NAUGHTY GYM SHOW - Building Stronger Non-Monogamous Relationships

Health & Fitness, Relationships, Sexuality, Society & Culture

Naughty Gym Show is a podcast about non-monogamy, open relationships, swinging, polyamory, and the skills of building strong relationships beyond traditional monogamy.

Hosted by Scott and April Shirley, the show explores how couples and individuals can create honest, ethical, and emotionally strong non-monogamous relationships. Each episode dives into the real work of modern love, communication, jealousy, autonomy, intimacy, trust, and personal growth.

At the center of the show is a simple but radical idea: relational freedom. The belief that love grows strongest when it is chosen freely, supported by honesty, autonomy, and mutual respect rather than control or fear.

These conversations draw from the broader framework behind Wild Love Theory, a modern philosophy of relationships built around authenticity, autonomy, and expansive connection.

If you’re curious about ethical non-monogamy (ENM), exploring open relationships, navigating polyamory, or simply trying to build a more honest and resilient partnership, this show offers the conversations and skills most people were never taught.

At Naughty Gym, relationships are treated like something you train for. We talk about the philosophy, psychology, and practical skills required to build relationships that are strong enough to hold freedom, truth, desire, and real intimacy.

Expect deep conversations, practical insights, and honest stories about love, sex, commitment, and the future of relationships.

  1. MEN, STOP DOING THIS! | 3 Mistakes That Are Killing Your Non-Monogamy Game in the Lifestyle

    Episode 89

    Show notes

Guys, could you be sabotaging your own chances in the lifestyle without even realizing it?

In this episode of the Naughty Gym Show, Scott and April tackle three common mistakes they see men making in the non-monogamous community, and why these seemingly harmless habits might be making you less attractive, less confident, and less successful at building the connections you actually want.

From constantly putting yourself down to relying on your partner to break the ice, we're talking about the behaviors that can quietly work against you. And ladies, you're not entirely off the hook either! We dig into why confidence is so attractive, why genuine curiosity beats even the smoothest pickup line, and why telling someone how great you are in bed probably isn't having the effect you think it is. April also shares what actually gives her butterflies when a man approaches her, and it might surprise you.

Plus, before we get into the men, we're sharing some unforgettable highlights from our recent El Salvador retreat! From an incredibly sexy hands-on workshop with Ashley Manta to meaningful connections, hilarious mishaps, and a powerful experience giving back to the local community, this trip reminded us why we love bringing people together.

Whether you're brand new to non-monogamy or you've been in the lifestyle for years, this conversation might change the way you approach your next party, event, or potential connection. Because sometimes the secret to becoming more attractive isn't changing how you look. It's changing how you connect.

  2. You Want an Open Relationship. So Why Does It Hurt? | Ally Iseman, CRC

    Episode 88

    Show notes

When Your Mind Says Yes, But Your Body Says No

You love your partner. You genuinely want them to experience freedom, pleasure, and connection with others. You've talked about it, made agreements, and decided you're ready.

    Then it happens.

You see your partner flirting with someone, kissing someone, or enjoying an experience you've already agreed to, and suddenly your stomach drops. Your heart races. Every part of your body seems to be screaming that something is wrong.

    But is something actually wrong?

In this episode of The Naughty Gym Show, we're joined by relationship coach and jealousy expert Ally Iseman, CRC to explore one of the most confusing and difficult aspects of non-monogamy: the disconnect between what we intellectually accept and what we emotionally experience.

We get personal about our own struggles with jealousy, including the times we've hidden our feelings from each other, tried to power through uncomfortable experiences, and inadvertently made things harder by attempting to protect one another.

Ally challenges some deeply ingrained beliefs about jealousy and introduces her six-step Jealousy G.R.O.W.T.H Method, explaining how uncomfortable emotions can become opportunities for greater self-awareness, trust, and intimacy.

We also explore an important distinction: When is emotional discomfort an opportunity for growth, and when is it a sign that you're pushing yourself too far?

