"Precious Little Sleep": The Book That Ruined My Life!
Season 2, Episode 2
Show notes
Reddit’s most-recommended sleep training book ruined Rosie’s life! Until she threw it in the trash.
This week Rosie finally reads all 300 pages of Precious Little Sleep by Alexis Dubief: MBA, blogger, self-described sleep expert and Spartan racer (of course). The actual advice would fit on about 20 pages. The rest is 2010s-era blog humor, a lot of charts, and a child psychologist explaining why letting your baby scream alone for 90 minutes, is a wonderful gift.
Up for judgment: a strict 7:30 bedtime (Euro summer would like a word), the sleep-industrial complex, man-man who needs his rest for the big business office, and a chapter where the book crosses from bad into downright evil.
Sarah brings the colic war stories, plus a theory about who sleep training was really invented for.
Stay until the end for the one thing this book never gives you: sleep advice from two real human moms. Completely free! No $300 course, no paid community, no white noise machine, and no robots.
Let the roast begin!!

Halloween Spectacular: Rosie meets classic movie monster "Mothra"
Show notes
Trick or treat, Millennial Moms! 🎃 This one-time Halloween special trades the parenting books for something a lot more fuzzy.
On a summer family vacation, Rosie’s brother, a die-hard horror fan, needed a stand-in co-host. So Rosie appeared as her goth alter ego, Lydia Blackthorne, and took the hot seat as the reactor for once, while “Grimmy” explained a movie she has never seen: the 1961 classic Mothra.
Along the way:
• 🧚 Tiny singing twins kidnapped for history’s dumbest business plan
• 🐛 A sea-crossing larva that Grimmy insists is adorable
• 🕷️ Peter Jackson and the lost spider pit scene from King Kong
• 🦋 Whether Mothra really is a friend to children everywhereDon’t worry: it’s more campy than creepy, safe for even the biggest scaredey-cats.

Rosie's Rants: the benefit of breastfeeding that nobody talks about
Show notes
Everyone’s heard the health claims about breastfeeding. This isn’t that episode.
Rosie is tired of formula always being called “the easy option” and breastfeeding being treated as pure sacrifice. Drawing on her experience nursing two kids in Germany, she argues for a side of the debate that almost never comes up: the ways nursing can make your life easier.
Along the way, she takes on a statistic from a much bigger podcast that she thinks is just plain wrong. She explains why she calls pumping “the worst of both worlds.”
This isn’t a lecture or a guilt trip. Rosie is clear that every family’s situation is different and “I don’t want to” is a perfectly good reason. It’s just an honest, opinionated take you probably haven’t heard before.
Listen in, then tell Rosie whether she’s right.

The Whole Brain Child: Parenting Book Cliff Notes
Season 2, Episode 1
Show notes
Two brain scientists wrote a bestseller on raising kids. Two moms read it so you don't have to.
This month Rosie and Sarah discuss The Whole-Brain Child, the bestselling guide by neuropsychiatrist Dr. Daniel J. Siegel and Dr. Tina Payne Bryson that parents are still recommending more than a decade later.
Inside this episode:
• A birthday cake gone wrong
• Why the internet loses its mind over dessert before dinner
• The Tetris trick for difficult memories
• A family trampoline mystery that still hasn't been solved
• Metaphor overload: upstairs & downstairs, baby gates, rivers, wheels and weather
• Teaching preschoolers big fancy words like "metacognition" (and "patriarchy")Is it a must-read parenting classic, or has the rest of the world caught up with it?

Rosie's Rants: In Defense of the Disney Princess
Show notes
Ariel gave up her voice for a man. Cinderella just needed a prince to save her. Jasmine was "speechless" until Disney fixed her in the remake. You've heard it all before ... and Rosie is done letting it slide.
In the first-ever Rosie's Rant, she goes to bat for the most maligned girls in the Disney canon, pulling apart what actually happens on screen versus what the discourse claims happened. There's animal friends galore, an elderly fairy godmother with a double chin, and a hot take - are princesses good actually?
Plus: internalized misogyny, provincial fascists, and why it's okay to let your kid wear the dress.
One princess really is problematic as the haters claim. Tune in to find out which one.

