Ep 131 | The Most Difficult Thing For Gardeners To Believe And Why You Have To Believe It
Season 9
Show notes
Overreaction in the garden is the fastest way to grow a garden that requires you to work alot more than you should be. It is entirely possible for you to be unaffected by natural occurrences in your garden. When you see your garden through the wild child lens, and you are proactive instead of reactive, you gain confidence in your garden, in your soil, and in your plan. And that confidence will give you a garden that you love, instead of one that you are constantly reacting to.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
• What is not a crisis in the garden and what is.
• What you really need to be prepared for and be on the lookout for this season.
• The biggest crisis in the garden.
• How to transform the way that you see your garden and how you must see yourself.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:

Ep 130 | Stop Scrolling. Start Growing
Season 9
Show notes
Honest answers only. Do you spend more time in your garden or on social media in everyone else's gardens? Ouch. The truth hurts sometimes, and we are all guilty. But the endless garden scrolling isn't getting you any closer to growing a garden you love. In fact of business (as my maw maw used to say) it is actually keeping you from growing a garden that you love. The online gardens you see are meant to inspire you, not control you and keep you in a state of "one day." So stop scrolling so you can start growing.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
• The consequences of comparison when it comes to your garden.
• Why your garden is better than every other garden on the internet.
• What happens to your garden while you spend your time inside in everyone else's.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:

Ep 127 | A Tale of Two Gardeners: Same Beginning. Different Ending
Season 8
Show notes
Two gardeners.
The same nursery.
The same tomato plants.
The same dream of fresh vegetables, flowers on the table, and a garden they couldn’t wait to walk through each morning.
By spring, you couldn’t tell their gardens apart.
By fall, they couldn’t have been more different.
What changed?
It wasn’t the weather.
It wasn’t the soil.
It wasn’t talent.
And it wasn’t luck.
In this episode, we’re exploring the quiet decisions that shape an entire gardening season, and, if we’re honest, the quiet decisions that shape our lives.
Because the greatest difference between these two gardeners happened long before the first seed was planted.
It began with purpose.
If you’ve ever found yourself chasing gardening advice, feeling overwhelmed by all the opinions, or wondering why your garden never quite becomes what you imagined, this conversation is for you.
This isn’t just about growing vegetables.
It’s about growing a life.
In this episode, we’ll explore:
•
Why most gardeners don’t fail because they lack knowledge.
•
The hidden cost of gardening without a destination.
•
How one simple question can change every decision you make this season.
•
Why your garden goal has very little to do with growing bigger vegetables.
•
How to stop growing everything and start growing what matters most.
A question to carry with you:
If your garden could give you one thing this season, what would you hope it would be?
Not just a harvest.
Not just tomatoes.
But something deeper.
Peace.
Connection.
Generosity.
Confidence.
Joy.
Because once you know the answer…
you finally know where to begin.
Ready to Discover Your Own Garden Goal?
Grow Gather Give is a live guided workshop designed to help you uncover what matters most this season and create a simple, intentional plan to build your garden around it.
Because the best gardens don’t ever happen by accident.
They grow from purpose.
Until next time…

Ep 125 | Quitting While You're Ahead: The Skill Every Good Gardener Masters
Season 8
Show notes
One of the hardest gardening skills to learn isn't planting, pruning, feeding, or pest control. It's knowing when to quit. Knowing when things are done!!
This time of year, you may find yourself holding onto plants that have already served their purpose. The tomatoes are slowing down. The cucumbers are struggling. The squash is hanging on by a thread. And yet, we keep watering, feeding, spraying, and hoping.
In this episode, we're talking about the gardening skill nobody teaches: knowing when a plant's season is complete. We'll discuss why we struggle to let go, how to avoid making decisions based on a single symptom, and why your September garden depends on the choices you're making right now.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
• Why gardeners often confuse letting go with failure
• The danger of making decisions based on a single leaf, comment, or diagnosis
• How observation differs from reaction
• Three signs that a plant may have already served its purpose
• The hidden cost of holding onto struggling plants
• How today's decisions shape your September garden
• Why successful gardeners know when to quit while they're aheadResources Mentioned In This Episode

Ep 124 | What I'm Planting For The Do-Over Season
Season 8
Show notes
It's easy to look at the summer garden and think the best days are behind you. The tomatoes are slowing down. The heat is settling in. Some beds are thriving while others are looking tired. You may even be dreaming about fall and telling yourself that you'll deal with the garden later.
But here's the truth:
The September garden you want is being built right now.
In this episode, we're talking about the decisions that shape your garden's future. Because September doesn't magically arrive with a productive, beautiful garden waiting for you. The harvests, flowers, herbs, healthy soil, and cool-season success you're hoping for all begin with the choices you make today.
Whether your beds need a refresh, a replant, or a complete reset, this episode will help you stop focusing on what's ending and start focusing on what's possible.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
•
Why waiting until fall may be costing you the garden you really want
•
The three decisions every garden bed needs right now: Refresh, Replant, or Reset
•
How to create a vision for your September garden before making summer decisions
•
What crops are still thriving and producing during the Do-Over Season
•
Heat-loving vegetables, herbs, and flowers you can still plant now
•
Why momentum matters more than perfection when it comes to gardening success
•
How today's choices impact your fall harvests

Ep 123 | The Cost Of Doing Nothing In Your Garden This Summer
Season 8
Show notes
It's June, the spring garden is winding down, and many gardeners are thinking: "Should I can't wait until fall!" But in this episode, we're talking about this very common choice gardeners make this time of year: doing nothing.
Now, before you panic, this isn't about guilt or pressure. Sometimes doing nothing is the right decision. Life gets busy. Energy gets low. Priorities shift. But every choice has a consequence—and in the garden, choosing not to act is still a decision.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
• What happens when weeds, pests, and disease are left unchecked
• How fall arrives faster than most gardeners expect
• The emotional weight of unfinished garden projects
• How momentum—not perfection—creates successful gardenersWhether you're considering a refresh, a replant, a reset, or simply maintaining what you have, this episode will help you make that decision intentionally. Because whether you realize it or not, your September garden is being created by the decisions you make in June.