Whether you're curious about opening your relationship, already navigating non-monogamy, or simply trying to understand jealousy in a monogamous relationship, this conversation offers a different way to think about one of our most misunderstood emotions.

Because experiencing jealousy doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with your relationship. What matters is what you do with it.

  3. The Non-Monogamy Check-In

    Episode 87

    Show notes

What if the real question isn’t, “Why can’t I handle non-monogamy?” but instead, “What else am I already carrying?”

In this episode, Scott and April get unusually personal about something that has quietly affected their own non-monogamous relationship for years: capacity.

Non-monogamy can be emotionally demanding. And when one partner is already overwhelmed by work, family, stress, responsibility, or an unequal relational load, there may simply not be much capacity left for jealousy, uncertainty, sexual exploration, or navigating new boundaries.

But the conversation goes even deeper.

Scott and April unpack a recurring communication pattern between them. Before entering a non-monogamous environment, Scott would ask some version of, “What are you comfortable with?” His intention was to avoid assumptions and protect the relationship.

    April heard something very different.

To her, the question felt like she was being handed responsibility for deciding what Scott could or couldn’t do—and then being forced to choose between two terrible options: say yes and potentially override herself, or say no and feel responsible for disappointing him.

The breakthrough came when they realized April wasn’t asking Scott to read her mind.

She was asking for evidence that he had been paying attention.

Instead of, “Where are you?” the better question became something closer to:

“Here’s where I think we are. Here’s what I see you carrying. Here’s what I think our capacity looks like right now. How does that feel to you?”

It’s a conversation about non-monogamy, but it’s also about something much bigger: attunement, invisible labor, emotional responsibility, communication, and the difference between asking your partner to give you the answer and showing them that you’re already standing beside them trying to understand it.

If you’ve ever wondered why something that once felt exciting suddenly feels exhausting, this episode may help you understand why.

  4. Can Psychedelics Make You Better at Non-Monogamy?

    Episode 86

    Show notes

Can psychedelics actually make you better at non-monogamy?

Jealousy. Fear. Defensiveness. Insecurity. The urge to control what your partner does so you don’t have to feel something uncomfortable.

These are some of the hardest parts of opening a relationship, and in this episode, Scott sits down with Dr. Chandra Khalifian and Dr. Kayla Knopp, co-founders of Enamory, to explore whether psychedelic-assisted therapy can help us respond to those challenges differently.

Chandra and Kayla work at the intersection of couples therapy, expansive relationships, and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. Together, they explore how substances like MDMA and ketamine may temporarily reduce defensiveness, increase cognitive flexibility, deepen empathy, and make it easier to see a conflict through your partner’s eyes.

And that creates a fascinating possibility for non-monogamy: What if the goal isn’t to eliminate jealousy, fear, or insecurity?

What if the goal is to become better at experiencing those emotions without immediately trying to restrict someone else’s freedom?

    Scott, Chandra, and Kayla discuss:

    • How to talk to your partner about opening your relationship

    • Why being terrified to raise the subject may reveal a deeper issue

    • What happens in the brain when MDMA reduces fight-or-flight responses

    • Why psychedelics may make us less defensive during difficult conversations

    • How non-monogamy can expose our instinct to control what makes us uncomfortable

    • Why jealousy is information, not automatic proof that your partner has done something wrong

    • How psychedelic therapy may expand our ability to tolerate fear, insecurity, shame, and uncertainty

    • Why letting go of control can become a learnable skill

    • How psychedelics can make it easier to understand your partner’s perspective

    • What ketamine-assisted relationship therapy actually looks like

    • Why the psychedelic experience itself isn’t enough, and why integration matters

    • How to tell the difference between a meaningful psychedelic insight and simply having a strange idea while high

Scott also shares how an early MDMA experience with April unexpectedly changed the way they communicated and allowed each of them to hear things from the other that had previously been much harder to receive.

This isn’t a conversation about using psychedelics to magically make non-monogamy easy. It’s about whether psychedelic-assisted therapy might help us develop some of the very capacities non-monogamy demands: emotional flexibility, empathy, curiosity, perspective-taking, and the ability to experience discomfort without immediately trying to control the person we love.