Bringing Up Bebe: a ROAST! One Year Anniversary Spectacular!
Season 1, Episode 14
Show notes
One year ago, this podcast started because Rosie couldn't stop ranting about Bringing Up Bébé, Pamela Druckerman's million-copy bestseller on the wisdom of French parenting. So for our anniversary, we're going back to where it all began, except this time we're dropping the diplomatic book report and just roasting the book outright. Bon appétit... or not, because French women should abstain from eating to set a good example for their daughters.
In this episode, we get into:
• The nonstop commentary on weight and appearance - even a pregnant cat gets rated hot or not
• "No bread on weekdays" and other rules that would make your ancestors riot
• The husband who is "charmingly helpless"
• Epidurals as social currency, almond moms, and cultural peer pressure
• Jean-Jacques Rousseau writing a book on child rearing after abandoning his own kids
• French women do 89% more housework than their husbands and the solution is for women to be happier about itIs author Pamela Druckerman a handmaiden of the patriarchy, a mean girl who aspires to be Regina George but is really only Gretchen, or just a cultural sponge chasing validation from whoever's in the room? We debate it.

Dad Brain by Darby Saxbe: Transgender Clownfish and the Business Case for Paternity Leave
Season 1, Episode 13
Show notes
Science says fatherhood physically rewires the male brain. The policy proposal is asking corporations, very nicely, to offer a "care day." Rosie has notes.
For their first ever Dad Book, the moms dive into Dad Brain by Darby Saxbe, PhD: a tenured professor with 20 years studying fathers, her own lab at USC on the transition to parenthood, 80+ peer-reviewed papers, and a truly unhinged number of dads in MRI machines looking at pictures of babies.
Somehow along the way we get into transgender clownfish, cortisol, mass incarceration, anthropology lessons from the movie Mamma Mia, and why gay dads split the labor just fine. Sarah wants to skip the whole debate and go straight to matriarchy.
Tune in to hear your favorite millennial moms' unhinged rants on their first book about DADS!

Two moms, one giant stack of picture books, and zero filter. In this episode of Moms of the Millennium, hosts Rosie and Sarah break down what actually makes a great children's book. The Oh Crap Potty Training Method: Parenting book Cliff Notes
Season 1, Episode 11
Show notes
Does the ultimate "potty bible" actually work? 💩
In this episode of Moms of the Millennium, hosts Rosie and Sarah tackle the infamous, ultra-popular Oh Crap! Potty Training method by Jamie Glowacki. Rosie breaks down the book's method step-by-step.
Is the "naked weekend" actually a foolproof strategy, or just a recipe for carpet disaster? The girls share their own hilarious, messy, and painfully relatable firsthand experiences with potty training their toddlers.
While the moms agree the book offers some genuinely solid advice to get your kid out of diapers, they don't hold back on the aspects that drove them crazy. For example, the slightly condescending tone and a seriously outdated, eye-roll-inducing chapter dedicated to dads. Rosie and Sarah separate the gold from the garbage.
🎧 What We Cover in This Episode:
• The Oh Crap! CliffNotes: A quick, digestible breakdown of the blocks/stages.
• Real Mom Realities: What actually happened when we tried these methods at home.
• The Good, the Bad, and the Annoying: Why some of the book's advice feels a little too rigid.
• The Dad Chapter Disaster: Our honest reaction to how the book handles fathers (spoiler: it’s not great).Whether you are currently trapped in the house with a naked toddler, planning your training weekend, or just need a good laugh with fellow millennial moms, this episode is your judgment-free guide to the potty trenches.

Autism and the Pursuit of Happiness: With guest Nakia
Episode 10
Show notes
Nakia, a mother navigating the complexities of raising a non-binary teenager with autism, joins hosts Rosie and Sarah in this deeply moving and enlightening episode.
Moving away from the medical model to focus on cultivating joy, Nakia shares tangible ways that friends and community members can provide genuine support. For example, the simple act of picking up specific preferred foods, or creating inclusive spaces by using plain language.
The conversation also dives into the medical and therapeutic landscape. Nakia offers a powerful call to action for medical professionals to assume competence by directing questions to the child rather than parents. This episode is a masterclass in advocacy, autonomy, and the power of joy in the neurodivergent community.

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother vs Untigering: Parenting book Cliff Notes
Season 1, Episode 9
Show notes
This week, Rosie and Sarah take a sharp, analytical look at the 2011 cultural phenomenon Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. While the book is often framed as a "clash of cultures," Sarah peels back the layers to look at the darker psychological undercurrents of the "Tiger" philosophy.
Rather than focusing on the individual chores or practice hours, Sarah reflects on the psychology of control. We dive into why the Tiger parenting model is a "perfect storm" for parents with narcissistic tendencies—those who view their children not as separate individuals, but as extensions of their own ego and social standing.
Key Discussion Points:
• The Child as a Trophy: the drive to use a child’s achievements (the Ivy League degree, the Carnegie Hall debut) to bolster the parent's self-image.
• The "Untigering" Framework: Moving beyond the "Tiger" archetype to reclaim autonomy. Sarah and Rosie discuss the book "Untigering" by Iris Chen. How to stop the cycle of performance-based love and transition into a parenting style rooted in unconditional love.
• The Architecture of Fear: Why "Tiger" parenting relies on emotional withdrawal and shame, and how these tools are used to keep a child’s identity fused with the parent’s expectations.
• Healing Through Community: Advice on building a community, cultivating positive relationships, and therapeutic connections that mirror your worth back to you—without the fine print of a grading rubric.Follow the creators!

