn would still cook, and she meal preps every Sunday
• Somebody said a livable wage is your employer’s job. Jocelyn: they set the rate off what the business can afford, and you’re not part of that equation
• Jade: the job’s job is to pay you what they agreed to. Jocelyn: you can’t get mad about something you accepted
• Jocelyn: I’ve been the person who couldn’t afford it, and I found another way to get more money. Jade: it was me, I was her, I got out of it

#99 – If It’s Gonna Hurt My Feelings, I’m Not Asking
Season 2026, Episode 99
Show notes
This week, we’re talking about promotions, honest feedback at work, and the questions you shouldn’t ask if you can’t take the answer: a coworker asked Jocelyn whether she’d be considered for manager, and Jocelyn, who manages a team, told her no and gave her two reasons. We also get into whether the employee who says that’s not my job still deserves a raise, why promotions should never go by seniority, and Jade’s ruling on asking a follow-up when your feelings are already hurt. Then the peanut butter and chili fallout: the clip pulled 31,000 views and almost 2,000 comments, Indiana said not my Indiana, and Jade says Indiana is a real yet fictitious place. Whether you’re navigating a promotion you didn’t get, a question you wish you hadn’t asked, or a food debate you didn’t start, this episode will feel like sitting with two friends who truly get it. New episodes every Wednesday. Follow the podcast everywhere you listen.
Acast Show Notes
• That’s not my job: Jocelyn says if they’re meeting expectations, they still get the raise
• Jocelyn: read your job description. And other duties as assigned means anything is your job now. Jade: job hazard
• Jade: I don’t wanna be a culture fit, I wanna fit the job. Jocelyn: the culture at work is a facade anyway
• Jade: my mom always said how people feel about you ain’t none of your business
• Jocelyn: promotions should never go by seniority. Promote the girl who’s been here two years working circles around everybody
• Ask Jocelyn a question at your own risk. Do you want the truth, or do you want confirming information?
• Jocelyn: I think through how I’ll feel about the answer before I ask. If my feelings would be hurt, I’m not asking
• A coworker asked Jocelyn if she’d be considered for manager. Jocelyn told her no: you don’t advocate for yourself, and you only do your job
• Jade: if your feelings already hurt, why you ask a follow-up?
• Jocelyn: take a three-hour process down to one, and now you’re a promotion candidate
• Jade: you care enough to improve things. You wanna lead
• Jocelyn: what did you do outside your job description that told them you were ready? Your boss is not a mind reader
• Jade: been here 20 years doing subpar work? So what. Jocelyn: what value are you adding?
• Jocelyn read the comments: just about every Black person said no, and a lot of white people said it’s amazing
• School lunch: Jade’s Indiana cafeteria had smothered pork chops. Jocelyn’s Chicago one had Super Donuts
• Jocelyn’s poll flipped from 60 percent crazy work to 58 percent yes
• Jade wants to try the cinnamon roll in the chili. The comments said don’t lie on us
• Jocelyn: Indiana is not the Midwest. We’re closer to Virginia than Wyoming. Jade: people just refuse to stop calling it that
• Jocelyn: you don’t have to try everything to know it’s not for you. Never had chitlins. Jade: I smelt them once and that was enough
• Jocelyn: don’t yuck my yum? I hate that phrase. Eat it if you like it
• Thirty combinations from the comments: cinnamon rolls with American cheese, peanut butter and honey, peanut butter and Miracle Whip
• Chili mac: Jocelyn’s mom made it in Chicago. Jade: that’s hamburger helper
• Chicken nuggets in a Frosty? Jade would try a spicy one. Jocelyn puts sugar in her grits. Jade: cilantro tastes like soap

