If you're a fan of incredible wordplay, complex rhyme schemes, and rapid-fire delivery, then this week's episode reviewing AZ's debut album, Doe or Die, is especially for you. After gaining notoriety with his standout guest verse on "Life's a Bitch" from Nas's critically acclaimed 1994 album Illmatic, AZ returned with what is arguably one of the best hip-hop albums of 1995. Backed by legendary producers like Pete Rock, Buckwild, and N.O. Joe, AZ delivers a near-flawless performance, picking up right where he left off a year earlier. Doe or Die is a masterclass in lyrical precision, vivid storytelling, and timeless production, making it one of the defining albums of its era.

In 1991, Boston wasn't considered an influential city to hip hop like New York was on the east coast or L.A. on the west. But that changed in 1991 when rapper Ed O.G. and Da Bulldogs released Life Of A Kid In The Ghetto, a highly underrated album that touches on subjects such as censorship to being a present father in your child's life. On top of great production, Ed O.G. showcases his skills on the mic throughout the album, repping his Roxbury Boston roots to the fullest.

1995 was filled with many classic hip-hop albums and one of those is this episodes' topic - the sophomore LP from group Showbiz & AG, titled Goodfellas. Continuing off the underground success of their debut in 1992, Showbiz put the mic down to fully focus on producing. This left AG to handle the bulk of the rapping, and created a much darker, yet sonically improved sound.

Following the success of their debut album just a year earlier, Kriss Kross released the 2nd album Da Bomb in 1993. Rappers Mac Daddy and Daddy Mac attempted to shed their child-like rap image by going towards a harder, West coast type of sound, with edgier lyrics and production. Though it did not sell as well as their first, it remains underrated and the perfect album to cruise to.

On episode 143 we cover Top 10 Hip-Hop Songs From 1991.

After the success of the Wu Tang Clans' debut album Enter the Wu Tang (36 chambers) - Method Man was the first of the clan members to get his solo debut album Tical released in 1994. Backed by songs like Bring the Pain, Release Yo' Delf and All I Need, Tical is held in high regards by Wu fans. RZA's dark and borderline grim beats, paired with Method Man's gravelly flow make this a bonafide classic.

A combination of remixed and new songs, including one of Cubes' best - Jackin' for Beats - Kill at Will is known as a top 5 EP and was a huge contribution in maintaining Ice Cube's success as a solo artist.

1994 saw some of the most classic releases in hip-hop and among them was the underground classic Between A Rock And A Hard Place from rap duo The Artifacts. Tame One and EL Da Sensai brought hip-hop back to its roots, focusing on MCing, DJing and graffiti-writing over boom bap beats making this album a masterpiece from start to finish.