Ep 122 | What To Plant When The Spring Garden Slows
Season 8
Show notes
This week on Growing Gardeners, we’re talking about one of the most important mindset shifts a gardener can make. It's this: A slowing garden is not a dying garden. It’s a transitioning garden. As spring crops begin to tire and summer heat moves in, many gardeners feel overwhelmed wondering: What do I pull out? What do I plant next? Is my season over? Do I need to start over? But healthy gardens are not built in isolated seasons. They move in rhythms.
In This Episode You'll Learn:
How to transition your garden slowly instead of all at once
The beauty of succession planting
Why planting with the moon helps gardeners work with natural rhythms
How to overlap seasons for a garden that produces 52 weeks a year
What heat-loving crops to plant when spring vegetables begin slowing down
Why summer gardening can actually be the easiest season for busy women
Learning how to “move with the seasons” instead of fighting them
Follow This To Know What To Do Next
Quit While You're Ahead (what is no longer serving your garden)
Protect What's Producing (these guys get all the attention)
Plant With Purpose (strategically decide what you are planting, why, and where)

Season 8
Show notes
In this week's episode of Growing Gardeners, we’re talking about something so many gardeners — and women — are experiencing right now: Depletion.

• How cold weather and rain stress are still affecting gardens weeks later
• What “bottom of the bucket pests” really mean

• The emotional connection between exhausted gardens and exhausted women
• How gardening teaches us the importance of replenishmentThis episode is also a gentle Mother’s Day reminder:
Living things require nourishment. Healthy gardens are not built through pressure and perfection.

Ep 116 | Finding God In The Garden
Season 8
Show notes
During Holy Week, we’re reminded of a story that both begins and ends in a garden. In this special episode, I’m sharing how the garden has become more than just a place I grow food…it’s become a place where I meet with God. From the very first garden in Genesis to the garden where Jesus prayed to the garden where He rose again, there is something sacred about the soil beneath our feet. And maybe that’s why we feel it when we step outside.
In This Episode, We’ll talk About:
• Why the garden was always meant to be a place of presence—not just production
• The deeper meaning behind the parable of the sower and what it teaches us

Ep 115 | The Boring Beautiful of Gardening
Season 8
Show notes
Every garden begins with excitement. The planning. The planting. The dream of what it could become. But somewhere along the way… something shifts. New plants start calling your name. The initial excitement fades. And without even realizing it, you begin to drift away from the garden you already started. In this episode, we’re talking about the part of gardening no one really prepares you for— 👉 staying present long enough to see it work. Because the truth is this: Gardens don’t fail because you don’t know what to do. They fail because you don’t stay long enough to experience what works. This is your invitation to slow down, refocus, and return to what matters most.
In This Episode, You’ll Learn:
Why most gardens struggle after planting—not before
The hidden pattern of “shiny object syndrome”
What it really means to stay present in your garden
How the smallest, most overlooked tasks create the biggest results
A simple framework to help you build consistency and confidence
The Wild Child process of "planting well, tending well, and finishing well. This is the rhythm of a thriving garden—and a confident garden

Ep 114 | What If You're Doing It Wrong...And How To Make Sure You Get It Right!
Season 8
Show notes
What if the reason your garden struggles later in the season has nothing to do with how you planted it… but when?
In this episode of Growing Gardeners, I'm getting a little bossy as I share where I see gardeners get off track every spring—and how to avoid this altogether so that you can grow a garden that you love.
If you’ve ever planted your garden, watched it grow beautifully for a few weeks, and then slowly decline until it fades away, while you lose all excitement too, this episode will help you understand why.
Gardens aren’t meant to be planted once. They’re meant to grow continuously. And in today's episode I'm going to walk you through how to think differently about your garden so you can keep it producing, thriving, and evolving all season long.
In This Episode You'll Learn
• The biggest mistake gardeners make in spring
• Why planting your garden once leads to burnout and empty beds
• How succession planting keeps your garden productive
• Why planting in rows can create more problems than solutions
• The role of companion planting in a healthy garden
• How to plan for seasonal transitions in your garden
The 3 Biggest Spring Gardening Mistakes
1. Planting Everything at Once - When everything is planted at the same time, it all finishes at the same time. Learn how succession planting allows you to stagger your harvest and keep your garden producing longer.
2. Planting Crops Alone - Nature doesn’t grow in rows, and your garden doesn’t have to either. Learn how companion planting with herbs and flowers creates balance, reduces pests, and supports healthier plants.
3. Not Planning for Transitions - Plants don’t stay the same all season. Some will bolt, fade, and they will all finish. Learn how to anticipate these changes and keep your garden moving forward with confidence.

This is my very best advice to you here in the first week of March, and you will really want to lean in on this. With spring weather arriving, many gardeners feel the pressure. We want to plant everything, we want a perfect garden, we get paralyzed with all of the options, and we stall. My best advice for gardeners in the first week of March is simple, and if you follow it, you will be a different person in June.

Why I think that all new gardeners should just start (even if they are scared)
