6 Types of Women a Man Should Avoid When Choosing a Wife | The Road to Husbandhood (Part 3)
Episode 87
Show notes
If you're a man who desires marriage, learning how to choose a partner is just as important as preparing yourself to become a husband.
Attraction matters, but it isn't enough. A healthy marriage also requires compatible values, shared direction, healthy communication, and spiritual alignment.
In Part 3 of The Road to Husbandhood, we discuss six types of women men should carefully evaluate when dating with marriage in mind
We explore what these patterns can look like, why they matter, and how men can develop better discernment when choosing a potential wife.
This conversation isn't about finding a perfect woman or judging someone by a single mistake. It's about recognizing patterns, understanding compatibility, and being honest about whether a relationship aligns with your values and the marriage you want to build.
We also challenge men to examine their own dating patterns. Are you choosing based on attraction alone? Are you ignoring incompatibilities? Are you prepared to offer the same character, direction, and spiritual commitment you're looking for in a wife?
Don't just ask whether she's the woman you want. Ask whether you're both prepared to build the marriage you desire.
Welcome to Part 3 of The Road to Husbandhood, an 8-part series from Let's Talk Like Men.

Am I Ready to Be a Husband? 6 Signs Every Man Should Assess | The Road to Husbandhood (Part 2)
Episode 86
Show notes
Am I Ready to Be a Husband?
Marriage is a desire for many men, but the desire for a wife must be accompanied by preparation for the responsibility of being a husband.
In this episode, we examine six areas of personal readiness that men should assess before entering marriage.
The purpose isn't to create a standard of perfection. It's to help men recognize where they stand, identify areas for growth, and become intentional about their preparation.
The assessment: How do you respond when things don't go according to plan?
Marriage comes with unexpected challenges, difficult decisions, and seasons of pressure. A man's leadership is revealed in how he responds to those moments.
Questions to consider:
•
Can I remain composed when I'm frustrated?
•
Do I make thoughtful decisions under pressure?
•
Do people experience greater stability or greater chaos when I'm stressed?
Scripture to consider: James 1:2–4 — Perseverance develops maturity through trials.
The assessment: Do you understand your identity, your current season, and your direction?
A man preparing for marriage should be able to communicate his values, goals, convictions, and vision. This doesn't mean he must have every detail figured out. It means he is intentional about the direction of his life.
Questions to consider:
•
Do I understand who I am and what I stand for?
•
Can I communicate my goals and current challenges honestly?
•
Do I have a direction I'm actively working toward?
Scripture to consider: Proverbs 29:18 — Vision and direction matter. Read the verse in context when applying it to personal planning.
The assessment: Which one wins more often in your everyday decisions?
Marriage will test your ability to practice self-control, resist temptation, and choose what honors God over what offers immediate gratification.
Questions to consider:
•
How do I respond to temptation?
•
Do I allow anger, lust, pride, or selfishness to dictate my choices?
•
Am I developing habits that strengthen my walk with God?
Scripture to consider: Galatians 5:16–17 — The tension between the flesh and the Spirit.
The assessment: Can you acknowledge when you're wrong and take meaningful steps to change?
A husband must be willing to accept correction, own his decisions, and address the consequences of his actions rather than blame others.
Questions to consider:
•
Can I apologize without making excuses?
•
Do I follow through on the changes I promise?
•
Am I open to wise counsel and correction?
Scripture to consider: Proverbs 28:13 — Confession and turning away from wrongdoing are connected to receiving mercy.
The assessment: Can you consider another person's needs without treating it as a loss of freedom?
Marriage requires intentional love, mutual consideration, service, and a willingness to put the good of the relationship ahead of selfish impulses.
Questions to consider:
•
Do I consider how my decisions affect others?
•
Am I willing to compromise without abandoning my convictions?
•
Do I serve others only when it's convenient?
Scripture to consider: Philippians 2:3–4 — Look beyond your own interests and consider the interests of others.
The assessment: Can people depend on your word and your character?
Questions to consider:
•
Do I do what I say I'm going to do?
•
Am I consistent when nobody is watching?
•
Do I remain committed when something becomes difficult or inconvenient?
Scripture to consider: Luke 16:10 — Faithfulness in little things matters.
After assessing these six areas, identify:
•
My strengths: Where am I already demonstrating readiness?
•
My growth areas: Where am I falling short?
•
My next steps: What specific habits, decisions, or actions must change?
•
My accountability: Who can help me remain honest and consistent?
•
My progress: How will I know I'm growing?
Don't measure your readiness only by your desire for a wife. Measure your preparation by the character and responsibility you're developing.

