  1. emale Genius: Julie Hair Turns Everyday Media into Experimental Sound

    Episode 146

    Show notes

Enter the shadowy sound world of Female Genius on the Music Matters Podcast. Led by New York musician and artist Julie Hair, Female Genius transforms fragments of everyday media—social-media clips, 911 calls, and television broadcasts—into an experimental collage of sound and perspective. By shifting the context of these recordings, the band brings overlooked stories and women’s voices into focus.

Hair’s history in New York’s underground scene runs through the influential post-punk collective 3 Teens Kill 4, as well as Live Skull and other projects. That background informs Female Genius’s adventurous approach: music shaped by experimentation, visual art, and collaboration, with humor and substance taking priority over ego or virtuosity.

Music journalist and professional musician Darrell Craig Harris talks with Hair about the ideas and experiences behind the band’s distinctive work. Follow Music Matters on Apple Podcasts so you don’t miss an episode.

  2. Nevada Elections Explained: Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar Covers What Voters Need To Know

    Episode 145

    Show notes

Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar joins Darrell Craig Harris on Music Matters for a conversation about elections and the issues shaping how Nevadans vote. Aguilar discusses the Secretary of State's role, election security, voter participation, and what every voter should know. Tune in for an informative look at how elections are run in the state of Nevada and why every vote matters!

    Learn about Cisco

As Secretary, he is focused on three major principles: modernization, innovation, and transparency. Under the Secretary's leadership and vision, the office took on two major technology projects to modernize the states elections and business filings. The business filing system is making it easier than ever to do business in Nevada, and the statewide voter registration system, implemented in record time, increases security and streamlines the voter experience. Thanks to dedicated efforts to expand access to the ballot box, tribal voting turnout increased by 34% during the 2024 election.

Prior to being elected, Secretary Aguilar served twelve years as General Counsel for Agassi Graf, the management company for Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf, and the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education.