  5. Special Episode: Men Need Male Relationships

    Episode 85

    Show notes

What happens when a bunch of men who aren’t particularly interested in going to a men’s retreat actually spend a weekend together?

Apparently, something none of us expected.

When Mancation Mountain was created, the plan was pretty simple: get a group of guys together in an incredible Smoky Mountain mansion, eat great food, play poker and pickleball, drink, laugh, hang out, and squeeze in about 90 minutes a day talking about relationships.

Because, realistically, how much “deep conversation” are a bunch of guys going to tolerate?

Last year, those 90-minute conversations kept turning into four-hour conversations. The guys themselves didn’t want them to end.

In this episode, Scott sits down with two men who attended the first Mancation Mountain to talk about what actually happened there, including what they expected going in, why some of the men almost didn’t come at all, and how a weekend built around having fun unexpectedly became one of the most meaningful experiences many of them had ever had.

They talk openly about relationships, sex, insecurity, erectile dysfunction, childhood baggage, non-monogamy, marriage, anxiety, and things some men admitted they had never told another person in their lives.

But this isn’t therapy camp, and it isn’t four days of sitting around crying.

It’s about something a lot of men may not realize they’re missing until they experience it: real friendships with other men who can hear the complicated, uncomfortable, deeply personal parts of your life without judging you, fixing you, or turning the conversation into wife-bashing.

Mancation Mountain is sex-positive, but it isn’t just for men in non-monogamous relationships. Last year included straight, gay, bisexual, monogamous, non-monogamous, partnered, and single men. The common denominator was simply being open-minded enough to let other people live differently than you do.

If the phrase “men’s retreat” makes you slightly uncomfortable, this episode may be especially worth hearing.

Because several of the men who felt exactly that way going in were the same ones saying, three days later: “I had no idea I needed this.”

  6. Barcelona Recap & Our Two-Year Transparency Misunderstanding

    Episode 84

    Show notes

We’re back from Europe, and somehow we came home with more than great food, unforgettable stories, and a ridiculous amount of sweat.

In this episode, we recap our eight-day Naughty Gym/Aya Society trip outside Barcelona with 29 friends, including connection circles, skinny dipping at a 500-year-old villa, late nights in the Gothic Quarter, an unforgettable drag show in Sitges, April watching her grandson being born over FaceTime while standing outside Sagrada Família, and a few lessons about what happens when Scott attempts to navigate European public transportation.

Then we head to Rome, where a bucket-list trip became far more emotional than either of us expected. But somewhere between the Vatican, ancient ruins, wine, and long dinners, we also uncovered something much bigger: a misunderstanding that had quietly been affecting our relationship for nearly two years.

It started with something Scott once said publicly: “When I’m sitting in front of someone, I’m trying to fall deeply in love with them.” Scott thought he was describing presence, curiosity, and allowing himself to connect deeply with another human being. April heard something very different, and instead of telling him how frightening that idea felt, she spent two years trying to make herself become okay with it.

That realization turned into a conversation about one of the central pillars of *Wild Love Theory*: transparency. What happens when one person isn’t precise about what they mean and the other person isn’t honest about what they feel? When does “doing the work” become forcing yourself to tolerate something your body keeps rejecting? And how can our partners truly know us if we’re showing them the person we think we’re supposed to be instead of the person we actually are? Apparently even the people who wrote the book can mess this stuff up.

Plus, we talk about what we learned from Barcelona, why future Aya Society trips may look a little different, our upcoming events, and the release of Wild Love Theory.

  7. Jealousy in Non-Monogamy: Invisible Contracts & Unspoken Expectations

    Episode 83

    Show notes

What happens when you really click with another person or couple, maybe even have great sex, and then find yourself hurt or jealous when they connect with someone else?

In Episode 83, April and Scott talk about the invisible agreements we sometimes create in non-monogamy without ever discussing them.