#98 – Iced Coffee at the Interview? Girl, Leave It in the Car
Season 2026, Episode 98
Show notes
This week, we’re talking about the iced coffee job interview debate, adult friendship, and what people hear versus what you actually said: Jocelyn hires people, and between two equal candidates she is picking the one who did not bring the iced coffee, Jade wants to know how serious you take yourself if you did, and neither of them thinks it was ever about the coffee. We also get into whether your friends are supposed to be your fans, the team building where Jocelyn’s coworkers almost outed the podcast, the resumes that list SQL and Python until you ask one question, Jocelyn’s case for ending the handshake, the servers clip that turned into a fight about something neither of them said, and the stereotypes about Black women that neither of them fits. Whether you’re navigating a job interview, friends who don’t show up for you, or a comment section that heard what it wanted to hear, this episode will feel like sitting with two friends who truly get it. New episodes every Wednesday. Follow the podcast everywhere you listen.
Show Notes
• Your friends are not your fans: Jocelyn read the line, and neither of them agrees with it
• Team building, two truths and a lie, and Jocelyn hates that game
• The iced coffee interview: whether it’s acceptable is a different question from whether you’d do it
• Jocelyn: what do people think the purpose of an interview is?
• Jocelyn’s pet peeve: clammy hands. Jade’s wish: that COVID had ended the handshake for good
• Jade: we got bigger fish to fry than the iced coffee
• The HR rep who started it, and what frowned upon actually means
• Jocelyn: I’m in the business of letting full-grown adults learn their own lessons
• Jocelyn: no sleeve, sweating on the desk, shaking it every sip. That’s a self-awareness issue
• Neither of them works for a Fortune 500
• What we said versus what people heard: the servers clip, and what they actually said about finding another job
• We said we tip. You still have to earn it
• Tipping is rooted in racism, and that is a different conversation than the one they were having
• Jade: it’s called A Girl’s Perspective, not A Girl’s Facts
• Jade: who are you that we gotta lie about tipping? Believe what you wanna believe, boo
• Jade: I’m not giving you $30 because you said hello. My food is cold
• Jocelyn is active in the comments, and the loudest people never have a rebuttal
• Jocelyn: you’re not going off what you heard, you’re going off what you felt
• The clip that hit 400,000 views, and the comments that assigned a race to a story that never mentioned one
• Jocelyn’s pet peeve: taking a stereotype and spreading it. It does not make you look educated
• Jade: trifling is trifling. Every group does it
• Jade: the comments people leave on our content hurt my heart
• Jocelyn babysat for her brother for an hour or two. Not a trip to Miami
• Men use kids as weapons too, and nobody brings that up
• Jocelyn: blanket something on me because of the color of my skin and I’m triggered, because I try hard not to fit the stereotypes
• Baby mama drama, cheating, welfare: every community has it, and only one gets the label
• Jade: when we read it, I never thought about race. I thought, she trifling
• Jocelyn has not dealt with much outright racism, with one exception she tells
• Jade has. They followed her around with it at a job, lied on her, and reported her to HR
• Jocelyn: don’t like me because of my skin? Fine. Leave me alone. Jade: they don’t. They’re obsessed with you
• Positive stereotypes for Black people, and Jade’s problem with “if you’re lost, find a Black woman”
• Jade hates the one about all Black women being able to cook. Jade lists all Black people can dance, and Jocelyn cannot
• Jade cannot play Spades. Neither of them fits the last stereotype on the list either
• Free therapy, and does your mama know you’re in the comments doing this?

#82 - She Was Giving 70 and He Gave Nothing Back
Season 2026, Episode 82
Show notes
This week, we're talking about what happens when one person in a relationship sets every standard, gives everything, and then gets blamed for wanting equal effort back. The real-life frustration of realizing someone got comfortable on your generosity, and why the people in your corner telling you to give less might be saying more about them than about you.
Whether you have been the one giving 70, the one who got comfortable, or the friend watching it happen from the outside, this episode will feel like sitting with two people who are not afraid to say what nobody else will.
We also play a full round of Asking for a Friend covering mental health days, sex ed, overpayment ethics, ghosting, 90s R&B opinions, and the true cost of partying like you're 21 when your body is very much not.