The Seasons Every Man Must Face | What Each Season Is Trying to Build in You
Episode 84
Show notes
Every man will experience seasons of life that test him, stretch him, and require him to grow.
Some seasons feel like lack. Others bring an abundance of options. Some bring tremendous pressure, while others require surrender. Some seasons move quickly, while others feel painfully slow.
And then there are seasons of grief and rejection that force a man to learn how to keep moving forward while carrying something heavy.
In this episode of Let's Talk Like Men, we explore the different seasons every man may encounter and ask an important question:
What is this season testing in me—and what is it trying to build in me?
We discuss how a season of lack can develop trust in God and resourcefulness, how options test self-control, how pressure develops leadership and capacity, how surrender challenges the ego and strengthens faith, and how acceleration reveals what was built during the slower season.
We also explore grief and rejection—two seasons that can profoundly shape a man's emotional maturity, perseverance, confidence, and relationship with God.
If you're a man going through a difficult season, a major transition, or simply trying to understand what God may be developing in you right now, this conversation is for you.
Don't waste the season you're in. Let it build you.

How to Rebuild Trust After It’s Broken | 7 Ways to Restore Trust in a Relationship
Episode 83
Show notes
How do you rebuild trust after you've broken it?
Whether trust was damaged through lying, cheating, pornography, broken promises, secrecy, or repeated dishonesty, rebuilding a relationship requires much more than an apology.
In this episode of Let’s Talk Like Men, we discuss the practical steps men and couples can take to begin rebuilding trust after betrayal.
We talk about proactive transparency, being willing to answer difficult questions, increased accountability, creating an action plan, building a consistent track record, making home the priority, and turning reassurance into a lifestyle.
We also discuss the importance of becoming a person who lives above reproach—not simply trying to convince someone that you've changed, but actually becoming a man whose character can be trusted.
And perhaps most importantly, we address the reality that the person who was hurt is going to experience pain regardless. Rebuilding trust means giving them the truth, taking accountability, doing the work, and allowing them the freedom to decide what they want to do with the relationship.
Because you can't demand trust.
You have to rebuild it—one consistent action at a time.

7 Narratives Every Man Needs To Challenge In His Life
Episode 82
Show notes
THE NARRATIVES THAT DESTROY MEN
Every man carries a narrative.
The story he believes about himself. The story he believes about women. The story he believes about relationships. The story he believes about money, success, failure, God, and his future.
Some narratives move a man toward truth, growth, and freedom. Others quietly move him toward destruction and defeat.
In this episode, we talk about the narratives men carry without ever challenging them—and how those narratives can shape their decisions, relationships, confidence, faith, and future.
We challenge beliefs like:
• “I have to have everything figured out by a certain age.”
• “I have to be self-sufficient.”
• “I’m not a man unless I entertain multiple women.”
• “I’m not valuable unless I have money.”
• “I have to be perfect to follow God.”
• “Conflict means my relationship is in trouble.”
• “They intentionally did me wrong.”
• “She’s just making an excuse.”
• “God is punishing me rather than preparing me.”The bigger question isn't simply “What do I believe?”
It's “Why do I believe it—and what is that belief producing in me?”

Swing First: The Ability To Do Hard Things Well & Become a Resilient Man in 2026

You don't become resilient when the storm arrives. You become resilient by preparing before it comes.
In this episode of Let's Talk Like Men, we explore what it means to become a man who can do hard things well.
Life will bring challenges, temptation, disappointment, pressure, and unexpected battles. The question isn't whether difficult things will happen. The question is whether we've developed the mental, physical, spiritual, and relational strength to face them.
We discuss the importance of continually developing yourself through books, mentorship, seminars, brotherhood, and challenging environments. We also explore discipline of the body, fasting, sexual self-control, healthy habits, and the importance of removing things that weaken your ability to govern yourself.
But resilience isn't just about doing more.
Sometimes the harder thing is learning to be still with God.
We talk about the importance of intimacy with God, changing your perspective toward hardship, building a strong support system, and learning to trust God when life doesn't go according to plan.
You will face hard things.
