Ep. 358: Chilling, Thrilling Sounds Of The Haunted Fire House
Episode 358
Show notes
This week’s show is the final frightful installment of Gothtober 2026. We hope you love this episode to death… Many are aware that we record in a refurbished fire house, but did you know that in the mid-1900s the original fire house burned to the ground? What ghosts lurk within the dark corridors and surrounding grounds where the new fire house sits? Listen to some haunting rock n’ punk n’ metal, and prepare to be creeped out, disturbed, and perhaps titillated. Happy Halloween, everyone!
What is it we do here at InObscuria? In the beginning, good always overpowered the evils of all man's sins... But in time the nations grew weak, and our cities fell to slums while evil stood strong. In the dusts of hell, lurked the blackest of hates. For he whom they feared awaited them... Now many many lifetimes later lay destroyed beaten down and only the corpses of rebels, ashes of dreams, and bloodstained streets remain... It has been written "Those who have the youth, have the future". So, come now children of the beast; be strong and shout at the devil!
Songs this week include:
1. Calabrese - “I Was A Teenage Deathstalker” from No Return From Darkness (2025)
2. Creeper - “Parasite” from Sanguivore II: Mistress Of Death (2025)

Ep. 357: Grave Mistake: HELLOWEEN Shoulda Been Huge!!! 1985-1993
Episode 357
Show notes
This week, we bring you the 3rd and final volume of “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!” from a band we’ve covered in past Gothtobers. Another in-depth exploration of a perennial Halloween favorite for us: the frightfully amazing HELLOWEEN! This German band has had a lasting impact on Kevin, but how will Robert react now that he's seen the power of metaling pumpkins live in concert?
This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that we have featured on the show several times over the years and is the end of our trilogy of deep dives. A German band that helped establish the metal genre known as, “Power Metal”. Unfortunately, their brilliance and innovation have never fully been recognized to the degree that it deserves. We think they SHOULD BE HUGE… and we are ready to fly that banner proudly!
Songs this week include:
1. Helloween - “Starlight” from Helloween - EP (1985)
2. Helloween - “Ride The Sky” from Walls Of Jericho (1985)
3. Helloween - “Judas” from Judas - EP (1986)
4. Helloween - “Future World” from Keeper Of The Seven Keys: Part I (1987)
5. Helloween - “Eagle Fly Free” from Keeper Of The Seven Keys: Part II (1988)
6. Helloween - “Heavy Metal Hamsters” from Pink Bubbles Go Ape (1991)
7. Helloween - “Victim Of Fate” from The Best, The Rest, The Rare (1991)
8. Helloween - “Step Out Of Hell” from Chameleon (1993)

Ep. 356: Obscure Werewolves In Atlanta
Episode 356
Show notes
This week, we succumb to the lunar spell and bark at the moon! What starts as a couple of buddies recording a podcast out in the woods of an Atlanta suburb, quickly becomes a life altering event after a scuffle with a wolf-like creature. Listen in as they take a furry bite out of songs, bands, or albums pertaining to the WOLF. Songs that howl and wail under the pale moonlight. Scratch that itch, and join our pack for week #3 of Gothtober!
We thought it would be a good idea to sit around the campfire and enjoy the crisp Gothtober air, but once the air felt (and sounded) like a hot breath we decided to head back inside. Did we make it in time to avoid being an evening snack? Listen in and find out! Somehow, we still managed to record a show and bring you a collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.
Songs this week include:
1. Wolfsbane – “Fell Out Of Heaven” from Live Fast, Die Fast (1989)
2. A Pale Horse Named Death – “Meet The Wolf” from And Hell Will Follow Me (2011)

Ep. 351: Grave Mistake: SLOAN Shoulda Been Huge!!! pt.2
Episode 351

This week, we are back with part 2 of a “…Shoulda Been Huge!!!” episode for Halifax, NS, Canada’s very own: SLOAN! This week’s episode is brought to you by the colors: yellow, orange, and brown. The 8th volume of our deep dive into the trippy and groovy beginnings of the heavy stuff! Cut your lava lamp on, gaze at that blacklight poster through the haze of purple smoke, and join your favorite rock n’ roll grave robbers as they dig deep into the core of 70s Acid Rock n’ Proto Metal crypt to unearth some obscure bands that helped influence and mold what would become known as Heavy Metal.
What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Well, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This particular episode is planted firmly in the LOST category, as all of these recordings occurred between 1970 – 1973. As always, our hope is that we turn you on to something new in a genre and decade that you may have thought you already knew everything there was to know.
Songs this week include:
• Zoot - “Hey Pinky” from Zoot Out (1971)
• Head Over Heels - “Road Runner” from Head Over Heels (1971)
• Fresh Blueberry Pancake - “Hassels” from Heavy (1970)

Ep. 345: In The Shadow Of... METALLICA!
Episode 345
Show notes
This week, a continuation of our series called “In The Shadow Of…”, where we compare bands to a well-established mainstream act. This is not about copycats, but about artists that have similar vibes, share a sonic soundscape, or whose songwriting and playing styles are sympatico. This is another band near and dear to both of you humble hosts. A band that sits atop the pedestal of all things “heavy”. A band that defined metal in the 80s and 90s while becoming somewhat polarizing in more recent years; the iconic METALLICA! Join us as we discover other bands who were influenced and inspired by this hella great band.
What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This is not a statement about bands trying to copy one another, but more that they have a shared sound and vision. It’s been said that there is no originality left in rock n’ roll and also been stated that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As always, we hope we turn you onto something new!

Ep. 344: Degrees Of Separation... TODD KERNS
Episode 344
Show notes
This week brings another installment of “Degrees Of Separation…,” where we dig into the side projects, supergroups, and solo releases connected to a particular artist. This time, we pay tribute to a rock n’ roll workhorse and journeyman from the Great White North: a jack-of-all-trades musician who seems to be single-handedly keeping many of the legacy artists we love in fighting shape. He’s not only a multi-instrumentalist and consummate rock star, but he also has some of the best pipes in the business. Of course, we’re talking about TODD “DAMMIT” KERNS!!!
New to InObscuria? It’s all about excavating obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While you may know Todd primarily as Slash’s bass player and backing vocalist, you may not realize just how deep his catalog of side projects runs—or how many artists he has supported throughout his career. As always, our hope is that we turn you on to something new!
