  1. Ep 371 Accountant Errors, Quiet Weeks & New Product FOMO | Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal

    Season 1, Episode 371

    Show notes

Would you spot it if your accountant got your numbers wrong? Do you get FOMO when new toxins, fillers or other products launch?

Get clinical and business education, practical tools and access to all of our WhatsApp chats with a 14-day free trial subscription to our IA Community app: https://www.insideaesthetics.com/app.html?ep=371

Dr Jake Sloane and David Segal tackle some common themes and questions that keep coming up in their work. Hear how a doctor's accounts revealed GST (Australia's goods and services tax) missing from his treatment pricing and accounts left unreconciled for months, and why every clinic owner needs a basic understanding of their own numbers.

They then cover staying even-keeled through quiet weeks, why there is no need to rush into new products, and how to judge who to trust when everyone in the industry seems to be selling something.

    What you'll learn:

    • What to ask your accountant so you can sanity check your profit and loss and balance sheet
    • Why bulk stock buys distort monthly profit, and why your accountant needs a monthly stock report
    • How to set a weekly red line and plan for quiet weeks before panic sets in
    • What a clinic actually needs to stock, and why fewer products can mean better margins
    • How to assess a new product, and company-funded studies, before you buy
    • How to check the track record of business coaches and educators

    Show notes

Episode 367 showcases our hosts Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal.

In this episode, we dive into how clinics can build a strong brand and create lasting patient loyalty in an increasingly competitive aesthetics industry. We also share practical ways to improve the clinic experience, strengthen post-care, use automation effectively, and build a brand that feels authentic and consistent.

  14. Ep 358 What Exactly Are Peptides? | Dr Rob Weiss

    Season 1, Episode 358

    Show notes

Episode 358 hosts Dr Rob Weiss (GP from Melbourne, Australia)

In this episode we explore the trending but highly controversial topic of peptides.

We discuss the background to these products, the growing demand from the general public and address the significant dangers of black-market peptides.

Our guest explains how he educated himself about this niche speciality and his thoughts about why no significant studies or evidence exists for most commonly used peptides.

We learn about his approach to using peptides in patients with musculoskeletal injuries and his clear distinction between this approach vs people using peptides for self-prescribed 'looksmaxing' and within the 'gym bro' culture.

  15. Ep 357 The Tox Talks (Chapter 13) | Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal

    Season 1, Episode 357

    Show notes

Episode 357 showcases our hosts Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal

In our mini series 'The Tox Talks', we feature expert injectors who have significant experience in using botulinum toxins. These episodes explore our guests experiences using particular brands, the evolution of their injecting techniques and we get special insights into the subtle nuances of getting the best out of toxins.

In Chapter 13 we review where we're at in the toxin market and what the implications are of having more choice. In Australia we've quickly moved from only three traditional choices (Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin) to seven (adding Letybo, Nuceiva, Relfydess, and Daxxify). This has resulted in clinical and commercial complexity for clinics and we delve into this new problem.

Patient demand, marketing pressures and questionable business choices have led some injectors to stock multiple brands - but maybe at the expense of reducing mastery, inconsistent results, poorer patient satisfaction and less profitability. We outline the common issues encountered when introducing new toxin brands whilst covering the business angles including inventory management, buying power, pricing, and communicating change with patients.

  20. Ep 352 Understanding Ingredients in Skincare | Dr Tania Romano

    Season 1, Episode 352

    Show notes

Episode 352 hosts Dr Tania Romano (Head of Medical & Education for SkinCeuticals & skinbetter science ANZ)

In this episode we go on a deep dive into what actually works when it comes to skincare - whilst debunking what might just be good marketing. Tania cuts through an oversaturated market to explain why ingredient quality, concentration and pH matter far more than what some labels usually advertise.

She then makes the evidence-based case for the some of the active ingredients that patient should consider using daily: Vitamin C and retinoids Our conversation demystifies antioxidants and free radicals, the science behind both CE Ferulic Vitamin Serum (made by SkinCeuticals) & Alto Defense Serum (made by Skinbetter Science), and why using a combination of ingredients and antioxidants trumps using Vitamin C on its own.

Tania then explains the retinoid ladder and how retinoids drive collagen synthesis at the cellular level. She sheds light on why Alpharet (made by Skinbetter Science) wasn't available for several years in Australia and how to best use this product.

We reframe the patient consult to improve patient compliance with home skincare and finally - David admits he uses beef tallow!
