This month’s episode is another short ReView! What is a “ReView” episode, you might ask? Well, it’s my highly-clever (ok not really) name for episodes where I go back and revisit an older title I haven’t seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time’s gone by. What did Toei and Marvel Studios have in common in the 80s? Monster movies! And with Deaf Crocodile's new bluray release coming soon, what better time than Halloween to revisit an anime TV movie staring the infamous Frankenstein--err, Franken! 1981's Frankenstein: Legend of Terror! But is this take on the classic science-fiction horror monster worth your time? Grab your favorite Halloween candy and lets find out together!

A brand new sequel series to the original Samurai Troopers anime started earlier this year! But many fans know it better under it's American localized title, Ronin Warriors. So what better time to go back and reminisce about this beloved 80s series that was such a big part of our anime experience? We ramble on about the original series and its characters, why we love them, and how it uses a lot of the same mechanics that we also see in the magical girl & tokusatsu shows we adore, as well as what we think of the brand new sequel Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers (MILD SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST FEW EPISODES!) and what it gets right that so many sequels don't. So don your armor and jump into the thick of it with us, as we also answer some of your burning questions!

Your host is finally back from their podcasting break! With Crunchyroll finally pulling the plug on the last remnants of the once mighty Rightstuf online store...where is an anime fan supposed to shop that isn't just another faceless, soulless corporation?! I set out the call to you, my listeners, to give us your recommendations! Returning friend Rachel, who is also a big proponent of physical media, joins me as we chat about your recommendations, some of the places we love to shop, reminiscing about shopping for anime & manga back when it was a LOT harder, and just try to keep laughing despite all the annoyances this year continues to bring us. Join us, and maybe find a few new places to buy your next obsession.

This month, Animeigo's Kickstarter bluray for Dagger of Kamui found it's way to my doorstep one cold December morning...so what better time to revisit this 80s Rintaro classic? This movie truly has everything: Ninja, monks, psychedelic flashing colors, cowboys, treasure hunts, a banger soundtrack, and even Mark Twain! But is that truly enough to make this movie great? Let's revisit it and find out!

We discuss eggs-actly why this movie being officially released in America after all this time is a pretty big deal, and just why we enjoy a movie with huge chunks of no one talking at all! Plus: Answering your questions, and I promise very minimal egg related puns & yolks--I mean, jokes. It's almost Halloween! So for this month's ReView episode, I'm revisiting a fun-sized shoujo horror OVA. Based on a 70s manga and animated in the 80s by some of the top horror anime staff at Madhouse, it's the Bride of Deimos OVA! This SUBTEMBER, I'm giving everyone a chance to preview my subscribers-only podcast, The Secret Anime Club! Since just recently, the official Sailor Moon Youtube Channel let folks watch official recordings of Sailor Moon: The Super Live, I figured this episode where I talk to friend of the podcast Laura Watton about our experiences watching The Super Live in the US and the UK, would be one that a lot of you might enjoy. Here's my original description for the episode:

On this episode, we talk about how it feels like we've gone back in time when it comes to anime we're watching (from Ranma 1/2 and Dragon Ball Daima, to Gundam G-Quacks!), and I talk a little bit about seeing Tomcat's Big Adventure on the big screen! Then, we dig into our experiences seeing the stage show Sailor Moon: The Super Live--Laura seeing it in the UK, and me seeing it it on the USA tour. Were there any big differences between the two productions? Let's find out!

This month, I'm revisiting one of Tezuka's TV films in a brand new way: New anime publisher SkySet Entertainment has released the 80s sci-fi fantasy film A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose on bluray in America--and they created a full English dub for it! So what better time to both revisit this somewhat obscure classic to see if I still enjoy it, AND to see how the new English dub sounds. How does anime Spock sound in English? Well, let's find out!

Author Erica Victoria Espejo has not only been an anime fan since the 90s, she's been going to cons & writing about it for over 20 years! And now, she's written a book called The Fangirl Diaries: Finding Community in Anime Fandom of the 90s & 00s, chronicling early anime fandom and cosplay through her lived experience in it while growing up as a queer, femme Asian. Listen in as we discuss daring to share stories of cringey youth, the evolution of fandom, cosplay, and anime conventions, and what it was like to write a book about it all.

This month, I'm joined by returning champion Tricia to check out the brand new Mappa-animated Rose of Versailles anime film on Netflix. Released a whopping 46 years after it's first anime adaptation (and a musical to boot?!), what do we, as Rose of Versailles fans, think of this new vision of Oscar & company? Well...it definitely surprised us, alright, but it also left us asking quite a lot of questions. Listen in as we discuss what we thought worked, what we thought didn't, and answer your burning questions--like what other anime & manga should get musicals!

This month, we’re returning to my Creative Conversations series! In these episodes, I talk to people in various creative fields making things today who were greatly inspired by anime & manga, and are using that inspiration today to make their own cool things. This time, we’re talking to Eisner-Nominated comic artist, writer, colorist, and occasional cosplayer Sarah Myer (They/Them)! We discuss how growing up loving cartoons & anime not only had a big impact on their life, but how fandom was a major plot point in their incredible auto-biographical graphic novel Monstrous: A Transracial Adoption Story. We also talk about early fandom memories, cosplay, how both TMNT and Evangelion have always been there for them, and answering your questions!