Maybe you’ve played together before and assumed it would happen again. Maybe you went to an event together expecting to spend the night together. Maybe you felt close to someone and were surprised by your jealousy when they met someone new. Problems can arise when those assumptions affect how we treat someone who never knew we had them.

We also explore how differently people experience sexual desire. Attraction, chemistry, and opportunity may lead one person toward sex, while someone else can enjoy the same chemistry without wanting to take it further. Previous sex doesn’t guarantee future sex.

We talk about what happens when disappointment creates pressure, why someone else shouldn’t have to manage our reaction to hearing no, and how this can affect consent. April also shares how fear of disappointing people influenced some of her own choices in the past.

Plus, we get into jealousy between friends and play partners, compersion, autonomy, community, and why communicating our hopes can prevent unspoken expectations from creating hurt feelings.

  8. Menopause Unfiltered: Pelvic Health, Better Sex & the Power of Women’s Community

    Episode 82

    Show notes

Perimenopause and menopause can affect far more than your cycle—they can reshape your sleep, strength, confidence, sexuality, and relationships. In this candid episode, April and co-host Catherine of Expansive Connection explore how women can move through this transition feeling informed, empowered, and fully connected to their bodies.

Pelvic-floor specialist Cara explains why common symptoms shouldn’t simply be dismissed as “normal,” how breathing and mobility support pelvic health, and why the pelvic floor matters for movement, pain, sexual function, and stronger orgasms. Returning Wild & Wise attendees Teresa and Sharon also share how the retreat helped them rediscover self-love, gain practical knowledge, form genuine friendships, and feel less alone.

You’ll also hear what’s planned for the 2026 Wild & Wise Retreat, from fitness, nutrition, hormones, relationships, and pleasure to yoga, nourishing food, intentional downtime, and honest conversations in a welcoming, sex-positive space. Whether you’re approaching perimenopause, already in it, or navigating life after menopause, this episode is a powerful reminder: you are not broken, you don’t have to suffer silently, and you deserve support.

    * The meaning behind “As You Are”

    * Our vision for the future

  10. Naughty Gym Invades X-Club: Inside A Lifestyle Weekend In Toronto

    Episode 80

    Show notes

We just got home from hosting our first Naughty Gym weekend at X Club, and we are telling the whole story.

In this episode, Scott, April, and Andy recap four days at one of the most impressive lifestyle clubs they have visited. They share what surprised them about X Club, why it felt welcoming for both first-timers and longtime lifestyle people, how the club separates partying from play, and why that setup made the entire experience feel safer, easier, and far less overwhelming.

They talk pool parties, late-night dancing, Luna Matatas’s workshops, a packed Saturday-night crowd, the people they met, and the unexpected truth that they went to a huge lifestyle event mostly to dance, talk, connect, and enjoy the energy.

The conversation also goes deeper into what helped April feel unusually relaxed and free during the weekend, why rigid relationship agreements did not work for them, how couples can stay connected without turning an event into a contract, and why everyone has to find their own version of comfort, curiosity, and play.

Plus, there is an ice-maker discovery, a drag-queen ambush, a bank-account hack, a questionable amount of DoorDash, and a reminder that Andy may be the most dedicated hotel-room vacationer alive.

Whether you are curious about X Club, considering your first lifestyle event, or simply want the behind-the-scenes story of a wild weekend with friends, this episode is for you.

  11. Dealing With Fears & Insecurities in Non-Monogamy

    Episode 79

    Show notes

Fear, jealousy, and insecurity are some of the most common struggles couples face in the lifestyle, swinging, open relationships, and ethical non-monogamy. But what should you actually do when those feelings show up?

In this episode of The Naughty Gym Show, April and Scott talk about the normal fears that come up in the lifestyle, including body comparison, fear of being replaced, anxiety around texting, repeat partners, kissing, solo dates, separate-room play, and the stories our brains create when we feel triggered.

Most couples respond to fear by creating a new rule. Sometimes that can be helpful. Temporary agreements can act as scaffolding while trust and emotional capacity are being built. But when rules become the permanent solution, they can quietly turn into a cage.

