PCCI Podcast 🏏

Cricket, Sports

This is the official pod for all cricket tragics. From the trauma of the 90s to the heights of the Noughties, if you are a cricket fan, this is the pod for you. Also, if you love the niche and the obscure discussions around cricket (color of TV graphics in the 90s, broadcast theme music), this is also the pod for you. This is as much the pod for a Noel David fan as it is for an ABD fan!

Joining us at different points in today’s episode are Nishant, Sarthak, Saurabh, Aditya, Richa and MV.

We begin with the second Test between South Africa and Australia, looking at the performances of Temba Bavuma, Scott Boland, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada, and what stood out from the contest. And of course, Rajdeep Sardesai weighs in with his prediction for the third Test.

From there, it’s time for Rondo. Nishant, Sarthak and Saurabh take on the task of naming all 22 players who featured in the 1999 World Cup semi-final between Australia and South Africa. A game that, 27 years later, still lives rent-free in cricket fans' heads. The memories these three have is quite something, and you’ll love this round of Rondo!

We then head to Rawalpindi for England and Sri Lanka, where we discuss the absolute wonders of Harry Brook, and a rather fundamental question: how does a cricket Tri-series not have a streaming partner in the largest Cricket market? At a time when cricket is trying to grow its audience, making the product difficult to watch seems like a fairly unusual strategy.

And just when you think we’ve seen enough runs, Sri Lanka go and chase down 430, twenty years after Australia’s famous 434 against South Africa.

Finally, we turn our attention to Indian cricket off the field. We get into the PR strategies of Indian cricketers, how carefully their public images are managed, and the rather uncomfortable captaincy transition in Indian women’s cricket. The move from Harmanpreet Kaur to Smriti Mandhana raises some serious questions about communication, transparency and whether there was any discernible process at all.

So, we’ve got Test cricket, many trips down memory lane, extraordinary batting, questions about the business of broadcasting, and a look at how Indian cricket manages its stars and its leadership.

On this pod, Richa and MV are joined by Eddie Fitzgibbon.

It's not just about the players but keeping the fan at the centre of a lot of these conversations.

We also take a few (okay, many) digs at Lucknow Super Giants, debate Rajasthan Royals’ inevitable late-season fade despite one panelist backing them to win it all, break down Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s newfound efficiency, and make the case for Punjab Kings as the team to beat this year.

    • Nishant isn't buying what the Punjab Kings are selling this year
    • Sarthak, Nishant, and MV talk about the absurdity of Ryan Rickleton's age and QdK's selection chances. Not to miss their chat about Rohit and the short-haired man.

  20. Project Milaap with Sharda Ugra, Mohammad Isam & Ahmer Naqvi

    Show notes

In what can only be classified as a coup (and as South Asians, we don’t use this term lightly), we have Sharda Ugra, Ahmer Naqvi, and Mohammad Isam to talk through the recent crisis in international cricket.

We often explore these themes through Shah Rukh's movie metaphors, starting with K3G and ending with Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.

The episode serves as a reminder that we need to keep lines of communication open between the public, and it’s even more important to do this with the current media landscape.

We briefly touch upon the associates at this World Cup and who we are most looking forward to watching.

Our guests are joined by hosts Richa, Nishant, Sarthak, and MV.
