Episode 009: In the Flame of Error
Season 1, Episode 9
Show notes
Things get real as we dive into "In the Flame of Error" - a devastating thematic track with some crazy music to go along with it.
In this episode we break down the tragic ending of the Pearl & Leonard Hohenberger saga. We also go in depth on Chris Pennie's absolutely insane drumming, the frantic interplay between Claudio and Travis's guitars, and the dark, cinematic production that makes this song such a standout.
We also read some brutal but funny reviews, and debate what really happened during Pearl's final moments, draw parallels to Star Wars and other tragic science-fiction stories, and revisit the question we keep going back to: Who is "The Broken"?

Episode 008: Pearl of the Stars
Season 1, Episode 8
Show notes
Pearl of the Stars, track 9 from Year of the Black Rainbow, might be the most gut-punching chapter in the whole book, and one of Claudio’s most personal songs. We dig into Pearl herself (a genius who got way less spotlight than she deserved), and the psychological nightmare of her chapter. We also learn the song started out as a Prize Fighter Inferno tune, ask whether Pearl is “the broken,” and somehow end up discussing Wilhelm Ryan’s skincare routine.
Before we get to the song, we recap Red Rocks and Neverender Festival weekend, including meeting some of you out there!

Episode 007: Made Out of Nothing (All That I Am) w/ special guest DEVIN FROM GODDER DAMM GAZZETTE!
Season 1, Episode 7
Show notes
Another special guest! This week we grabbed the homie Devin from the OG Coheed podcast - The Godder Damm Gazzette - and brought him on to help us break down track 8 from Year of the Black Rainbow: "Made Out of Nothing (All That I Am)" [NOT "all that you are" lol - listen and find out]. Devin brought some tremendous insight and really positive energy, we loved talking to him about all things Coheed.
In this episode we talk about the desperation of Leonard as he considers what to do and finally comes to his decision. We also discuss the epic simplicity of this song, how it works so well thematically.
Hope you enjoy episode 7!

An epic song for an epic tale. A truly monumental moment in the book comes to life with this song. We go into all the details in this episode.
Spoiler warning: This song covers events that happen later in the book than some of the upcoming songs. So this will zoom you ahead in the actual story. If you'd like to continue in mostly "lore order", probably check in with this episode AFTER In the Flame of Error.

Episode 001: One & The Broken
Season 1, Episode 1
Show notes
Welcome to the first episode of The Coheed Chronicles! We're two brothers working through every track in the Coheed & Cambria discography - in lore order. Breaking down the story, the music and the making of each track. We started with Year of the Black Rainbow, the prequel that's the first chapter of the Amory Wars saga.
This episode covers track 1, "One," and track 2, "The Broken," plus a crash course on Heaven's Fence for anyone new to the lore. Along the way: how Joel got Zak into Coheed at age ten, why we argued over where to start, a pop star who credits Claudio for his career, a hidden Easter egg in the guitar solo, and a heated debate over whether Coheed and Cambria might be siblings (Zak rejects this theory).