Scott and April introduce two practical frameworks from their upcoming Wild Love Theory workbook:

    The R.U.L.E. Pattern

    React to the Trigger

    Unpack the Pain

    Limit the Behavior

    Enforce the Rule

This is the common path couples take when fear shows up.

    The F.R.E.E. Framework

    Find the Real Fear

    Reexamine the Story

    Express the Need Without Control

    Expand Capacity

This is a healthier way to process jealousy and insecurity without immediately turning fear into restriction.

They also share personal examples from their own non-monogamous journey, including how insecurity can be connected to body image, relationship load, disconnection, old wounds, overwhelm, and feeling undesirable or unchosen.

This episode is for anyone in the lifestyle, curious about ethical non-monogamy, or trying to understand how to deal with jealousy, rules, boundaries, insecurity, and fear without making each other smaller.

The goal is not to build enough rules that nobody ever gets scared. The goal is to build enough capacity that fear no longer has to run the relationship.

  12. The Bad Prophet: You’re Probably Not as Good at Reading People as You Think

    Episode 78

    Show notes

How good are you really at reading people?

Most of us like to believe we are above average at detecting lies, sensing energy, reading body language, picking up on vibes, and knowing what someone “really means.” But the research tells a very different story. In this episode, April and Scott unpack one of the most quietly destructive patterns in relationships: the confidence we place in our own interpretations, especially when fear gets involved.

They begin with a hilarious and painfully revealing self-test. Are you better than average at spotting a liar? A better driver? Less biased than most people? More emotionally intelligent? Like most of us, April has strong answers. Then Scott brings in the numbers, including studies showing that people are barely better than chance at detecting lies, wildly overestimate their own abilities, and almost never think they are more biased than the average person.

From there, the conversation turns personal.

April shares how old survival patterns can make her misread silence, body language, or a delayed response as evidence that something is wrong. Scott tells a story he has never shared before about seeing April texting, feeling an instant threat response, checking her phone, and realizing she had simply been messaging her son about her grandbaby. Nothing was wrong, but his body had already built a case.

This is the heart of what they call The Bad Prophet in their upcoming book, Wild Love Theory: the part of us that takes partial information, adds old pain, turns fear into certainty, and predicts a future that may not be real.

In non-monogamy, the Bad Prophet can be especially powerful. A partner flirts with someone else, makes out with someone else, gets quiet, seems distracted, or does something slightly unexpected, and suddenly the mind begins narrating: I’m not enough. They want them more. I’m losing them. This means something about my worth.

But pain is not always proof. A body reaction is real, but the story attached to it may be wrong.

April and Scott also introduce the opposite practice: The Unprophet. Instead of treating your first fear-story as truth, you learn to slow down, separate fact from interpretation, ask better questions, give your nervous system time to settle, and make room for explanations that fear did not choose first.

This episode is funny, vulnerable, research-backed, and deeply practical for anyone navigating love, jealousy, non-monogamy, conflict, insecurity, or old relational wounds.

You may be intuitive. You may be emotionally intelligent. You may even be right sometimes.

But this episode asks the harder question:

What if the story that feels most true is only the first draft?

  13. The Opportunity: Investing In A Lifestyle Resort & The Power Of Why In Non-Monogamy

    Episode 77

    Show notes

Yes, we’re part of a new lifestyle resort project in Florida, and in this episode we bring on Jimmy Thorpe to talk about the vision, the opportunity, and what could become one of the most exciting lifestyle destinations in the United States.

But the real story is bigger than the property.

This conversation is about where non monogamy is headed. For a long time, a lot of lifestyle spaces have been built around the same basic formula: drinks, DJs, sex, and weekend parties. And while there is absolutely a place for that, we believe the community is ready for something more.

We talk about creating spaces where non monogamy is not just about who you play with, but how deeply you connect, how freely you show up, and how much room there is for people to grow. That means better events, more thoughtful programming, wellness, education, community, inclusivity, and a culture where people can enjoy the atmosphere without pressure.

