  1. Pop Art: A Visit to the Guggenheim

    Season 3, Episode 1

    Show notes

Lattes & Art is back for Season 3—and we’re kicking things off in New York City.

This summer, James was joined by Ellen and Geronimo for the Manhattan Museum Adventure: several days, several museums, an unreasonable amount of art, and probably not enough cocktails. One of the highlights was the Guggenheim Museum’s POP Art exhibition, and in this episode, the three reunite to talk about what they saw, what surprised them, and what happens when art you think you already know gets a fresh look.

Ellen and Geronimo each bring their own perspective to the conversation as they revisit the artists, ideas, and wonderfully complicated world of POP Art—where advertising, celebrity, consumer culture, comics, and everyday objects crashed headfirst into the art world.

But the Manhattan Museum Adventure was also something of an experiment: a first run at the idea of guided art travel that feels less like an art history lecture and more like exploring with curious friends.

    That experiment is growing.

J-Squared Atelier is developing future Art Explorations designed to take the velvet rope out of art—combining museums, creative experiences, conversation, and a little adventure along the way.

So grab a latte and join us at the Guggenheim. We’re talking POP Art, museum adventures, and why experiencing art together might just change the way we see it.

  2. Sanctuary: When the Host Becomes the Guest

    Season 2, Episode 13

    Show notes

Host becomes guest in this special episode of Lattes & Art, presented by J-Squared Atelier.

With Madame B’s Tarot Readings invited into Sanctuary at the Cloverdale Arts Alliance, the tables get turned as Gallery Director Will McCoy steps in to interview our own James William Moore about the strange, campy, theatrical, and deeply personal world behind Madame B.

Together, they explore the creative sparks that shaped the series, the role of performance and self-portraiture in James’ work, and how tarot became both visual language and mirror. The conversation drifts through fear, camp & humor, identity, storytelling, and the complicated reality that is created when self-portraiture isn't actually about the one in the portrait.

Part artist interview, part behind-the-curtain conversation, this episode offers listeners a rare chance to hear the creator of Lattes & Art step into the guest chair and unpack the creative process behind one of his most personal bodies of work.

So light a candle, shuffle the deck, and settle in for a conversation about intuition, creativity, camp, and the beautifully messy act of making art.

Be sure to check out Cloverdale Arts Alliance where Sanctuary is showing through July 12, 2026.

Special Thanks to Plank Coffee for generously hosting the incredible coffee and amazing pastries at the recording of this episode.

  3. The Artist Statement

    Season 2, Episode 12

    Show notes

In this solo Single Shot of Lattes & Art, James William Moore takes on one of the strangest rituals in the art world: the artist statement. Why do so many artists sound thoughtful, funny, and fully human in conversation — only to turn into a cloud of institutional fog the moment they have to write about their work?

This episode dives into the weirdness of artist statements, the elitist tone so often rewarded by galleries, museums, biennials, and other art institutions, and the pressure artists feel to trade their real voice for something more “serious,” “professional,” or “institution-ready.” James unpacks how that language can become less about communication and more about class signaling, performance, and legitimacy.

Along the way, he talks about what artist statements are actually supposed to do, why so many go off the rails, and why this question feels especially urgent right now as his students head into their final project and begin wrestling with statements of their own.

Funny, pointed, and candid, this episode is a defense of clarity, honesty, and sounding like a real person — because art needs more invitations, not more velvet ropes made out of vocabulary.

  4. The Female Form: A visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum

    Season 2, Episode 11

    Show notes

On this episode of Lattes & Art, James & Jeff are on the road to the Palm Springs Art Museum for a walk-through of The Female Form, an exhibition pairing works by Tom Wesselmann and Mickalene Thomas from the collection of the Jordan B. Schnitzer and Family Foundation. What starts as a museum visit quickly opens into a deeper conversation about gaze, power, objectification, presence, agency, and how differently the female body can be framed depending on who is making the image. As they move through the galleries, James and Jeff unpack discomfort, beauty, fragmentation, personality, intimacy, and self-possession, asking what happens when the female form is presented as fantasy, fragment, presence, or power. Then, back in the studio, they reflect on what stayed with them after leaving the museum, what felt unresolved, and how our ways of seeing art — and each other — shift over time. Be sure to check the show notes for images captured in the museum of the works discussed in the episode.

  6. David Deighton: Triptych Dialogue

    Season 2, Episode 9

    Show notes

What happens when art becomes a tool for conversation, connection, and healing across division?

In this episode of Lattes & Art, James sits down with David Deighton — artist, educator, entrepreneur, world traveler, and creator of Triptych Dialogue — to talk about using art as a way to bring people together in an increasingly fractured world.

David shares how for the past six years, he has created installations in free speech areas at National Parks inviting strangers to engage across difference, listen deeply, and look for common ground.

Together, James and David explore the power of abstract art, public engagement, and meaningful dialogue — especially around subjects many people see as too taboo, too political, or too divisive to touch. This is a conversation about art not just as expression, but as action: a way to rebuild social connection in an age of digital echo chambers.

  7. Censored, Then Reborn: Expo Metro’s Pivot to Rome

    Season 2, Episode 8

    Show notes

Public art is a dare—because it doesn’t wait for permission. In this episode of Lattes & Art (presented by J-Squared Atelier), host James William Moore takes you inside the emotional and logistical reality of what happens when a major public installation gets censored. Expo Metro’s Hong Kong edition (originally slated for Dec 5–11, 2025 on Hennessy Road in Wan Chai) was suddenly shut down after a screen owner rejected the show—then the team pulled off a full, collective pivot, relocating the entire exhibition to Rome for Jan 24–25, 2026. James shares the strategic choices he made with his Madame B tarot submission—why he curated a “safer” three-card spread (King of Swords, Three of Swords, Page of Wands), which sharper cards he intentionally withheld, and the hard lesson that sometimes censorship isn’t about one image—it’s about systems that fear unpredictability. This episode is part behind-the-scenes confession, part rallying cry: feel the loss, then find another wall.

