95 // Why I Don't Believe in Niching Down on Etsy (At First)

One of the biggest pieces of Etsy advice I completely disagree with is that you have to pick your niche before you even start your shop.
Apparently, somewhere out there, the Etsy Niche Police are waiting to arrest you if you sell a teacher printable, a wedding invitation, and a meal planner in the same shop.
I don't think that's true.
In fact, I think choosing a niche too early is one of the fastest ways to build your shop around your own assumptions instead of actual buyer demand.
Now, don't get me wrong. I absolutely believe that many successful Etsy sellers eventually become known for something.
I just don't think you have enough information to force that decision before you've even made your first few sales.
So today, we're talking about why I think the market should have a vote before you decide what your niche is... and why I'm asking you not to call the Etsy niche police just yet. 😄

And I still wouldn't create them.
Not because they're bad ideas. Not because YOU shouldn't sell them. But because after more than 100,000 digital product sales, I've learned that "Will this make money?" isn't the only question I ask before creating something.
Today, I'm sharing the Etsy products I personally would never create—and more importantly, the reasons why. Because I think choosing what not to sell is just as important as choosing what to sell.
A good opportunity on Etsy doesn't automatically mean it's a good opportunity for me.

Okay… here are the 7 biggest things I’ve learned after making over 100,000 sales on Etsy and building a Top 0.1% Etsy shop… twice ✌️
Okay okay… technically one is a Top 0.1% shop and the other one is “only” a Top 1% shop right now… but she’s still under a year old so give a girl a minute.

So… I did a thing. I decided to homeschool my son this year.
And before you picture me color-coding lesson plans and building a chicken coop, hear me out - this decision came straight from my heart.Every child thrives differently, and over the summer, we realized that our youngest really needed something more individualized… more one-on-one. As a former teacher, I saw the signs - he was starting to slip through the cracks. And when he asked to be homeschooled, I just couldn’t say no.
But as I started researching curriculums and joining homeschool communities, something really stood out - so many moms want to homeschool but feel like they can’t afford to. They want to be home, but they still need to help provide.
And that’s when it hit me - what I’ve built with digital products on Etsy is exactly what so many of these families are searching for. A way to teach their kids, be present, and still contribute financially - without sacrificing their sanity.
So in today’s episode, I’m opening up about our decision to homeschool, how I’ve built a business that gives me this freedom, and how you can do it too.