Stop Shouting into the Void: The Toddler Whisperers Are Back!
Ever felt like your parenting strategy is just a series of increasingly loud “becauses”? You’re not alone. This week, Rosie and Sarah are diving back into the parenting trenches to wrap up their deep dive into the modern classic, How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen.
In Part 2, the Moms of the Millennium move past the theory and into the "The Tools in Action." It’s one thing to understand empathy; it’s another thing entirely to use it when your kid is having a meltdown in the middle of Target. The hosts walk through the book's real-world anecdotes and share their own (sometimes messy) attempts at applying these strategies in the heat of the moment.
In this episode, we cover "The Tools in Action" for:
• The Grocery Store Gauntlet: How to get through the aisles without a "cereal box standoff."
• The Bedtime Battle: Shifting from power struggles to peaceful transitions.
• Sibling Rivalry & Transitions: Practical ways to use play and "fantasy" to move from Point A to Point B.
• The Final Verdict: Why Rosie and Sarah give this book an enthusiastic thumbs up for surviving the preschool years.Whether you're dealing with a "threenager" or a spirited local toddler, this episode is packed with the empathy and humor you need to make it to bedtime.
The Consensus: It’s a thumbs up! Rosie and Sarah agree that these tools actually work when the stakes (and the screaming) are high.

How To Talk So Little Kids Will Listen: Parenting Book Cliff Notes (Part 1 of 2)
Season 1, Episode 7
Show notes
Tired of the toddler power struggles? This month on Moms of the Millennium, Rosie and Sarah are ditching the "because I said so" mantra and diving into the game-changing philosophy found in the best selling book, How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen.
Rosie goes through the book step by step, summarizing the advice for you so you don't have to read the whole thing yourself! We’re talking about the magic that happens when you stop fighting the tantrum and start leaning into the "vibe" of childhood.
The Vibe Shift: Less Friction, More Connection
Rosie and Sarah break down how to stop being the "Enforcer" and start being the "Ally" using three core shifts:
• Feelings Over Facts: We discuss why your child's "irrational" feelings are very real to them. Acknowledging the frustration of a broken cracker can actually stop a meltdown faster than a logic-filled lecture.
• The Language of Play: Life is heavy; parenting shouldn't always be. We share how using a "silly voice" or turning a chore into a quest can bypass resistance and get those shoes on in record time.
• The "No-Battle" Zone: Instead of the constant "no," learn how to describe the situation or give tiny choices that give your child a sense of autonomy without losing your mind. Why Tune In?
If you want a home that feels more like a team and less like a courtroom, this episode is your roadmap. Rosie and Sarah get raw about their own "mom-monsters" and how shifting their communication style brought the joy back to their morning routines.

Expecting Better Part 2: Parenting Book Cliff Notes
Season 1, Episode 5
Show notes
Welcome back, Millennial Moms! In Part 2 of our deep-dive into Emily Oster's game-changing book, Expecting Better: Why the Conventional Pregnancy Wisdom Is Wrong—and What You Really Need to Know, hosts Rosie and Sara are back and armed with more questions than answers.
The book uses a data-driven, economist's approach to debunk pregnancy myths—challenging "rules" about everything from caffeine and alcohol consumption to prenatal testing and delivery choices. Oster encourages expectant mothers to look at the actual evidence and make informed, individualized decisions based on risk evaluation and personal autonomy, rather than rigid, fear-based compliance.
In this episode, we're still wrestling with Oster's core arguments!
Rosie and Sara get into the nitty-gritty of the second half of the book, discussing:
• The Big Delivery Questions: Separating the facts from the fear on topics like epidurals, induction, and continuous fetal monitoring.
• Our Takeaway: Is this book truly an empowering guide for the modern Millennial Mom, or does its reliance on data miss the nuanced, emotional reality of pregnancy?A central theme of the skepticism is Oster's lack of medical credentials. While her strength lies in interpreting statistical data and cost-benefit analysis (her expertise as an economist), critics question whether a PhD in economics is sufficient to accurately interpret complex, often observational, medical research with all its subtle nuances, especially without the clinical context that a physician or public health expert would possess.
The hosts' skepticism is well-founded, as the book asks readers to trust an economist's statistical analysis over decades of medical and public health guidance, even when that analysis is subject to debate among experts.