  8. Ivoys Art: Redefining Furniture as Fine Art

    Season 2, Episode 7

    Show notes

What if the pieces you live with are also the pieces that move you?

In this episode of Lattes & Art (presented by J-Squared Atelier), host James William Moore sits down with Ivelin Yosifov, aka Ivoys—the visionary behind Ivoys Art, where furniture becomes sculpture and the home becomes a gallery. Ivoys shares how he began building his practice from scratch in 2020, teaching himself as he went and trusting the visions in his head to become real-world objects.

We dive into his signature work “Superbia,” a futuristic walnut-built music installation with high-end sound, hidden compartments, and interchangeable design elements—crafted by hand tools, not big machines. Along the way, we talk about craft vs. art, embracing imperfections, mid-century modern influence, commissions (his “Make a Wish” approach), and his dream of future upcycled works sourced from around the world.

  13. World On Fire: Why We Make Art

    Season 2, Episode 2

    Show notes

When the world feels like it’s on fire — politically, socially, spiritually — what keeps us creating?

In this powerful solo episode of Lattes & Art, host James William Moore explores how art has always risen from the ashes of turmoil. From Goya’s haunting Disasters of War and Picasso’s Guernica to the bold voices of Aaron Douglas, Augusta Savage, and David Wojnarowicz, this episode traces the enduring thread of art as activism and creation as survival.

James reflects on why artists pick up their tools when silence might seem easier, how censorship reveals fear more than morality, and how art transforms pain into light. He also shares the story behind his own work, Projected Words — a searing response to the homophobia born from ignorance, religion, and power — turning hate-filled language into luminous reclamation.

Why We Make Art When the World Is Burning is a call to witness, to feel, and to create. Because when the world burns, art becomes both the record of our pain and the proof of our persistence.

  14. Reflections with Read Brown

    Season 2, Episode 1

    Show notes

In this episode of Lattes & Art, host James William Moore sits down with emerging artist Read Brown as she prepares for her debut exhibition, Saturation, at Impell Gallery.

Read’s journey into art is as unexpected as it is inspiring. She discovered photography as both a healing practice and a way of seeing the world anew. From decisive moments like her striking portrait Maria, to abstractions that transform everyday objects into painterly images, her work invites us to pause, look closer, and find beauty in the overlooked.

Together, James and Read discuss creativity born from life’s upheavals, the vulnerability of stepping into the identity of “artist” for the first time, and how art can reflect both the inner self and the outside world.

  15. American Gothic Reframed: Seeing Truth Behind the Flag

    Season 1, Episode 19

    Show notes

In this episode, host, artist, and educator James William Moore brings the lens inward — into the classroom, into the photograph, and into a national conversation on race, representation, and responsibility.

Building on a previous episode featuring Aneka Brown and the topic of cultural appropriation vs. appreciation, James reflects on what happened when he introduced Gordon Parks’ American Gothic to his art history students. Their reactions were raw, reflective, and deeply aware of the inequality embedded within one of America’s most iconic visual symbols: the flag.

Through student voices and Parks’ enduring image of Ella Watson, this episode explores how photography can be both witness and protest — and how the next generation is already seeing with clarity. This isn’t just an analysis of a photograph; it’s a reflection on who gets to define the American narrative, and what happens when we study the rightimages first.

  17. Showing Up: Madame B's Tarot Readings in Expo Metro

    Season 1, Episode 17

    Show notes

In this solo episode, I step behind the mic to share a personal reflection on creativity, commitment, and the quiet power of simply showing up for the work. Inspired by my own journey — including the creation of Madame B’s Tarot Readingsand its inclusion in the international art project Expo Metro — we explore how showing up, even on uncertain days, opens doors to unexpected opportunities.

One of those doors led to Madame B being included in the Expo Metro Art Tunnel in Barcelona, now on view until June 29th. This public art installation brings together artists from around the world, transforming city spaces into vibrant open-air galleries. You can learn more about the Art Tunnel project here.

Whether you’re an emerging artist, a seasoned creative, or someone wrestling with doubt, this episode is a reminder: showing up matters — and sometimes, it leads you all the way to Barcelona.

  18. Ink & Outrage: The Secret Activist History of Comic Books

    Season 1, Episode 16

    Show notes

Before superheroes flew across movie screens, comic books were already shaking the foundations of society. In this episode, we crack open the panels of history to reveal the bold, subversive roots of the comic book industry—where capes and speech bubbles met protest and propaganda.

Join us as we explore how early comic creators tackled racism, fascism, sexism, and war, often under the radar and sometimes under fire. From Wonder Woman’s feminist origins to the punk-fueled zines of the ’80s and the guerrilla art of street comics today, we trace how graphic storytelling became a powerful tool for resistance, identity, and cultural transformation.

  19. Divine Light & Doubt

    Season 1, Episode 15

    Show notes

In this episode of Lattes & Art, host James William Moore explores the dramatic world of Caravaggio through the lens of Pope Francis’s admiration. Why does a pope known for humility and mercy gravitate toward an artist with such a turbulent past? We break down two of Caravaggio’s most powerful works—The Calling of Saint Matthew and The Incredulity of Saint Thomas—looking closely at their use of light, realism, and raw emotion. These aren’t just paintings; they are spiritual confrontations in oil and shadow. Join us as we unpack the tension between faith and doubt, sinner and saint, and why Caravaggio’s divine drama still hits home today.