In the second half of the episode, we dig into a question every non monogamous person and couple should ask:

Why are we actually doing this?

Our answer has changed a lot over the years. What started as something much more sex focused has become about connection, authenticity, freedom, and building a life where we do not have to edit ourselves down to stay accepted.

So yes, this episode is about a resort.

But it is really about the future of non monogamy, and what it might look like to build spaces that are strong enough to hold more freedom, more honesty, and more human connection.

  14. Wild Love Retreat - What Really Happens When You Live This?

    Episode 76

    Show notes

In this episode, April, Scott, and therapist Catherine from Expansive Connection unpack the raw, surprising, and powerful reality of the very first Wild Love Theory retreat. They share what shocked them most, what couples struggled with, what breakthroughs happened in real time, and why the weekend felt deeper than any of them expected.

From vulnerable men opening up, to hard conversations about freedom, boundaries, burdens, trust, and emotional work, this is an honest behind-the-scenes look at what happens when relationship theory gets tested in real life. They also talk about who this retreat is for, who may not be ready for it yet, and what’s next for Wild Love Theory as the book release gets closer.

If you’ve ever wondered what it actually looks like to live this work instead of just talk about it, this episode is for you.

  15. April On The Non-Monogamy Hot Seat: Questions To Argue About

    Episode 75

    Show notes

In this episode of the Naughty Gym Show, April and Scott pull back the curtain on one of the biggest shifts in their relationship so far: removing boundaries, testing freedom in real life, and learning what trust actually looks like when it is no longer theoretical.

They talk openly about a major miscommunication that turned into a powerful experiment in non-monogamy, what happened when April gave Scott full freedom for 30 days, and how two unexpected real-world experiences challenged both of them to regulate, trust, and grow.

From there, Scott puts April in the hot seat with raw, unfiltered questions about attraction, jealousy, one-penis policies, no-kissing rules, sexual innuendo, confidence, gossip, privacy, and the biggest turn-offs in both men and women. The result is one of their most candid conversations yet about autonomy, desire, emotional safety, and what healthy freedom actually requires.

They also share updates on the upcoming Wild Love Theory retreat, Toronto X Club, Barcelona, El Salvador, new November events, and the huge news that they are officially under contract to purchase a lifestyle resort in Florida.

This episode is honest, funny, provocative, and full of the kinds of relationship conversations most people are too afraid to have out loud.

  16. Rewriting Our Relationship Rules: Rethinking Boundaries Together

    Episode 74

    Show notes

In this raw and deeply personal episode of The Naughty Gym Show, April and Scott pull back the curtain on one of the hardest parts of open relationships and relational freedom: how couples actually revisit rules, boundaries, jealousy, and emotional capacity in real time.

Using a powerful tool from their upcoming Wild Love Theory book and workbook, they walk through the exact process they use to identify hidden relationship rules, examine fear-based restrictions, and decide what freedom they are actually ready for. Along the way, they share a live, vulnerable conversation about private texting, dating, jealousy, trust, nervous system regulation, and what it really takes to expand freedom without blowing up connection.

But this episode goes even deeper. April and Scott also explore a second kind of restriction that many couples miss entirely: imposed emotional burdens. They talk honestly about how unequal household labor, mental load, and invisible responsibilities can quietly destroy capacity for intimacy, desire, and relational freedom, and why no relationship can feel truly expansive when one partner is carrying too much.

If you are navigating open relationships, non-monogamy, marriage, boundaries, jealousy, communication, emotional labor, or relationship growth, this episode gives you an unusually honest look at what that work actually sounds like inside a real partnership.

  17. Starting Non-Monogamy - A Real Couple's Experience

    Episode 73

    Show notes

Before we jump into today’s conversation, we share a major announcement: after months of quiet work behind the scenes, we reveal that we’ve been involved with a group that is under contract to acquire what many consider one of the premier lifestyle resorts in Florida. Because of SEC rules, we have to be careful about what we say publicly, but we’re excited to share the project, the vision, and the role we hope to play in helping shape its future.

