  1. Episode 156: The New Standard For Digital PT

    Show notes

For years, we’ve been teaching clinicians and coaches what we believe great rehab for athletes should look like.

And for years, we’ve been doing that work ourselves as well. Which begged the question:

What if we stopped building this separately?

What if we took everything we’d learned, brought our online practices together, and built something bigger than any of us could build on our own?

Well, we spent the last two years doing exactly that. Can’t wait to tell you all about it.

    We hope you enjoy!

Ever feel like we have to repeat certain things to our athletes, even when we thought there was a mutual understanding? Well, let’s also consider it from the athlete’s side.

On this episode, Clinical Athlete Co-Founder Quinn Henoch discusses how to navigate our athlete education more effectively, so that even if we do have to repeat ourselves, it all just becomes a useful part of the process.

  7. Episode 150: Defining Your Role – Solocast w/ Quinn Henoch

    Show notes

Omnipresent Exercise Prescription Process Auditor (OEPPA):

    – Oh cool, you have a new athlete that you’re working with. What’s your specific role in their overall plan?

    Well Meaning Physical Therapist (WMPT):

    – I’m the Physical Therapist. I’ll be doing the Physical Therapy.

Omnipresent Exercise Prescription Process Auditor (OEPPA):

    – That means nothing to me.

“Defining Your Role” is a foundational principle of our exercise prescription and overall planning for any athlete that we’re working with.

It’s not just repeating your professional title.

It’s also where a lot of athlete rehab plans go wrong from Day 1. Don’t be that provider. Listen to this episode.

    Show notes

Quinn Henoch & Zak Gabor are back with another episode! On this show, we tackle some topics around exercise prescription that we know you wrestle with too — how far out do we program for our rehabbing athletes? Is it different than an athlete training only for “performance”? What does “periodization” really mean, and how do we balance being flexible enough with our programming to account for the volatility of rehab, while not losing sight of the big picture? They discuss it all.

    Show notes

Quinn Henoch & Zak Gabor are back with another episode! On this show, the CA squad sat down with Peter Malliaras who has done a TON of the research over the last decade on all things tendons and tendinopathy. You’ve probably come across some of his work, even if you didn’t realize it. He’s really helped to push the field forward. The cool thing is that he’s also a clinician, so he understands this stuff from multiple angles, and we all know how tricky tendon issue issues can be clinically. So, we’re super excited to have Peter share some of his knowledge with you on this one.

    Show notes

Quinn Henoch & Zak Gabor are back with another episode! On this show, the Clinical Athlete squad sat down with Kyle Thibodeaux, the owner of Refine PT & Performance. Kyle and the Refine team are one of our newest Clinical Athlete partners, and it’s a match made in heaven; because Refine is a people-first business, that puts their athletes and clients first and provides their staff with real mentorship. And that now includes the Clinical Athlete Provider certification. We pick Kyle’s brain on the types of values and habits that has helped Refine turn into a thriving and sustainable business. There are a ton of gems in this one. Also, Kyle was a part of the old Clinical Athlete Forum as a student almost a decade ago, so it’s pretty cool to see things come full circle here.

  11. Episode 146: “Hey Can I Start Using Knee Wraps & Getting Dry Needling?”

    Show notes

Quinn Henoch & Zak Gabor are back with another episode! The “Honey & Vinegar” segment makes its return, as Zak rants about what annoys him on social media, and Quinn calms the waters with a shout out to coaches and other providers who put their athletes first.

And then we talked about a couple of scenarios that were going on with their athletes that had to do with athletes posing the question of using external supports such as knee wraps during training and another about modalities, in this case dry needling. These discussions with athletes can be very fruitful, but also challenging, so we talk about that a bit here.

  12. Episode 145: Solving the Scaries of Mid Stage Rehab

    Show notes

On this show, Quinn Henoch & Zak Gabor discuss all of the things that make mid stage rehab challenging, and common pitfalls, like:

    • Sticking arbitrarily to rigid timelines and progressing before the athlete is ready
    • Waiting too long to start introducing basic entry points for your exercise categories
    • Not having a clear understanding or criteria for what qualities need to be prioritized

Also, we are VERY excited to introduce a new segment, where Zak and Quinn bring a little honey and vinegar to the rehab space — and Quinn got to put on his hater shades! We’re still open to names for this segment, so feel free to help us out!

  15. Episode 142: A Journey from Near Death to Personal Records in The Gym and in Life w/ Jared Maynard

    Show notes

On this episode we welcome a very special guest. Many of you know him already, because he’s been part of the Clinical Athlete community since 2016, and was the podcast co-host for several years. It’s Jared Maynard. He’s back! We had countless shows in the past with Jared, in which we talked X’s and O’s of training, deep sciency stuff, but this show is a little different. Jared has been on quite the ride — around this time 5 years ago, he was literally fighting for his life, spending 5 weeks in the ICU with a body that was failing him. Ask the doctors that worked with him directly, the fact that he’s talking to us now is nothing short of miraculous. So, that’s what we’re talking about today — Jared’s story, it’s one of overcoming odds and coming back stronger with some powerful messages for anyone to take away for their personal lives, their coaching, or clinical practice.

    Show notes

On this episode we have the whole Executive Clinical Athlete Provider Mentor Team — Quinn Henoch, Zak Gabor, Steph Allen, and Steph Mundt. We started as the 4 mentors in the Clinical Athlete Provider Certification Program exactly two years ago in March of 2024. Our mentor team has now grown to 8 and counting, but there’s been a ton of growth in many other aspects over the last 2 years. So, we thought it’d be a great opportunity to get the 4 of us on the show for the first time together, and reflect on the last two years. There’s a lot of great nuggets to take away from this about working with a team and continuing your professional development within leadership positions.

  17. Episode 140: The Scaries of Rehab Forecasting, Predictions, & Timelines

    Show notes

On this episode Quinn Henoch and Zak Gabor talk about a really important topic — the best Ninendo 64 games of all time. We actually do talk about that, but also, we talk about timelines in rehab and communication with our athletes around forecasting and prediction of how rehab should go, how long it will take — all of the things that give us anxiety but that we address on a regular basis in our practice. What makes up our timeline predictions? And what happens if the original timelines that we communicated don’t match up with how the athlete’s rehab is actually going? We dig into all of that and more.

Also, you ever struggle with tracking your athlete’s symptoms in rehab? Or find it to be a slippery slope to have a goal be for them to have no more pain flare ups? Me too. Let’s talk about it all.