After that, we sit down with two very special guests, Clint and Danine, our first-ever Naughty Gym members and longtime friends, for a candid conversation about their journey into non-monogamy. They share how an unexpected early experience got put on the shelf for years, how their marriage nearly fell apart before deeper self-work changed everything, and what it looked like to move from survival mode into a more expansive, honest, and adventurous partnership.

This is a fun, raw, and deeply personal episode about growth, sexuality, healing, and what can become possible when a couple stops settling for the default script.

  18. Angry Feminist Era Activated: Unlearning Purity Culture & Defensive Masculinity

    Episode 72

    Show notes

This week on The Naughty Gym Show, April takes the wheel for a real-time life update that starts with a chaotic wine-night incident (yes—April fell down 13 of 15 stairs in plush slippers… and Scott’s first response was to laugh 🙃) and turns into one of your most honest conversations yet.

From there, you unpack what’s been swirling behind the scenes: launching your Patreon (with tiers starting at $3/month), opening bookings for your November retreats (aka “Naughty Gym Month”), and the stress of college + military academy decisions as your youngest son heads toward a major next chapter.

Then the episode shifts into the deeper work: purity culture, sexual trauma, voice, righteous anger, and what it looks like to unlearn the systems that shaped both of you—especially in a conservative Southern context. You talk masculinity/femininity language, the “man box,” emotional labor and the invisible mental load, and why “just tell me what to do” isn’t partnership. Scott shares what he’s learning in therapy (and how even saying “I helped you” can quietly reinforce old roles), and you both name the goal: a relationship where men do their own inner work, women don’t have to carry the whole emotional burden, and both partners get to feel freer—and closer—because of it.

Plus: you tease an After Chat on Patreon that allegedly tops the infamous “pissing on the couch” story (and may permanently lower Scott’s sex appeal, according to April).

Listen, laugh, and maybe get a little wrecked—in the best way.

    Episode 71

    Show notes

What if the goal is not to erase jealousy, but to stop letting it drive the car? Dr. Marie Thouin joins April and Scott to define compersion in clear, grounded terms, and to explain why it can show up as an emotion, an attitude, or even simple supportive neutrality. They talk about the spectrum from “I can handle this” to genuine joy, the “second arrow” of self-inflicted suffering, and the conditions that make compersion more likely: security in self, security in the relationship, supportive community, and more.

The episode also explores how autonomy and trust intersect with boundaries, when “training wheels” help, and how to tell the difference between growth discomfort and self-abandonment.

  20. Reframing Jealousy: Why The Word "Reclaiming" Gives Us The Ick

    Episode 70

    Show notes

Jealousy isn’t always about fear of losing your partner. Sometimes it’s about losing yourself. In this episode, April and Scott share a real, recent story from their open-relationship journey that completely reframed what jealousy can mean—and it leads to a breakthrough concept they call “imposed burdens.”

After Scott goes on a separate date (with April’s full consent and clear emotional parameters), April is surprised by a familiar “pit in the stomach”… but it isn’t abandonment, comparison, or panic. It’s something quieter and more revealing: envy of the freedom Scott has to play, explore, and dream—because she’s carrying the invisible weight of life logistics, emotional labor, and household admin. The conversation turns into a powerful (and practical) exploration of how “freedom” in a relationship can be technically true while still being impossible to access.

They also unpack why the phrase “reclaiming your partner” gives them the ick—and why “reclamation sex” can sometimes smuggle in ownership, control, or reassurance-seeking disguised as intimacy. Instead, they share what reconnection looks like for them (spoiler: it’s more about presence, honesty, and nervous-system safety than performing a ritual).

If you’ve ever felt jealous and couldn’t explain why… if you’re doing “the work” but still feel stuck… or if you’ve wondered whether rules are helping you heal or just helping you avoid… this one will hit.

Plus: a behind-the-scenes update on their upcoming Wild Love Theory book release, the new Wild Love Book Circle, and their April retreat in the Smoky Mountains.
